We can achieve this. A rail system connecting all major cities in Africa.
|
Africa has come of age and should have all her major cities connected by rail for mass and effective transportation system. Much development might not be recorded on the continent if goods and services cannot be mass transported from one point to another prompting the need for African Continental Rail proposal as contained in the picture below. If it ever is a good idea, it might remain much more a theory than reality due to lack of will and financial constrain. If the will is there, this idea could be achievable if African countries devote 5percent of their annual budgets over a period of 7years to this project. Finances can be drawn by making savings from: 1. Reduced arms importation. 2. Reduction in foreign travels for medicals, tourism and education. 3. Reduction in import of foreign goods that can be sourced locally. 4. Donation from wealthy Africans for good of all. Rail track represented by black dash line could be amended to suit regional needs but the primary focus of connecting all major African cities by rail should be retained.

Considering how hard working Nigerians are, a similar move by our Government could help to boost productivity. Russian President Vladimir Putin has become the first world leader to offer every single citizen a free hectare of land in any part of Russia. Putin has agreed to expand a program that offers citizens land in Russia’s Far East to all of the country’s regions. The President discussed his plans during a Q&A session on Thursday, saying that he believes there is so much land in Russia that everybody should be entitled to a piece of it. “There is enough land in Russia. Forty-three million hectares of farmland alone are not used for their intended purpose. These are huge, just huge land reserves,” Putin said. Rt.com reports: Under the Russian version of the Homestead Act, every citizen can get a free hectare of land in the Far East, if they are willing to put it to good use. Within the first year, the recipients must declare how they want to use the land, and, in three years, must report on how it is being developed. After five years, the land can be sold or leased. Some 93,000 applications have been received since the program was launched in June of last year and nearly 20,000 of those have been approved. The regions with free land on offer include Yakutia, Kamchatka, Chukotka, Primorye, Khabarovsk, Amur, Magadan, and Sakhalin, as well as the Jewish Autonomous Region. The land can be used for any lawful purpose, but the new owners cannot rent, sell, or give the land away for five years. Foreigners are also eligible to use the land, but the registration of full property rights is only possible after the recipient becomes a naturalized citizen. I think Nigeria is still searching for that idea that will lead to integration to catapult us to where we truly want to be. Change does not come that easy. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

Most judges are fearless, but are left in the hands of the judged after proceedings, while politicians who don't contribute much go around in police escorts. Give our judges escorts or good protection and I am very sure they are patriotic Nigerians and would do the right thing. -My contribution to moving Nigeria forward. |
Suggestion for next election. -Elections should be held in at least six to seven months before hand over dates. This will give room for all tribunals and court proceedings to be concluded before hand over date. The era of a sitting elected person having case in court should be abolished. Also it will make the rulings of our election tribunals meaningful. The rulings of our election tribunals have no weighing: a governor is elected and sworn in, his opposition goes to election petition tribunal and the ruling is in favour of the opposition but the sitting governor refuses to step down before appealing. He appeals immediately and still remain in office and the ruling of the tribunal is useless. The ruling of a court should stand and be obeyed while an appeal is being made. -Ballot papers should be printed at the polling station on the date of the election. Permanent voters cards are issued and tried on a card reader before elections. Accreditation is done on the day of election and an accreditation number be issued to voters. Ballot papers can now be printed on the spot and should bear the accreditation number of the voter. Ballot papers are printed and sometimes even thumb printed before elections. This should stop. Ballot papers are so important that they arrive later than all other electoral materials. Sometimes, they are even prevented from coming to the polling station if deemed a strong hold by an opposition. Printing ballot papers which bear a unique accreditation number at the polling station on the day of the election should be a way forward. |
We will get there. Love to Nigeria. |
