Falana has at last woken up.
Amnesty International has been in Nigeria for over 60yrs, but now the tyrants army want Amnesty offices closed.
Number of people that have died as a result of Buhari's action/inaction is close to 50,000. If we include Shiites, Ipobs and election violence to his support for Boko-Haram, the figure might be higher.
If the dullard wins next year, expect the Nigerian constitution to be thrown in the waste bin.

PoliticsShock: Femi Adesina Blames Nigerians For Poor Corruption Rating by melvinjames(op): 8:20am On Oct 03, 2018
Femi Adesina: Nigeria’s poor rating on corruption is a low mark for citizens – not government

Femi Adesina: Nigeria’s poor rating on corruption is a low mark for citizens – not government

Femi Adesina, spokesman of President Muhammadu Buhari, says Nigerians share in the blame of the country’s bad ranking in Transparency International’s (TI) corruption perception index (CPI).

In 2017, Nigeria dropped from 136 in 2016 to 148 on the index of TI.

The ranking was seen as a blow to the current administration which claims to have the fight against corruption as one of its core mandates.

But speaking during a Channels Television’s programme on Monday, Adesina said the ranking is about Nigerians and not the federal government.

“My position is that that ranking is not strictly about government, it is about Nigeria and her people. Some people want to make it seem as if it is a vote of no confidence in government or a lower mark for government, I don’t agree,” he said.

“I think it is a lower mark for the people, because the people constitute the country. And I think if things do not seem to have worked as they should work, the people also have part of the brunt; they have part of the blame to bear.”

He also chided TI for the ranking, saying the country does not need it to verify whatever effort the current administration is making in anti-graft war.

“As much as I respect Transparency International, I don’t think we necessarily need them to authenticate what is going on in the country because we Nigerians know that there is a war against corruption ongoing and that war is succeeding. There are strides being taken. We may not be there yet but we are on our way there,” he said.

“So, let no agency from any part of the world come to think that whatever it says is the gospel to us. It can help, it can inform what is happening but it s not something that will be a milestone round the neck of government.”

EXCLUSIVE: How Lawal Idris, Ex-Kogi Gov’s Son, Forged YabaTech Certificate To Win House Of Reps Seat.

The following day a letter from Adenuga Adijat on behalf of the Registrar, addressed to the CP and titled ‘Re: Authentication of Certificate: Lawal Mohammed Idris’, disowned the said certificated. “Your request on above refers,” Adijat wrote. “Please be informed that Lawal Mohammed Idris was not a registered student of the college and the attached certificate which was said to have been issued to him did not emanate from Yaba college of Technology. Kindly discountenance his claim. Thank you.”

When Lawal Idris, the lawmaker representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency of Kogi State, goes to the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of representatives primary as he formally begins his quest for another stint at the lower chamber, it will be with a forged certificate from Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech).

This is a first in the world, no one has heard of this tactics till now.
The way it works is that you give handkerchiefs to your supporters a day before the election.
Next you Mount a barrier near the polling boots, anyone without your colour of handkerchief is immediately disqualified from voting. Genius!

Democracy died in Nigeria the day Buhari became president.

PoliticsRe: Osun: PDP To Strike Deal With Omisore, Others: SaharaReporters by melvinjames(op): 9:58am On Sep 24, 2018
As long as the other parties join PDP, it is a foregone conclusion.
PoliticsOsun: PDP To Strike Deal With Omisore, Others: SaharaReporters by melvinjames(op): 9:52am On Sep 24, 2018
There were indications in Abuja on Sunday that the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party might strike a deal with a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, in a bid to win the state rerun governorship election slated for Thursday, investigations by our correspondent have revealed.

Omisore is the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party in the election in which the candidate of the PDP, Senator Ademola Adeleke, came first with 254, 698 votes while the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, came second with 254,345 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has, however, said there would be rerun in some polling units where elections were cancelled.

The units, which were listed by the commission, are two in Orolu Local Government Area, one in Ife South Local Government Area, one in Ife North Local Government Area and one in Osogbo Local Government Area.

It was gathered that the PDP had already initiated discussions with Omisore towards winning the two units in his stronghold of Ife.

Apart from Omisore, the PDP was said to be planning to meet with candidates of other political parties that had what a source described as a “worthy outing” during the election on Saturday.

Such candidates, it was gathered, are African Democratic Congress’ Fatai Akinbade and Action Democratic Party’s Alhaji Moshood Adeoti.

Already, it was gathered that a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, had spoken with Omisore on the need for the latter to support the PDP candidate in the rerun.

Fani-Kayode, who is also from Ile Ife like the former deputy governor, confirmed that he had spoken with both Omisore and Adeleke on the issue.

The former minister told our correspondent that there was a need for the parties to come together and “bury the ruling party in the state on Thursday.”

He said, “Yes, it is true that I have spoken with my brother, Senator Omisore, and our (PDP) candidate, Senator Adeleke, on the issue.

“I can tell you confidently that both of them are receptive to the idea and I can tell you that we are going to meet together to discuss working relationship before Thursday.

“We are not talking about any condition. We are doing all these for the love of our party and our people. We need to liberate the state from the vultures and invaders of our commonwealth. By the grace of God, we shall do it.”

It was gathered that a former Governor of the state, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, would be involved in a discussion with Akinbade.

Oyinlola, it was learnt, would prevail on Akinbade, who served as the secretary to the state government while the former military administrator was the governor of the state, to support the deal.

Besides that, it was also learnt that the National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, would personally speak with Akinbade, who was also a former state chairman of the PDP while Secondus was also chairman of the former ruling party in Rivers State.

Top sources in the PDP confided in our correspondent that the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, who also heads the party’s 85-member governorship campaign council in the state, would be involved in the negotiations.

It was generally believed that Saraki’s efforts at bringing the runner-up in the party’s governorship primary in the state, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, with Adeleke, helped the party on Saturday.

The source said, “We will involve Saraki in our meetings with these men. We cannot afford to lose the election in the state.

“Then, don’t forget that we have a working relationship with all the opposition political parties under the umbrella called Coalition of United Political Parties. We will invoke the spirit behind that.”

Secondus, who also spoke with our correspondent on the matter, appealed to the aspirants to cooperate with the PDP to “rescue the nation, starting from Osun State, from the grip of a party that is not sensitive to the plight of the citizens.

PoliticsINEC To Ban Phones During Osun Election by melvinjames(op): 9:27am On Aug 10, 2018
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Osun State, Mr Olusegun Agbaje, has said the Independent National Electoral Commission, in collaboration with security agents, will do everything to prevent vote-buying during the September 22 governorship election in the state.

The REC, who said this in Osogbo on Thursday, at a meeting held with the governorship candidates, their running mates and party officials as part of the preparations of the commission ahead of the poll, stressed that voters would not be allowed to use telephones to take photographs of their ballots.

According to him, some voters have been using cameras to take photographs of their ballots and show the same photos to politicians to be paid for voting for them.

Agbaje, who was the REC that conducted the August 2014 governorship election in the state before he was transferred to Ondo State and brought back again, said the INEC was determined to conduct a transparent and violence-free election in Osun State and needed the cooperation of all stakeholders to achieve this.

CultureRe: "We Are Hungry" - Umar Faruq, The Emir Of Daura by melvinjames(op): 8:41am On Aug 07, 2018
We told them not to vote Buhari but they didn't listen.
Culture"We Are Hungry" - Umar Faruq, The Emir Of Daura by melvinjames(op): 8:39am On Aug 07, 2018
The Emir of Daura, Dr. Umar Faruq Umar, has raised the alarm over lack of support for the people of the emirate from the centre despite their son being the president of Nigeria.

The traditional ruler added that the people of the community are “hungry”.

The Emir made this known on Monday when Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, paid him a courtesy visit while on a working visit to the state.

He said that President Muhammadu Buhari is known for his principles and will not influence siting of projects in the area but appealed to the President’s appointees to do the needful.

The Emir specifically accused Buhari’s ministers of not doing enough to assist Daura with a viable project.

“Buhari by his nature will not influence the siting of any projects in Daura. But his Ministers who benefitted from his appointment should reciprocate by bringing developmental projects to Daura, his birth place.

“It is a call to duty for the Ministers to make provision in their Ministry’s budget of ensuring that Daura benefitted immensely from Buhari administration.

“If the Ministers failed to site any projects to Daura, they have betrayed the President and people of Daura.

“Like the Rice production in Kebbi State. Katsina has prospects in rice production and irrigation farming.

“Katsina has dams and irrigation sites like Sabke, Jibia, Zobe, Daberan, Mai Ruwa dams and if utilized and reciprocated has potentials of feeding the state and it’s neighbours.

“I urge you to go back, look inwards and search for what, how you can assist people of Daura. Daura is faced with absence of projects for its development and its people are hungry and need federal government’s assistance.”

Responding, Ogbeh said the ministry will look into the issue of establishment of a rice mill as well as providing improved seeds to create jobs in Daura emirate.

Earlier, Ogbeh said that his ministry had kicked off a plan to establish a tomatoes farm and processing plants that will create about six thousand (6,000) jobs for farmers growing tomatoes.

He said that the project would stop importation of tomatoes in the country.
