Sokoto State: The Hidden Gem “Suji, what’s 1+1+=11? Oya sit down here and explain it to me.” “Oga it’s Motomatics and that’s the same reason why I am in Sokoto”. This was my conversation with the ace administrator, astute politician and leader, executive governor of Sokoto state - Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal CFR, after a long and interesting meeting as part of my visit to the great Historical SEAT OF THE CALIPHATE, a city which will now be home to me in the coming years. It was a long expected delay from the Lagos Airport with Max Air, which was followed by a 4-hour delay in Abuja, but we finally boarded. Shortly before we landed, as I look out of the window, I was mesmerized by the large expanse of green scenery that caught my view, reminiscent of the forest of the east and also a rebuttal to the widely perceive notion that Sokoto is a complete desert. I’d never expected Sokoto to be this green with incredible fertile land for mass farming. While on the plane, I had an amazing and seamless time as I spent it with my longtime friend and partner - Buhari Dasuki; who never stopped talking about the numerous business opportunities in Sokoto. Upon landing, we had lots of security, bullet proof cars and escorts littered the airport, my good friend and big brother - Dahiru , was there waiting for me, dressed in a cream ‘babariga’. He had been waiting at the airport for more than 4-hours. He hugged me dearly and led us to the car. “Welcome to the caliphate Chairman, I’m delighted to see you here.” As we drove, i can’t help but remember Zaria, a city where I grew up as a child. Sokoto has lots of trees along the pathway. The environment looks very clean and serene, and it has an incredible generous population of people who never stopped smiling. “Sujimoto, these trees were planted by Sir Ahmadu Bello KBE – the Sardauna of Sokoto and the Premier of Northern Nigeria. He brought the neem trees to Nigeria in the late 50s and planted over 30,000 trees all over Northern Nigeria”. We drove to the Red Camel Restaurant Kalambaina in Sokoto, where I was treated to lots of food and assorted fishes. I also had the opportunity to once again taste my favourite Northern dish – Dawo, a local delicacy made from Millet, known as Fura in other parts of North. As I stepped out of the restaurant after I have had my fill, 2 young guys shouted; “Sujimoto, you inspires us, welcome to the Caliphate”. I was amazed that even in the corners of Sokoto, we have people who appreciate what we are doing, a testament to the fact that hard work knows no tribe, religion or race! It was almost nightfall (just the way I like it) when we had the opportunity to meet with commissioners, directors of different ministries to discuss the opportunities that lie in this great city. I was blown away by the efficiency of everyone, their mastery of prudence and the spirit of doing things immediately. Their level of optimism and attitude of possibility is very fascinating. Not once did I get a ‘No! 'Anything you want Mr. Suji, we will find a way to make it work for you'. After the meeting, we drove to meet the one I call my friend, the young and slim dogo Commissioner for Commerce; an extremely pleasant human with an incredible entrepreneurial spirt. One who can sell sand even in a desert. “Suji, with Sokoto’s population of 6 million people, Zamfara’s 5 million and Kebbi’s 5 million, we also have 3-state international border with Niger, giving us a combine population of about 20 million people and a fast developing middle class. One of the beauty of Governor Aminu Tambuwal’s administration and why I work for his Excellency is his drive to develop and tap into our numerous mineral resources, and encourage innovative investors like you to Sokoto. We have in abundance Kaolin, Limestone, Gypsum, Phosphate rock, Gold, Potash, Clay, Copper, Iron ore, Coal and biggest cattle rearing in the whole of West Africa! We are the largest producer of onions, with about 80% of vast land, a capable and affordable workforce, an underground sea with the best natural water…currently, we generate billions as revenue annually. Imagine what happens when we are able to maximize the full potential of our numerous mineral resources? With all of this Mr. Suji, there’s no way anyone can be doing business in today’s Nigeria without considering Sokoto.” I was over impressed by the commitment and passion from the commissioner, young vibrant and passionate about the opportunities that await anyone willing to do business in the great Seat of the Caliphate. Thinking about all he has said, I am not surprised that fate brought me to Sokoto. My conversation with the Commissioner, opened my eyes to the potentials in Sokoto and the North in general, for me the North seems to be richer than the South in terms of natural deposits and I am very optimistic that very soon, institutional investors will come and take advantage of the vast potential in this hidden part of our nation. This trip gave me more reasons to think globally, Yes, Sokoto might be in the corners of Nigeria but I see it as a strategic hub seating in the middle of West Africa, which is an amazing location for trading and taking advantage of not only the 200 million Nigerian population, but also, expanding our trading potential to the 650 million West African market waiting for us. I SAW OPPORTUNITIES IN SOKOTO, WHERE MANY SAW CALAMITIES! This is the best location for Sujimoto Industrial City, where we shall not only build a luxury city but a 21st century commercial hub, that will house 2000 families; over 22 Mega factories, religious centers; international standard schools; a 300-bed hospital that will drive medical tourism to Sokoto; Industrial and Agricultural University - 1st of its kind in Africa; helipad to fly you to the nearest international airport and a sophisticated security system that takes into consideration modern technological advancement such as drones and high-end CCTV camera with motion detector; a proposed independent power plant of 100megawatts, that will provide 365 days of uninterrupted power supply! One thing that excites me about the Sujimoto Industrial City (SIC) is the partnership with our Asian Allies who have designed a complete smart city with electric cars, bike and a 250 kilometer tram rail, exposing residence to one of the most sophisticated cities in Africa. This city will be one of the first green city in Africa! 'What you are looking for in Sokoto is right there in your ṣòkòtò’.' While this is mostly used to mean there are opportunities near you, I have always wondered the reason for the reference to Sokoto, but my visit to Sokoto has made me understand that the proverb is a symbolic reference to the underlying resources, massive agricultural wealth and natural deposits that has been left untapped. Sokoto is indeed a land of abundance but to see it, you have to see beyond the surface! For someone like me who is a pan-Nigerian, I believes that Nigeria as a whole is land of opportunity and Africa is our market! We ended our meeting with the best homemade local Suya with my brother and friend – Buhari, and dashed to the best hotel in town. The next day, I had breakfast at my friend’s home where I was given a warm welcome by his wife – Fatima, and their beautiful daughter – Hamra, whose golden smile can brighten the saddest soul. Hardly had I taken my seat when he said to his wife, ‘Fatima, we have to find chairman a beautiful Sokoto Princess as wife’. We all busted into laughter. We had fresh home-made Masara, lots of fruits and had a brief meeting on our plan and target for the day. We drove around town and stopped by at different places. I was amazed at how people sold limestone on the street. I am not surprised that BUA cement is making tremendous progress in Sokoto, with a capacity of over 5 million tonnes, they have not only shown that they are a pan Nigerian brand but their impact in human development, massive employment and exceptional leadership of BUA is evident in the progress the organization is making. It was also exciting to see a rice paddy - an irrigated or flooded field where rice is grown, for the first time. We also had the opportunity to visit some mega farms and later dashed to His Eminence Palace - the Sultan of Sokoto. “Suji my son, you can’t be in Sokoto without visiting His Eminence. Go there now he is expecting you”. This was the instruction from my royal father, his Royal Majesty the Ooni of Ife. It was a great drive on my way to the palace, the huge structure that symbolizes the caliphate, and the breathtaking palace was an inspiration for me. Not less than 1000 people were in the compound. The PA to His Eminence walked up to me. “Welcome Mr. Sujimoto, welcome to the Caliphate”. He ushered me to a room where i waited to see His Eminence. It was a room filled with greatness as exemplified from the pictures hanging on the wall dating back to the early 50s. From a picture of the Sarduana who was the premier in the 50s, to the Queen Elisabeth’s visit to Nigeria, to the incredible pictures of the Ooni Aderemi; our father and leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed, Tinubu, and so many more! It was the real hall of fame! As I looked around the room in astonishment, still trying to take in the beauty of the place, I heard… 'His Eminence will receive you now sir’. I was led into a premium quality, well luxuriously furnished room. The height dazed me and the luxury left me speechless. “Welcome to Sokoto my son.” I went straight to dobale (Prostrate) which was more of a cultural practice of the Yoruba people but not theirs. His Eminence asked me to take my seat and I paid homage to the other chiefs who were happily seated on the floor as I took my seat directly opposite him “I am happy to see you here. Kabiyesi, the Ooni of Ife has said a lot about you but I have known you for years, I have always followed your great work and your audacity. I have watched some of your interviews on TV, you are a pride of your generation Suji, keep it up.” We shared pleasantries and he encouraged me to keep promoting the spirit of unity in Nigeria, and I should not be shy to ask for anything. The Eminence, Sultan of Sokoto is more than royalty, he is the spiritual leader of the people of Sokoto. I left the palace mesmerized and blessed, I could tell that the Almighty had blessed my mission. We later had a meeting with the vibrant young governor who is a very generous, kind, intelligent, astute leader, goal-oriented and very passionate about bringing development to his people. After my presentation to his Excellency, he was extremely won over by the height of our vision, dreams, and our mission to transform Sokoto state. He was very supportive and welcoming. Suji, you know why we will support you? It is because your vision is in-line with our vision for the state, and our mission is simple, to encourage investors to come and dive into the great opportunities the Almighty has giving us and promote the state, while brining value to the people of Sokoto.” It was an amazing meeting and I am extremely impressed by the numerous accomplishments of the silent achiever, who just returned from commissioning 12 commuter buses donated by Dr. Said Alhassan, a citizen of Sokoto state resident in Germany, procured to subsidized transportation for the students and staff to and from the campus of Sokoto State University. Afterwards, I dashed to the airport, had a brief chat with the vibrant and diligent Deputy Governor and later had a long flight back to Abuja, where I sat next to the Governor for about 1 hour. We had a great conversation about Sokoto, Nigeria, politics, business and life, this was one of the best conversations I have ever had with a northern governor. It opened my eyes to see how extremely opened, vibrant and forward thinking Governor Aminu Tambuwal is. He didn’t speak like a Northerner, he spoke like a Nigerian! He was so jovial that we even did a snapchat video. I can’t forget Umar Hamzas, my political analyst whose love for photography supersedes the politics of the day. My trip would have been colourless without my talented new friend - Umar. My trip to Sokoto was a success because the great people of Sokoto, showed me a side of African hospitality that I had never experienced before. It is said that true hospitality is giving the best of yourself to your guests, His Eminence, the Sarduana of Sokoto; my friend Dahiru and his beautiful family; My old friend MD Buhari; the Commissioner, the ever-enterprising Governor of Sokoto state and his Deputy Governor, the Usman Danfodio University, thank you for giving me the best of Sokoto. It was rather unfortunate that I wasn’t able to meet with the students of the great Usman Danfodio University, as a result of my tight schedule but to the over 43 students who have sent me a DM on Instagram, I promise to make it up to you. If for anything, this journey has opened my eyes to see that either in Sokoto or under our ṣòkòtò, there are indeed oceans of wealth and resources in Nigeria, and if properly harnessed, will turn most states in the country to little Dubai in Africa. We need to wake up from our slumber and start harnessing the potentials in our great land. Describing how Sujimoto persevered against all odds to build Lucrezia, Ogundele said “In 2019, I was dead broke. I had just spent millions on the #Sujimotols5 event, which put Lagos at a standstill. “The foundation and piling of the Lucrezia were taking billions, we had 2 other major projects that were killing me financially. Society was watching and failure wasn't an option... A friend and egbon approached me to sell Lucrezia's penthouse. After negotiation, we agreed 2.5M USD and he made me leave NYC to meet him in Dubai, but he didn't show up “I was desperate and devastated. When I returned to Lagos, he apologized and we kept having series of meetings. At last, he did not buy, but we were lucky. We found a magnanimous bank @Providusbankig which despite all odds, gave us the capital, not only to continue the project but to complete it! “After we completed the foundation in November 2020, the LucreziaBySujimoto is now on the 6th floor, the fastest of its kind. The same penthouse we offered the egbon in 2019 at 2.5m is now selling for 9M USD! “Don't allow anyone to use their bread to lick your soup. No one can design your destiny except you. Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has been advised to forthwith desist from activities that amounted to alleged interference with the course of administration of Justice over Enugu Centenary City land matter still in court. Responding to an online publication made on 8th august 2021 which was titled “police operatives being used by land grabbers” a publication that was made by HURIWA, this warning was contained in a statement issued Thursday by Private Estate International West Africa Limited (PEIWA) through its lawyer, Dr. J. Y. Musa SAN. HURIWA through its members, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and Zainab Yusuf had organized a press conference which resulted in the said online publication. Part of the statement issued by PEIWA through its lawyer and made available to the press read, “In a press conference in Abuja at the weekend, the National Coordinator Comrade Onwubiko and National Media Affairs Director Miss Zainab Yusuf, both of HURIWA specifically called on the IGP to call to order a Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG, who is being accused of misdirection and misusing SWAT to try to allegedly assist so-called “land grabbers”. PEIWA noted that the press conference by the HURIWA as an association can be perceived as interference with the course of administration of justice as the publication emanating from the press conference reportedly received ubiquitous distribution across the print and electronic media in the country, saying that a section of the report by HURIWA is capable of misleading the reading public. It stated that “based on the above comments, your organization, without attempting to independently verify or ascertain the veracity or falsity of the claims made by the faceless purveyors of the purported Petition, is credited with ‘lamenting’ the “purchase of police operatives by land grabbers” and proceeded to urge the IGP to investigate the allegation of purported human rights abuses in respect thereof” The statement went further to say that evidence available for public knowledge is to the effect that PEIWA has been identified as the beneficial owner of 1,097.128 hectares of land at Obeagu/Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu Local Government, Enugu State as against the claims made to the office of the Inspector General of Police by certain persons. “Our client is the beneficial owner of 1,097.128 hectares of land at Obeagu/Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu Local Government, Enugu State (“Enugu Centenary City”) covered by a Building Certificate of Occupancy with File No.: LEN/28425 and Survey Plan No. EN(A) 594. “The said area of land in the Enugu Centenary City was allocated to our client by the Enugu State Government on 18th May 2009 under the New Township Development Agreement (“NTDA), vide a Building Certificate of Occupancy dated 10/11/2009 and duly registered as No. 20 at Page 20 in Volume 1622 in the Lands Registry, Enugu. The statement noted that HURIWA’S intervention is sub judice, libelous, and replete with falsehood “without prejudice to the above background, it is our considered view that HURIWA’s Press Conference alluded to in the above publication wholly consists of falsehood and attempts to re-invent facts, to the benefit of notorious criminals and their accomplices. “In the first place, the press conference conducted by your organization indicates that the Enugu State Government purportedly revoked the Certificate of Occupancy issued to our client, PEIWA in respect of the Centenary City land on account of certain forgeries that came to light. This position is evidently contrived and concocted, as it does not represent the position of the Enugu State Government itself in any of its correspondences with our client or any process filed in any of the matters currently pending in the various Courts. “The court documents are in the public domain and are open to verification by any interested party. Furthermore, neither our client nor any of its officers has been charged with the offense of forgery in connection with the Enugu Centenary City land. Our informed view is that your organization’s allusion to forgery in its press conference is the latest installment in a string of attempts to misrepresent the facts and obfuscate the true issues. “As a self-described human right and civil advocacy group, it behooves your organization to ensure that it obtains the proper facts so as to offer fair and lawful commentary, within the limits of what is allowed in law. To this end, a responsible organization ought to have made efforts to obtain a balanced view of the entire circumstances of this matter by interviewing or seeking the views of our client, the DIG FCIID denigrated in its press conference or by obtaining relevant court documents which are easily-accessible public documents. “It is therefore clear that HURIWA’s intervention by way of the aforesaid Press Conference and the accompanying publication is, at the very least, an attempt to interfere with and/or obstruct the due administration of justice. As a purported human rights body, the importance of refraining from interference in matters that are sub judice cannot possibly be lost on you. “The Courts have consistently warned all persons to desist from commenting or otherwise interfering with matters that are the subjects of pending judicial processes, at the risk of committal for contempt- see the case of BELLO & ORS v. AG LAGOS STATE & ORS (2006) LPELR-7585(CA “In the final analysis, our client is of the considered view that your press conference and the publication of same constitute actionable falsehood, for which redress may be sought at the appropriate judicial fora under the laws of defamation against your organization corporately and against Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and Ms. Zainab Yusuf personally. “You are also advised to henceforth desist from taking any further step in the aforesaid matters or conducting itself in any manner as may embroil your organization is time-consuming, costly and very public litigation” it ended. https://leadership.ng/enugu-centenary-city-group-advised-to-desist-from-interference/

Private Estates International West Africa, PEIWA has issued a strong warning to anyone looking to buy portions of land at the Enugu State Centenary from persons other than those duly recognized. The warning follows ongoing activities on the land in question that go contrary to the Legal Mortgage created in 2009. A statement signed by, Dr. J.Y. Musa, SAN, Solicitor to Private Estates International West Africa said that for no just cause and without serving the mandatory notice of intention to revoke as required by law, some persons in government purported to have revoked the Certificate of Occupancy granted to PEIWA over the said land. He said that the matter is still in court hence any buyer or investor is advised to stay clear to avoid losing the money and or being joined in a legal tussle According to him, “PEIWA’s Certificate of Occupancy over the said1,097.128 hectares situate at Obeagu/Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu Local Government Area, Enugu State otherwise called Enugu STATE CENTENARY CITY remains valid and subsisting, and has neither been terminated nor validly revoked howsoever.” He said only his clients have the legal and equitable rights to alienate, dispose or assign any interest in respect of the said land. He further warned those looking at acquiring portions of the said land saying, “the said land or any part thereof is Not for sale, purchase, lease, rent, alienation or disposition in any manner whatsoever, pending the determination of various substantive suits currently before the Courts. “The public is hereby advised to desist from dealing with or buying the land or any part thereof in respect of the 1,097.128 hectares of land at the ENUGU STATE CENTENARY CITY. “Anyone who buys or deals with the land at the ENUGU STATE CENTENARY CITY from any party other PEIWA and its partner will acquire a defective title and at his or her peril. Consequently, any document of title issued to any person(s) during the subsistence of these Orders of Court is invalid, null, and void.” Continuing, he said, “This Public Notice became necessary given the history of the Centenary City and the recent upsurge in violent activities and destruction in the area perpetrated by certain persons. The Centenary City is a 1097-hectare development situated in Obeagu/Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu Local Government Area of Enugu State which is covered by a Certificate of Occupancy issued to PEIWA by the Enugu State Government in 2009 for the construction of an ambitious and capital-intensive project described as the Centenary City. The project which is a multi-billion-naira project has been so far funded through capital from local investors, foreign investors, and loan facilities obtained from local banks. “Despite the huge scale of investment, visible ongoing development and the involvement of Enugu State Government in the land acquisition process, certain criminal elements, allegedly with the tacit support of certain elements within the Police and the Enugu State Government, have continued to encroach and illicitly sell portions of the land to the public, as part of a syndicate. “To enforce these illegal sales, the syndicate allegedly deploys crude violence against legitimate workers, residents, and even armed policemen within the Centenary City; despite various court orders restraining them from doing so and several reports made to the Police. For instance, in June 2021, security operatives of the estate and three policemen on routine patrol were allegedly assaulted and the thugs attempted to steal the firearms of these policemen. There have also been other incidents of violent attacks on other persons resulting in severe injuries and attempts to cart away multi-million equipment and property of the Centenary City. “There is no greater demonstration of the breakdown of law and order than when thugs can molest, beat up and even attempt to forcibly collect arms from men of the police force without fear of consequences. Thus, individuals aware of what is happening at Centenary City Enugu are gravely concerned by the real danger these hoodlums could pose to society, and their fear is genuine. The protection allegedly being enjoyed by the land grabbers and the impunity the thugs have to treat police officers like common criminals with utter disrespect raises cause for concern, especially with the upsurge in banditry and violence amongst non-state actors in Nigeria. Land grabbing seems to have become an attractive crime in Enugu since it appears less heinous than armed robbery and kidnapping. Sadly, the gangs deploy the same level of violence they ordinarily use for armed robbery and kidnapping in their bid to scare the legitimate landowners as they seek to take possession. As a consequence of these acts, the area has become a hotbed for all kinds of criminal activities. For instance, few days after the attack on policemen, a couple was kidnapped at the same spot by the same gang wielding their pump-action guns. These couples are residents of Centenary city and were kidnapped on their way home. “The criminals are getting emboldened daily and will continue to be more vicious if left unchecked. This calls for serious attention by the law enforcement agencies and the judiciary. “This is not the first time this kind of molestation is happening against the police officers- not so long ago, the former SPU commander in Enugu was also allegedly badly beaten by the same gang of land grabbers, who were heard boasting that nothing will ever happen to them because they have the full protection from the highest level of the Police. Sadly, the same group of land grabbers (which mainly comprises known criminals and ex-convicts) continues to operate unchecked. It took the intervention of the DIG FCID Abuja - following a petition approved by the IGP for efforts to be made to bring the criminals to book. Even at that, the senior police officers in this racket are making frantic efforts to stall the investigation.” the statement explained. Financed entirely in Nigeria and made with a predominantly Nigerian cast and crew, Arie and Chuko Esiri are capturing international attention with their feature in new movie "Eyimofe". "Eyimofe” (“This Is My Desire”), the debut feature from co-directors (and twin brothers) Arie and Chuko Esiri, is a heartrending and hopeful portrait of everyday human endurance in Nigeria, West Africa. The film traces the journeys of two distantly connected strangers at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder. Shot on richly textured 16mm, the film is a vivid snapshot of life in contemporary, colorful, chaotic Lagos, the largest city in the country, whose social fabric is captured in all its vibrancy and complexity. It’s also a tale that was inspired by the filmmakers’ own journey. “In a romantic way, we wanted to insert the film in the catalog and annals of the great city films that had been shot on celluloid,” said Chuko in a recent interview with News men. “We’ve seen Rome on film, we’ve seen Paris and London, but everything that we’d seen of Nigeria on film is archival footage, it’s ethnographic footage, it’s documentary. It’s not cinema, and cinema is a completely different beast.” Documentary filmmakers might beg to differ, but the brothers are steadfast in their thinking. Still, the immortalization of the city on celluloid is a noble feat, especially when shooting in a country without any stable cinema infrastructure, a notoriously unreliable electrical grid and nightmarish traffic. “Shooting on the streets of Lagos is notoriously difficult, because it’s a dense city and has what are called ‘area boys,’ or street guys,” Chuko said. “The idea of shutting down a street for a film production — I mean, if the president of the country can’t do that when he visits, then we weren’t going to be able to do it for our movie.” Born 30 minutes apart in Warri, Nigeria, they grew up in Lagos, but at the age of eight, their parents shipped them off to boarding school in England to complete their formal education. At the time, there were no cinemas in Nigeria, so movies weren’t a part of their childhood. “At the time, the country was experiencing successive military regimes, and each regime had bright ideas about what was good for the culture, and these ideas were almost never good,” Chuko said. “So we didn’t grow up going to movies.” Twenty years later, they both enrolled in film schools: Arie graduated from Columbia University and Chuko from New York University. During their time in New York City, they collaborated on a pair of short films: “Goose,” presented at the LA Film Festival in 2017, and “Besida,” which premiered at the Berlinale in 2018. They returned to Nigeria as adults and found a Lagos that has somehow felt foreign. “Eyimofe” was born out of that experience — the idea of leaving and returning much later to whatever “home” is. “It came from my returning to Nigeria for my stint in the National Youth Service,” he said. “From the age of eight to 22, I had only spent time in Nigeria on holiday, so now I was spending substantial time in a place to which I belonged but where I was also something of an alien — until then I hadn’t really faced all that it meant to be in Nigeria. I wanted to return to where it felt more familiar and where I would feel more comfortable in a national film industry. Even though Nigeria has a robust industry, Nollywood is a massive machine but I didn’t want to make the kind of films people make in it.” While the Esiri brothers spent much of their lives overseas, “Eyimofe” was financed entirely in Nigeria and made with a predominantly Nigerian cast and crew. The film is now drawing a new level of international attention to Nigerian cinema and screening at several festivals, including Berlin and New Directors/New Films. However, as Nigerian movies get more notice outside the country, it’s also raising the issue of exactly what a “Nigerian film” is supposed to be. Akeju, a US-based director at Aflik TV while making comment on the new movie, added: " The movie details much of African migrants experiences in the Diaspora. The production is very different and professional. Kudos to the directors and all the team behind it'' The Janus Films will release “Eyimofe” across various theaters on Friday, July 23, 2021 and will be hoping it inspires as much audiences as possible. Leading fashion brand, The Wardrobe has unveiled an iconic African-centric fashion brand ‘Ade~ Fashioned to-Fit’ to solve the nutty challenge faced by most African fashion enthusiasts with finding Africa fit sizes in ready-to-wear garments. At the formal launch of the brand ‘Ade’, the Afric Size Fashion brand, at the company’s headquarters on 37 Allen Avenue, the company said it has taken keen notice of the problem faced by many Africans, especially Nigerians when it comes to foreign ready- to-wear which often does not take into consideration Africa unique sizes and shapes, hence the need to bridge the gap with the African-centric brand ‘Ade’ that eliminates the size problem with a perfect fit standard African body size measurement charts. Speaking at the official launch of the brand, Mrs. Adetowun Awofeso who is the managing director of ‘The Wordrode’ said “Ade is a home-grown fashion brand powered by The Wardrobe Ultimate Concept Limited that seeks to clothe Nigerians and Africans in general, both at home and in the diasporas with high-quality Ready-to-Wear outfits that meet their tastes, African shape, and values. This gives them their true African identity and pride. “As a fashion business with many years of practice and a truly African business, The Wardrobe has taken the responsibility of creating a home-grown fashion identity that defines our African true figure, fashion tastes, values, and needs. “Ade pride itself in its vision which is to be the topmost African Ready-to-wear fashion brand in Africa, with a global presence and the mission to design, produce, and retail high-quality fashion items that fit the African body, values, and taste. In doing this, the Proposition is to ensure every African has access to high-quality fashion items that fit them perfectly without needing any adjustment. The target market are the middle income working class African Women and Men of 25 – 40 age grade as well as 40 – 60 age grade. The outfits are for corporate and formal occasions, for matured mind”. Mrs. Awofeso went further to note that the Covid-19 lockdown had helped to expose Africans and the over-dependence on everything foreign and revealed the almost loss of identity as Africans. She said that having identified this problem of near loss of identity amongst Africans, there came the urgent need for the ‘Ade’ brand to evolve and attempt to redeem the true African identity. She remarked “one major area of the over-dependence on foreign products is in the fashion industry. Ironically, most fashion products made in Europe or Asia, especially Ready-to-Wear garments, are produced for their figure, taste type, and values and not for Africans. This spurs the need for adjustments on ready-to-wear garments bought outside the country. Hence, ‘Ade’ as a brand is birthed to take full responsibility for creating a home-grown fashion identity that defines the true African figures, fashion tastes, values, and needs.” Mrs. Awofeso emphasized that the brand, ‘Ade’ represents and emphasizes perfect fitting, that is, fashion to fit the African shape. By this, the ‘Ade’ brand is set out to fill the void created and solve the struggles of people looking for the perfect shaping and sizes in ready-to-wear fashion. Hence, one of ‘Ade’s essence is “to ensure clients get their perfect fits and sizes. The key promise of the brand Ade is making available, high quality ready-to-wear garments that fit the African shape. And this it is positioned to achieve, taking cognizance of African unique sizes and shapes,” She remarked. ‘Ade’, as a foremost African fashion brand, seeks to clothe Nigerians and Africans by and large, at home and abroad with high-quality Ready-to-Wear outfits that meet their tastes, African shape, and values. This is expected to give them their true African identity and pride. To achieve this, the brand, ‘ADE’ has develpoed a standard body measurements chart for the African body shape, known as Afric Size Chart. The Afric sizes have been developed into three categories and these are – Afric Size Regular, Afric Size Plus, and Afric Size Minus. Ade uses the Afric size charts to develop body blocks that have helped to eliminate the challenges experienced by most Africans buying foreign ready-to-wear garments. These challenges are majorly the problem of Bust-Waist-Hip size proportion for the very curvy African shape, the problem of center back length and the right dart positioning, and the problem of shorter back length in comparison to front length because of bigger waist-Hip ratio. The fashion brand Ade is designed for the liberated African mind who have been delivered from the mental slavery of foreign brands, the African who knows his/her true identity and abilities to use them right, the African who is willing to take charge of his/her destiny, African willing and ready to take Africa out of the wood to a higher level and Ade speaks to every true African. The birth of Ade and the use of the Afric Size chart in the ready-to-wear garment production in Nigeria is expected to provide succor for Nigerians in meeting their ready-to-wear garment needs, thereby reducing our over dependence on garment importation. This will in effect reduce our demand on foreign currency. This will invariably help to develop the textile industry and the entire value chain in Nigeria. The company believes, with Ade and the development of many more home grown ready-to-wear fashion brands in Nigeria, we can tackle the problem of unemployment in Nigeria, as it can help reduce unemployment to as much as 30% in our nation, also consider that garment production is a labour intensive industry. Finally, to enable us reach to more Africans both home and in diaspora, the company has developed a website with complete e-commerce features that enables clients to choose their design and using the body measurement chart to create their unique piece. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2021/07/a-big-first-the-wardrobe-ade-fashion-launches-innovative-afric-size-range/

Businessman, management consultant and UBACLE Group Chairman, Uba A. Michael, Saturday, paid a courtesy visit to Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru to share thoughts on how to improve on the successes of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the state. Welcoming Uba, Ogboru urged the good governance advocate not to relent in his effort in trying to sanitize politics in his little way. He said politics can be played in a better way than what we currently experience in the country. Uba on his part thanked Ogboru for the warm reception saying that Nigeria has come to a point where we must begin to actually enjoy the dividends of democracy. He called on everyone is a position of power to understand that power is transient and posterity will not be fair to anyone who abuses the positions he begged to be elected into. His words: “We are 22 years old into democracy and we must begin to really enjoy both the tangible and intangible benefits of democracy. “A 22-year-old child is no longer a kid, so we cannot continue in a way that depicts us as kids. “Our leaders must understand we have come a long way as a country and Nigerians have tried in waiting for the benefits of democracy which has continued to remain mere promises.”

Congratulations ma. Such a beauty |
By SujibomiOgundele, CEO, Sujimoto Group “Suji my son, you must follow me somewhere, I want to blow your mind and quadruple your vision”. This was a message I got from my royal father, the Ooni of Ife, HRH AdeyeyeEnitanOgunwusi, the Ojaja II. I had to leave everything I was doing, and make my way to Ibejulekki Free Trade Zone where Dangote has not only transformed the skyline, but also changed the social and economic value of the location, making it the new Lagos for all industrial and commercial opportunities. It was a tedious experience traveling to a location that should ordinarily take us 40minutes, but we had to spend 1hour 30 minutes as a result of the unavoidable traffic on that route. However, I was stunned by the level of development that has unfolded in that area and I must appreciate the Lagos State government for the social and economic revolution of the Lekki Aja zone. I enjoyed the trip which was filled with different interesting scenes, one of such is the sight of road-side hawkers, who reminded me of my days, hawking in South of France, and the endless joy when one finally makes that one sale. I saw one hawker with a carton of Gala delicately balanced on his head. I bought the whole box from him, not because I love gala but as a way to appreciate his hard work and bring joy to the face of a man who needs it the most. We arrived Ibeju and I couldn’t but stop to appreciate the enormity of the project, the passion of the people and the humongous man-power. This was a place I had visited in 2016 with my friend Sulaimon Sanni Bello, and it was a simple desert land, all you could see then were many piles, trees and non-exhaustive swamp being sand-filled. Today what seemed like a dream has become a reality. Getting to the gate where my name was already registered, a Hilux truck which was already waiting for us took us to Chief Edwin’s Office Wing, and we were ushered in. I went straight, prostrated and paid homage to my most adored human - my King and mentor, Kabi o osi, Ooni of Ife, Ojaja-II, HRH AdeyeyeEnitanOgunwusi, the first son of oduduwa. “Chief Edwin, meet my first son, the number one luxury real estate mogul. He builds skyscrapers in Ikoyi and Banana Island. He has disrupted everything mediocre in that space. I have a lot of them, my dream and vision is to inspire and motivate the great youths of our nation”. I greeted everyone seated, the CFO Mr Femi Kolade, the MD Guiseppe Surace, the amazing GM EgbonYinkaAkande, Kabiesi’s friend and partner Mr.RotimiOsobe and my very good aburo and friend Landwey - OlawaleAyilara. It was an incredible experience where we discussed the magnanimity of the project, the vision, the inspirations and the challenges. Kabiesi said; “I know 24hours will not be enough to go around this 140 kilometer project but let’s start”. I have traveled around the world and visited numerous industrial parks but never have I seen something this gigantic - a city in a city, a swamp transformed to 8 times the size of Victoria Island, and this is why my King said it’s an understatement to call the Dangote Refinery in IbejuLekki a city, we shall name it a NATION! Concretely fencedaround approximately 3500 hectares of land, the largest single line refinery in the world producing 650,000 barrels a day! According to Chief Edwin; “The current world largest produces 420,000 barrels a day, what we have is 50% bigger than the biggest”. A 3-in-one industrial park where they refine petroleum and petro-chemical products, and also the biggest and largest producer of fertilizers not only in Nigeria but the whole of Africa with an annual capacity of 3 million tons. I have unfortunately been amongst some big and influential people, who throw tantrums and comments about the Dangote Refinery dream. One said ‘’Dangote should have remained in cement, he has put his hand into what will swallow him, that project will never come to pass’’. Today the 22 billion dollar project is 90% completed. Sometimes, don't blame people for their inability to assimilate your vision, because it’s only limited to the capacity of their imagination. I am sure this man today will be swallowing his words when the plant opens in few months Q1 2022, and the fertilizer which is 50% completed will start its first commercial sale this month of May 2021. I am sharing this as an inspiration for myself and for our generation that if Dangote can do it, we too can do it! In a country where many see calamities, let’s see opportunities! Let’s transform our anger into hunger for innovation and together change our nation. In 2007, Dangote approached the government to buy the Port Harcourt refinery, he paid and somehow the deal was frustrated. He was devastated but what looked like a disappointment is now a blessing! Today, less than 20 years later, Dangote is building and has almost completed a project that is 10 times bigger than what he thought was a disappointment. Chief Edwin, the brainbox and Mr. Giussepe the MD of the project narrated with an overwhelming passion the vision and the project, for more than 2 hours. We couldn’t finish the tour of the fertilizer plant with a 3,000,000 ton capacity. We also learnt that Nigeria consumes 750,000 tons annually and Brazil their biggest market consumes 8,000,000 metric tons. The lesson I learnt which is very important is this; Chief Edwin made us understand the farming sector of this nation has not yet harnessed up to 10% of its true potential. We went on with Mr. Giussepe, passionately explaining the technical data, numbers and words, in his Italian accent, just passionately expressing the gigantic nature of the project. A project which has taken about 4 years to complete. It is still a baffle how could one man assemble a team of over 15,000 expatriates, constructing about 50,000 homes in 9 months, 2500 construction equipment (making him the largest construction company in the country, bigger than JB), 350 Cranes, building 20 control rooms for 20 projects, grouped in 5 major projects, making it the largest industrial hub in Africa. A 5 billion storage capacity of oil product (which is 5 times the capacity of all the tank farms in Ibafo and the whole of Nigeria); a power plant generating a combined capacity of 500 megawatts; a business that is employing over 200,000 skilled and unskilled people daily, Dangote is an entrepreneurial BEAST! We drove through the 86 pump station for tanker trucks, an automated station that fills every truck in 21 minutes. At its full potential, it should disperse approximately 198,000 litres of fuel daily, an efficient and illustrious project in sub-Saharan Africa. We went on break to have lunch, a beautiful mixture of about 12 dishes from African fusion to the pastas of Italy. I rolled my sleeves to the hot Amala and Egusi with fresh goat meat. I didn’t care staining my white shirt, it was as delicious as my experience in the mega project of 140 kilometer road network (Phase1), which is almost like traveling from Lagos to Ibadan. It is HUGE! We finished eating and got on the bus again and Mr. Giuseppe- the MD of the project, took us on another 3hours tour. The Italian born who has been in Nigeria for almost 20 years enjoyed taking us on the tour and giving us every detail, something he has done more than 200 times. At every junction, he will stop and give us a lecture on the project, the vision, the challenges and how they overcame them, (Kabiyesi, this place you stand now was a swamp, we sand-filled 65 million cubic meter of sand bringing 3 dredgers - 2 of them were the largest dredger ever built in the world). “After sand-filling about 65 million cubic meter, we had to do a foundation of approximately 200,000 piles, stacking 350 piles a day, a total cost of over 300 million dollars. We were frustrated and had to do many things ourselves in order to meet deadlines. We set up our batching plant delivering 30,000m3 batching capacity on a daily basis, using about 1000 Tipper trucks and today we have done more than 2.5 million m3 of Concrete”.The same amount of concrete needed to build the BurjKhalifa. KabiyesiOonirisa, Oba Oluitori, and everyone were so perplexed and wondered how one man could conceive this. Kabiyesi never stopped asking questions, technical questions that if I didn't know him, I would have thought he had done a refinery project before. Everyone was left in awe every time the Oonirisa asked a question or contributed to the conversation. It was a great experience, an eye-opener, and a lesson for any entrepreneur on earth. One of the lessons I learnt also was that Dangote had to build his own port, out of necessity and urgency. Apapa port capacity couldn't support Dangote’s equipment which are 3 to 8000 tons, with the biggest single steel product in the world, weighing 3,000 tons. Sometimes, your location and environment should not be enough to swallow your vision. The so-called miniport is not mini at all, it has a tonnage capacity 3 times that of Apapa. Though limited in size, it can still handle approximately 500 containers daily. It's small but MIGHTY! If I were the NPA, I will immediately ease the Apapa already over-congested port and divert some ships to the Dangote port. The undisputed 10 times Africa's richest man never sleeps and is always active and welcoming when we appear in his home. I have been here for 31 years, I love it here! I come home, sleep, off to work and many times out of the country, you can’t be sleeping when you have such a humongous project at hand, especially in a rather tough terrain that is relatively new to us. Alhaji came outside to usher us in, he bowed in greetings to the Oonirisa and welcomed us to his home with delicious ginger tea and fresh honey. We were hosted by his assistant Mr. Sam, who always politely gave us what we needed before asking. “The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria "Private sector", thank you for inviting us to your home. Alhaji, meet my first son, Sujimoto….” “Oooo I know Sujina, he’s the luxury skyscraper man, keep up the good work Suji….” Kabiyesi continued; “Alhaji, we have come to bless and appreciate you as a son of Africa who has made us proud, for over 40 years! You have been consistent, moving up like this your plane on the table. You have confronted and fought the biggest battles and impacted our economy! You have made dreaming a possibility and inspired many generations. We are thankful to you and that’s why I bring you this artwork, as a symbol of wealth and good health.” 11th of May 2021, will be a day I will never forget in my life, actually one of the best days of my life! A day that changed my perspective, increased my vision and redefined my mission on earth. We left the location around 10:30pm and I couldn't stop thinking about my life, my vision and my projects. I told the Ooni about my Sujimoto Diamond City (SDC) - a smart city inside a city, where we shall have about 16 skyscrapers with the shortest one at 22 storey, 2 giant Malls, 2 exclusive 5 star Hotels, Amusement Parks, Games and Event centers with a 25,000 car park capacity, this trip has really inspired me and revamped my vision. Entrepreneurship is about surrounding oneself with people, stories and events that inspires the hidden dreams in us. I shared the story on my TNL group where many appreciated and adored Dangote for his audacious project. Some were being critical and I had to vigorously address them, that it was a shame to only see the ‘hole’ when you are served a doughnut'. This is an investment of 22 billion dollar which will generate 27 billion annual revenue, with a profit margin of 15 to 25%. If this does not drive you, then I doubt anything will. If anyone wasn’t mesmerized- I was, as I even dreamt about the project again last night. This trip has taught me that Fortune follows the Brave and life will only succumb to you if you persistently chase your dreams.
