Politics / Sanwoolu's Greater Lagos Fiesta Flops by Mediaguru55: 10:18pm On Jan 01, 2023
Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwoolu made a last minute effort yesterday to safe face by boycotting the New Year countdown show tagged Greater Lagos Fiesta. The poorly organised show was held at Eko Atlantic, Victoria Island.
Apart from the fact that the turn out was not impressive, A-list performers were not in attendance.
Leading the pack of performers was Styleplus and Marley
The entire Fiasco was like a conference of government officials led by the deputy governor, Obafemi Hamzat.
Sources say resources made available were inadequate to stage a grandeur event like his predecessors. In the same vein, incompetent people were said to have spare headed the event management, including Hon Desmond Elliot who was saddled with talent hiring.
It would be recalled that the governor's first attempt to hold the event was equally a failure that led to the sack of the then Tourism commissioner.
It is now on record that Sanwoolu's tenure could not stage a successful grand countdown event.
Incidentally, Cable News Network that listed Lagos as one of its destination cities for countdown was relying on 2016 to 2019 data as evidenced in the photo credit of the report.

A Lagos based publishing company identified as Shadrach Blake Ltd has called out the state government over non payment of a publishing job executed for the government since 2019.

The company has however instructed its lawyer to institute a legal action as a last resort since all other avenues have been frustrated.

According to a letter by the legal firm of Yinka Muyiwa &Co to the governor, the company is demanding a full payment of the contract or get the supplied publications returned.
The company company explained how it has ran into bankruptcy as a result of debts incurred to get the publications delivered.

Pointing at why the governor, through the Tourism ministry has refused to entertain their prayers is because one of the publications has former governor Akinwumi Ambode's list of achievements in the culture and arts sector.

"We don't know how our request for payment or return of the publications is so difficult to achieve if not for other motives to frustrate our business, we sense an act of vendetta" the letter wondered.

As it is, it can be concluded that the stated government is acting in contrary to what the title of the publication says THE COOLEST CITY ON EARTH.
All efforts to speak with the Tourism commissioner, Uzamat Akinbile proved abortive as our calls were not answered.

Politics / Re: Tinubu -the Man That Must Never Become President by Mediaguru55: 2:13am On Oct 04, 2022
Mediaguru55:
One of the usual achievements credited to Bola Tinubu is that of a talent hunter.

However, one dastardly aspect of his character is that whenever he identifies these talents he either seeks to destroy them out of envy or pocket them like a dirty handkerchief.

Tinubu is jealous of his subordinates success and secretly abhors anybody who starts to shine.

This is not tales by moonlight, its true. Ask Mr Babatunde
Fashola who rode on Tinubu’s coattails to power and later became a poster boy for good governance.

He developed a kind of cult following of his own among Lagosians. Immediately Tinubu saw this following he became jealous of his popularity and sought to limit him to one term. This plot backfired largely due to the fact that PDP was the party at the centre.

The fear of Fashola decamping and winning the election was real. So, commonsense prevailed and Fashola snatched his second term from the jaws of a vengeful and petty Tinubu.

Fast forward to Akinwunmi Ambode who came as a neophyte but morphed into a Golden boy performer beyond all expectations.

Tinubu again became jealous and accused Ambode of trying to reverse his legacies of over 10 years ago. He fumed that Ambode was no longer taking instructions and was developing an Agenda of his own. Out of pure spite and wickedness he denied Ambode the second term ticket.

This was inspite of APC governors prostrating ...Yes Postrating to beg him in Oshogbo. The Vice President and Mr President also reached out on behalf of Ambode but he flatly refused.

For him, the Governors of Lagos state must be treated like schoolboys. After denying Ambode the ticket, he warned him not to commission any more projects in the twilight of his regime. He threatened him with impeachment by his rubber stamp House of Assembly.

Ambode in a mark of bravery defied him and finished strong with a host of completed projects including the iconic Airport road and Oshodi Bus Terminal commissioned by President Buhari.

However, Tinubu like a spoilt child stayed away from the event because he did not get his way but promised to exact a terrible vengeance on Akinwunmi Ambode. That vengeance by Tinubu and his minions continues till this day.

In came Jide Sanwoolu the "Yes Sir" Governor who was determined not to fall victim like his predecessors.

He has practically become a door mat to the so called talent hunter called Bola Tinubu. Verified reports have it that Mr. Jide Sanwoolu cannot take any serious decision without clearing it directly or indirectly with the Tinubu.

He has become powerless and helpless in the face of Tinubu’s tyranny. This disrespect for the so called elected office of Governor has become so bad that Tinubu has been seen and heard openly tongue lashing the Governor with unprintable epithets in front of subordinates on numerous occasions.

APC in particular and Nigerians in general shine your eyes oooo. We cannot and must not trust this man with Presidential power.

He is jealous, petty and insecure and will do anything to undermine his subordinates especially those who choose to serve the people and not him.

We cannot ever afford to make a Presidential mistake with a person of this character in 2023 !!!!!!! As a nation, we have made many mistakes, but making Tinubu President will be one mistake too many. It must never happen.

So, this is a clarion call that this Man Must Never Be President!!

Politics / How Osun Gov Oyetola Bought Dezieani's Business Partner London Mansion by Mediaguru55: 12:16pm On Oct 07, 2021
From the East to the North and now to the West, the Pandora’s Box is still opening.*

*”…The government then listed 17 properties in Abuja, Lagos, the U.S., Canada, Dubai, Switzerland, and the UK.*

*”Among the listed properties was “Grove End Road, London”.*

*”The court granted the government all its prayers. In October 2017, an attempt by the defendants to dismiss the Mareva injunction granted on the properties was subsequently dismissed by Oluremi Oguntoyinbo, the trial judge.*

*”But just around the time (on October 18, 2017) the court dismissed the defendant’s attempt to dismiss the injunction, documents obtained from the U.K. property register revealed that Mr Aluko sold the house for £9 million to Aranda Overseas Corporation, an offshore company incorporated in the British Virgins Island by two of Mr Tinubu’s most trusted surrogates – Adegboyega Oyetola, formerly chair of Paragon Group of Companies and incumbent governor of Osun State and Elusanmi Eludoyin, Mr Oyetola’s successor at Paragon.”*

Crime / How Spain-based Nigerias Nelson Okonobo Duped Vulnerable Nigerian Women Abroad by Mediaguru55: 8:24am On Sep 28, 2021
Nelson Okonobo’s name may not ring a bell among many Nigerians in Diaspora, especially in Spain where he sojourns, the name, according to those who have encountered him is synonymous with everything evil.

He has been alleged of being a ring leader of a fraud cartel specialising in duping fellow Nigerians especially vulnerable women, considered to be soft targets.

His many victims narrated how he made their life miserable after an encounter with the light skin Edo-born fraudster who lives in Saville, Spain.

According to a document obtained from the Spanish police Authority, Okonobo is alleged to have been involved in a multiple of scams whereby he lured middle class Nigerians in Europe and America into paying huge sums on the pretense of helping their relatives and in most cases, a marriage scam know in the local parlance as ‘come and Marry’

One of such instance was a case of a nurse in Britain identified in a police police as Ude Newton who was allegedly swindled of several thousands of Euros on the pretense of helping her relative in Spain. The relative was reported by Nelson that Ude’s brother was suffering from alcoholic abuse and needed urgent rehab therapy.

As the story was narrated to News of the People, Okonobo’s targets are women with one or two relatives in Spain, he hacks into the phone of his target and then contact their families to come to their rescue with money, a modus operandi similar to requesting a ransom for kidnap.

‘I was called that my brother who is in Spain has become homeless without phone and food. I became worried and tried my brother’s phone without success, so, I was asked to come to his rescue that he needed about three thousands to get him a decent accommodation and a phone while he would also get him a rehab to help his situation. He came across as a man I can trust as he was quoting Bible and saying he was just interested because he is a fellow Nigerian’ Ude said.

According to her, before I knew it I have committed several thousands, sent directly to him to help my brother but the bubble burst when my brother eventually got across to say he never collected any money from Nelson nor ever been to a rehab for treatment.

The police confirmed of an intent to commit fraud because of a fake photo identity of a rehab with an alleged photograph of Ude’s brother was retrieved.

In another development, Okonobo was said to have staged a health-challenge solicitation, saying he had a hole in the heart thereby calling on Nigerian community to assist in a ‘go fund me’ manner, a claim that was later found to be hoax.

His target of single ladies across Europe is said to be legendary. A victim of his in London identified as Esiri said he told her that he was desperately looking for a wife to marry and after a week, he began to seek financial help either to finance a business or to send a container to Africa, adding ‘that was the red flag to know he was a scam’

Another victim who prayed to be anonymous said at a time, Okonobo allegedly lied that the Nigerian community were planning to take corpse of a Nigerian back home and money was required for such, thereby begging people to raise funds and it was later revealed that it was all a scam.

Another of his victim who lives in Cambridge is not that lucky as he was able to milk a thousand pound sterling from her on an excuse that he needed to fund his water factory in Benin city with more funds of €20,000. They were already on the terms of marriage and live together as husband and wife.
It was gathered that no sooner had he got the one thousand than he allegedly switched off his phone and only to resurfaced after three weeks with a story of having heart disease and required more money to get medical attention.

His water company identified as Water Diamond Gold Ltd in Ikpoba Hill area of Benin city seems to be an alibi to establish a legitimacy for his victim to be while he is said to always boast of an elder brother Philips Okonobo a rich shipping manager for Dangote company.

Investigations has however revealed that Nelson is happily married and has two other women and a spanish woman in Spain.

Findings by this magazine at Dangote proved that there’s no shipping manager in Dangote Group while the Spanish police responded that all complaints against Okonodo are being considered while a statutory step would be instituted shortly. However, all attempts to speak with Nelson proved abortive as he failed to respond to all messages sent to him.

Politics / Ajomale, Melako, K1 Hijack Election Materials In Isolo LCDA by Mediaguru55: 5:03pm On May 29, 2021
APC party faithfuls are already protesting in Isolo over an attempt to overturn the primary election result of Isolo lcda
Thugs were said to have been deployed by K1 Representatives led by Ramoni Student, Yomi Olusegun and Melako to disrupt the entire process.
Only Ishaga ward S5 was said to have been concluded with Hon Muniru leading by 100 votes.
Voting didn't take place at the Osolo palace as thugs believed to be working for Bayo K1 hijacked election materials
As at the time of filing this report NewsExpress gathered that all materials and election officials were taken to a hotel in Oke Afa just beside Hon Kuforiji's house where they're compiling doctored results to favour Bayo Fuji.
Protests are ongoing in the lcda to register the fact that there's no election in the council so as to prevent them in presenting a doctored result as authentic.
Politics / K1 de Ultimate manager, Bayo Olasoju Releases Daring Poster by Mediaguru55: 6:50pm On May 26, 2021
Bayo olasoju who is contesting for Isolo LCDA as chairman has released a daring poster to shame thos who tagged him as Fuji music czar stooge. The poster is tagged CONTINUITY OF ENJOYMENT
It would be recalled that he has served as council for five years and four years as vice chairman. Continuity indeed.

Politics / Group Lambast K1 Over LCDA Chairmanship Election.. ...vows To Resist Imposition by Mediaguru55: 4:17pm On May 21, 2021
Isolo Youth Coalition has lambasted the fuji czar, king Wasiu Ayinde Marshall over his unnecessary interference in the Isolo politics of All Progressive Congress,APC.
The fuji music star is specifically accused of infiltrating the party elders to impose his stage manager Bayo Olasoju as consencus Chairman of the LCDA.
In a statement signed by the youth leader, Saheed Adebayo, the fuji star was quoted to have said that he was trying to compensate the band boy for his loyalty to the Ultimate Band with the position.
While the youths are calling for a transparent primary, they equally frown at the candidate of K1 who is described as a drop out only fit to be a stage boy.
The statement emphasised that all the other two aspirants are of Tinubu political empire and loyal APC members.
Olasoju was accused of incompetence as vice chairman who is more concerned about his social celebrity status instead of the welfare of the local council people.
The statement reads " during one of the councils budget retreat, he (Olasoju) did not attend, only to see him on the stage at Chief Okoya's 80th birthday collecting money sprayed his boss (K1). Is that the kind of local council chairman we deserve.
The group however called on the party elders to wade into the matter to help APC grow and instill confidence on the people.
Specifically, they called on the national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to call Wasiu to order not to put his personal interest that has lost touch with the people Isolo above the interest of the people as he presently resides in Ijebu-Ode,Ogun State.

Politics / Chief Bode George Again On Bola Tinubu by Mediaguru55: 12:36pm On Nov 22, 2020
The visit of Chief Bisi Akande, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Dr Yomi Finnih and Chief Segun Osoba to the seat of power in Abuja is needless, unnecessary, veiled in some poorly hidden agenda that is woven in apparently self-serving ulterior personalized desperation.
It is easy to discern that the visit is stripped of any patriotic progression, lacking in balanced national leadership, voided of a spirit of sacrifice and developmental vision.
The very absence of Bola Tinubu from the jamboree screams to high heavens that the meeting itself is a covert placatory softening of the ground for Tinubu himself . I am pretty certain that in his very absence , Tinubu occupies the centrality of the discussion.

President Muhammadu Buhari should not fall for those who would eclipse the main issue wracking Lagos State in a needless, solicitous self immersed scheming in partisan engagement.
The very pivot of the Lagosian malady is the reckless, irresponsible misappropriation of the Lagosian commonwealth by Tinubu. This much I have documented in several public interventions. This, I may add , contributed to the heightened scale of the disgruntlement and the anger of the youths who made the Lekki Toll Gates the very symbol of their rejection of the politics of subjugation.
I will advise Baba Akande who governed Ọsun state with principled , incorruptible leadership to kindly help us drop off Bola Tinubu at Iragbiji as he makes his way back to Ila-Ọrangun, rather than engaging in fruitless pleading sessions for a man who is fixated on a warped pipe -dream about governing Nigeria. He should pay restitution for the egregious stripping of the Lagosian coffers.
This is my humble birthday offering.

Politics / The Truth Behind Sanwo Olu’s Proposed Cancellation Of Pension Payments To Tinubu by Mediaguru55: 10:48am On Nov 13, 2020
The Truth behind Sanwo Olu’s proposed cancellation of pension payments to Tinubu, Fashola and Ambode

Sanwoolu must tell Lagosians the truth behind the proposed cancellation of former Governors’ pensions instead of presenting it like an altruistic action ....

*The facts:*
1. Ex-Governors are being paid humongous pension packages, after their tenors, by a lot of States.

2. The Pension Reform Act of 2004 changed Nigerian Pension system from Defined Benefits to Defined Contributions.

3. This means that private and public sector workers can only be paid pensions from the funds they contributed while in active pensionable work.

4. The salaries of Governors and their deputies are not subjected to pension deductions, their own pensions can only be fixed by the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

5. Lagos State is one of the States using Tax payers money to make this illegal pension payment to non-contributing ex-governors/deputies, a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul.

6. When Lagos State wanted to issue Bonds to raise N100billion from the Capital Market in Jan 2020, the Nigeria Pension Commission disqualified the Bond from accessing pension monies in custody of the PFAs.

7. Lagos Government had to sign an undertaking to correct the illegal pension payment provisions in its pension law before the disqualification was lifted.

8. Lagos was then able to borrow N100billion in Jan 2020 to spend on projects yet to be properly accounted for.

9. Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo of the Federal High Court, in a suit filed by SERAP in 2017, in judgement last year December ordered that the Attorney General of the federation to challenge the legality of the pension payments to ex-governors and their deputies.

10. The National Industrial Court in January 2020, also declared as null and void, payment of pension and gratuity to former governors and their deputies.

This is the position of the law as of now, in the absence of any Appeal Court order setting it aside.

11. Lagos State intends to borrow additional huge sums of money from the Capital Market again, but it must cancel the illegal payments to governors/deputies by revoking Ex Governors Pension Law in order for PENCOM to qualify it's new borrowing for PFAs' investments.

12. Sanwoolu’s decision to cancel the ex- Governors pension law is not altruistic and should not be applauded. The decision to cancel the illegal pension is by compulsion and not by choice.

13.Civil society and other stakeholders must monitor the present Lagos State Government to ensure it does not continue to pay these monies to the ex-Governors through the back door through nebulous tax Consultancy *(Alpha-Beta)* contracts ,inflated and fictitious contract awards.

Investment / LIKE MOTHER LIKE DAUGHTER: Kemi Nelson's Daughter in Fraud Scandal by Mediaguru55: 12:55pm On Aug 07, 2020
Like mother like daughter, Detoun Popoola, the General Manager of Lagos State Parks and Garden Agency LASPARK who is also the daughter of suspended NSITF director, Chief Mrs Kemi Nelson is enmeshed in fraud allegations.
Allegation of fraud is coming from parks and garden operators that the GM along with her cohorts in the agency have perfected means of deducting money from their statutory payment.
It was alleged that the arrogant Detoun has now made it mandatory that each contractor must pay minimum of fifty thousand naira from two hundred and fifty thousand monthly payment. A unilateral decision without recourse to the contractors and some pay more.
They however wondered why such practice should be inteoduced after invoices have been submitted and approved for payment by the State Tresury Office.
She was quoted to have told the contractors that the agency has just begun a grading system and a pass mark is 95 per cent while 85 per cent attracts deduction from payments.
While they are being owed, the general manager dropped a bombshell last week that the contractors should prepare to make a sacrifice for the agency as two months arrears are not feasible for payment.
Workers in the agency that spoke to weekender.ng catalogued series of maladministration being perpetrated by the lady GM.
'Can you believe that Laspark website is down as we speak and despite the fact that it's one of very cheap thing to do, the general manager is not bothered because she believes she know it all' a staff explained.
It is a known fact in the agency that she brags of her connection in the government of APC in Lagos as her mother is an influential women leader of the party.
It would be recalled that her mother was recently suspended by President Muhammadu Buhari along with the Director General of Nigeria Social Investment Trust Fund over fraud after they were grilled by the EFCC.

Politics / Sanwo-olu Expresses Shock, Sadness Over Sen. Osinowo’s Death by Mediaguru55: 10:43am On Jun 16, 2020
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed sadness over the sudden death of Senator Sikiru Adebayo Osinowo, representing Lagos East Senatorial District at the Upper Legislative Chamber of the National Assembly, who passed away on Monday morning at the age of 64 after a brief illness.

Sanwo-Olu in a condolence message, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile described Senator Osinowo’s death as a rude shock, coming at a time when the State and indeed the entire nation had just started benefiting from his wealth of political and administrative experience.

The Governor said Senator Osinowo’s demise had thrown the State into mourning, urging Lagosians, whose interests the late lawmaker represented at the National Assembly to use his death as a reminder that the battle against the ravaging coronavirus pandemic is far from being won.

“The death of Senator Bayo Osinowo is painful. He died at a time when we have just begun to consolidate on our successes and see a ray of hope in our fight against the covid-19. We must not allow the death of Senator Osinowo to deter us from forging ahead in our quest to finding a lasting solution to the dreaded disease.”

“I am saddened by the death of this fine gentleman; a loyal party man and committed democrat, with a deep understanding of the State’s social and political landscape.”

“Senator Osinowo was an extremely loyal politician, who started his political journey with the progressives and remained in the fold until his unfortunate exit today.”

“There’s no doubting the fact that he would be missed by the entire political class, particularly his immediate constituents in Kosofe, the Lagos East Senatorial District and the State as a whole.”

The Governor added that the best honour to give the deceased would be for government to speedily achieve a turn around in the State’s health sector by ensuring that no single life is lost on the account of poor health.

“We will continue to give priority attention to our health sector, improve on service delivery, trainings and other critical areas in the sector so as to ensure that no life is lost due to poor health facilities.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu condoled with the immediate family of the departed, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Senate, Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan over what he described as the loss of a “dear colleague”.

He also sympathised with members of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos and at the national level as well as the Lagos State House of Assembly.

“I pray that almighty Allah grant the soul of our beloved Bayo Osinowo eternal rest and grant him a place in Aljannah firdaus, he said.
Business / Heritage Bank Signs Alleged Rapist, Dbanj As Ambassador by Mediaguru55: 12:50am On Jun 15, 2020
While popular singer Dapo Oyebanjo, also known as D’banj is swimming in rape scandal, Heritage Bank has dangled a mouth watering partnership deal on the music star.

While celebrating his 40th birthday with much excitement the singer shared the good news on his Instagram page revealing it’s his biggest deal ever and best birthday gift.

He wrote; “HERITAGE BANK PARTNERSHIP ON MY BIRTHDAY…The biggest deal ever and the best birthday gift. Major shoutout to Heritage Bank Plc for this one. Osshey!! #40by40”

This is coming one week after a lady accused the Kokomaster of raping her in her hotel room in 2018. The allegation dominated the social media and seems the matter has been swept under the carpet.

A policy analyst Olayinka Odeaju described the action of the bank as insensitive at this time saying the bank is coming out to endorse an alleged rapist at wrong time.
Dbanj is one of the most decorated Nigerian artistes, winning the awards for Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2007, Artist of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards 2009, Best International Act: Africa at the 2011 BET Awards, and Best-selling African Artist at the 2014 World Music Awards, Evolution award at the 2015 MTV Africa Music awards.

Nairaland / General / Obasa V Sahara Reporters: Time To Act Is Now by Mediaguru55: 7:45pm On May 16, 2020
In normal climes the revelations flooding social media on allegations of corruption in the Lagos State House of Assembly presided over by the Speaker Rt Honourable Mudashiru Obasa would have led to public uproar and serious investigation by a Government whose slogan is anti-corruption. Sadly there is not a squeak from those who should be talking.

There are number of questions flowing from these allegations that need to be urgently answered :
1. Where does the State Governor stand on these allegations after all he is the custodian of lagos tax payers money or is he complicit ?
2. Where is the office of the Lagos State Auditor-General on this matter or are they complicit ?
3. Who has been auditing LAHA’s finances and where are the reports of the audits if any or are LAHA’s finances immune from oversight ?
4. Who scrutinises and reviews the audit reports of LAHA and are the reports made public ?
5. Who supervises and oversees the administration, audit and legal staff of LAHA or are they complicit ?
6. Where do the 39 other honourable members of LAHA stand on these allegations or are they complicit ?
7. Are funds allocated to LAHA, tax payers money or personal funds ?
8. Have the security services not taken public notice of these allegations backed up by documents circulating on social media?
9. Have the security services commenced any investigation into these allegations or are they complicit?
10. Does Mudashiru Obasa have immunity from investigation and prosecution or is he above the law ?
11. Are procurements at LAHA carried out in accordance with state procurements Law?
12. Does the global silence mean that the allegations of impropriety and lack of transparency against LAHA also extend to other arms of the State Government like the executive, judiciary and local government ?

The Lagos State Government as the centre of excellence needs to urgently answer these questions or lose its credibility as the No 1 State in Nigeria.

TV/Movies / London-based Music Promoter Ayodele Momodu In Credit Card Scandal by Mediaguru55: 11:59pm On May 14, 2020
As FBI hunts ‘yahoo boys’ across the world, a London-based alleged fraudster named Ayodele Momodu has been identified as a master of identity theft across United kingdom that needs to be screened by the British security operatives.

Sources say his expertise is in defrauding financial institutions through identity theft and outright cloning of credit card details across the world. Nigerians are equally not spared in his nefarious act.

The details fraudulently collected are later invested in buying airline tickets and luxury goods which are then sold to innocent potential buyers on excuse of needing urgent cash.

Ayodele who is said to own an entertainment promotion company called Home of Music based in East London also operate on pseudonym like Olivia Richelieu with an account in nationwide building society.

As the story was narrated, a man he got a budget airline ticket for was interrogated recently where he was informed that the credit cards used to purchase the ticket was stolen which left him dumbfounded.

Since the incident, Ayodele has allegedly moved his operations to the Midlands part of England.

Like a leopard that can never change its spots, it would be recalled that the fraudster once engaged in altercation with Nigerian fuji music star about three years ago over issues bothering on integrity.

It was eventually realised that the musician was scammed as the entire show and its trails were hoax since the claimed physical office on Liverpool street in London was a mere virtual rental office.

Speaking to TheMomentNews, a source said such an individual must be named and reported to save the face of other hardworking Nigerians that have been erroneously stereotyped.

Politics / Obasa: For Whom The Bell Tolls ....unfolding Crisis In Lagos State House Of Asse by Mediaguru55: 5:31pm On Mar 15, 2020
Is the bell tolling for the political death of Mudashiru Obasa, the 5th term veteran of the Lagos State House of Assembly?
Maybe not yet but there are certain ominous signs.
Astute watchers of Lagos politics will understand that the doyen of political power in Lagos, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has maintained his iron-like grip on the state's politics mainly through the control of the the House of Assembly. He used it to effectively intimidate and cajole the Governors and deputy Governors he installed after his administration.
Senator Bayo Oshinowo, aka Pepperito, was his enforcer and kingmaker in the house for close to 16 years and he did a yeomans job reminiscent of a mafia consigliere. In the last 5 years he was ably assisted by Mudashiru Obasa who had been lifted from humble beginnings by Oshinowo to the exalted position of Speaker of the House of Assembly.
With the ascension of Babajide Sanwoolu, Obasa emerged as a genetically engineered super hero with political powers apparently beyond his capacity. He is now referred to as the Acting Governor by his admirers and hangers-on and is reported to be super rich and even more powerful than the sitting Governor of the State. This was further boosted by the promotion of Oshinowo to the Senate. Obasa egged on by blind ambition raced to fill the power vacuum by snuffing out Pepper's stranglehold and loyalists in the Assembly and installing himself as the new power kid on the block. This was a key step as the new sitting Governor Babajide Sanwoolu and his inner team had to be quickly told that the Asiwaju- controlled legislature power block could work for him or against him in a twinkle of an eye.
Obasa further buoyed by a reported close to N2 billion monthly war chest in “statutory State allocations” began to assert himself in a big way by a systematic enthronement of his own “boys” in the house to the detriment of the ranking members and traditional power brokers like Pepper.
But astonishigly, things began to come to a head with reports of high handedness, unilateral sharing of funds, lopsided distribution of perks, sexual harassments, disregard for the party structure and hierarchy culminating in the scandalous N2.4 billion vehicle purchase fiasco.
The clouds have begun to gather and disgruntled members feel enough is enough and it is time to remove Obasa from his exalted perch. The Speaker, sensing that a coup plot was afoot, struck first by “arresting “ the coup plotters and bursting the Coup plot. The apparent arrowhead of this plot and avowed Pepper loyalist, former Chief Whip Rotimi Abiru, has recently come out in a newspaper interview to say that Obasa was a despot who had essentially been elevated beyond his capacity and they would not allow such a "charlatan" to destroy political careers they had laboured to build for years. This scathing newspaper interview has been followed up with an alleged petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by a civil society group, the Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HUMRA), where serious allegations have been tabled for investigation by the Commission. The chain-reaction that this might set off is better imagined. Recall that Obasa's predecessor, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, is yet to come out clean of the EFCC's court case.
Political leaders and the Party in Lagos have told Obasa to reverse these controversial actions but he is understandably dragging his feet to avoid loss of face and influence. However, political pundits are of the view that even if the Speaker reverses the decisions, it may be too little too late as the bell appears already to be tolling.

Politics / Badagry Unhappy As Sanwoolu Shuns Greater Lagos Fiesta by Mediaguru55: 8:32pm On Dec 28, 2019
The good people of Badagry waited in vain all through Friday night at the venue of the ongoing Greater Lagos Fiesta in anticipation of Governor Babajide Sanwoolu.
But it was a wait for the proverbial godot as the governor never showed up as announced in the media.
The presence of Tourism Commissioner, Mrs Shulamite Adebolu, the Special Adviser Bonu Solomon Sanu and Badagry Local Government Chairman, Hon. Segun Onilude, among others could not compensate for the disappointment on the faces of people.
The governor was said to have chosen Badagry as the first of the five centres of the musical fiesta to visit, but his no-show scenario became a disappointment to the people and another blow to the Greater Lagos show that has been lacklustre since it began on Christmas day, according to #BadagryPeoplesVoice.
No formal reason was given for the governor's absence tbereby fuelling suspicion that that the news about his coming was a ploy to draw attention and improve attendance for the show that is struggling to make an impression.
Only Tony Teluila was the known musician that performed. And he was the first known name to appear in Badagry since the event started on Christmas day. Everyone is wondering artistes have abandoned the show this year. Only DJ, MC and a few unknown artistes have dominated the stage and bored the audience.
Interestingly, if the Governor had come, he would not have seen the show as he would have been sitting behind the stage like other dignitaries at the VIP section that was hurriedly constructed but badly positioned on Friday evening in anticipation of the governor's visit.

Events / Greater Lagos Fiasco: Sanwoolu's End-year Show In A Wobbly Start by Mediaguru55: 12:06pm On Dec 26, 2019
Agege stadium was totally deserted. Ikorodu town hall was under lock and key. No music; no stage set-up; no trading activity and no crowd.
There was no life!
No Greater Lagos extravaganza which the Lagos State Government promised would start simultaneously across the 5 IBILE venues on Xmas day.
At the Epe recreation youth centre, crowd came out, only to meet a lonely DJ struggling to hold the restive crowd. No single artiste, upcoming or superstar, to flag off what was meant to kick start a 7-day extravaganza. The crowd looked in bewilderment, seeing nothing close to what they had been fed with in the last four years. DJ struggled to invite a few young lads on stage for dance. But it held no spark. Minutes ran into a few hours of the same lifeless show. And then it was all over.
The same dim atmosphere pervaded Badagry grammar school venue of the Badagry show. Royalties and VIPs were not in sight. In the absence of artistes to entertain, Son of the soil, Bonu Solomon Sanu, who is SA to Governor Jide Sanwoolu on Culture mounted the stage himself to dance local 'ogu' dance. The show never really took off. It was all over by 10pm. Disappointments written on many faces.
The Eko Atlantic, Victoria Island venue recorded a bit of life, mainly with the DJ, MC and a few dance groups to entertainment the revellers. It was a fair attempt, but far from the spark of what Lagosians were used to. None of the location was broadcast live on Ltv as it used to be in previous years.
Day 1 of what was meant to be Great Lagos Fiesta fell flat. The promise of a 7-day, 5-venue extravaganza started on a wrong note. The 35-concert show promised by Tourism Commissioner, Shuli Adebolu, turns a mirage.
Did Lagos State Government lie to the public or the organisers - ministry of tourism, were and ill prepared and overwhelmed?
Findings shows it was combination of both. Planning was obviously defective and communication was confusing.
Tourism ministry officials in hush tones exonerate themselves, saying the blame for a shoddy start should be laid st the table of the Commissioner and her external consultant who abandoned the previous template and refused to carry them along till the last minute when the show could no longer be salvaged.
It was learned that the main consultant for the show is linked to Seyi Tinubu, son of APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who is said to have been paid upfront the entire budget provision ordinarily meant to produce the usual 8-day, 5-venue show.
But the consultant reportedly said their brief was to produce a spectacular show at Eko Atlantic on December 31st to usher in the new year, the reason why they tagged it Greater Lagos 2020. To them, all artistes contracted plus the planned drone show are meant for December 31st.
Government sources however disclosed that the ministry was constrained to return to the previous template of One Lagos Fiesta as done under the previous government because of petition from local governments in Ikorodu, Badagry, Epe, and Ikeja-Agege divisions not to abandon the OLF template because of its attendant joy and economic benefits to people of those localities.
More importantly, the House of Assembly was said to have reminded the ministry that the budgetary provision for the show stipulated that it was meant for 8 days and 5 locations, and any attempt to spend the entire sum in one day will violate appropriation law.
Sensing danger and unable to retrieve the money paid to the consultants, the ministry was forced to first propose a staggered show that will have the fiesta move from one location to the other for five days till the final day that will hold simultaneously across the 5 ibile zones.
Still not satisfactory to the House of Assembly, the ministry finally settled for a 7-day, 5-venue show without the children's corner that used to hold in the afternoon and the Lagos Grows Talent competition that woukd have started audition few weeks to the event in all the 5 locations.
A popular betting organisation is said to have come to the ministry's aid with sponsorship after all attempts to get additional approval from the governor failed.
The Speaker, Obasa is believed to have been disappointed that the show did not hold on Day 1 of the extravaganza in his own zone. Governor Sanwoolu also did not visit any of the venues contrary to what was announced in the media.
An anonymous senior government official at the Eko Atlantic zone show opined that Tourism ministry should not have deviated from successful template of the last four years. "They should have toed the line of education ministry which has continued with the template of Ready, Set Work without changing its original name. Governor did not instruct anybody to tamper with a fiesta that has brought joy and economic gain to millions of Lagosians. To the best of my knowledge, he only asked them to rename it as Greater Lagos Fiesta. Let's hope they have not turned it to a memorable lesser Lagos extravaganza".

Politics / Still On Ambode And The 40 Housemen by Mediaguru55: 8:42pm On Oct 10, 2019
At a time that torrential rainfall and grinding gridlock are threatening the lives and livelihood of many Lagosians, the 40 elected men in the state's house of assembly have curiously chosen to play the ostrich. Their own survival comes first (As evident in the vote of confidence passed on Speaker Obasa and clean bill of health on another honourable member who was fingered in malfeasance) before the issues bothering millions of Lagosians can be addressed. And then they chose their familiar customer, former governor Akin Ambode to pummel, over the probe of 820 mass transit buses the former governor ordered to ease the suffering of Lagosians.
Of all the matters of great inyerest to the state and its millions of citizens, what was of interest to Obasa's House, from its plenary earlier today, is how to summon Ambode to appear before the Assembly; issue him a warrant of arrest if possible, along with four commissioners that served with him.
It is always a big stress commenting about politicians and their cohorts. On a good day, they are birds of the same feather who are better left to their shenanigans.
But these are not the best of times in Lagos. Everybody is moaning and groaning. Aside Governor Sanwoolu and his deputy who were elected into office, House of Assembly houses the next most important set of elected representatives of the people.
What they are up to should thus be of interest to a tax payer like me. And I don't think this unending Ambode chasing strikes the right chord at all.
You want to arrest a man you have not even invited to come and defend any allegation? And what is the offence this time really? That Ambode approved the purchase of buses using the Paris Club Fund refund. Ambode was not accused of embezzling the Paris Club refund. He was not accused of inflating the cost of the buses. Or diverting a few of the buses into personal use. Speaker Obasa and his men are only saying they were not carried along.
Please, let's be serious here. We are talking about a governor putting into good use the same Paris Refund that some of his former colleagues could not even account for.
When Ambode was accused of not being a good party man in the heat of his troubles with the powers that be in Lagos APC last year, could they be referring to the fact that the Paris Club was not shared as food for the boys?
It is time to cut the chase and be seen to be assisting Sanwoolu in getting his bearing.
How the Lagos Assembly could write its name in gold is to work with the new governor to get the remaining buses cleared and put into good use for the immediate benefit of hapless Lagosians who are currently faced with traumatic experience of daily commuting.
Playing hide and seek with Ambode won't get the remaining buses out. Returning the House to the good old days of Senator Mamora, when brains and not brawn, were applied, is what will get Lagos working again.
