As per the first penalty, yes, Messi was in an offside position but Antonini played the ball back. . . . therefore, no offside. The first was very legit. The 2nd though, I thought the ref should have just let it fly. I wouldn't give that if I were the ref. It was just too soft. |

Not the prettiest of displays but can't argue with the result though. Nice passing but not sharp in the final third, with Xavi off it just turned ugly... Thiago and Adriano both should have finished their chances but in the end it didn't matter so it all cool! |

usbcable: and YESSSSSSSSSSSS.1st goal: It's one of those which he tries 10 per game and we all laugh at him. Then he puts one of those away after like 1000 attemps per year and then everybody says what a rocket, best player ever. 2) He wanted to dive or he actually dived for a penalty, but won a freekick instead. His first freekick goal of the season after like 60-70 attempts and that was a lucky deflection as well, shit freekick as always. |

Bojan scored for Roma vs Novara. He started the game. His 5th goal of the season. Not bad, considering that majority of his appearances have come as sub. He has only played 1035 minutes in the league. 5 goals in 1035 minutes is a decent return. |

As per Madrid's game, did anyone see how desperate CR was to surpass Messi in the Pichichi race that he tackled Higuain who was about to score. I couldn't stop laughing #thingsmessiwouldmakeyoudo |

Stealthy: Meanwhile, can we buy Muniain? Has any Basque player ever played with us? But seriously, it would be a shame to see him play for Madrid or one of the EPL teams. If he has to leave Bilbao, we really should get him and send Cuenca on loanWe've had many Basque players play for us - Txiki Begristain, Zubizareta, Goikoetxea, etc. Cruyff's Dream Team had quite a lot of them. |

AjanleKoko:Athletic have been very poor in the league of late. Lost their last three. It's like they are channeling all their efforts towards winning the EL. It's understandable though. Fourth place seems to be out of reach, Malaga seem to have got that on lock and they'd be playing in Europe next season anyway since they reached the copa final so EL represents their only chance of winning a trophy. My preffered line up vs Athletic: -----Valdes----- ----Alves----Pique----Puyi----Muniesa---- ----Keita---- ----Iniesta----Thiago---- ----Pedro----Messi----Tello---- Key players should be rested ahead of the Milan game on Tuesday. Adriano can come on as sub for Muniesa in the 2nd half. I expect him to play a big part on Tuesday. We missed him at the San Siro. He would have really stretched that Milan defence with his bombing forward. Xavi can come on for Iniesta and Sanchez for Messi. Cesc's injured, between. Expected to be fit for Tuesday though. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by medjai(m): 11:48pm On Mar 29, 2012 |
Our main problem vs Milan was width - we didn't stretch the Milan defence wide enough. It was easy for them to maintain their shape at the back. This is part of the problem with playing Iniesta as a winger. He has more bad games than good ones playing from that position. We didn't offer much threat down the right either apart from Alves. Sanchez always tends to drift into that CF position and become our focal point in attack with Messi playing off him. Story of the match? Distribution of attack: Right flank-33%. Middle-45%. Left flank-only 21%. I do understand why Pep played Keita for 90 mins. though. It was for tactical reasons. He was trying to avoid an Inter, San Siro repeat. Pep could have made his subs earlier. Tello could have been introduced earlier. He really troubled the Milan defence with his pace and skill when he came on. Good thing is we didn't concede. We just need to win at home. |

chic2pimp:I'm not blaming the result on the state of the pitch but truth is the pitch was bad. It was like they poured ogbono soup on the pitch just minutes before kickoff. It was very slippery and players from both sides easily lost their balance. That aside, it wasn't best of performances from us. We played under-par last night. I know that Milan away is not an easy game, but I expected more from the team in such a season-defining game. We seemed tired(which is a bit weird, since we had 3 days of proper rest) and also lacked a bit in resolve. Iniesta despite being played out of position, should have done a lot more. Alexis lacks in finishing and decision-making. The initiative is still ours but the 2nd leg is just 90 minutes and luck can play a big role. If Milan go ahead, prepare yourselves for an Inter/Chelsea bus-parking. The team must be in tip-toe condition for the 2nd leg and for that reason, key players must be rested for the Bilbao game. |

coogar:Lying? It's you whose stats are dodgy. Messi has taken 9 penalties in the league since 08/09 and has scored 8. Ronaldo has taken 23 and scored 22. Since 08/09, Barcelona have had 12 penalties in the league, Madrid have had 28. Compare with other teams: Chelsea have had 20 and Man Utd, 16, in the same period. No other team in the world get as much penalties as Madrid. . . .And you are surprised Ronaldo is scoring a goal a game? just as good? yet he's the first player to score more than 40 goals in la liga?Replace Ronaldo with any decent striker and the records would be just as good. Ronaldo has scored 35 goals(10 pks) from 2543 minutes in the league. Higuain, 18 goals from 1307 minutes. Ronaldo is scoring a goal every 72.65 minutes, Higuain, a goal every 72.61 minutes. If Higuain had played as much minutes as Ronaldo at that rate, he would have scored 35 goals, same as Ronaldo. If he had taken the 10 pks Ronaldo took this season, he would have scored 45 goals in the league or close to since he may not convert all. If this Madrid team played for Higuain, like they do Ronaldo, he would easily be scoring 80 - 100 goals every season who cares how old messi was when he made his 131st appearance.Messi was 22 as at the time he made his 131st appearance for Barca, was Ronaldo scoring a goal a game when he was 22? ronaldo is the fastest to reach 100 goals in la liga history. it took ronaldo just 2.5 seasons to reach 100 goals.I don't understand why you insist on standing history on its head. Langara is La Liga's fastest 100. 14 years or 40 years or whatever, he scored 104 goals in 90 league appearances. Ronaldo, 101 goals in 91 league appearances. Langara is the person that has played the least games to get to 100 La Liga goals - he's La Liga's fastest 100 131 goals in 131 apps for real madrid.Abegi! Let him win La Liga first before we talk about murder and cremation. He has not won the biggest prize in the league he supposedly murdered, isn't that funny? And which ex United strikers? Hope RVN isn't one of them? He was hit and miss. Yeah, he won the Pichichi and Madrid won the league, but Barca were in transition that season. . . They chased him out with a cutlass in the end. messi does not have a ratio of 1 goal/game that ronaldo has. With all those freebies, even Heskey would be scoring a goal a game and break all types of record. may is a few couple of weeks away. ronaldo would lift la liga this season. Then lets save the ode until then. after winning the pichichi, broke the 40-league goal mark, the fastest player to score 100 league goals? He isn't La Liga's fastest 100 and yeah, he needs to win a league title. No league title, no "cutting it", why must we change the rules now? |

coogar:The issue isn't about Ronaldo's conversion ratio, it's about the insane amount of penalties Real Madrid get. Ronaldo has taken 24 penalties in 2.5 seasons, that's a crazy amount of penalties. How many penalties have United or any EPL team for that matter had in the last 2 1/2 seasons? 24 penalties in less than 3 seasons should be a record in itself. Messi 27 penalties in 6.5 seasons, Ronaldo 24 penalties in 2.5 seasons. . . it's absurd! I'm not blaming Ronaldo for the amount of penalties Madrid get but no other player in the world profits from such largesse and it has hugely impacted the number of goals he has scored. Replace Ronaldo with Heskey in that team and his record would be just as good. . . . I just think we should consider all these before singing Ronaldo's praise to the rafters. cristiano has scored 131 goals in 131 apps for real madrid and you are talking about penalties?Your question should be how old was Messi when he made his 131st appearance for Barça. Who cares if it took Langera 8 centuries? He's is the fastest to reach 100 goals in La Liga history. I read somewhere it took him 85 games to get to 100 goals. See coogar trying to change football rules. It's the not the number of years that matter but the number of games and in Langera's era, La Liga was not a 20 team league like we have it today so Langera played lesser games per season. ronaldo has murdered la liga.Is that how they murder a league in your village? If Ronaldo has murdered La Liga then perhaps, we have to resort to an interpretative dance to describe what Messi has done to the same league because I don't think there's any word to describe that. Murder La Liga? The same La Liga he's yet to win? Lol. Murder La Liga with only one Copa del Rey ? Lol. Even Kanoute has won multiple CDR. Going by your logic, coogar, Ronaldo is yet to "cut it" in La Liga since he's yet to win a league title. |

usbcable: Medjai,I don't think it's fair to talk about Ronaldo's scoring records without mentioning how many of those goals are PK's. His scoring record is seriously amplified by PK's. . . .It puts everything into perspective. Ronaldo isn't La Liga's fastest 100. Isidro Langara is. |

Barca B 2 - Alcoyano 1: Back to back wins for Barca B. Rodri scored the first goal and Jean Marie Dongou scored the winner. He's still a Juvenil A player(16 years) but he has been making appearances for the B team. He's a very exciting prospect. One of the biggest talents coming through. He will likely get promoted to the B team next season. |

coogar:He has scored 22 penalties between. Plus, he's got some of the best players in the world playing for him and laying goals on a plate for him. Heck! Madrid are the most expensively assembled side in the history of the sport and the entire team plays for Ronaldo, it's a no brainer. Infact, I'm surprised it took him this long to get to 100 goals. Any half-decent striker will break scoring records having this Madrid side play for him. Higuain has scored 18 goals(0 pk) from 1307 minutes. Ronaldo has scored 35 goals(10 pks) from 2543. Damn! If this team were built around Higuain. |

Wonderful performance from Montoya . As soon as Pep brought him on the game changed and he began creating a whole lot of space with his occasional runs forward. Also, his defensive work was outstanding. Should have scored though. Tough match! Mallorca is one of those grounds where it's just tough to get a result. Glad we won. |
