APC faction office in Kaduna demolished after suspending El Rufai

The secretariat of the APC faction that suspended Governor Nasir El-Rufai two days ago has been demolished. It is alleged that some soldiers were on ground to supervise the demolition of the secretariat situated along number 11 B Sambo in the state capital this morning Tuesday February 20th.

The Secretariat belongs to the faction loyal to the suspended senators representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani and that of Kaduna North zone, Suleiman Hunkuyi. It was opened last week as a parallel State APC office due to the inability of the group to reconcile with the State party organ. The one storey duplex is owned by Senator Hunkuyi before it was converted to a State Party Secretariat last week.

Suspected Boko Haram members last night launched an attack on Girls Science Secondary School in Dapchi community in Yobe state. Thankfully no student or teacher was abducted. A resident of the community who spoke with AFP said

“When they stormed the village they began shooting and setting off explosives. This drew the attention of the girls in the Girls Science Secondary School, so the girls and the teachers were able to escape before the attackers got into the school.”
A member of the vigilante group in the community said the insurgents were aiming to kidnap the school girls.
“There was an attack on the girls secondary school in Dapchi by Boko Haram. Obviously the attack was meant to abduct school girls but luckily they found none of the girls as they were taken away by teachers before they arrived,”.

Unable to kidnap the girls, the Boko Haram fighters looted the school before fleeing. Recall that in April 2014, over 200 students of the Chibok school girls were abducted. While many of them have been rescued, others are still in Boko Haram captivity.

The 30-year-old wanted to breastfeed after her pregnant partner said she did not want to do it herself, according to the Transgender Health journal .
She was able to breastfeed after taking a course of drugs and breast pumping, the US case report said.
A UK expert said the “exciting” research could lead to more cases of transgender women breastfeeding.

The woman had been on hormone replacement therapy for six years, but had not gender reassignment surgery, when she approached doctors with the aim of breastfeeding the child.
Before the baby was born, doctors put her on a three-and-a-half-month course of treatment to help her artificially produce milk, usually given to women who have adopted babies or who have them via surrogates.



This included breast pumping, taking hormones produced by biological mothers, a drug which can stimulate milk production and a male hormone blocker.

As a result, the woman was able to produce a “modest but functional” amount of breast milk – some 8oz a day.
Researchers said this was the baby’s only source of nutrition for its first six weeks, during which time her growth, feeding and bowel habits were “developmentally appropriate”.
After this, the baby also started having formula milk because not enough breast milk was being produced.

The baby is now six months old and she continues to be breastfed as part of her diet, the study’s authors said.
Dr Channa Jayasena, a senior lecturer at Imperial College who specialises in reproductive endocrinology, said the research was an “exciting development”.

He said he had heard of a few cases in the UK of transgender women being helped to breastfeed, but until now no report has been published.
Dr Jayasena added: “What we really need to do is pool together these cases and share our knowledge, to find the best recipe for breastfeeding in these patients without exposing them to any health risks.”

The researchers said it was not clear whether all of the medications used in the woman’s treatment were necessary to achieve lactation.
They said further investigation was needed to determine the optimal treatment for transgender women wishing to breastfeed.

UK declares Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s church, Christ Embassy, insolvent!

The Christ Embassy church in the United Kingdom is in debt and has been declared insolvent by the Charity Commission, the agency that regulates charity organizations in the country.

The church owned by popular Nigerian pastor, Chris Oyakhilome, was flagged on the Charity Commission website as "charity insolvent". According to the commission, a charity is considered as being insolvent when it is "unable to pay its debts."
Report says the ministry’s annual return for the years 2013 to 2014 indicated that a total of N7.6 billion (£15.1million) was paid to the interim manager. The church still has an outstanding fee of N1.1 billion (£2215,914) to pay the interim manager in 2015.

The Commission explained: "In practice there are two separate tests for insolvency and failure of either might be an indication of insolvency: The charity cannot pay its debts as they fall due for payment; The value of its liabilities exceeds its assets.
"Charities will be flagged as insolvent on our register when we are made aware of an insolvency situation and we are provided with verification from a qualified, independent insolvency practitioner."

The ministry also admitted in its belated 2015 financial Statement (the church’s last annual return, which it published in 2017) that its subsidiary, Christ Embassy Limited, valued with a net asset of more than N1 billion (£2 million) entered into liquidation from November 1, 2016.

A series of crises have plagued the UK branch of Christ Embassy church since 2013. In 2014, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome lost a fierce power tussle over the church in the UK with his ex-wife, Anita Oyakhilome, now known as Anita Ebhodaghe Schafer. Ms. Anita was the head of the UK branch of the church while Mr. Oyakilome presided over the charity’s board of trustee since inception, but he was forced to resign in 2014.

After he was kicked out of the church’s board of trustee, the couple divorced five months later. In 2013, the UK government set up an inquiry into possible financial misplacement of the church’s fund between 2008 and 2012, Premium Times reports. Government-appointed auditors later raised eyebrows over suspicious payments worth N2.14 billion (£4.28 million) made to companies and organization closely related to the church in 2013.

US Scientists Have Discovered a New Family of Antibiotics That Cure Strong Infections in Soil Samples


US scientists have discovered a new family of antibiotics that cure strong Infections in soil samples. The natural compounds could be used to combat hard-to-treat infections, the team at Rockefeller University hopes.

Tests show the compounds, called malacidins, annihilate several bacterial diseases that have become resistant to most existing antibiotics, including the superbug MRSA.
Experts say the work, published in Nature Microbiology, offers fresh hope in the antibiotics arms race.

Drug-resistant diseases are one of the biggest threats to global health.
They kill around 700,000 people a year, and new treatments are urgently needed.

Drugs From Dirt That Can Cure Strong Infections

Soil is teeming with millions of different micro-organisms that produce lots of potentially therapeutic compounds, including new antibiotics.
Dr Sean Brady’s team at New York’s Rockefeller University has been busy unearthing them.
They used a gene sequencing technique to analyse more than 1,000 soil samples taken from across the US.


When they discovered malacidins in many of the samples, they had a hunch it was an important find.
They tested the compound on rats that they had given MRSA and it eliminated the infection in skin wounds.

The researchers are now working to improve the drug’s effectiveness in the hope that it can be developed into a real treatment for people.
Dr Brady said: “It is impossible to say when, or even if, an early stage antibiotic discovery like the malacidins will proceed to the clinic.
“It is a long, arduous road from the initial discovery of an antibiotic to a clinically used entity.”

Prof Colin Garner, from Antibiotic Research UK, said finding new antibiotics to treat gram-positive infections like MRSA was good news, but would not address the most pressing need.
“Our concern are the so called gram-negative bacteria which are difficult to treat and where resistance is on the increase,” he said.

“Gram-negative bacteria cause pneumonia, blood and urinary tract infections as skin infections. We need new antibiotics to treat this class.”

Everyone’s heard their fair share of sex myths, especially during their teenage years. Unfortunately, though, some myths might persist well into adulthood, affecting the way we relate to our sexual lives. Here, we debunk some of the most widespread misconceptions about sex.

“When did you pop your cherry?” “You’ll go blind if you masturbate!” “Oh, and maybe put your sex life on the back-burner if you want to wow your colleagues at next month’s sports event.” Do these phrases sound familiar?
Well, we’re here to look at the facts on these and other myths about quality time in the bedroom — and we don’t mean sleep.
So sit back, relax, and learn why you should try to stop worrying so much about apocryphal “facts” about sex.

1. Popping the cherry
This is the age-old belief sex myths that a woman’s hymen is a good place to look to if you desire to know whether she’s still a virgin — or, at least, if she has engaged in vaginal intercourse.
But although much significance is attached to the hymen as an alleged marker of virginity in many cultures, the truth is that more often than not, it can’t tell us much about a woman’s sexual history.

The hymen is a membrane that lines the opening of the vagina, and its actual shape and size varies from person to person. Normally, it does not cover the vaginal opening entirely — which makes absolute sense, since otherwise menstrual and other discharge would not be able to leave the vagina.
In fact, some of us are even born without a hymen .
In the rare cases wherein the hymen does cover the entire vaginal opening — this is a congenital condition called imperforate hymen — surgery is carried out to perforate it and allow vaginal discharge to pass out of the body.
While vaginal intercourse or some more strenuous physical activities could cause minor hymen tearing, many women do not experience any tearing or bleeding during sex, as the hymen can stretch to accommodate the penis.


2. Menstruation as ultimate baby barrier
Another favorite piece of sex myths is that women can’t get pregnant if they have sex while on their period. It’s true that this scenario is highly unlikely, but even so, the possibility of pregnancy isn’t fully eliminated.
The likelihood of becoming pregnant after period sex depends largely on how long your menstrual cycle is. In most women, the menstrual cycle lasts for approximately 28 days. Usually, 3– 5 of those days are taken up by their period, during which unfertilized eggs, or “ovules,” and uterine lining are eliminated.



Women are most fertile during the ovulation stage of their menstrual cycles, when fresh eggs are produced. Ovulation usually takes place about 12 to 16 days before the start of the next period.
Some women, however, have shorter cycles, which means that their ovulation stage also happens earlier.
That, coupled with the fact that sperm can live inside the human body for up to 5 days, means that if the timing is right, sperm could hang out inside the female body for just long enough to survive the period and penetrate a fresh egg.

So, if you do plan to ease those menstrual cramps by having sex, you may wish to consider using a condom.


3. It’s not an orgasm if it’s not vaginal
This is another sex myths, Perhaps thanks to the supersexed ideal spread by commercial porn, many people are stuck for a long time with the idea that a woman’s orgasm is purely a vaginal experience, achieved through repeated penetration.
A quick look on the Internet will reveal that some popular searches include, “Why can’t I orgasm?” and “Why can’t I make my girlfriend climax?”
Well, as Medical News Today explained in a longer piece, there is no “one-size-fits-all” recipe for achieving orgasm , and very often, women will require clitoral stimulation, instead of just vaginal penetration, to reach that sweet spot.
For some, penetration doesn’t cut it at all, and clitoral stimulation alone is their stairway to heaven.
In fact, according to Essentials of Obstetrics and Gynaecology , of the women who reach sexual climax, “25 percent […] achieve orgasm with penetrative sex and 75 percent need extra clitoral stimulation.”
That’s why both men and women would do well to learn as much as possible about their and their partners’ bodies and try to understand what makes them tick individually.


4. Masturbation is bad for you
This bring us to our next sex myths item, which is that masturbation, somehow, is bad for you. There are, in fact, many myths related to masturbation: that it can make a man go blind; that it can lead to erectile dysfunction; and that it can cause sexual dysfunction in women.
Don’t worry, masturbating won’t hurt you, and you may want to take your sweet time while you’re at it.
In case there were still any doubts, there are absolutely no links between your genitals and your eyes, so try as you might, you won’t lose the gift of vision just by exploring your nether bits sometimes.
In fact, specialists argue that there’s no such thing as masturbating too often, and that it actually brings a plethora of health benefits, including released tension, eased menstrual cramps, and, no less importantly, a “roadmap for [the] body,” as sex therapist Teesha Morgan said in a TED talk .

She added that, for women, this roadmap learned through masturbation helps them to more readily achieve an orgasm; they become better-equipped to solicit the kind of attention that best works for them.
As for the notion that frequent masturbation can cause erectile dysfunction , Morgan explained that it, too, is a false concern. However, she added that what could happen in some cases is that a man may become used to a certain practices — for instance, “quickies” — that could then take over in partnered sex, as well, with unwanted results.


5. Sex affects athletic performance
This 5th sex myths seems intuitive, doesn’t it, that engaging in exercise that might be somewhat demanding, such as sex, will decrease your stamina, so you probably shouldn’t play at this game right before running an important marathon.

For years, the managers and coaches of top sports performers have forbidden their athletes to indulge in steamy action before important events, for fear that their performance would be weakened.
You’ll be relieved to find out, then, that that’s not really the case at all. Recent studies show that having sex the day before participating in a sports competition doesn’t affect performance.
Still, researchers point out that further investigations should still be conducted — regarding the potential psychological effects of sex when it comes to athletic performance, for example.

One editorial addressing the question of sports performance following intercourse suggests that, depending on individual psychological resilience, sex might alter the state of mind of an athlete before a competition.
“If athletes are too anxious and restless the night before an event,” the authors write, “then sex may be a relaxing distraction. If they are already relaxed or, like some athletes, have little interest in sex the night before a big competition, then a good night’s sleep is all they need.”

Long story short, there is no evidence that a little consensual sex “match” is anything but good for you — just learn what works for your body, stay safe at all times, and if something you’ve heard or read about sex sounds fishy, fact-check it against a credible source.
