The Abia State Police command has denied allegation that it arrested two members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) during the burial of Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and his wife, parents of Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB leader.

The Commissioner of Police in Abia, CP E. Ene Okon said there is no truth in such, maintaining that there was no indication that the two people arrested in Umuahia during the burial last week were members of IPOB.

The commissioner alleged that the two people arrested by the command were armed with pistol and other dangerous weapons.

In an interview with ABN TV on Monday, He said “The police only arrested two persons and it was not even near Afara, it was down there, those two persons were seen with guns, weapon two of them with pistol and everything, and they did not wear anycloth like IPOB,no nothing, nothing to show of IPOB and Emmanuel Kanu said yes he heard that, those are not IPOB members.

"So in essence police did not arrest anybody IPOB, because there through-out we did not know who was IPOB, No body wore IPOB uniform, No body carry BIAFRA flag, no body carry IPOB signal, all that we know they were mourners and we were just standing. What ever they were doing their thing, police were there full and they were doing their thing, we never touched anybody, although some of them were dancing some were taking Indian herm, all these small, small boys, police was just laughing because the police did not want to do anything that will truncate the peace that we maintained. We did not arrest any IPOB member"

A former member of the Nigeria senate, Sen. Victor Umeh has expressed gratitude to the President, Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of Nigeria Army for allowing the burial ceremony of Nnamdi Kanu's parents, His Royal Majesty Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and his wife, ABN TV reports.

Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is on the wanted list of Nigeria's government for jumping bail on terrorism-related charges.

He was absent during the burial ceremony which took place on Friday, February 14, 2020.

Umeh said, “I have been here, and I can say, I’m happy. Because the atmosphere here is peaceful. There is nothing here to indicate that anybody wants to disrupt the burial rites of our late traditional ruler, Eze Israel Kanu.

“Burial is a solemn thing, and the federal government has done well allowing us to bury our brother and his wife. That is the way it should be because death awaits everybody. I read about the altercation between Nigeria police and the leadership of IPOB on social media and newspapers, but it didn’t stop us from attending this burial.

The traditional ruler of Nibo, Anambra state, HRH, Eze Oploka has described leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu as a man of reputable character pulling weight all over the world, ABN TV reports.

He also described him as a man of truth and intelligent, adding that he is a hero in the whole world.

The traditional ruler said this while speaking with newsmen at the just concluded burial ceremony of HRH, Israel Okwu Kanu and his wife, Ugoeze Meme Sally, the late parents of Nnamdi Kanu.

He stated that the late Monarch was a family man who gave birth to children with reputable character.

“His Royal Majesty, Kanu, was a man of reputable character. There was peace in the town during his tenure of ruling. That is why everything is moving smoothly, as you can see for yourself.

“He gave birth to children of reputable character, like Nnamdi Kanu we are all talking about. He is a hero in the whole world.

“Now, he is speaking seriously about Biafra, which we all know has been in existence for over 50 years. Now, it’s surfacing. What God has built, no hand cam destroy it.”

Eze Oploka noted that the struggle for the actualisation of Biafra claimed the life of the departed king.

The Management of The Sun Publishing Limited, owners and Publishers of the Sun Newspapers has Officially apologized to the Speaker of the Abia state House of Assembly Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji over alleged libel in 2014.

The Sun Newspaper's apology to the Speaker is contained in the front page of its Friday 14th February 2020 edition with the bold caption 'our error'.

The Sun Newspaper in its page 21 of the March 10, 2014 edition had said ‘it is not a secret affair as his terrorist activities in the state are fully documented’.

Six Years after, the News Paper has admitted its error and tendered an Open Apology on their FrontPage.

The Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has urged those attending the burial of the traditional ruler of Afaraukwu Community in Umuahia North Local Government Area and the father of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and his wife on February 14 to conduct themselves in orderly manner.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. A.C.B Agbazuere, made available to ABN TV.

The governor while commiserating with the family of the late traditional ruler appealed those attending the burial to show respect to HRH Eze Sir Isreal O. Kanu and Ugoeze Sally Kanu to maintain the prevailing peace in the state.

Jewish worshippers

A combined team of Nigerian soldiers and police have allegedly abducted Jewish worshippers at Isiala-Ngwa Junction who were on their way to attend the burial ceremony of the parents of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and his wife.

This is according to a post by Nnamdi Kanu on his verified Facebook page on Thursday.

He said, "Information reaching me now is that two buses conveying Jewish worshippers on their way to my hometown Isiama-Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia Abia State for the funeral of my parents have been abducted at Isiala-Ngwa Junction by a combined team of Nigerian soldiers and police. They are currently being detained in their barracks".

The Abia State Police command had earlier in the day accused Nnamdi Kanu of importing strangers into Afara community to truncate the peace and stability currently enjoyed by the people.

The Force warned that any attempt to cause fear and panic in the People's mind will be resisted.

We can't watch you break the law, Police warn IPOB, vow to remain in Afaraukwu

The Nigeria Police has finally explained why there is heavy presence of security officers around Afaraukwu, home of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu in preparation for the burial of his parents, His Royal Majesty Eze and Ugoeze I.O. Kanu.

The Force also warned that those intending to hijack the burial process especially members of IPOB in solidarity to their leader will have it to contend with.

In a release signed by the PPRO Abia command, Ogbonna Geoffrey and made available to ABN TV on Tuesday, the planned hijack negates the principle of peace loving and Christian nature of the deceased in according them befitting burial as respected traditional leader and knights of the Christendom.

He also alleged that this has caused tension among indigenes and residents in Afaraukwu, Umuahia whom he said have started leaving the community.

"The presence of security officials in and around the Community should not be seen as the threat but a proactive measure to prevent the infiltration of miscreants and hoodlums into the community to actualize their intentions of truncating the burial process and peace hither-to enjoyed by the peace loving people of Afara Community and Abia State at large.

"More so,the commissioner of Police enjoins the public to disregard the rumours making rounds that he wants to scuttle the burial process whereas he has the good intention of providing security to lives and property of the people" he added.

Okon Aku community

A leader in Okon Aku community in Ohafia local government area of Abia state, Chief Ndukwe Iko has frowned at the activities of native doctors in the community whom he accused of aiding ‘Yahoo Plus’, a practice of providing support to internet fraudsters, ABN TV reports.

Mr. Iko who made the revelation in a chat with ABN TV on Sunday stated that the people of Okon Aku are proficient in herbal medicine practice but noted that some native doctors in the area have gone beyond providing medical solutions to aiding crimes.

Describing trado medical practice as their heritage, he emphasized that over 50 percent of the people in the community are herbal practitioners.

“Recently we started having some negative practice here. Like every emerging community where development comes in, there are negative tendencies. Some people started doing some wrong practices which is one of the challenges we are facing. Ritual killing and what they call yahoo plus is now rampant in addition to what they do as traditional medicine practitioners.

A popular MC in Owerri, the Imo state capital Duruji Ogechi has decried the activities of the people he called cartel in Imo entertainment industry.

Ogechi popularly called MC Duke expressed displeasure that a cartel has taken over the industry in the state without allowing those who do not belong to their clique to excel optimally.

In a chat with ABN TV, MC Duke, a host, and father of two said those who do not belong to the cartel do not receive invites for shows in the state.

The comedian said a recent online vote indicated that he came first among nominees who contested the opinion poll with him.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ilorin Zonal Office has arrested a 38-year-old man, Festus Akinyemi Abiona who was indicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigations, FBI over his alleged involvement in internet fraud.

Abiona had been on the wanted list of the Commission for more than eight months over the alleged fraud case, before luck ran out on him and he was finally arrested in his hideout.

Operatives of the EFCC smoked him out of his hiding on February 6, 2020 from his beautifully built duplex in Arepo, Ogun State. He had gone into hiding and deliberately refused to step out of his house, when he got wind of the fact that the EFCC was investigating him. For the past five months, he was in hiding for fear of being arrested.

In the FBI petition dated 10th of July 2019, it was alleged that he was involved in Business Email Compromise, BEC, and other internet-related fraud.

The petition stated further: “In May 2016, the FBI received information that an actor or actors bypassed online security to steal money from retirement accounts held by an insurance company for Public Workers in the United States, which resulted in the loss of approximately $2,500, 000.

“The accounts contained numerous communications between Abiona and other criminal co-conspirators seeking to commit business email compromise (BEC), Tax Refund Fraud, and other Computer enabled fraud”.

The Speaker Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji has emphasised that he is not nursing any governorship ambition in the year 2023.

He stated this in Umuahia while interacting with newsmen.

According to him, the rumour was started by those who see him as an enemy.

He declared that it is morally wrong for him to aspire to become governor of this state for now, adding that his father in 2015 vacated office as the number one person in the state.

"That propaganda was started by those that view me as their enemy. It was started by those that feel that I am a stumbling block to their peace and happiness of becoming governor without actually working for it.

"As far as I am concerned, I didn’t want to answer this question but since you have asked it, let me summarise by telling you that it is morally wrong for me to aspire to become governor of this state for now. Why do I say that? My dear father left office in 2015 as governor. In 2023, it would have been eight years since he left office.

"The question I want to ask these propagandists is this, is there no other qualified Abian that I should become governor? If they know how my father plays politics, they will not waste their time propagating falsehood. To me, it can be summed up very simply that Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji whether Speaker or not, that it is morally wrong for me to aspire to be governor of Abia in 2023 or even 2027 or whatever- for the simple reason that my father, the immediate past governor just left office. We have not reached the level of the American mentality in politics. If I want to contest election, the signs would be on ground and not mere insinuations.

"My simple advice to those that are afraid of Chinedum Orji with respect to the issue of Speakership, is that they should hit the ground running, that they should go to the field, channel the resources they are wasting on this propaganda on the youths, women and critical stakeholders on the need to elect them. They should stop this their fear of the unknown. I am not their problem. They are their own problem because they have started badly by using propaganda instead of empowerment" he said.

Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered for the arrest of Emeh James Anyalekwa, publisher of Igbere TV News and National President, Online Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (OMPAN).

The order followed a publication by Nigerian Concord, claiming the court had concluded plans to jail at all cost, a former Benue governor Gabriel Suswam, who is standing trial over alleged N3.1 billion fraud.

The newspaper had alleged on February 1 that Justice Abang, who is presently presiding over the trial of Suswam, had prior contact with the prosecution team and some All Progressives Congress (APC) officials in respect to the case.

Igbere TV had republished the story on its website the following day February 2, while also giving full credits to the online platform (Nigerian Concord) on whose website the story first appeared on.

Checks by this online medium shows that the 'controversial publication' was widely republished by several news platforms between the 1st and 3rd February, aside Igbere TV News.

But appearing in Court on Wednesday, Justice Abang ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to apprehend the Igbere TV boss.

He gave the agencies 21 days (from today) to jointly carry out "proper findings" into the publication, submit their report and produce Mr. Anyalekwa in court.

Contacted, spokesman for Igbere TV said the publication was sourced from the website of a "credible national daily" which he said was duly acknowledged.

“The report did not originate on Igbere TV but was first published by Nigerian Concord which we duly credited. Nigerian Concord is a credible National Newspaper,” he said.

“We pulled down the report when we later discovered that the original source (Nigerian Concord), had deleted it from their website,” the Igbere TV spokesman added.

No fewer than two persons were killed, while 10 others declared missing on Monday at Isu community in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State over a boundary clash with their Utuma neighbours in Biase Local Government Area and Ukwa Odukpani LGA of Cross River State.

For some years now, the Isu clan have been locked in a bloody land dispute with their Utuma neighbours in Cross River State.

Sources said gunmen invaded the Isu community about 8a.m. and shot dead two people and fled.

President General of Isu community, Elder Felix Okoro, said gunmen had laid siege to Isu land where they killed two natives while about 10 persons were missing.

Okoro disclosed that the hoodlum came from the disputed area at Iheosu-Isu to attack the natives who had been taking refuge at a location in the community.
He said: “The hoodlums invaded Isu clan this morning (yesterday) and shot dead two persons. We have been suffering attacks from our Utuma neighbours.

“This conflict started when limestone was discovered in Isu community and the Utuma have been laying claim to it, killing Isu people. Over 100 houses have been burnt and 60 persons killed with three villages sacked.

“For about two years now, the people of Iheosu-Isu and other villages have fled from the land because they were being killed and their houses burnt. They have become internally displaced persons (IDPs) in their land.

“The IDPs are now quartered at Ohabuike Primary School, Obieze-Isu. We are calling on the Federal and state government to protect Isu people before they kill all of us.

“We have a state of emergency at hand with the over 3,500 IDPs at the primary school. Isu people are grateful to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Abia State government for sending relief materials.

“It costs the community N2 million monthly to buy food, clothing and drugs for them. The IDPs cannot farm because their lands have been taken over and their houses burnt. Any Isu man who goes to the Iheosu-Isu is killed.

“Isu people are worried about the situation. We are being slaughtered like chicken. The Deputy Governors of Abia and Cross Rivers States have visited Isu and Utuma and appealed for peace, yet our Utuma and Ukwa neighbours won’t allow us to live in peace.

“We no longer go to the disputed area which is our land, but they have continued to attack us.”

Okoro urged the National Boundary Commission (NBC) as well as the Abia and Cross River State governments to urgently make further efforts to protect lives and property.

The Abia State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ene Okon, said the area was now calm.

A human right lawyer, Barr. Monday Ubani has urged the National Assembly to immediately throw out the Hate Speech and Fake News Bill Now currently before it, saying passing such Bill will further dent the image of the government.

Barr. Ubani a former Vice Chairman on NBA spoke at the background of a townhall meeting held in Abuja on hate speech by Daar Communications PLC, which had in attendance the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan and other lawmakers.

He took a swipe at the sponsor of the Bill, Sabi Abdullahi for allegedly lying that hate speech Bill has caused many deaths in the country, pointing out that records from global organizations prove otherwise.

"The Sponsors of the two bills that have their objective of curtailing freedom of speech in Nigeria were given time to advance reasons for those bills at this time as a Nation. I must tell you the truth, I was totally disappointed.

"They were pedestrian in their presentation and evidenced their veiled intention to discourage Nigerians from querying the present government through social media.

"Not only were they giving wrong reasons for the bills, they also lied that many lives have been lost in Nigeria due the so called Hate Speech and Fake News in Nigeria.

Statistics of death which occurred for some years caused by criminals in NIGERIA were released recently by one of the international bodies. The main cause of those deaths as shown in the report were attributed to Herdsmen and Boko Haram insurgents over the years. At no time was the cause of death attributed to the so called hate speech or fake news carriers in NIGERIA" he said.

While alleging that the Bill is targeted at curtailing press freedom and shield the government from criticism, Barr. Ubani revealed that there are sufficient laws in the country to take care of any infraction of our laws in the social media.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) worldwide has taken a swipe at the the Senator representing Abia South, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe for calling for President Buhari’s resignation over insecurity in Nigeria, saying Buhari alone is not to be held responsible over the spate of insecurity in the country.

OYC in a statement signed by the President General Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and the Secretary General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike made available to ABN TV, expressed surprise that Sen. Abaribe whom they said only empowered his constituents l in 2015 with few free ambulance vehicles for those that died out of hunger and frustration and lotto bet for the youths could be the one to make such call.

The group also applauded South East governors for moves to establish regional security outfit, saying it will check incessant killing, kidnapping, raping and other nefarious activities of bandits in the region.
