Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has reacted to comments by Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie.
She had on Friday said the relationship between the President and the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, will remain cordial beyond 2023.

The state governor accused of building a hotel with $3m of the London-Paris Club loan refund has sneaked into Aso Rock Presidential Villa in search of soft-landing.

The National Assembly on Thursday disclosed the details of its 2017 budget. This was after eight years of keeping it a guarded secret.
The total budget for the legislature this year is N125bn. This is N10bn higher than that of last year – of which details were not disclosed.


While the senate will splash N2.6bn on automobiles, the house will do the same at the cost of N3.8bn.
However, there seems to be a niggling issue with the budgetary allocation for cars. N6.4bn was earmarked for the purchase of “motor vehicles”.
But when compared with previous spends on cars, the amount is a far cry from last year’s amount which was about N4.7bn.
In February 2016, the management of the national assembly took delivery of 10 princely cars for the senate president at the cost of about N330m. This was when the country was in the throes of recession.
And in November of the same year, the house of representatives took delivery of some Peugeot 508 series at the cost of about N3.6bn for its members.
Federal lawmakers will spend N235m on newspapers alone. While the senate will spend N424m on photocopying machines and other office equipment, the house will spend N353m on the same.

Former Central Bank Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, has proffered solution to the myriad of economic challenges confronting the country, by calling for the complete elimination of the “41 restricted items” by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, if it hopes to achieve a unified exchange rate regime.
Soludo, made the call at the Recap Conference, in Lagos, while speaking on the theme: “Nigeria’s Current FX and Interest Rate Policies; Thoughts and Suggestions”.
Recall, that the CBN Acting Director, Corporate Communications, Isaac Okoroafor, had recently defended the CBN’s stand, saying that despite criticisms, the CBN would not drop the policy, nor bow to “self-serving” interests.

“We have observed with great concern, the continued and unwarranted attack on our policies by a group of Nigerians, whose real interests, findings have shown are anything near altruistic, but rather self-serving, and unpatriotic”, Okoroafor had said.

The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, has technically confirmed that Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, is the National Coordinator of the economy.
The Minister, dismissed the controversy over President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter to the National Assembly, in which he stated that Osinbajo would “co- ordinate government activities”, in his absence.
Lai Mohammed, after the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting, described the reaction as a needless distraction, adding that, the operative phrase in the letter, was “in compliance with Section 145 (1)” of the 1999 Constitution. He pointed out that once the phrase was in the letter, any other words that were included, were not of paramount importance.
“I think it is a needless controversy, and just a distraction. The operative sentence is ‘in compliance with Section 145 sub- section (1)’, so any other words are irrelevant”, Mohammed said.

The relative peace in the oil-rich Niger Delta region, which enabled Nigeria to produce about 2 million barrels of crude oil per day in recent months is seriously being threatened, following the cancellation of three oil blocks won by indigenes of the region in the 2007 bid round by the Federal Government.
The three oil blocks had for eight years been stalled by litigation until it was resolved in 2015.
It was learnt that President Muhammadu Buhari was proded into the revocations of the oil blocks by the leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC).

The Senate has concluded plans to open the case of misappropriation of funds, involving the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, Post-Nigeria learnt exclusively, on Sunday.

Recall, that the case of violation of the 2016 Appropriation Act, the fiscal responsibility Act, and Public Procurement Act, in the implementation of the capital component of the 2016 budget by the Inspector General of Police, was first raised at the House, in January, but died down.

However, with the recent clampdown of the Lawmakers by the Nigerian Police, sources revealed that plans are on the way to resurrect it.


Sources said the sum of N7.2 billion meant for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of 102 Police stations, and the purchase of 10 units of Armoured Personnel Carriers, APCs, was misappropriated by the Police.

There was a standoff earlier today between officials of the Nigerian Customs and some car dealers in Kaduna state.

Two teenagers have reportedly died in a swimming pool belonging to a hotel in Okhoro, in the Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. – PUNCH reports.

The victims were identified as Ikponmwosa Isibor, 17, and 16-year-old Emmanuel Abuzu.

It was learnt that the deceased, who were friends, had paid to use the swimming pool before they reportedly drowned at about 4pm on Saturday. (Graphic Photos Ahead)

It was gathered that the hotel, Okhoro Play House, said to be popular in the area, had been under lock and key since the incident occurred.

A source said some workers of the hotel had also been taken to the Okhoro Police Station for interrogation.

A worker at the hotel, who did not give his name, said the matter was being investigated by the police.

He said, “The police are already handling the matter. I think you should speak with them.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Nkombe, told our correspondent on Wednesday, that he was not aware of the incident, saying he was away on an official assignment.

It was, however, learnt that the case had been transferred to the homicide department of the state police command.

As the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Thursday, released time table for 2019 general elections, over 300, 000 youths under the auspices of Concerned Nigerian Youth Development Organisation, CNYDO, have declared their support and endorsement for former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to the next President come 2019.

Tragedy has been averted after a Kano-bound train from Lagos suddenly skidded off the tracks after developing a mechanical fault in Osun.

The cargo section of a passenger train travelling from Lagos to Kano on Saturday got detached from the main body and later derailed in Osun state.

Mechanical fault was suspected.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that the three wagons attached to the end of the passenger train got detached from the rest of the coaches at Ifon area of Osun at about 1:45am.

The pilotless wagons lumbered to the interchange at the terminus around Old Garage area in Osogbo where the wheels got off the track and the wagons tumbled.

A witness, Mr Biodun Opatoyinbi told NAN that only one Mr Yakubu popularly called Baba Ibeji, a train conductor was in the cargo area. He was unhurt.
