All of the igbo soups. |
“Good morning…oh hey, good morning…how are you today…hope you had a great night…how’s work going this morning…” Athena sauntered through the office to her cubicle. Everyone stared at her as she walked by with a bright halo over her head. The “bïtch of the business room” seem to be in a great mood today. Even the intern she had barked at several weeks ago was taken aback by the praise she gave her, correcting some tiny flaws without having her head chewed off. “Madam Chambers, you look so radiant today,” the makeup lady exclaimed while working on her for her morning schedule. “I do?” “Yes. What’s happened to you?” “Nothing! It’s the same me that I’ve always been.” “No you’re not!” she smiled, “on a normal day you would have started yelling at me by now. Today you seem…happy, relaxed. Your skin’s glowing and you look more beautiful than ever.” “Th.-thanks,” Athena blushed. This was strange. Everyone she had met so far today had complemented her appearance and looks. Nothing serious happened to her overnight to change her mood, except…she paused. Her heart skipped a beat. Could it be the sex? She still couldn’t recollect how she had ended up n@ked and being fukced by her ex-husband. The warm feeling from last night still glowed in her belly, and in all honesty, she had felt bright and refreshed when she got up that morning. It was the first time in ages she had had a sound sleep. Was the sex she had the cause of her mood change? “Wow, turn the brilliance of that smile down Ms. Chambers!” the lead cameraman exclaimed and pulled out a pair of shades from his shirt pocket, “you’re gonna make someone blind here!” Athena laughed as she took her seat in front of the cameras and lights. She smoothed her suit over her protruding chest and beamed at the camera. “We go live in three…two…one…” -------------------------------------------- The deputy director of news media stared at the TV screen for some moments. “The arrogant bïtch seems to be in a great mood today,” he murmured. “Yes,” the lady perched on the edge of his desk replied, “she’s been that way all day. Who knew she could have such a radiant personality.” He turned to the files spread open on his desk. “About this therapist,” he said, “how do we handle this kind of news? A guy who runs an undercover prescription drug ring, even though he lost his license to practice years ago?” “We first have to find some of his patients or clients…those he has treated. We need solid evidence before we can run any story on this. If this is true, then we might have well have landed on some explosive bombshell.” Deputy director glanced at the photograph in the file. “What does he think he’s doing?” |

gal10:Yeah. Most of your comments come shortly after I post an update, and with the time difference between here and Naija, I assumed you were on this side of the planet as well. |
gal10:By chance are you in the US? |
Richard got off the train and headed down the platform towards the street below. The streetlights cast an illuminating path to guide him safely as he tried to process all that happened earlier tonight. He slowly walked the last several hundred yards towards their condominium building. He tried rehearsing what was in his mind for the hundredth time, what he was going to say to Athena, to tell her he was moving out. He did not need to feel guilty about it. They were divorced. He gazed up at the sky. It was a cloudless night, and the almost full moon cast a silver light on the environment. Now that he thought about it, it was quite silly of him to have even agreed to it in the first place. He had managed to convince Avery, and all he needed to do right now was make up on his promise. He walked into the lobby of the building and took the elevator to the tenth floor. He keyed in the door code and stepped into the dark hallway. Athena sat on the sofa in front of the TV. She must have just concluded her nightly yoga routine as she had on her usual tight body revealing sports bra and yoga pants. She had a half-filled glass of red wine in her hand, and she glanced at him as he walked into the sitting room. “I’m home,” he greeted her. “Welcome back,” she responded. “I tried calling you earlier today.” “Really? I didn’t know you called.” Something about her did not seem right. She had a dull, vacant, and rather lethargic look in her demeanor. Her voice lacked the usual energy. “Yes,” he replied, peering at her closely, “around six-thirtyish?” “Oh, I was at at the doctor’s at that time…” “You came to the hospital today?” “No, not YOUR hospital,” she said, staring at the contents of her glass, “…I went to another clinic.” Richard sat down beside her. “What’s wrong with you? Are you feeling ill?” “You don’t need to know.” “Hey, I’m a doctor remember? You could have asked me instead of going to pay for another doctor’s consultation.” “Why should I?” Athena asked, “why are suddenly acting like you care? Like we’re still married? You're no longer my husband, remember?” Richard studied her closely. Something was definitely not right about her. The normal Athena would have blown a gasket. She just seemed…off…low energy…lethargic. Was the stress of everything finally getting to her? “You seem to be quite different. Are you sure you’re alright?” “I’m fine…it could be the medication I took that’s making me feel dizzy and tired.” “Medication? What medication? Can I see them?” “What’s wrong with you? Stop invading in my privacy!” she barked. She took a sip from her glass. “So what did you call me for?” “What?” “You said you tried to reach me earlier today. What did you want?” “Oh, right…your dad’s condition has slowly been improving…” Her face brightened. “Really?” “Yes. I don’t think we will need to carry out surgery. A few rounds of chemotherapy should cure him.” “That’s a relief,” she sighed, “I was worried so much something would happen to him eventually.” She turned to face him. “Thanks for looking after him Richard,” she said softly. “You don’t need to thank me. I’m just doing my job…one more thing though.” “Yes?” He twiddled his thumbs nervously. “I…I think I should move out.” Silence. “I realized, thinking about it, it’s quite strange we are living together, though we’re divorced. It doesn’t seem right…” Athena drained her glass and got up. She walked to the kitchen. “So have you found a place to stay?” “Hmm? No, I’m not going to move out immediately. I just wanted to tell you about it first.” She turned on the tap and rinsed her wine glass. “You’re right, it doesn’t make sense for us to be living together…as a divorced couple. Just inform me ahead of time whenever you’ve fixed a date to move.” “S-sure.” That went rather smoother than he expected. She did not even argue or give any reaction, which was quite unusual of her. His phone rang in his pocket. “Hello? Oh, Dr. Baxter, how are you this evening?” He listened for a few moments. “Tomorrow’s OP? The patient’s blood vessels are too thin? Why are you just telling me this now?” His voice rose a notch, loud enough for Athena to hear from the kitchen. “Hey, that’s why I told you to practice beforehand on how to use the apparatus…no, don’t give me any bullshit from that philosopher guy you like quoting... NIETZSCHE or whatever his name is…you should spend more time learning how to use the required equipment than reading quotes about a dead guy. Reach out to Dr. Wu. He would be able to give you some pointers on how to use…” He looked up and Athena was standing over him. “Are you okay Athena?” Athena did not respond. She had a vacant, faraway stare in her eyes. It was the same look she had the night Weatherpunk brought her home. To his amazement, she started to strip, first shedding her yoga pants before pulling her sports bra off and tossing it aside. Richard gaped at her now almost bare body as she stood barefoot in only her brief panties. |
He switched the phone off and returned it back to her bag. Turning to the supine figure, he knelt down beside her and began to grope her exposed breasts. He lowered his lips to one and started licking and sucking the tip. He groped and pinched the other and felt it grow hard between his fingers. He slipped his hand under her short skirt and began to caress between her smooth laps, inching closer to her panties. Athena’s moan brought him back to the present. He glanced at her face. Her eyes were still far away, but he could see the life was beginning to return. She shouldn’t be coming out so soon, he thought. It had just been ten minutes he put her under. He quickly readjusted her clothes and moments later, she came out of her trance. “Ugh…how long was I under?” she asked woozily. “About fifteen minutes,” he lied. “It seemed like longer,” she replied and sat up. The therapist walked back to his desk, “yes…but I’ve learned a few more things though.” He pulled out her file again as she sat in front of him. “Work stress, your father’s illness, the divorce…the first two are pretty straightforward, but no matter how much I think about it, I still cannot wrap my head around the reason for your divorce.” “I told you that the last time,” Athena said impatiently, “my ex-husband and I were not sexually compatible. It’s only when the time, place, and my mood are in sync and in the perfect state that I think about having sex.” “I see,” he said. She stared into the distance with a forlorn look. “My husband instead kept demanding for sex ad odd and inappropriate times, and I always hated it.” “I also enjoy having sex when everything is under my perfect control,” he continued, “but I’m sure those are not the only reasons behind your issue.” “What do you mean?” The man sat forward. “You did not mention anything about your late mother.” “H-huh?” He knew he had hit a nerve. “I could detect a mental block, and that could be the key factor to everything.” She stared at him for a very long, dark moment. “You know, I had wanted to discuss something with you,” she said. “Sure…please do share.” “I would like to discontinue with this consultation and treatment.” “W-what?!” “When I first started coming here, I was weighed down with so many issues, I was almost contemplating ending it all,” she continued, “but after going through the sessions, I believe I have now come to a clearer picture as to what is wrong with my mind.” He began to sweat. “I, ah…yes, that...” She stood up and picked her bag up. “I think I should be okay now…thank you for providing me with your medical expertise and service.” The therapist quickly wracked his brain. He couldn’t let her go just like that. “Madam Chambers, please wait a moment,” he said. Athena paused halfway to the door. “Yes?” “I think you should come back for just one more session…for one more evaluation.” “Why?” she asked suspiciously. “Well…err…y’know, a mind that has undergone hypnosis may end up showing side effects…a session would be enough to cure you of any lingering things that might arise from the…treatment.” “What?!” “I’m sorry I didn’t mention it at first…but I did not know you were going to end your treatment abruptly.” He hurriedly wrote something on his pad. “is this dosage too much?”, he thought, “ahh screw it…it’s going to be the last time…I must make sure everything goes well and she doesn't come out when she's not supposed to.” He ripped the paper out and proffered it to her. “Before the final consultation, please follow this prescription. It will help in the process.” Athena took the paper from his outstretched hand and glanced at it. She folded it and slipped it into her handbag. The therapist collapsed into his chair in relief after she shut the door behind her. That was a close one, he thought. he would make sure he did everything he wanted next time. ----------------- In the parking lot on the other side of the street, sitting at the wheel of an old, dilapidated hatchback among other vehicles, the shady figure, now dressed in his well-worn suit, watched as the object of is private investigation walked to a sleek Honda Accord and got in. His hands clutched the mobile tablet and he stared at the frozen screen. He could not believe what he had just witnessed the past hour. He could not help but have a feeling of disgust. “This dude, is he…insane?!” he thought as he watched the sleek car and it's gorgeous occupant drive out of the parking lot. Luckily, he had the mind to record the footage, and it was now part of the files for his investigation. |
samjeorg:My apologies for the slow updates. As I mentioned earlier, my laptop crashed with all my files. I just recently retrieved them. |
They sat at a counter in a high-end sushi restaurant. The itamae expertly sliced the several exotic pieces of fish into bite-size pieces before carefully placing them on fine pieces of china. The gold plates contained the exquisite pieces, very delicate to the palate. Others contained not so fine fish, but still quite good. He placed each plate on the conveyor belts which brought the food to the customers. “I decided to find another place we could chat peacefully,” Richard said to Avery, who was busy studying the dishes moving on the table. “I just want to eat something good,” Avery responded as she studied the dishes, “I don’t even know what to choose from.” She reached for one of the golden plates and picked her chopsticks. “I’ve already decided that we should just act like nothing happened between us until you settle your current situation with your wife.” She dipped a piece of nigiri into some tangy soy sauce and brought it to her mouth, “wait…I think it is just better we forget about everything that happened entirely.” She chewed slowly. “I’ve really thought about this for a long time…I believe you were just forcing yourself to go out with me just because you can’t have sex with your wife anymore…” “Why are you saying all this…” “Our relationship – if we can call it a relationship – has been quite strange from the beginning.” She reached for another golden plate, “I know if we weren’t working in the same hospital, we would have just had a one-night stand…so right now I believe you’re just in this difficult drum because you’re not sure whether to break up with me or continue…” “What are you saying Avery? Do you want to break up with me?” She turned her bespectacled face to him. “Remember I told you how I felt when your wife appeared on the TV in the middle of what we were doing? I was so upset, my body just started moving on its own…I actually felt pity for myself, having sex with a married man while his wife was right there on TV.” She stared at the food passing by. “I guess our relationship is like this conveyor belt,” she continued, “some of these fine pieces of sushi could have been missed because it was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but as long as it keeps waiting, it’ll come back around.” She reached for yet another golden plate. “As long as I don’t get taken by others, there is always the chance we will get back together, right?” Richard stared at her. “Your analogy does not make the least bit of sense Avery.” She chuckled. “I believe it sums it all up perfectly. In any case, I’m going to make a big dent in your wallet tonight.” “Why?” “For treating me like a intimacy gadget. I'm going to make sure you know you lost someone who loved you so much.” She reached out for another golden plate, only to feel Richard’s hand over hers. “Avery, I’ve been really selfish to you.” He said. “Really?” “Living together with someone I already divorced…I realize I must be very crazy for you to demand you believe everything.” “I’ve always tried to act like a good guy, but I always end up hurting the ones I love and care about,” he continued. Avery just stared back at him. “What I did was really selfish, and you do not deserve it.” He took both of her hands in his, and stared into her bright eyes. “I’m so sorry for making you so depressed…I will move out of the place and get an apartment of my own.” He reached for his phone. “Infact, I’ll call her right now to let her know.” Avery jumped. “Dr. Richard, you don’t have to do that right away…” “No, I have to,” he replied as he dialed Athena, “I want to show you how serious I am. I really mean it.” He waited for a while. “She’s not picking up. Maybe she’s at the news-station.” He dialed her number again and waited while it rang. ----------------------------------------------- Several miles away, the therapist dipped his hand into her bag. “Who could be calling her right at this moment.” He grumbled and pulled out the phone. The callerID “Richard” flashed on the screen. The therapist smirked. “Unfortunately, we are still in the middle of a session,” he grinned evilly. He turned back to the semi-naked figure lying in a trance on the lounging sofa, her blouse open, bra pulled down to expose her magnificent breasts. |

I'll complete this update tomorrow. |
“Hello dad, I’m here,” Richard greeted as he walked into room 1206. “Oh Richard,” the old man replied with a cheer. He was propped up on his pillows. He looked much better today. Richard studied the chart attached to his bed as well as the bedside monitors. “So how do you feel today?” he asked. “Hmm, same old me,” he responded, “all thanks to Nurse Avery who has been really taking good care of me.” Richard turned to Avery whom he had noticed when he first came in. She had been trying to keep herself busy doing other things while he talked to the old man. “Which reminds me,” the old man said, “she told me she would not be able to take care of me anymore…something about being transferred to another unit?” “Yeah…” “I feel more at ease when she’s taking care of me. Can you raise it up with the head nurse or someone?” “Uh, that will be a bit tough…” he noticed Avery walking out of the room with her tray of equipment. “I’ll try and see what I can do.” Richard replied. “Thank you.” He hurried after the retreating figure and saw her at the end of the hallway. “Nurse Avery, can you wait a moment?” he called out. He walked up to where she had stopped and was staring down at her toes. “What’s wrong Avery?” he asked, “you don’t reply my messages, don’t pick my calls…” “Dr. Richard,” she started, “I’ve already told you that I will not respond to you until you’ve taken care of the issue with your wife first.” Richard suddenly felt angry. “I’ve told you…y’know what, forget it. Let’s meet up after work. I’ll be waiting for you at the pediatrics entrance.” “What? I…” but he had already started walking away. “I’ll see you then. Don’t keep me waiting.” “Dr. Richard…” but she could only watch his retreating back. Something in the tone of his voice made her decide it was not going to be a great idea to disappoint him. Unknown to them both, the head nurse stood a few feet away behind Avery, having observed their exchange. |
Once again my sincere apologies.

yungchap:Guy you better stick to the S. I use an A 52 and I regret buying that phone. |
xenten:Thanks man. For someone who has been in IT for more than 20 years, one would think I should know better than to NOT back up my files. I harp on everyone to do it all the time, yet I do not do it myself. The good thing is I was able to locate a tool which I'm currently using to recover the files from the corrupt drive. I'm at 50% so far. |
So the laptop I have all my files on unfortunately got corrupted. Second time this has happened to me. Technology these days is not as robust as it was ten years ago. I won't be able to do anything about it until Monday. Please bear with me. |
jullyrosy:I'll send something in today. |
jullyrosy:Weep not, dear jullyrosy. I was once again banned shortly after I responded to your comment for editing an earlier post. |
jullyrosy:Yeah, it was supposed to be part of the last update. It got deleted and I got banned(3rd time already for this ongoing story). That's why I reposted it using this format. |
Below is the concluding part of the last update that got deleted.

I got banned again . |
“A single’s gathering?” “More so, it is a gathering for some of the most exclusive and successful people in the city, those who recently divorced or just want to have a great time by meeting new people. It is also a gathering to help people relieve their boredom.” “I don’t follow-” “Richard,” Eliza took a sip from her glass, “you’re a recently divorced and successful man, so you do belong here.” “Why should I? I don’t find these kind of environments comfortable…” “What are the two of you chatting about?” one of the earlier voices walked up to them. “Why? Are you jealous?” Eliza asked. Ben glared at Richard. “Have we met before? Your face looks quite familiar, now that I think about it.” “Yup, you both know each other,” Eliza smiled as she toyed with the rim of her champagne. Both men stared at her. “Richard used to help me carry my stuff around in school.” “Oh, that guy,” Ben exclaimed, finally recalling, “You’re the little guy who helped her lug her stuff to the car that day.” Richard also remembered. He was one of the guys who drove flashy cars and wore expensive attire that trooped around Eliza back then. He remembered this particular one “tipping” him with some loose change one particular day. “If anyone told me back then you would turn out to be a doctor, I wouldn’t have believed them. I thought you were going to be a school teacher or something,” Ben said. They both stared at each other for several dark moments. Eliza watched them both closely. “Come to think of it, Eliza here always preferred men who were smart, compared to pigs-for-brains like me.” “What do you mean?” she asked. Ben turned to her. “Did you not dump me, a bodybuilder and athlete, for that skinny weasel who had an MBA?” “I told you that it was an arranged marriage by my parents.” “Who’s talking about marriage in a gathering like this?” the other doctor appeared. Slightly behind him was another beautiful young lady. Ben’s eyes immediately latched onto her. “And who might you be?” he asked and took her hand. “My name is Kimberly. I’m a banker and I recently got divorced from my husband, and the kind doctor here invited me to this gathering,” she giggled under the charm Ben exuded. “Divorced eh?” he said and kissed the back of her hand, “we’ll surely do a good job making you forget about that loser.” “Oh stop it…” she giggled. Richard watched on in disgust as the two men swooned over the blushing newbie. He finally tore his gaze away and looked around the room at others in different stages of conversation. “So do you now understand the goal of these types of gatherings?” Eliza watched him closely. Richard turned to her. "Tell me again." “Successful people who just regained their freedom from their boring marriages take these sort of outings to mingle and meet each other,” she continued, “and if the cards align right, probably hook up. Most of them just do it for the fling, but a number of them take it more serious. You could say it is a win-win situation. It does not lead to any scandals due to their single status, and everyone is free to do whatever they want.” “I don’t feel I belong to this kind of gathering.” Eliza cocked her head. “Why do you think so?” “First of all, everyone here seems to be quite opulent, wealthy, the who’s who. I don’t belong to such a crowd. I don’t think I can join them.” “Why do you need to join them?” she asked, “and why would I offer my beloved to all these sex-starved ladies here? I’m not crazy.” “Beloved?” “You keep refusing to meet me, so I had to make use of a gathering like this to ask you out,” she replied. “What are you talking about?” She placed her drink on the counter and took his hands in hers. Her eyes did not waver an inch as she leaned forward and looked deep into his. “Richard,” she said affectionately, her eyes boring deep into his. She slowly measured her words. “I love you, and I want to be with you.” |
“Where are we going?” Richard asked again as Eliza gunned the car expertly down the highway. “Just wait and see,” she responded. She fed the car more gas, and it responded smoothly to her touch. Richard watched the cars and scenery go by. After a while, she pulled off the highway and drove for a few more minutes until she pulled up at the entrance of an exquisite hotel. “Where are we?” he asked again. Eliza opened the door and handed the key over to the young valet who appeared out of nowhere. “Just follow me,” she smiled. Richard walked behind her as she led him through the beautiful lounge, up a flight of stairs, and into a large ballroom where a dozen other people were. The patrons here exuded opulence and class. There were a number of powerful faces he thought he recognized. Smartly dressed waiters walked around serving trays of champagne and hors d'oeuvres, while smooth jazz floated through the room. “Where is this Eliza?” Richard asked once again. Eliza smiled at him gently. “This is-” “Oh Eliza, is that you?” a baritone voice said. They both turned to see a tall and imposing guy in a smart dinner jacket walking over to them. “Ben…you’re here early,” Eliza replied. “Well, I didn’t have anything to do this evening,” he said as they exchanged polite kisses on the cheek. He turned to Richard. “So who is this?” he asked. “Oh, this is Richard. He was my friend in the university.” Ben reached out his hand for a handshake. “Pleased to meet you Richard. My name is Benjamin.” “Hello, I’m Richard.” “Oh, our widely regarded actress has arrived,” another male voice said. Eliza smiled, baring her beautiful white teeth. “Richard, let me introduce you to this fine gentleman. He’s a doctor like you.” “Hello, I’m Dr. James Dunn.” “Why is the owner of the biggest cosmetic surgery practice calling himself a mere doctor? You’re supposed to be called the boss.” Ben proffered. “C’mon Ben, I take the knife too once in a while.” “You look like you struck gold. I guess those wealthy housewives cannot have enough of their procedures, right?” “No matter how much I earn, it’s nothing compared what you make. Your company’s stock value skyrocketed recently.” “Hey, it’s not my company, it’s my dad’s.” “But you run it, don’t you? Don’t be so modest.” Ben turned to Richard. “You say you’re a doctor too right?” “Where do you practice?” asked Dr. Dunn. “I’m a thoracic surgeon at the general hospital.” “Ahh, right,” Dunn replied, clearly not impressed. He turned back to Ben. Eliza gently pulled Richard away from the two men and led him to the bar. “Eliza, you’ve not told me what sort of gathering this is,” he said. She reached for one of the glasses of champagne the bartender had placed before them. “This is a single’s gathering.” |
