[qoute]The police in Lagos are on the trail of a security man, identified only as John, who allegedly raped two sisters for several weeks in the Anthony area of Lagos.

PUNCH Metro learnt that 61-year-old John reportedly gave the sisters, Comfort and Precious (not real names), the sum of N200 to appease them each time he raped the girls.

He was also said to have warned the 11-year-old and 10-year-old victims that he would kill them if
they revealed the secrets to their mother.

It was gathered that the rape, which reportedly went on for several weeks, was later discovered on August 30, when the girls started to complain about back pain and headache. The girls then opened up to their mother, who reported the matter at the Anthony Police Division.

When Punch visited Fidella Street, Aladura Estate, where the incident happened, it was learnt that John had not returned to his rented apartment since the day the incident was reported to the police.

Speaking with PUNCH Metro, the mother of the girls, Rosemary Peter, who hails from Kafanchan, Kaduna State, and works as a food seller, said John usually asked the girls to bring food to his workplace in a take-away pack during which he took advantage of the girls.

She added that she was not aware of the incident, until when her daughters began to complain about back pain and headache. She noted that she also observed that her daughters’ private parts were slack.

She said:

“I work as a food seller. John was one of my customers. He would say I should send a take-away pack to him at his workplace by afternoon. So, when the girls returned from school, I would send the two of them to take the food to him. I did not suspect that he was raping them.

When they took the food to him, he would take them to a place and rape both of them. After satisfying himself, he would give them N200, and warn them not to say anything at home. He would threaten that he would harm them if they spoke up.

Eventually, the two of them started to complain about headache and back pain. I was worried. On one occasion, I happened to be where the 11-year-old was taking her bath, and I observed that her private parts were slack as an adult’s. I was shocked, and I urged her to tell me what went wrong.

“That was when she opened up that it was John who had been sleeping with her and her sister. I rushed to the police station to make a report, but news had got to John that the girls had let out the matter, and he fled the area on the same day.

But the police have assured us that he would be arrested. They told us to alert them anytime we set our eyes on him.”

A resident in the area, who gave his name as Fatai Gafar, said the police should intensify efforts in arresting the suspect, adding that the girls had yet to receive any medical attention.

He said, “The whole estate is aware of the incident. It is very unfortunate. The security man does not live here with his family. He was the only person staying in the place he rented, and he has fled.”[quote]

A 27-year-old woman in Ushafa, a suburb of Abuja has been apprehended for purportedly pouring hot, pepperish water on her fellow woman whom she claimed was having an affair with her male lover.

Report has it that the victim, Blessing Markson, 25, on that faithful day was in her sister’s hair saloon, when the suspect charged at her with a plate filled with hot liquid substance which she emptied on her. The substance burnt off part of her face and breasts.


It was gathered that, the suspect who is an indigene of Cross River State, on seeing some text messages on her boyfriend’s phone sent by the victim had accused him of having an affair with the victim.

Report says trouble broke out after the suspect prepared a meal and was turned down by her lover. This action did not go down well with her, and she attacked the alleged lover.

According to an eyewitness, “She succeeded in tracing the victim in her sister’s saloon through the same phone number she had been calling and sending the text messages to her lover’s phone.

“As soon as she got to the saloon, she engaged her in a fight before pouring the hot substance which was a mixture of pepper and hot ointments on her face and breasts.

It was learnt that, the suspect on seeing the pains inflicted on the victim fled the scene but was caught by residents and and Civil Defence on guard in the area.

John Efere the head of NSCDC in Bwari, when contacted confirmed the incident,saying the suspect is currently cooling her heels in their custody.

Following the recent attacks by Boko Haram members in the state, the Gombe state government has ordered the closure of all public and private schools in the state. Parents who took their children to school this morning were asked to take them back home following the directive by the state govt which was sent out to all school heads in a circular yesterday evening.

The Permanent Secretary, Gombe state Government House, Sani Jauro confirmed the closure to NAN but said it was just a "normal mid-term break for students".
