And that's why rich guys rule the world, ladies and gents. As Tony Montana said, first you got to make the money. When you get the money you get the power. When you get the power, THEN you get the women. |
Alhamdullillah robil al ameen. May almighty Allah accept our month long ramadan as an act of ibadah. Ramadan Kareem to everyone. |
Hussein035:There is no need for the insults. When one chooses to be ignorant, there is no amount of enlightenment that will make them see otherwise. The funny thing about it all is these kind of people running their mouths can't even handle a single day of Ramadan, not to talk of the entire month. |
happney65:Maybe those you observe eat like gluttons, bit there is a limit to what one can eat after fasting. I don't blame you for your rants though. It's ones choice to be ignorant on certain topics. |
happney65:Why don't you try it for just one day without eating and drinking from morning till night time and come and tell us how easy it is. |
Don't we have medical examiner's offices in Nigeria? |
Smartguyboy:Then you hug her closer. Abi wetin dey do this dude? |
Okoroawusa:Let her ride you from the top. It'll be easier on your neck if those puppies dangle in your face. |
Kiddogarcia:What sting of criticism, if I may ask? If you're talking about the earlier dude, then I beg to differ. As I mentioned then, everyone has their right to their opinions and some might hate things others see as masterclass. My belief from your response is the way the main couple ended wasnt what you hoped for. I know others too believe the same. That's why I ended it with both twists in Avery and Athena. Each girl has a valid reason to have Richard by her side as well as keeping the readers guessing as to what next. Thanks for the patience and being a loyal reader. Yes, I have a couple of short stories in the bag. |
This concludes the story "Living with the ex-wife." My appreciation to all you folks who stuck with me over the course of this piece. |
“I need to sign out the lease forms today,” Richard informed her the following morning, “as well as pick up my remaining stuff.” “Sure. I have a girl’s out today too, so I guess we see in the evening?” “Yes.” He kissed her on her lips and headed out the door. “I’ll see you when you get back, alright?” It took him about forty-five minutes to get to the condo he once shared with his ex-wife. Athena was waiting for him. The movers had already packed the heavy things up and several boxes of personal belongings were now arranged neatly in the bare sitting room. Richard looked around the place he had spent the few years of his marriage and smiled willfully. “The movers did a really great job,” he said. “Yeah. It’s just like how it was when we first moved in.” “Most of the stuff will go to storage, so you don’t need to worry about anything.” “Yeah I know,” she replied. She looked at the man she had spent two years of her life with. “But you could have called me to help you pack some of the stuff.” “Which woman would want her boyfriend to be called by his ex-wife to do some packing?” “But I also have my stuff here…” “It doesn’t matter. It’s already done.” They looked at each other for a fleeting moment. “What about…that?” He followed her gaze and saw her staring at their wedding picture still hanging on the wall. “I don’t know…do you want to keep it?” “It reminds me of the good times we spent together…as well as the suffering you put me through.” “Then let’s get rid of it, if it will only remind you of sadness.” “It will go to storage as well. Richard, you’re a good man, but you really weren’t a good husband for me.” “I’m sorry you feel that way.” “I’m sure Avery will be a better match for you.” She stood up and headed down the hallway. “Honey?” She stopped halfway. It took a brief moment for him to respond. “Yes…baby?” “I’m going to take a shower.” She said suggestively. She started moving to her room again. “O…kay?” Did she give a hint? He wasn’t sure. ----------------------------------- Athena stood under the shower, the steam fogging up the bathroom into a thick mist, rivulets of hot water cascading over the voluptuous curves of her body. She stared at the tiled floor and waited…and waited….and waited... --------------------------------------- “Are you already leaving?” she asked him afterwards. “Y-yes,” he replied as he swallowed the lump that had formed in his throat. She had slipped into one of her very casual and revealing camisoles and matching shorts, one of those he loved. He didn’t want to be tempted while he had his girlfriend at home. “Awnn…I thought you would stay for dinner at least,” she pouted. “Oh, thanks for the offer…but I think I need to go.” She saw he was unsuccessfully trying to hide the bulge that had grown in his shorts and was secretly pleased she still had that effect on him. “I’ll be leaving then…” he said. After a brief moment of hesitation, he pulled her into his arms and gave her a hug. This was going to be the last time he would feel that voluptuous body in his arms. “Please take care of yourself, will you?” Athena smiled. “I will.” She followed him closely as he walked to the door. Her hand gently touched her belly. Don’t worry, she thought, he’ll be back. She watched as he slowly opened the door. “Hey honey…” “Yes?” Richard turned back to her again. “What do you say we…” She arched her back and pushed her chest forward, her breasts almost bursting out of her camisole, a move only she knew how to do and how much it drove him crazy. Her eyes glazed over and she stared at him seductively. His gaze followed the movement ov her body and she knew he was hooked. “What do we say we…have some hot, passionate sex one last time...for the good times we had together as husband and wife?” --------------------------- THE END. |
“It’s almost eight-thirty,” Avery exclaimed as they got off the train, “I don’t think there’s enough time to cook when we get home.” “Yeah…maybe we should get some takeout.” Richard suggested. “Yeah that’s a great idea…but I need to stop at a supermarket to get some…err, feminine products.” “I thought you got some before we moved in.” “Nah, with all the packing and stuff, I had to dispose of the ones I had…new place, new things right?” “Yeah…I also need a new razor…” “Some toothpaste and tissue…” “Mouthwash, floss…” “...and…err…c-condoms?” Richard looked at her. “Condoms?” “Yes…we no longer have any.” “Have we already blown through a whole pack already?” “Yes…the last time we had sex, we did it raw, remember?” “Oh my…I guess we should get an entire carton then.” Avery frowned. “What are you, a jackrabbit? Why would you want to get a whole carton of condoms? How many times do you want to have sex in a week?” “Safety first, you used to tell me…and at the rate we go, we would exhaust our supply.” They entered the supermarket a block away from their new apartment. “In any case, let’s get the essential things first. We can then come back to your carton of condoms, aight?” -------------------------------------------- “Wow, this our apartment is way too hot,” Avery remarked as they strode in. Richard turned the thermostat on the wall. “It’s summertime for one…and I think I forgot to switch it back on this morning after you complained about being cold last night.” “Let me put our purchases away…” Avery replied. She pulled a stool closer and standing on it, reached up to push a box of tissue ontop of the fridge. “Aiyah!!!” she exclaimed as she felt Richard cup her breasts from behind, “what are you doing?” “We purchased a pack of flavored condoms…there’s no harm in us having a taste, right?” She tried to squirm out of his grip. “At least let’s have dinner and freshen up first!” “I’m not hungry…the only thing I’m hungry for right now is this luscious body of yours.” “B-but we have sex almost every other day,” Avery moaned. His gentle caresses had begun to turn her on. “I just can’t have enough of you babe…” he kissed her on the hollow of her neck, making her moan again. Her body didn’t obey the commands of her brain as she felt him lift her effortlessly and carry her across to their bedroom. Later on, as she lay nakked beside him, her relaxed body gently slipping below the surface, she thought about what she had wanted to tell him tonight. Her plan was to let him know over dinner. Those plans had now gone out of the window. She was finding it hard to keep her eyes open as delicious sleep began to take over her senses. Her hand gently caressed her belly below the duvet. Today’s Friday. She has the whole weekend to tell him. It can wait. |
Infolenka:This girl is quite pretty IMO. |

“Haven’t I told you that you must always investigate the sources of your story thoroughly before you decide to report on it? You are a professional, y’know?” “I’m sorry…” “If you have no credible sources, then it’s all hearsay and not worth the time to air it. We don’t report news based on gossip and second-hand information. Viewers would quickly figure things out and that will only tarnish our reputation in the media.” “I’m sorry, it won’t happen again-” “Whatever! Just go back to work and don’t let it happen again.” Athena turned back to her computer and dismissed her without another word. The girl tried to control her anger. “Dios, esta perra arrogante es tan molesta(Gosh, this arrogant bitch is so annoying)!!” she mumbled under her breath as she turned away and headed out the cubicle. She almost ran into Weatherman, who wondered quietly for a moment what was wrong. He shrugged his shoulders and dismissed her from his thoughts. “Ms. Athena,” he greeted. “Hello Mr. Weatherman. What can I do for you today?” “I just want to discuss something with you.” “As you can see, I’m quite busy and in the middle of something-” “I won’t take much of your time,” he continued. He pulled a seat closer and sat down. “I want to discuss a new variety talk show I’ve been thinking about.” Athena exhaled impatiently. “I believe I’ve already told you my impression about that. I have no interest in variety shows.” “But what if the show discusses current events? And if you don’t like that, what about children shows?” “Are you serious right now?” “Oh, right…there’s no need for that,” he smiled in embarrassment. He slid closer to her. “Athena, would you like to go for dinner with me tonight?” Athena stared at him for a long moment. Her dark demeanor did not seem to perturb him. Why not? It had been a while since she had a fancy dinner and company since Richard finally moved out. Her mood changed and she gave him a little smile. “Sure, dinner will be nice. Where are you taking me?” |
***Several weeks later*** Avery rushed down the hallway, a stack of patient files in her hand. In her haste that morning, she had forgotten to take them along with her when doing their usual morning rounds. In order to catch up with the others, she quickly went to grab them from the nurses’ station and hurried back to the wards. She rounded the corner and before she could do anything, ran smack into the head nurse who was making her way back from one of the surgical wards. “I’m so sorry!!!” Avery apologized profusely after overcoming her shock. She had almost knocked the older head nurse off her feet. “When are you going to stop rushing around all the time, you this young lady?” the head nurse scolded her with a frown, looking down at her as she retrieved the now scattered documents all over the hallway. “I’m sorry, I was in a rush to meet up…” “Remember, you’re in a hospital. I can’t have one of my nurses being all clumsy and running around like a headless chicken.” “I’m sorry. I’ll be careful next time.” “By the way,” the head nurse continued, “your patient came over and paid her bill.” “M-my patient?” “The one you discharged without payment the other day…the one you vouched for? She came in this morning to settle what she owed. She left something for you as well. I have it on my desk and when you have the time, you can come get it.” “Oh…thanks ma’am.” “Just be careful…you should not guarantee anything for people you don’t know, even if it comes from your heart…or trying to take the fall for a married man…” She winked at Avery suggestively. “You have to start thinking more for yourself than others,” she remarked, reaching out and patting Avery’s protruding behind. They looked up and saw Richard walking towards them. “Speaking of the devil,” the head nurse said under her breath. Avery smiled at her snide comment. “Hello Chief nurse. Hi nurse Avery.” “Good day Dr. Richard.” Richard turned to Avery. “Would you like to go out for dinner this evening after work? I just found a nice restaurant I know you would adore.” “S-sure. After work?” “Wow…just look at the two of you,” the head nurse exclaimed, her arms folded on her chest, “you’re now both being all so lovey-dovey in the hospital too. One who can’t let go of his ex-wife, the other blindly trusting everything he says. I’m really worried you might break her heart, y’know?” “Don’t worry about that…Avery is quite a strong girl. And I’m done with my ex-wife and I can assure you I will never break Avery’s heart.” “Hmmm, showcasing your new girlfriend, I see…” |
“Just…take it as my farewell gift to you,” Eliza said over the phone. “How…how did you get your hands on this?” Richard demanded. Athena sat opposite him on the other side of the table as they listened. “It’s…*gasp*…kinda hard to explain,” Eliza’s voice trembled slightly, “b-but if,*sigh*, it was to go public, it would, *hnngh* b-be bad for your wife.” Richard and Athena glanced at each other knowingly. “A-anyways, d-d-don’t think too much about it,” Eliza continued, her voice becoming more strained, “j-just accept it as m-my parting gift t-to you.” A rhythmic slapping began over the phone, followed by some muffled moans. “I-I’m really grateful for e-everything that happened R-Richard…hnngh!!! T-take care of your wife okay?!!” The call was abruptly ended. Richard stared across the table to Athena. “What the hell was that?” she demanded. ---------------------------------- “You’ve really been busy enjoying yourself,” Athena said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “How have I been enjoying myself?” Her eyes were dark and foreboding. “I can’t believe your nurse Abigail wasn’t the only bitch you were screwing around with.” “No Athena…this was even before I met Avery-” “Whatever dude!” she spat. “While your ex-wife was getting psychiatric help, all you could think of was getting laid?” “That’s not-” “Anyways, thanks to Eleanor-what's-her-name, it seems my earlier fears have been taken care of.” “Yeah…and we can finally go back to our previous lives…” She regaled him with another cold and dark stare. “Previous lives? How far back do you want to go?” He could detect the clear disappointment from her voice. She stood up without another word and headed to her room. “Oh, by the way, I called the real-estate agent,” she paused. “Real estate agent? What real estate agent?” “The one we rented this condo from. I told him we were moving out. He was kind enough to give us a month’s notice.” |
“Ah!!! Oww!!!” “Stop yelling like a baby! I’m trying to get all the shards out!” Avery scolded him. “But it hurts!!” “That’s what happens when you injure yourself,” she replied as she used the surgical tweezers to carefully pulled out the glass. “I got hurt a lot in nursing school and once told myself I would get myself a doctor boyfriend,” she smiled, “but here I am taking care of said boyfriend instead.” She dabbed his injured hand with a disinfectant-soaked cotton ball and wrapped the affected appendage with gauze and a bandage. “All done.” She remarked and sat back. Richard inspected his hand. “Nice work…I believe you have the skills to work in the operating room from now on.” “With your hand all bandaged up, you won’t be able to perform any surgeries for a while. I’m really sorry.” Richard grabbed her arms and shook her gently. “Stop apologizing already! The pain you’ve felt is way more than any minor injuries I have.” “Alright...stop shaking me!” Avery protested. “You don’t need to feel bad anymore. Everything will and has come to pass, just like you predicted, right?” She avoided his gaze. “Yes…” He lifted her chin and forced her to stare into his eyes. “So don’t ever contemplate on committing suicide again.” “I won’t. I promise.” “I’m really stupid for believing you were fine when you clearly weren’t,” he continued, “please be honest with me about your feelings from now on, whether sadness, pain, or discomfort. That way, even someone as dumb as me can understand.” He took her hands in his. “I don’t want this happening again. Promise me.” “I promise,” she replied. She took his uninjured hand and placed it over the smooth skin of her breast where her heart beat steadily beneath, “no matter how I feel…sad, hurt, upset…I will make sure I tell you.” “Thanks baby.” He gave her a kiss on her lips, which slowly deepened as he wrapped his arms around her in an embrace. The moment was broken by the shrill blare of his phone. Both of them stared at it. The caller-ID “Sweet♥” flashed back at them. “It’s your wife,” Avery said. “Yes…” “Pick it up.” “B-but-” “She must also be in a lot of pain right now.” “Avery…” “It’s okay…I honestly think you should pick up.” Richard stared at her; Athena stared back with a reassuring smile. “Okay.” He picked the call and put it on speaker. “Hello Athena.” “Where the hell are you Richard?! Someone just came to the house and gave me some very sensitive information!” He looked back at Avery. “What information?” “My medical file, from that quack’s office!” “Wait, what? Who gave it to you?” “I don’t know him!! He just told me to ask you who Eliza is.” He felt his heart lurch. “E-Eliza?” “Yes Richard. Eliza. Who is this Eliza, and how the hell did she get a hold of my file?” |
He searched for his phone; he must have dropped it somewhere in his haste. A whimper-like sob made him freeze; was he hearing things, or was it just his mind or the eeriness of the darkness? He heard it again, this time coming from the body lying in front of him. He quickly leaned forward again. In his grief at seeing her there on the floor, he had forgotten the first basic thing – check for signs of life. He pressed his fingers to her neck and detected a pulse. “Avery!” he cried. He shook her, “Avery…please wake up.” With a slight whimper, Avery slowly opened her eyes and turned her tear-stained face to him. Her eyes adjusted to the darkness to see him peering down at her. “Avery!” “I’m sorry Dr. Richard,” she began to sob, “I…I couldn’t take it anymore…” “Avery…” his voice cracked again. He pulled her up and wrapped his arms around her. The tears flowed anew, this time in relief. “I really wanted to come to work today…but I couldn’t bring myself to get up,” she continued to sob into his shoulder, “my heart hurt intensely and I couldn’t breathe…I thought if I ended it all everything would go back to normal…but I couldn’t bring myself to do it…I’m so sorry Dr. Richard…it’s all my fault this is happening…” They held each other tight and let their emotions run their course. They finally calmed down enough to be able to talk. “Thank you Avery…thank you. I don’t know what I would have done if you had killed yourself,” he said, “I’m so sorry.” “It’s all my fault-” “No, it’s my fault you were labeled a bad nurse for having an affair with a married doctor. If I had come out from the start to say I was divorced, all this wouldn’t have happened to you.” “But your father-in-” He caressed her tear-stained cheeks. “He told me he had already known for a while. Everything has been taken care of.” “He knew? H-how?” “My ex-wife…she revealed everything on a talk show earlier today…everyone now knows I’m divorced. The ethics committee did not hold the meeting. They said we did not do anything wrong.” Avery sighed and touched his hand against her cheek. She felt a slight prick in her palm; at the same time Richard flinched, and only then did she notice the several gashes and vast amount of blood pouring from the back of his hand. |
