Business / Re: Is Cyber Cafe Business Going Extinct In Nigeria? by mekosa: 4:18pm On Jan 28, 2013
i have been in the cafe business for over 5years now(since 2007).have enjoyed so much thru it cos my cafe is situated opposite a university.now i must tell u that the business in nose diving ,reason been the modem is very cheap and affordable.I sensed that staying in the business for so long without looking for an alternative source of income would seriously hit me financially if i did not do something urgently,so i decided to look for something else to do along side.something that could give me daily income even on a sunday.i then ventured into poultry farming in 2010.i started with 200 birds, after 1500,then 2,800.now the farm has grown and we have 4,300 laying birds on the farm.the business is sweet if u have knowledge and perseverance.YOU MUST BE PATIENT AND READY TO SPEND.Almost all i was making from my cafe for the past 3years was going into the farm,my family(wife and kids) felt the brunt. This is just a word of advice to my colleagues who own cyber cafes, dont get cut in between, try and diversify.let the cafe run, look for other areas of interest that are highly lucrative and can sustain you for a long while(NOT A BUSINESS YOU RUN INTO AND THEN RUN OUT). businesses you can grow old with.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: It Does Not Cost Much To Establish A Cyber Cafe by mekosa: 5:52pm On Mar 31, 2008
I run a cyber cafe in jos, plateau state. Its directly opposite university of jos.Pls be informed that the business aint so easy the way you look at it.There are a lot of challenges you'll face such a light problems where you'll have to make do with generating sets.Bandwidth charges, wear and tear of your computers. Its good when you are located at a good site. Here is a little break down of what is needed for a good standard cyber cafe.

1. Fairly used P3 desktop CPU's (1ghz,256mb ram,10-20gb hdd)+ monitors say N20,000 for the set(lagos price) this then depends on the no. of systems you want to run on.

2.D-link switch 16 port(for 16 systems)- say N8,500. 8 ports for 8systems say-N5,000

3.Accomodation

4.KU band v-sat Equipment from hyperia nig ltd. It's a new equipment its very good and realiable, rain resistive to a very good extent. -N170,000, N35,000 for installation and your miscellaneous earth work expenses say N5,000.

5.Wood partitioning for monitor bays + chairs say N100,000

6.Generating set 7.5KVA say N100,000

7.ceiling fans,ac etc + miscellaneous expenses.

8.Printer(HP 1018) -N17,000,scanner HP 2400-10,000.

9.UPS one for each system(amax,maxtron-4,300, mercury- 5000)

10.Keyboards(N400),scroll mouse(N200) and optical mouse N350 for each.

Hyperia's connection is excellent and very much reliable.
