Culture / Re: Ebira Has Elements Of Igbo In It Or Am I Wrong by Matlab: 3:04am On May 08, 2017
ezugegere:
The only word I know that has the same meaning in Ebira and Igbo languages is 'ejima'. Ejima means twins in both languages.

wrong! the correct Ebira word is Adaguneva ; Ejima is nothing but a post colonial word of convenience. There is no room for "Eji" in Ebira to imply a multiple. Other Ebira groups in Nassarawa and FCT do not use Ejima

Raxz: @matlab and who told u the north is divided against it self because of some southerners effort? get it, there has never bn a time in the history of Nigeria as a country tht the north is one indivisible region, all u heard is political propaganda by some selfish politicians form the core north just for there political gain bt we in the MB hs come to realise the game plans so we are setting our political turn with a uniqick identity so get it bro there ws never a collective north, never shall.

Bros Raxz...
I hope you realise that you are writing out the broadcast version Solomon Lar or J.S Tarka of looser speeches, name the exact people deceiving you from the North. That's my trouble with you fantasy people....you dream an MB you know nothing of. Pick a state and I bet i'd out-name you over the ethnicties within....including yours!

Well thank you Joavid,
Ebira is a nupoid language and shares more with Nupe peoples (Kakanda (from Agaie-Suleja-Lokoja-Egga(kogi)) Nupe) than Jukun/Kwararafa and idoma;there aree nupe in Kogi and Edo groups too under auchi.

Joavid: Nupe's are in Niger state...we are not Nupe angry
actually the yorubas are the ones claiming that EGBIRA'S are part of them which is false. we have no yoruba roots.
The tribes we have things in common with are the jukuns and idoma in benue state(we all broke out from the old Kwararafa kingdom). although there is a tribe in kogi state that speaks a different kind of yoruba.
we are close to the yorubas due to the geoghraphical setting and we interact with them alot so over time we settled on thier lands and married them.

most egbira women are petite.am yet to see one who is too fat or too slim.respectfull with good home training, good cooks, they dnt cheat. very very caring. they stick with thier men even in bad times bad.fertile...like the yoruba's
bad parts-
if u take them for granted...they dump u wen u least expect it.
They can be so meek..it annoys me...
They dnt rily care if thier man is cheating...part of being meek or patient...

Mercy johnson, the Nigerian actress, she is ebira frm ihima

and did i say they very strong too... Very strong that they can pound yam all day...lol
Culture / Re: Alj Harem Studies On The Olukumis (old Yoruba Language) In Delta Ugbodu by Matlab: 12:57pm On Oct 22, 2013
Ebira is spoken in Edo (Igarra), kogi, Nassarawa, FCT and Niger States as a correction to this entry

You don't get it. Ukwunzi does not sound Yoruba. It sounds Igbo or Edoid. None of those other names are Yoruba either. Olukumi is most likely and Edoid speaking group not Yoruboid or it might be an isolate language.

You need to understand the difference between an language and a dialect. A language has many dialects while a dialect is the most basic form of a language. Edo has many dialects, Igbo has many dialects, Olukumi is a dialect not a language. Aboh, Ukwuani, ozarra, Ika, are all Igbo. Ebira is spoken only in Kogi and Edo states. I don't know why you included it here.Utagba is also part of Ukwuani and Olukunmi is not Anioma but is Edoid. So far I'm only seeing two languages Igbo and Edo. [/quote]

dont blame the jihad...u the yoruba are the sower of baseless enmity...crying over ilorin, a place that used to be my state

ekt_bear: Basically, despite being different groups with different languages and cultures, you middle belt peoples (and we Yoruba, for that matter) have a common enemy.

The Fulani and the Hausa.

All of us, our history to some extent has been defined by combating this Sokoto Caliphate. And 200+ years later, the battle is not yet won. The struggle continues.

That I think is enough to define common interest.

And until this Sokoto Caliphate and their descendants/allies are completely destroyed, we have to stick together.
Politics / Re: Towards True Federalism: Middle Belt Ideology by Matlab: 12:07pm On Sep 27, 2013
I am Ebira and from the region closest to Yorubaland....so stop assuming that we have no brains. Ebira peoples are not Yoruba and would rather trust things as they are than play as the only minority living with the Yoruba; who can't handle diversity of the country let alone a region....Oloorun Maa je!

bashr8: list the states in the middle belt and their ethnic make up, i believe kogi have the egbiras who can easily join yorubas and the southeastern igala who share similarieties, names and cultures with the igbo and a few others that are similar to the edos.

Politics / Re: Aro Meta For Nigeria. . . . . .YORUBA And Others! by Matlab: 10:52am On Sep 27, 2013
I am from the "Middle belt" and muslim; the terrain also protects us from southern slave raiders who stole many of our people and wont care to sell us even now. Lastly, the middle belt is no majority christian zone at least westwards from kogi, kwara niger...

u know what back off with your shit already...we don't need you to tell us who we are or who to be friends with

at no time did a hausa state wrestle with yorubaland in history...not zazzau, not gobir, not katsina...all yoruba fought with was the fulani and nupe. I do not see the ambivalence toward the pure Hausa man for any reason! God!

Dudu_Negro: I agree _Chucks, in reality we no longer erect physical structures for line of defense or necessarily locate on natural terrains for that sole purpose but where they exist, their effectiveness in delaying and exploiting the enemy is indispensable.

The Niger/Benue basin, in modern time is still a viable geopolitical asset for tactical defense, however, my use of it in the post is an analogy to represent a virtual political shield against vulnerabilities in the North.

The Northerner appreciate the loyalty they enjoy from the middle belt, the ties of alliance is almost inextricable. In exchange for support to the North, the middle belt is rewarded with state creations, military and civil service appointments and the opportunity to share in the ruling class, an otherwise unachievable position without this sponsorship from the North.

Left to its own destiny, the middle belt will sink in the political storm. It is propped up on the wings of the Islamic North and so in the face of repeated violence and targeted attacks against its majority Christian citizens, it maintains its membership in the Arewa Forum.
Politics / Re: Nigeria Heading For Civil War – Soyinka by Matlab: 10:44am On Sep 27, 2013
Katsumoto:

Alimi was a Fulani scholar who was well traveled within Yorubaland before settling at Ilorin after invitation from Afonja. His son Abdulsalam became emir after Afonja was killed.

He was eliminated because of the covert Fulani plan to take over Ilorin without waging war. The Fulani needed an outpost in Yorubaland from which they could conquer Yorubaland like they did to Hausaland. Solagberu who was the leader of the Yoruba Muslims from Oke Suna was also killed even though he had aligned with Abdulsalam and had equally turned his back on Afonja. Although Solagberu was killed because Abdulsalam thought that the Onikoyi of Ikoyi had submitted to his rule while Solagberu, Timi of Ede, and Toyeje the Kakanfo had laid seige at Ikoyi. At the end of the day, it wasn't about religion; it was about the Fulani need for power.

Heading out shortly, will be back to answer this.

Nice one Katsumoto....Solagberu was ethnic Kanuri....dis if for ignorants that think the british invited our tribes in this space called Nigeria. we forget that people were free spirits. Though the Oyomesi kept him out of meetings, he served and was kissed as a general would fighting for
Afonja. read the excerpt from "http://www.unilorin.edu.ng/publications/omoiya/Lapai%20Journal%20of%20Central%20Nigerian%20History0001.pdf" On page 22

there are many other publications to back it up....

Sadly...in a scenario break up of Nigeria...i see the worst for this MB region as it wont split in two; but probably over six!. Credit goes to Hausa language for the union, Fulani for the coordination....fighting back doesn't fuse diverse cultures from these influences...never has worked in history for any nation. Wake up and understand all parties in Africa's very own embarrassment (Nigeria)

Your attempt at explaining the history is brave....but sadly wrong. Ebira in 1500 was not in the same timeline with Uthman Dan Fodio. Ebira coming into recognition coincides with a Jukun revolt in Wukari 1600c. against the then largely pagan Hausa rulers in what was described as a Coup detat.

Lastly, change references from the history gathered. there is no Gongola, Taraba and Gombe are parts of Jukun-Kwararafa - not Adamawa. Jukuns are kindred of the Kanuris. There are no Ebira from Plateau; only in Nassarawa. You ignored the Ebira Mozum in Shintaku very close to Okene territories.

Please dont take everything that explains migration to be related to Fulani wars as the Hausa never joined in as much history abuses. It is sad that we live in close proximity to people for centuries and remain ignorant about neighbours and relationships....aarihin, taangwa nini!
