The future of former Nigerian international Emmanuel Emenike is up in the air, less than three weeks before the opening of the winter transfer market. According to gazzetta.gr, the Olympiakos striker is under orders to train alone even though he is not recovering from any injury. In all likelihood, Emenike is set to depart the Super League champions in the January transfer window, with CSKA Moscow mentioned as a possible destination. The striker had complained of being unsafe at his home in Greece and Olympiakos were forced to hire extra security to protect him. It is thought that Emenike is disgruntled because the Piraeus-based club did not offer him the wages he demanded when he moved from Fenerbahce in the summer, but CSKA Moscow are likely to meet his wage demands if the transfer materializes. Apart from the aforementioned teams, the 30-year-old has worn the jerseys of Kardemir Karabükspor, West Ham, Spartak Moscow and Al-Ain FC.

Nigeria is not Uae. All the countries there are not owing civil servants and pensioners money. You can't employ people into unnecessary positions. Not in Nigeria |
Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano has opened up on why he didn't play well in Argentina's 4-2 loss to Nigeria in an international friendly in Krasnodar last month. What the Nigerian fans took away from the performance of Alex Iwobi against the two-time world champions was when the Arsenal winger embarrassed Mascherano with a nutmeg in the build-up to Nigeria's fourth goal. ''I never excused myself from the things that were happening, I was physically depleted and that prevented me from doing some things, but I did not finish it,'' Mascherano told TyC Sports. ''I did not put in one hundred percent as I could go, in the end you end up realizing that it is irresponsible because you can harm the team, I will not do it in a World Cup, forget, this was a friendly, and nobody obliges us to do the things we do.'' Looking ahead to the 2018 World Cup, the Barcelona number 14 said : ''By names, people may think that it is not complicated, but by the quality of the players that each team has, it is a fairly even group. ''You have to be aware that our level now is not the best. Maybe in June it will be something else. We have the obligation to get to the first match in the best way . If you know before six months it is going to be complicated, you have no excuses.'' Mascherano captained Argentina at the 2010 World Cup in their 1-0 win over Nigeria and was handed the armband in the absence of Messi in November's friendly in Southern Russia.

The English Football Association are considering a proposal from the Nigerian Federation for an international friendly ahead of the 2018 World Cup. General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation Mohammed Sanusi has stated that they are planning to play a friendly against the Three Lions in June, before the World Cup. However, the English FA have yet to confirm whether Nigeria are one of their opponents before their first match at the World Cup against one of Africa's representatives Tunisia. Gareth Southgate and the FA are aware that a match against Nigeria will provide England with an opportunity to know what to expect from Tunisia at the World Cup. If an agreement is reached, it would be the third time Nigeria has faced England's senior team, the Super Eagles narrowly lost 1-0 to England in a friendly in 1994 and faced them in the 2002 World Cup, in a match that ended in a goalless draw. German tactician Gernot Rohr earlier reiterated the plans behind organizing top profile games for the national team next year before the World Cup.

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has commented on Friday's World Cup draw which pitted Argentina and Nigeria in the same Group D. Messi, who has faced Nigeria several times at youth and senior level, is wary of the Super Eagles, saying that they can score plenty of goals if they find their rhythm. The Barcelona number ten was excused from November's friendly between La Albiceleste and the Super Eagles, and in his absence the South Americans lost 4-2 despite leading by 2-0 at a point during the match. ''Nigeria are like that, they have two faces. If they have their day, they score four goals...,'' said Messi to TyCSports. ''They have very good players it was clear in the second half; but they also allow you to play, they leave gaps and many spaces are generated''. Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel voted for Messi in the Best FIFA Football Awards Men's Player of the Year. ''We played many times against each other, but never talked. Simply a greeting and respect forever,'' added Lionel Messi. Including the youth teams, Messi has been directly involved in 6 goals (4 goals, 2 assists) Argentina has scored against the Nigerian teams in five appearances.
