Just thinking out loud!
There has been no power supply in my area for the past eight weeks. I know someone reading this would be laughing out loud saying theirs is over a year now, but sincerely it’s no competition, I am just trying to welcome myself to reality, though this coming when the first citizen told us some few weeks back that he has redeemed all he promised in the power sector is wearisome.
I heard my president manifesto when he campaigned in 2011, and although he promised heaven on earth which is never possible, I never expected it this worse. In Mahtma Gandi’s words, he once said ‘The ones that uses extreme policies to frustrate people are called leaders while the ones that vent their frustration and anger to the policies are labeled terrorist. I need not say much with this quote as you and I can deduce why it is easy for terrorism to spring up in Nigeria.
Swiftly to my main point, my dear country people have to learn not to be shallow or gullible as the case may be. At this period where politicians come to your doorsteps, if you let yourself be deceived by promises of heaven on earth, do not worry the next time you will see him again is 2019 with the same hefty promises you want to hear.
Hard for you to still get my exact point? Let me simplify, I know so well of an aspirant whose main promise and what he has stood for all his entire life is zero tolerance to corruption and another who still contemplates if stealing is actually corruption. Nigerians do know that much logic or a PhD certificate is not a requirement in tackling corruption (even developed countries like the USA has only had one president with a PhD). Tackling corruption by cutting unnecessary expenses and other means will improve our economy, reduce unemployment, bring happiness to the common man, eradicate terrorism and there will be enough to get us good infrastructures.
If only corruption had only been tackled long ago, the youth of my generation wouldn’t have been called the name their parent never gave them “YAHOO BOYZ” which means internet fraudsters to which they answer proudly now, even the civil servant wouldn’t be so bent on bribe after his income and the so called drug traffickers would have find a way out to another country where their business would thrive.
There is much more to say but let us hope you hear from me soon again. I am not the best of a writer, I’m not even the type that comes on social media neither to flaunt my new collections nor to vent my frustrations as it widely used for now. I am just someone whom after much pain in my heart took the time to put something down with my red pen because there is danger looming. I am signing out with 2baba’s song, E be like say them want to tell us another story again ooo… Nigerians, I beg, DO NOT BE SHALLOWED.
