Nigerian troops yesterday made startling discovery while combing and clearing terrorists in and around Dikwa, Borno State.

During the operation, the troops discovered pile of street lamps poles cut into pieces by Boko Haram terrorists, which they use in making Improvised Explosives Devices.

In another development, during a cordon and search operation in Jakana village, the troops of 7 Division Garrison recovered 15 cows, 174 goats and a donkey from rustlers.

The animals have since been handed over to their identified legitimate owners. The rustlers were apprehended and are currently undergoing investigation.

Similarly, troops at Jehu near Jakana, arrested Mai Mustapha, a fuel supplier to Boko Haram terrorists and Madu, who coordinates buying of food items from neighbouring villages for the terrorists.

Additionally, Nigerian troops Thursday morning blocked Boko Haram fighters that attacked Dumbuluwa village in Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The gallant soldiers killed eight terrorists.

What do you achieve by denying the obvious?

That those territories were recovered isn't really the issue here. The weapons used are. Are u trying to tell me that after those territories were recovered, these sophisticated weapons were seized or lost? What happened to them(weapons) after winning the war in the 6weeks of miracle?

The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Olisa Metuh, has confessed that it is cold being in the opposition, explaining that some members stopped showing commitment to the affairs of the party the week it lost the 2015 presidential election.

Metuh, who disclosed this to Sahara TV on Tuesday, said: “It is cold out here. It is cold because people that have been with you for the past 10 years now decided to change because we are no longer in power. It is cold out here because people allowed themselves to be used against the party. It is cold out here because you are subject to the machination and conspiracy of the ruling party. But in terms of service, being in the opposition renews your commitment.

“The week that we lost the presidential election, some members changed. They are no longer committed and even the staff of the party are no more disciplined because there is no benefit to get. This has, however, separated those who came to reap from the PDP and those who want to really serve. Politics is about service. Those who want to serve will remain”.

The PDP spokesman further alleged that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari was selective in its anti-corruption crusade, describing the recent probes embarked upon by the government as political lynching.

His words, “One thing is clear, there is no group, association or political party in this world where you will not find corrupt persons or those who want to engage in corruption. We welcome the probe of corrupt government officials because we in the PDP don’t condone corruption. If there is any of us who is corrupt, the law must take its full course. You must have respect for the rule of law.

“What we are witnessing now is political lynching. The ruling party is painting every member of the PDP as corrupt. They are rewriting the rule of law. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. This is unconstitutional, undemocratic. Our point is that: let the rule of law prevail. You can probe, there is nothing wrong with that but probes should not be the centre programme of any government. What is their agenda for the nation? Probe is diversionary.”

The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP, has said that the lifting of arms embargo to Nigeria by United States of America, USA, was the first diplomatic breakthrough of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

National Publicity Secretary of CNPP, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, who made the remarks while reacting to the development it described a “harvest and dividend of Buhari’s uncommon integrity.”

It will be recalled that the U.S. placed arms embargo against Nigeria based on the Leahy Act, which frowns against allegations of Human Rights breaches against the Nigerian Military. The Leahy Act is a Human Rights law of the US, which prevents the US State Department and the Department of Defence from selling arms and ammunitions to countries whose military are believed to have committed brazen acts of Human Rights violation.

Okechukwu noted that, the CNPP applauded the heart warming news Diplomatic Breakthrough; emanating form the US delegation led by the head of United States Congress Committee on the Judiciary, Congressman Darrel Issa to the effect that the U.S. will soon lift the current arms embargo placed on Nigeria

According to him, “For us, this is the 1st Diplomatic Breakthrough of President Buhari administration; a harvest and dividend of his uncommon integrity. In other words Nigeria has been reconnected to the global community,” he said.

The umbrella body of registered political parties said, “Pundits attributed the resort of our dear former president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, to the under the table and Black Market to procure the needful arms and ammunitions to contain Boko Haram insurgents, to the blatant refusal of the US government to sell arms to Nigeria because of the Leahy law.

“Accordingly, we congratulate Presidents Barack Obama and Muhammadu Buhari; for it is our candid view that the Diplomatic Breakthrough – lifting of arms embargo on Nigeria by President Obama, is a direct dividend of the integrity of President Buhari, an uncommon political capital, upon which Nigerians voted.

“The US was relying on President Muhammadu Buhari and the military chiefs to rebuild the trust of Nigerians in the military as an institution that would protect the citizenry.

“The fact is that this new regime with the new general staff has begun the process of ensuring that military professionalism in all post-civilians and combats has been made in a way that we can both be confident that the rule of law is being obeyed.”

CNPP appealed to Nigerians of all cadre, creed and political party, to candidly join Mr President in laying a solid foundation for a new Nigeria; as this singular act of the US government has put paid to those who insinuated that President Buhari’s U.S. Trip was a futile exercise and a jamboree.
