A suspected kidnapper in Gombe State, Ibrahim Ahmadu, has expressed disappointment that a victim called the police instead of bringing the N1m ransom he promised his abductors. Ahmadu, who is one of two suspects arrested out of a five-member gang, was paraded by the police in Gombe on Thursday. He said the victim, Gidado Jungudo, was released from captivity with the understanding that he would go and source for the ransom but instead, he turned to the police for help. Ahmadu said, “Unfortunately, he had to call the Divisional Police Officer, who in turn mobilised his men and hunters to chase after us, where they discovered us in our hideout.” Parading the suspects, the spokesperson of the Gombe State Police Command, SP Mary Malum, said, “Policemen from the Dukku Division of the state arrested Audu Umar, 28, and Ibrahim Ahmadu, 25, from the Lapiya village in Dukku, while three others are at large in a case of criminal conspiracy, trespass, intimidation, armed robbery and kidnapping. “Exhibits recovered from the suspects include two AK-47 rifles, two locally-made revolver pistols, two machetes, sticks, clothes, knives and ropes. The suspects confessed to the crime and will be charged.” https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/victim-leads-police-to-arrest-abductors-in-gombe/amp/

An EFCC operative, Mohammed Goji has revealed how Abdulrasheed Maina, former Pension Reform Task Team boss, illegally acquired several properties using his son, Faisal’s name. Goji, who is a Principal Detective Superintendent with the anti-graft agency, was also the second prosecution witness (PW2) in the ongoing trial of Faisal. Goji, a member of Pension Fraud Team of EFCC that investigated Maina, gave the narrative while giving evidence on Wednesday before Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja. He said that the Pension Fraud Team was constituted in 2010 to conduct investigation into pension accounts audit at the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation as well as the Police. “During that time, Abdulrasheed Maina was the chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, established to restructure the pension office. “He also became a subject of investigation. It was in the course of the investigation of Abdulrasheed Maina that the name of the defendant (Faisal) featured prominently. “We investigated Maina’s money laundering deals, which included movement of funds from the police pension account and the accounts of the pension office of the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation to corporate entities as payment for biometric enrollment. “The monies were also allegedly meant for the payment of collective allowances and payment of contracts, which were fraudulent,” he said. He added that in the course of the investigation, a letter was sent to Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to request for information on some of the companies they came across. “They obliged us with copies of incorporation, Form C02 and other documents, which revealed the directors of the companies and their shareholders. “Also, we sent letters of investigation activities to banks and requested for details of accounts and they obliged us with these documents,” he said. The EFCC operative explained further that sometimes in September 2019, the EFCC received an intelligence report that Abdulrasheed Maina was in the country but they did not know where he was. “So, the EFCC liased with the DSS to assist us in effecting the arrest of Maina. “He was eventually arrested along with the defendant (Faisal) on Sep. 29, 2019. “The DSS handed them over to us on Oct. 2, 2019 along with some items recovered from them, which included cars and personal belongings in suitcases, handbags and Bagco bags. “We granted them an opportunity to invite their lawyers because we were directed to record their statements. “On Oct. 3, Faisal was interviewed in the presence of his lawyer. His statement was recorded in his own handwriting and signed. “Additional statements were recorded about three or four times later. He also filled his declaration of assets form in the presence of his lawyer,” Goji said. The witness added that during the investigation, they came across an account owned by Alhaji Faisal Abdullahi Farms, with the UBA, with Faisal and Abdulrasheed Maina as co-signatories. He added that the account was operated by Abdulrasheed Maina, with further investigation revealing that the account was funded with the proceeds of illegality. The Kogi State Police Command has finally paraded six suspects allegedly behind the killing of PDP Women Leader, Mrs. Salome Abuh after much public outcry for justice. On November 18th, Mrs. Abuh was burnt alive in her house at Ochadamu Kogi State shortly after the announcement of the results of the governorship election held in the state on November 16. The six suspects are Ocholi Edicha, Adamu Haruna, Onu Egbunu, Musa Alidu, Attai Haruna and Attah Ejeh. Parading the suspects, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Busari said Edicha aged 30 confessed that he led the gang that burnt the house of Elder Simon Abuh which led to the death of his wife, Mrs. Salome Abuh. “The suspects further confessed that they were responsible for the series of armed robbery incidents in Ochadamu and its environs,” he added. Busari while calling for calm, assured that all perpetrators of the act will not go unpunished as efforts are still ongoing to get other members of the gang. During interrogation by journalists, the leader of the gang, Ocholi Edicha said they had issues with the woman before election day. While admitting that he is a staunch supporter of the ruling party, the prime suspect, however, distanced himself from the killing of the PDP women leader. Meanwhile, the five other suspects paraded by the command exonerated themselves from the killing. According to them, they were petty thieves who are known for robbing the neighborhood of their belongings. This was also confirmed by the prime suspects Edicha, who said: ” I don’t know these people they are parading”. Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Busari while parading the Edicha expained that he was arrested with the help of local vigilantes on 21st November along with five others during an armed robbery operation in the area. Other suspects paraded along with Ocholi were Adamu Haruna, On Egbunu, Musa Alidu, Attai Haruna Egwu and Attach Ejeh. Busari told journalists that Edicha led the gang that burnt the house in which Mrs Abuh was sleeping. “The suspect further confessed that they were responsible for the series of armed robbery incidents at Ochadamu and it’s environs.” The commissioner said adding that a gun was recovered from the suspects. During an interview, Edicha denied the allegation of leading the arsonists that killed Mrs Abuh. He said although he is an APC member and that he had misunderstanding with Mrs Abuh on election date, he did not participate in her killing. Ocholi who spoke in Igala language further alleged that some of the people that burnt the house came from Ejule. Source: https://www.ogbeta.ng/2019/12/faces-of-men-who-allegedly-burnt-kogi.html

Anthony Joshua’s turbulent year ended in triumph in Saudi Arabia in an epic second showdown with Andy Ruiz and soon fight fans will be treated to another rematch in February when Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury go to war a second time. The debate about who is the best heavyweight on the planet will continue to rage on until the best go toe-to-toe and here Metro UK ranks the top-performing fighters in the division after a crazy 12 months. 1 – DEONTAY WILDER As the reigning WBC champion and the most in-form heavyweight, Wilder just about pips Fury to top spot. Two wins and two chilling knockouts in 2019 have many people jumping off the fence and pitching their tent in camp Wilder, especially in light of Fury’s last performance. 2 – TYSON FURY Fury should really be sitting top of this list as WBC champion, but instead it feels the Gypsy King might be up against it when he faces Wilder next year. Tom Schwarz and Otto Wallin are two of the lowest hanging fruits in the heavyweight division and Fury’s eye injury in his last fight came as a direct result of sloppy defence. Fury has the incredible knack of rising to the occasion, but the display against Wallin suggests the British heavyweight has slowed down, even if only by a fraction of a second. 3. ANTHONY JOSHUA Joshua’s sweet revenge against Ruiz means the three-belt holder is a two-time unified champion and back on track to confirm himself as the undisputed king. Wilder and Fury set a new bar in their classic 2018 blockbuster and Joshua can now set his sights on reaching, and perhaps surpassing, that standard. 4. DILLIAN WHYTE Dillian Whyte ended the year on a high against Mariusz Wach, just a day after he was cleared of any wrongdoing by UKAD. An adverse finding in a June test has derailed Whyte’s bid to challenge Wilder and the 31-year-old will now have to wait until early 2021 until he can challenge for the WBC belt and stake a claim for the top spot. 5. ANDY RUIZ JR The former unified champion came out of nowhere this year and can still count himself among the best in the world after two fights with Joshua. Ruiz admitted he was comprehensively beaten by Joshua and promised to rediscover the form that captured him three world titles in 2020.
