You made the accusation. So explain what you meant.

We need to be on a common page and frequency to understand ourselves.
What do you understand by prayer?

Christianity Etc › Re: Why Catholics Use Images At Worship - Catholic Priest Artist Fr. Nnadi Explains by Michael547(m): 9:28am On Jul 22, 2024
Greenlandncom:
This is a very wrong understanding what worship means in Christianity.

Is it not possible that there are people that you have great feeling of reverence for and even bow for them as a mark of respect? Do they automatically become your object of worship?

In Christianity, worship is the act of attributing reverent honour and homage to God.

Note that you must first recognise that object whom you turn your reverence, adoration or whatever act you perform as the ultimate end in your life, hence what we call God.

And note that you cannot have two ultimate ends at once, hence you cannot have two Gods at once.

What God actually forbids is worshipping something or someone else other than himself.

Also note that worship entails obedience. Who you obey above all reveals in truth whom you actually worship. That is the real meaning of worshipping God in spirit and in truth.

A lot of Christians have replaced God with the idols (Pastors and Spiritual directors) in their lives and have even elevated them above God unconsciously. That is idol worship and these are what Exodus 20 :4-5 and further explained in verse 22. seeks to prohibit.

Finally, note that no Catholic ever turns to any image as an object of worship but as AID for worship and reminders of the many events of our faith. No less than the ark of the covenant was to the people of Israel of old - A representation of God's journey with his people that he can chose to operate through.

Peace!
Did the isrealites pray to anyone else except God?
