Politics / Group Disowns Oyo PDP Factional Spokesperson, Says National Secretariat Yet To A by Mcebisco011: 10:22am On Nov 29, 2017
Some stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State have disowned a statement credited to factional Publicity Secretary of the party, Engineer Akeem Olatunji who claimed that the party’s national secretariat has affirmed the state executive list of the party drawn at Watershed, Old Ife Road Ibadan, penultimate Saturday.

They noted that the statement purportedly issued by Olatunji was far from the truth because both leaders from the two parallel congresses were still meeting and holding consultations with the National leaders to find amicable solution to the disagreement that led to the parallel congresses.

The PDP leaders under the umbrella of Concerned Leaders of Oyo State PDP in a statement made available to MC EBISCO on Sunday noted that both factions were part of the reconciliatory meeting held last Wednesday in Abuja with the national leaders of the party led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi and that there was no time anyone in that meeting made such statement.

The group wondered when Olatunji became the megaphone or the National Publicity of the Party in which the party communicate its verdict on the ongoing issues to the party faithful and members of the general public.

The statement reads, “Our attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly credited to Engineer Akeem Olatunji who claimed that the National Headquarters of the party has affirmed the Peoples Democratic Party executive list drawn at Watershed Old Ife road Ibadan Last Saturday.

“This is far from the truth as both leaders from both congresses are meeting and holding consultations with National leaders to find amicable solution to the disagreement that led to the parallel congresses.

“We are part of the reconciliation meeting held in Abuja on the congresses last Wednesday and the National leaders of the party led by the National Caretaker chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi and there was no time did the party leaders make such statement. They have only promised to investigate the matter and make their findings and resolutions known to the general public.

“We wondered when the factional Publicity Secretary of the party, Engr Akeem Olatunji became the megaphone or the National Publicity of the Party in which the party communicate its verdict on the ongoing issues to the party faithful and members of the general public.

“Senator Femi Lanlehin in a radio interview said without equivocation that the matter would be resolved within days. Does Engr Akeem Olatunji knows more than Senator Lanlehin on the matters? The answer is obviously NO.

The group then enjoined party members and members of the public to disregard such statements.

“We enjoin party members and members of the public to disregard any information who states contrary to this statement and Wait till party National leaders make available official statement on the final verdict on the matter”.

Celebrities / Why I’ve Gone Back To School – Mr. Latin by Mcebisco011: 6:38am On Nov 26, 2017
Comic actor, Bolaji Amusan, aka Mr. Latin, has explained what motivated him to go back to school despite shooting to stardom.

Thirty-five years after he completed his secondary school education, he is now an undergraduate at the National Open University of Nigeria, where he is studying Peace and Conflict Resolution.

He told Sunday Scoop that if he had been well educated, he would have gone far in the entertainment industry.

“John Okafor and others are fantastic actors and comedians, but they are not better than us. They are just fortunate to be speaking a universally-accepted language and they are all graduates too. So, if I can add a little bit of education to my profile, I believe I will go places. That has been my determination and I am working towards it,” he stated.

He went ahead to say that regardless of all that King Sunny Ade and King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, aka KWAM 1, have achieved, the likes of Davido and Wizkid still have an edge over them.

He said, “If KSA and KWAM 1 go to Uganda or any other country, the way they would be accepted will be different from the way Wizkid, Olamide and Davido would be accepted.

“The younger artistes sing with English Language even though they still add the local dialect. It means people in other countries will relate with their music better. Whether we like it or not, the truth is that Yoruba language is limited to a small set of people.”

According to Mr. Latin, most of his friends are now in high places in the government and other sectors, arguing that he might be called upon to work in any capacity some day.

He added, “So, I don’t know what will happen tomorrow. I may be fortunate to venture into politics or I may be fortunate to have a friend in the Presidency, who is passionate about the theatre and thinks I can be of help. But if I don’t have a certificate to back it up, I will not be able to do it.

“I know it is not easy combining acting and schooling, but I try to make both work. It is all about having a scale of preference and using your time well. I work during the day and I study at night. I make use of the Internet well too.”

He stated that he had realised that without education, one’s achievement would be limited, saying provided one was ambitious, there was a need to seek knowledge.

He added, “Gani Adams went back to school and it has paid off. Same thing applies to Odunlade Adekola. I just implore everyone to add education to whatever we do so that people will appreciate us better.”

On why it took him 35 years to realise the importance of education, he said, “I came from a very poor background. My mother sold ogi (pap) while my father was a hunter. They could not afford to send me to the university. I had to work hard to get to where I am today. Now that I can eat two times in a day, I can afford to send myself to school too.”

Politics / EFCC Seals Suswam’s Properties In Benue by Mcebisco011: 9:32pm On Nov 25, 2017
The Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has sealed three properties belonging to former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam.

The properties with inscription ‘EFCC keep off’ on them, included: the Metropolitan hotel along FMC road, a residential building still under construction by the river side and his family home in HUDCO quarters all in Makurdi, Daily Trust reports.

The action of the EFCC might not be unconnected with the alleged misappropriation of N107 billion by Suswam as contained in the Justice Elizabeth Kpojime’s Panel of Inquiry which indicted 52 other people.

The panel set up by incumbent Governor Samuel Ortom on his assumption of office had alleged that the people tampered with the state funds in various ways during Suswam’s reign in the state between 2007 and 2015.

Meanwhile, Suswam and the Finance Commissioner under his administration, Omodachi Okolobia are still standing trial for allegedly defrauding Benue state government the sum of N3.1bn while in office.

They were on November 10, 2015 arraigned before Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Abuja on a 9-count charge bordering on allegations of financial impropriety and money laundering.

Politics / Doyin Okupe Attacks Fashola Over Lagos Bridge, Says APC Members Reckless, Crooks by Mcebisco011: 5:05pm On Nov 24, 2017
Aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe, has described everyone in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC as reckless and crooked.

Okupe further stated that he was aware that the current President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration was going to destroy the economy, adding that he is not disappointed so far.

In a Facebook post, the former Presidential aide singled out former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola for saying the Lekki-Ikoyi bridge cost Lagos State Government N29 billion.

According to him, “The information below translates thus: The world’s longest bridge cost $36m per kilometre.

“Now ponder this: According to then Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, the Lekki-Ikoyi bridge cost Lagos State government a whopping ₦29 billion. The bridge is just 1.68km long, meaning it cost about ₦17b per kilometre.

“In dollar terms, that would mean Fashola built Lekki-Ikoyi bridge at the heart-rending cost of $107.68m per km.

“LEKKI-IKOYI BRIDGE, CROSSING A SHALLOW LAGOON, COST MORE THAN 3 TIMES PER KM THAN THE WORLD’S LONGEST BRIDGE, WHICH CROSSES A SEA!

“This is one of the things I saw which made me believe ALL in APC to be reckless or crooked, or both. I knew they would DESTROY the economy, AND THEY DID!”

According to Punch, he could barely walk, as he was supported to the venue by two people.

Baba Sala’s first son, Reverend Dele Adejumo, said the octogenarian was not suffering from old age but lack of funds for medical treatment, adding that his investments had all been wrecked by poor management.

Adejumo said, “He has investments but they have all been wrecked by mismanagement. He also had a three-storey building in Mushin, Lagos which he had to sell to offset debt incurred when his work, Orun Mooru, was pirated.

“We still have some of his recorded works not in public yet but machines that will be used to transform them to an acceptable format are not easily available. We do not have the kind of money they are charging us.

Politics / Rich Pastors Ignoring The Poor – Falana Mocks Adeboye, Others by Mcebisco011: 1:02pm On Nov 11, 2017
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) condemned the rate of poverty and unemployment in the country, despite the existence of billionaire Christian leaders.

Falana at the ongoing Lagos Book and Arts Festival (LABAF) holding in Freedom Park, Lagos, took a swipe at Nigerian pastors, accusing them of milking their congregants.

The legal luminary wondered how most of them lived in so much affluence but failed to give back to the society.

He also mocked General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, for saying RCCG will have as many branches as possible.

Falana lambasted Adeboye and other clerics who prefer to increase branches, instead of focusing on other institutions like schools and hospitals.

His words: “Most of the richest pastors in the world are from Nigeria, yet our people are getting poorer.

“If many of us had not attended mission schools built by the Catholics and the Anglicans…but what are we building now? What are our churches giving us?

“They are promising to build churches in every street. All the warehouses in Apapa built by Awolowo have all become churches and business centres.”

Recall that Cardinal Anthony Olubunmi Okogie recently criticised Adeboye’s comment, stating that there is no Godliness in increasing church branches.

“I heard that one of my colleagues, (Pastor Enoch) Adeboye, said that he would love to build churches everywhere so as to make it easy for worshippers to walk to them.

“But for me, that is a useless statement. How can you say you will build churches everywhere? What kind of churches are you talking about?

“Look at traffic in Lagos for example, and those who are pastors are traders and a good number of them are business men. Such churches in most cases are more like business houses!

“Look at the number of churches springing up in Lagos. If the Muslims start building mosques like that, does it show that Nigeria is a religious country?”

Romance / JSS 2 Girl Allegedly Impregnated By Vice Principal Gives Birth To Baby Boy by Mcebisco011: 9:59am On Nov 08, 2017
A Junior Secondary School 2 student of Government Day Secondary School, Tunga-Minna, who was allegedly impregnated by the Vice Principal, Malam Mohammed Mohammed, has been delivered of a baby boy.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the minor gave birth at Injita village in Munya Local Government Area of Niger, last week.

NAN also reports that Mohammed, who was arraigned on April 4, is currently standing trial on a two-count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a child and impregnating a female student.

The accused was remanded in prison for three months after he pleaded not guilty to the charge, before he was granted bail in the sum of N1 million by Magistrate Fatima Auna.

According to Auna, Mohammed’s action contravened sections 35 and 36 of the 1999 constitution and sections 341 and 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The victim, who spoke with newsmen on Tuesday in Munya, disclosed that she gave birth to a baby boy at her native village because her guardian in Minna took her back to her parents in August.

She said that the Vice Principal had not come to see her, and solicited the assistance of the state government to carter for the child.

The minor, however, said that the incident would not stop her from realising her dream of becoming a Nurse.

“I am not happy to be a mother at this tender age, but I will not allow the incident to shatter my dreams of becoming a nurse.

“I want to return to school as quickly as possible because I still want to become a Nurse,” she said.

She advised young girls to be committed to their studies report any form of abuse to the school authority or their parents.

Malam Haruna Galadima, the 65-year-old father of the girl, who also spoke with newsmen, decried the total neglect of the victim by the accused, saying that the girl did not receive any assistance during the pregnancy.

He urged the state government to assist his daughter to return to school and also ensure justice for her.

“When I heard of the pregnancy, I regretted sending her to school. I kept wondering why a teacher, who is supposed to teach and correct her, was the one responsible for her predicament.

“I want the man who put her in the family way to take full responsibility of his baby’s needs,” he said.

In her reaction, Mrs. Mairam Kolo, Director-General, Niger State Child Rights Protection Agency, said that the agency had asked the education ministry to give part of the Vice Principal’s salary to the girl as upkeep allowance.

Kolo gave assurance that the agency would ensure justice for the victim and also facilitate her return to school. (NAN)
