Health / See 7 Unknown Habits That Can Damage Your Kidneys (most Guys Are Guilty Of No5) by mhaxiloaded(m): 8:06pm On Sep 27, 2017
Healthy kidneys are essential to a healthy body; they filter waste from your blood and allow you to expel it from your body in the form of urine. They regulate the minerals in your body and produce hormones which keep bloodpressure down and help to produce red blood cells. However, there are regular habits that can cause damage to kidneys, so it’s important to be aware of how to maintain good kidney health. Here are the 11 habits to keep in mind:

1) Abusing painkillers:Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may alleviate your aches and pains, but they can harm the kidneys. They are safe in moderation, but regular overuse can result in kidney damage and total kidney failure.

2) Too much salt:Regularly eating too much salt can cause huge damage to your kidneys as well as other health problems. The kidneys metabolize 95 percent of the sodium consumed through food. When salt intake is high, the kidneys need to work harder to excrete the excesssalt. This in turn can lead to decreased kidney functioning, causing water retention in the body. Water retention can cause a hike in blood pressure and increase the risk of developing kidney disease.

3) Eating too much meat:The Kidney Foundation explains that protein derived from meat creates a lot of acid in the blood which can cause acidosis, a condition in which your kidneys can’t get rid of the acid fast enough. Protein is important for a healthy diet but must be balanced out with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.

4) Not drinking enough water:The main function of the kidneys is to flush out metabolic waste from the body and regulate erythrocyte production. When the body lacks sufficient water, this hampers the kidneys’ ability to eliminate toxins from the body. When you’re dehydrated your blood becomes more concentrated, and less flows through your kidneys.

5) Too much alcohol:The toxins found in alcohol not only damage the liver, but also your kidneys. If your kidneys are healthy then it’s okay to drink in moderation but drinking more than four a day has been shown to double your risk of kidney disease.

6) Smoking:Smoking worsens blood pressure and Type 2 Diabetes (the two major causes of kidney disease), and slows blood flow to the kidneys.People who smoke are more likely to have protein in the urine – a sign of kidney damage.

7) Sitting Still:Sitting for long periods of time has now been linked to the development of kidney disease. It is known that greater physical activity is associated with improved blood pressure and glucose metabolism, both important factors in kidney health.

Sports / Mourinho Wants Man United To Stay Grounded by mhaxiloaded(m): 5:59pm On Sep 26, 2017
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has encouraged his players to remain “humble” as they look to take control of Champions League Group A by beating CSKA Moscow on Wednesday.United are level on points with leaders Manchester City in the Premier League after winning five and drawing one of their first six games and some of their football has been dazzling. They beat Basel 3-0 in their Champions League opener, but Mourinho criticised his players for playing “PlayStation football”in the game’s latter stages and he warned the wheels could quickly come off if they lose focus.“We cannot guarantee this line of success, but the way to try to keep it is to do what we are doing,” said Mourinho, whose side won 1-0 at Southampton in their most recent game on Saturday.“We try to play well and in some moments of the match, if the opponent has moments of superiority, we have to be humble— like we were against Southampton — and cope with the difficult moments of the game.“In the second half we had to be humble. We had to accept thatthe opponent was in a high and we had to fight hard.“So it’s a mixture of our quality — being dominant like we always want to be — but accepting the reality of high-level football. When the opponent has a strong moment, you have to cope with it.”In-form attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan said Mourinho’swords after the Basel game had made United’s players doubly determined not to let their levels drop even once games are in the bag.“Of course everyone knows that Jose Mourinho is very demanding and what he said, he’s right,” the Armenian told United’s pre-match press conference at CSKA’s VEB Arena onTuesday.“He didn’t say exactly names, but everyone thinks that they’ve done something bad or done some mistakes.“But we’re trying to improve that aspect and play more focusedduring the whole game and not start doing some fantasy football, as he said, or playing some PlayStation in the last 20 to 25 minutes.”

Politics / Ambode’s Achievements Confirm Accountants Can Add Value To Governance – ICAN Pre by mhaxiloaded(m): 4:51pm On Sep 26, 2017
…As Gov Pledges Partnership With Institute To Boost InformalSectorPresident of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Alhaji Ismaila Zakari on Tuesday lauded the various initiatives and programmes of the Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, saying it confirms that chartered accountants can add value to governance in Nigeria, describing the Governor as a worthy ambassador of the InstituteThe world class Ikeja Bus Terminal in Lagos State capitalSpeaking at Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja when he led former past presidents and other members of the Institute on a courtesy visit to the Governor, Zakari said the remarkable achievements of the Governor in office so far were worthy of emulation by other leaders. He recalled that despite the economic challenges in the country in2016, Lagos State, under Governor Ambode, raked in N287billion as internally generated revenue, a figure ranked among the best the State ever generated, while the Governor also fulfilled his major electioneering campaign by implementing the N25billion Employment Trust Fund (ETF), which he said had immensely scaled up entrepreneurship and reduced unemployment. While noting the reconstruction of 114 inner roads across the 57Local Government Councils in the State, Zakari also commendedthe Light Up Lagos project and the Agric initiative aimed at encouraging local production of rice, saying that the remarkable initiative had greatly reduced rice importation and enhanced foreign exchange of the country. The ICAN President said: “These momentous achievements are testimonies not only to Governor Ambode’s enviable track recordof service to the good people of Lagos State, but they are also indelible evidence of the value that chartered accountants can addto governance. We are truly proud of your achievements in office and therefore warmly commend and hold you out as a worthy ambassador of the accounting profession from whom others in governance should take a cue.”While seeking the incorporation of accountants under the ICAN technician scheme into the N25billion ETF, Zakari also invited Governor Ambode to deliver a lead paper on the theme: “YoungProfessionals: Emerging Leaders of Change and Nation Building,” at the 47th edition of the annual Accountant Conference.Responding, Governor Ambode thanked the Institute for the skillsets inculcated in him 30 years ago when he became a professional accountant, saying that those skills were very relevant and still useful in administering the State. He said: “Yes, there are leaders that come and go at different times, but the wish of God that an ICAN member should be atthe helm of affairs of Lagos State at a time when it is so problematic, at a time when revenue is going down and at a time we want to protect our people from unimaginable taxation, but again the skill sets to be able to put all these resources together for the benefit of humanity is encouraging.“I just want to encourage ICAN that whatever are the ideals and principles of the body are not in vain. The products are here for people to see and this is what we want to recommendto other people and other professionals that ICAN has come a long way and ICAN has proven also that the leadership of thiscountry is actually in the hands of those who have the public finance expertise to lead this country ahead which we have proven by what we have done in the last two and half years. There is no miracle in what we are doing, the fact is that it isabout our skills and the knowledge that the Institute has impacted in all of us for which we are proud of.”Besides, the Governor acknowledged that though his administration was implementing the N25billion ETF, he would nonetheless collaborate with ICAN to boost the informal sector especially in areas of entrepreneurship, skills and capital.According to him, “There are too many people that are unemployed and there are too many people that are creative andinnovative but again they don’t have that support or the capital to do the things they ought to do and so if we have collaborators like ICAN, we will also put some money there because it is about Lagosians, it is about employment and it is about growth and development,” Governor Ambode said.He also pledged to uphold and scale up the partnership that hadalways existed between the State Government and ICAN.

Romance / Some Relationships Work Better When Couples Live Apart by mhaxiloaded(m): 5:58pm On Sep 24, 2017
They all had dreams of the stereo-typed relationships – meet a prospective partner, get married, have desired children and live happily ever-after. But realityis far from all that. When I got married,’ said Lisa, a medical doctor, “I did because I was pregnant. Both of us were in medical school and my family wouldn’t approve of me getting married out of wedlock.love“Marriage is for life,” preached my prim mother, “and no childhas a right to be born a bastard if both parents could help it.”“So we got married and married life was not what I expected it to be. My new husband was always studying and it was soon obvious we got married out of necessity than love. We eventually qualifiedand went on to have two more children.I was lucky to have a cossy apartment that went with my job whilst my husband stayed on at the teachinghospital. Marriage was dull. I was in my 30sand not preparedto hang on to a hum-drum existence for the rest of my life. Then my husband was given the accommodation he’d applied forfor years and hewanted me to move in with him. 1 refused. The apartment I had was on a good part of the city – why leave that to live in a block of flats?“We parted amicably and got divorced shortly after. I eventuallymet a man I really fancied. He was a divorcee too – he’d been for about seven years and had four children. A successful businessman, he wanted us to get married straight away.Iwas happy in the relationship and was actually in love with him. The more I thought about the prospect of re- marrying, themore I convinced myself that what mattered most to me was romance. Romance had quickly died when I firstgot married, and I resented staying at home to look after the kids, see to the cleaning of the house and hold down a full-time job.“That was when I made upmy mind never to live with a managain.I sat my new man down, explained how I felt and left it to him to make uphis own mind about the relationship. I was happy when he said he loved me andwas quite happy to have me on any terms. He’d had some bad experiences in his marriage and didn’t want a repeatperformance. To give our union a semblance of stability, we dida traditional wine-carrying ceremony just to appeaseour relatives. So now, he stays with me weekends till Monday whenhe goes back to his house. His children are quite grown and either live abroad or stay in apartments given them by their dad. We’ve had this ‘marriage’ for five years now. We value the time we’re with each other and have a healthy social life . This keeps the romance and passion alive and because we’re not together all thetime, we don’t get under each other’s skin. There are no rows about money orsilly little things that drive a wedge between other couples. When he comesinto my home, it’s on my own terms. His things are neatly placed – whereas in his home, he does what he likes. He always leaves lights and air conditioners on unnecessarily. But he knows I’m conscious of my electricity bills and will turn offall lights and won’t leave things plugged in.‘It’s the happiest relationship I’v ever been in and I put it down to living separately, I wouldn’t change a thing!’.According to Edurie, a renowned actress, “I love the fact that I can get on the plane to say Abuja with my friends instead of being tied to the house because I have to put hot meals on the table for my husband or breast-feed a child. After I had my daughter, 13 years ago, I’d decided one was enough. I’m only human, and like any woman, have had days during a break-up of a relationship when I sit around in my nightie feeling depressed. Yet I quickly realise that, we came intothis world alone and we all go out of it alone and there’s no point being reliant on anyone else to make you happy.‘I’ve’ really had three boyfriends in my 40 odd years and all have been high-profile relationships. My first serious boyfriend was an industrialist with whom I had my daughter and he still takes good care of us. I was engaged to the second one and dumped him when I caught him sleeping with a close friend. Thethird one was abit younger and immature so we amicably agreed to be just friends. As a matter of fact. I’m on friendlyterms with my exes and appreciate what I have learnt from all of them.It takes strength to look back on a relationship and learn fromthe experiences you had with that person.‘This understanding comes with age, of course. When I was in my 20s, I was in a relationship because Ifelt it completed me.But now I look back and feel so grateful that I didn’t marry the person I was with then, I have changed so much as a person since then and I’m sure he has changed too. With age and experience, I have become confident andhappy in myself regardless of who comes in or out of my life.I certainly don’t want anyone to look at me as a 40-year-old single mother and feel sorry for me. I’m having the time of my life … “

Politics / Kogi Labour Leaders On Smear Campaign- Govt by mhaxiloaded(m): 5:18pm On Sep 24, 2017
The Kogi State Government has disagreed with Labour unions over allegations ofunpaid salaries, sayingLabour union leaders are out to “misinform the people for selfish reasons”.Speaking to journalists at Lokoja on Sunday, the Director General on Media andPublicity to the Governor, Kingsley Fanwo urged workers to continue to go to their work places inorder to serve the people of the state. He said, “Labour leaders in the state have been attempting to denigrate the integrity of the State Government by creating a false impression of non-payment of salaries despite our decisionto publish all the payments to civil servants in the state in various media, including the state website.“We urge the organized Labour to rescind theirdecision and calloff the ill-fated strike in the interest of the good people of the state.“Kogi State Government is owing August salary as well as half of July which will be paid as soon as possible. It is our desire that Labour embraces industrial peace and resist the temptation of throwing the State into tension.“We frown at the forceful execution of the strike and urge Labour leaders to reconsider their stance instead of attacking workers who intend to earn their pay. The refusal of many civilservants to heed the call for strike is enough incentive to reverse the unpopular decision”.Fanwo said government will remain committed to the welfare ofcivil servants in the state, insisting that “those who work will be paid their salaries”.“The impression they want to create about Kogiis fake, false and misleading. It is a political attempt at distracting governmentfrom its lofty initiatives of developing the state.“We will remain unfazed in combating corruption in the state.Inducing Labour to destabilize the state will not save those who blindly stole from our commonwealth from returning their loot.“We have been paying workerssalaries and shall continue to doso. Labour should reciprocate our gesture by acting with patriotism. Those pushing Labour to battle with government have no interest of our state at heart”.He said government will henceforth, “apply relevant laws to stabilize the system and ensure the state enjoys industrial peace”.
