A Nigerian woman who was locked up in a dark room at her family residence for two years, has regained her freedom.

Hassana Sale, mother of four was locked up by her brother to prevent her from rejoining her estranged husband.

Kaduna based NGO, Arida Relief Foundation and a team of policemen found her in a “terrible state” locked up in the room in Rigasa area of Kaduna.

According to the founder of the NGO, Hajiya Rabi Salisu, the victim, Hassana, was deprived of her freedom by her elder brother, one Malam Lawal Sale over her intention to go back to her matrimonial home.

Salisu explained that the woman became depressed when she was divorced by her husband, but due to the love for the children, visited them daily.

“She visits the children on daily basis, so the elder brother and the some of her relatives decided to lock her up in a dark room for two years so that she will not go back to her ex-husband,” she told the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Kaduna.

“We have taken her to the hopital and when she becomes stable, she would be handed over to the state Ministry of Human Service and Social Development to pursue the matter.”

The elder brother has already been arrested by the police.

A group in the Peoples Democratic Party, Edo State under the aegis of the PDP Integrity Group on Monday announced the suspension of a former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi; a former Chief of Staff to the President, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe; and former Minister of Works, Mike Oghiadomhe, from the party for alleged anti-party activities.

Also suspended are Chief Raymond Dokpesi, Senator Yisa Braimoh, Senator Victor Oyofo and a former leader of the House of Representatives, Tunde Akogun.

The group, in a communique jointly signed by former Chairman, Nigeria Football Association, Jarret Tenebe; and a former chairman, Owan West Local Government Area, Dan Asekhema, after a stakeholders’ meeting held in Benin, passed a vote of confidence in the Chief Dan Orbih-led PDP in the state.

The meeting was attended by the PDP leaders across the 18 local government areas of the state.

It stated that the state executive council and the ones in the 18 LGAs would be given six months extension to enable them to conduct the governorship primaries.

“We, the Edo PDP Integrity Group, also announce the adoption of a former governor of the state, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, as the leader of our party in Edo State,” the communiqué read.

But the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Chris Nehikhare, said he was not aware of “any group that goes by the name PDP Integrity Group,” saying whatever statement that had been released or issued by the group should be disregarded.

He said, “We frown on their audacity to suspend or even say they are suspending respected leaders of our party especially as they lack such powers.

“They are not members of any organ of our party and as such cannot issue statements or releases on behalf of the PDP.”

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, spotted flying business class to Owerri, Imo State.

According to a Twitter user, Don Norman Obinna who took to his Twitter page saying that the Minister Ngige flew in the same aircraft with him to Imo State after saying that N30,000 minimum wage is enough for a family of four.

A vigilante group in Sapele, Delta State has arrested a lady and her boyfriend for stealing money from the bank account of her widowed sister, a mother of three.

It was gathered that the lady conspired with her boyfriend, Vincent, stole her sister's ATM card and withdrew the sum of N190, 000, which was part of the money contributed by well meaning individuals and given to the widow after the burial of her husband which was supposed to be used in the upkeep of the children. .

A court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan on Monday ruled in favour of Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State. An appeal was filed by Ogun State Governorship candidate of Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Adekunle Akinlade challenging Governor Dapo Abiodun’s victory.

Justice Yusuf Halilu – led Election Petition Tribunal had on September 14 dismissed the petition filed by Akinlade over failure to prove the allegations

In an unanimous decision on Monday, the Appeal court justices said the appeal “lacks merit and it is therefore struck out.”

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), through its President, Ejezie Emeka Rollas, has officially responded to the story of Deborah Oguntoyinbo, reported by a section of the media as a Nollywood actress, who has been arrested by the police in Canada over a series of identity thefts.

Speaking to reporters in Abuja, AGN President says that Deborah is neither a Nollywood actress nor a registered member of any guild or association in Nollywood, both inside and outside Nigeria.

“We have carried out extensive investigations on the lady and found out that she has never featured in any Nollywood film.”

Rollas cautioned social media journalists, especially bloggers, on the need to carefully verify their stories before they rush to publish so as not to bring the profession into disrepute.

“The story was blatant mischief aimed at disparaging the acting profession in particular and Nollywood in general.

The original story carried by one of the online outfits never described Deborah Oguntoyinbo as Nollywood actress,” he added.

He defended Nollywood performers as role models who portray a positive image of Nigeria within and outside the country, with little to no criminal tendencies as allegedly perpetrated by the Nigerian national in Canada.

“As a professional association, Actors Guild of Nigeria is well positioned and structured to identify all registered members and practitioners within the industry,” he said.

Rollas said he had sent a letter of disclaimer to the Canadian High Commission on Deborah Oguntoyinbo’s reported story.
