A high court sitting in the federal capital territory has been asked to issue an injunction, restraining the All Progressives Congress (APC) from holding its upcoming convention.

In a suit filed before the court by one Udo Ibe, the plaintiff, also asked the court to issue a declaration to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to de-register the party.

The plaintiff asked the court to grant the pleas following the party’s purported breach of its constitution, the 1999 constitution and the electoral act.

Named as first and second defendants in the suit filed on April 26 by Kalu Kalu, Ibe’s counsel, are the APC and INEC respectively.

Ibe accused the party in his ward — Akanu Ohofia In Ohofia local government area of Abia state, of parading an executive committee whose tenure has expired.

The plaintiff sought a declaration from the court that with the expiration of the party’s executive at the ward level, the party did not have the power to conduct a ward or local government congress for the purposes of electing its executive committee and delegates to state congress and national convention.

He prayed the court to declare that in the absence of a lawfully constituted ward/local government congress, the first defendant (the APC) also lacks the lawful capacity to conduct its state congress and national convention for the purpose of electing state and national officers in accordance with its constitution, the 1999 constitution and electoral act.

Ibe, therefore, asked the court to: “Issue a perpetual injunction restraining the second defendant from conducting any ward congress, local government area congress, state congress or the national convention of the first defendant without adhering to the provisions of articles 12 and 13 of its said constitution, the 1999 Constitution and Electoral Act .

“A declaration that in exercise of its powers under section 85(2) of the Electoral Act 2010 the second defendant can only monitor a congress or convention of the first defendant lawfully constituted and not otherwise in accordance with its constitution.

“A declaration that the first defendant ought to be deregistered by the second defendant as provided under section 78 (7) of the electoral act for being in breach of the following conditions of registration as stipulated in the 1999 constitution and the electoral act: Holding periodic election as provided in the constitution in that the first defendant did not conduct a ward or local government congress for the purpose of conducting the business of the ward or the local government before expiration of the ward or the local government area executive committees.

With the polls closed in Israel, international election observers now turn their attention to the Nigerian elections on March 28. The choice for the leader of Africa’s most populous country pits Goodluck Jonathan from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) against Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The decision by the roughly 73 million registered Nigerian voters could have a profound impact on the future of Africa.

But Western foreign policy observers pre-occupied with the rise of ISIS in the Middle East should wake up to the reality unfolding in Nigeria. Opposition candidate General Buhari wants Sharia law throughout Nigeria. In fact, he wants it everywhere.

“I will continue to show openly and inside me the total commitment to the Sharia movement that is sweeping all over Nigeria,” Mr. Buhari said. “God willing, we will not stop the agitation for the total implementation of the Sharia in the country.”

Agitation? Is this an indication that Mr. Buhari supports violence because the end goal of the terrorist attacks throughout Nigeria and Africa is an Islamic state? It is a legitimate question that should be asked by leaders of the Obama administration.

Boko Haram has pledged its allegiance and support to ISIS. The Northern Nigerian based Islamic terrorist group wants Sharia law throughout Nigeria and beyond. They are also actively terrorizing Chad, Niger and Cameroon with their goal of an Islamic state.

Mr. Buhari has also spoken sympathetically about members of the terrorist group Boko Haram, has cautioned against a rush to judgement on its members and has personally been selected by the terrorist group to lead its negotiations with the Government of Nigeria. Mr. Buhari’s election as Nigeria’s head of state would be a disaster for Africa. It would also signal trouble for the West’s fight against ISIS and terrorism throughout the Middle East.

An American man, Richard Grenell, who in 2015 linked then candidate Muhammadu Buhari to Boko Haram and ISIS and warned against his presidency, has become the US Ambassador to Germany.

Grenell, who was nominated by President Donald Trump in September 2017, passed the Senate screening by a 56-42 voting margin on April 26.

Before his appointment, the 52-year Grenell had served as the longest-serving US spokesman to the United Nations.

In a viral Op-Ed for Washington Post in the buildup to the Nigerian presidential election in 2015, the openly-gay Grenell had explained how voting the 72-year-old Buhari to lead Africa’s most populous nation could spell doom for the future of Africa.

Specifically, he said that, “Mr. Buhari’s election as Nigeria’s head of state would be a disaster for Africa”.
