Regime change was just the icing on the cake...... weakening Irans military capabilities (especially long range weapons) and taking out top leaders is a good win for them.

Should they successfully cripple Iran in that category they won't allow it grow this strong again.

They will probably come up with another story in the future as to why they didn't use the proceeds well.

They never had any intention for land invasion yet.... it could be too costly and castatrophic for the US as they could suffer loses they haven't seen before.....so their best bet in this case is the citizens starting a revolt while they'll continually use airstrikes to take down top Iranian officials.
