The military has employed the services of local fishermen and farmers in the search for the abducted Dapchi schoolgirls, the head of counter-insurgency operation in the North East (Operation Lafiya Dole), Maj. Gen. Rogers Nicholas, has said. Speaking at the inauguration of helipad, office complex and residential quarters for officers and airmen at the newly established 171 Nigerian Air Force Detachment in Monguno town by the National Security Adviser, Maj-Gen. Babagana Monguno on Tuesday evening, Nicholas said over 200 hours have been spent by crafts combing the Theatre for the schoolgirls. Nicholas said the National Security Adviser (NSA) and Chief of Air Staff (CAS) came down to add value to the ongoing search for the missing Dapchi schoolgirls. He said both have been flying round the Theatre to contribute to the ongoing search for the girls. He said: “What this means is that nobody is sitting down, sleeping over it. It means that the government is serious in rescuing these abducted girls. Primarily, that is why the NSA is here to see things for himself and add value to what we are doing. “Having said that, the NSA has also introduced us to some locals; fishermen and farmers which have very good knowledge of this terrain to work with us in terms of intelligence to contribute to the search efforts we are making. “The Nigerian Air Force has been airborne since the last three days and we will also declared additional platforms to do this exercise, as I speak many areas have been covered, over 200 hours have been spent flying combing the whole theatre in search of the girls. “Additionally the ground forces are there in various places searching in various places identified.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has formally withheld assent to the bill seeking to establish the Peace Corps and gave reasons for his action. The President’s decision must be a great blow to the campaigners for the establishment of the Peace Corps, who at various times have had clashes with the Nigerian Police. Buhari wrote a letter to the House of Representatives on the issue. The letter was read at the plenary on Tuesday by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara. Buhari cited security concerns and financial burden of funding the organisation by the government as his reasons for rejecting the bill. According to the President, given “scarce government resources”, funding the organisation will be a financial burden on the federal government. Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Nollywood star, says her most preferred music genre is soft rock. The actress said on her first album, she was inclined to make rock music but her handlers discouraged her from doing so. She said music executive, Obi Asika, advised her to embrace the use of indigenous sounds and lyricism to appeal to the Nigerian audience. Jalade-Ekeinde made this known in an interview with Adesua Onyenekwe on her talk show, ‘Seriously Speaking’. “My first album was not 100% a true representation of me. Because I wanted to do rock. When it comes to music, I am more of a soft rock person,” said the actress who recently turned 40. “I wasn’t allowed to do that. Shout out to Obi Asika, he was my mentor for my first album. The late OJB was my producer. “They thought ‘you can’t come out and do rock’. We are talking about 2005 when people were just starting to like Nigerian music. “My second album is more of me, the way I think and the kind of issues I like to talk about. Like ‘Barren land’ which was adopted by Amnesty International. “When I write music, it’s mostly my activism side speaking.” Early in her music career, the actress had said she would put out a music album every five years. But she says a new project will only be released after “building my own place where people who like my music can come and watch”. The actress’ first album contained 10 songs, which included standout track, ‘Gba’. SOURCE: https://streetnetngr.com/first-album-didnt-represent-omotola-speaks-music-career/

The federal government has released a new directive on how President Muhammadu Buhari should be addressed at formal functions. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, gave the directive in a circular sent to ministries, departments and agencies of the federal government. “Government has observed with concern the inconsistent manner in which the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria is addressed during Official and Private functions. It has, therefore, become necessary to have a standard format for addressing him at such formal occasions,” Mr. Mustapha wrote in the circular dated January 26. “To this end, Mr President shall henceforth be addressed as ‘‘MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA.’’ except in purely Armed Forces Programmes, where “COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES OF FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA” will be added. Neymar Jr., the world’s most expensive footballer, was stretchered off 10 minutes from time at the Parc des Princes on Sunday night as Paris Saint-Germain beat Marseille 3-0 and opened up a 14-point lead in Ligue 1. The 26-year-old was on his own when he innocuously rolled his ankle and flopped to the ground in pain. “The first examination in the locker room revealed that it was a twist to the ankle. Now we will do a medical examination to find out what this twist is,” said Unai Emery, whose team face Real Madrid at home on March 6 in the Champions League last 16 where they need to overturn a 3-1 deficit. Residents of Ogheghe community, Ovia North East Local Government Area, Edo State, have raised eyebrows over suspected ritual killings and kidnappings being carried out by a syndicate at an undeveloped land acquired, several years ago, on the outskirt of the community by the Nigerian Air Force. The land overgrown by bush is called “evil forest” by the villagers because of the horrible activities of supposed ritualists. However, the people are enraged that despite the killings, security agencies were allegedly closing their eyes to the strange happenings in the forest, while the Nigerian Air Force appeared apathetic. Penultimate Thursday, January 4, the community’s vigilante nearly lynched a motorcyclist suspected to be a member of the syndicate from Delta state, but the timely intervention of police officers from the Ogida Police State, led by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, saved him. A source said the suspect confessed to the vigilante that he had killed 16 persons, but Commissioner of Police, Edo Command, Mr Babatunde Kokumo, who answered questions from journalists on the matter, said it was a case of alleged murder against the suspect and not ritual killing. He dismissed the claim that people were being killed in Ogheghe forest, declaring that no incident of killing has been reported in the forest. The villagers disagreed with the police boss, accusing him of being insensitive to their plight. Inside the supposed “evil forest”...
