Igbo Jews are nothing but members of the Igbo people of Nigeria who practice a form of Judaism,and far from being or having a link with the core biological ones. They either adopted Judaism newly, or are descendants of the Jews of Bilad el-Sudan.

The Igbo fruitless agitation for a Jewish biological recognition began when due to an early (and widely influential) statement from an Igbo man, Olaudah Equiano , a Christian-educated freed slave, suggested a migratory origin of the Igbo Jews. He remarked in his autobiography of 1789 that: " "the strong analogy which... appears to prevail in the manners and customs of my countrymen and those of the Jews, before they reached the Land of Promise, and particularly the patriarchs while they were yet in that pastoral state which is described in Genesis — an analogy, which alone would induce me to think that the one people had sprung from the other." For authoritative support, he gives reference to "Dr. Gill, who, in his commentary on Genesis, very ably deduces the pedigree of the Africans from Afer and Afra, the descendants of Abraham"

The above statement, however, has since been discarded as an absurd speculation. Critical historians have carefully reviewed the historical literature on West Africa during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. They have clarified the diverse functions (quite aside from questions of validity) which such histories served for the writers who proposed them at various times in the colonial and post-colonial past. [2][3]
Knowledge from sources broader and more self-critical than the Biblical — from contemporary historians, archaeologists, historical linguists, and other scientifically based disciplines — have argued against these claims.

“In this modern day of scientific advancement, one of the ways we can ascertain whether we are or not related to Jews is by doing DNA matching,” said Dozie Ikedife, an 86-year-old Igbo doctor who helped organize the group test in early February.

The DEOXYRIBONUCLEIC ACID (DNA) RESULT HAS CONFIRMED THAT IGBOS ARE not JEWS .
The result says there is no possible ancestral link between Igbo and the Jews.
The international President of Jewish Voice Ministries, Rabbi Jonathan Bernis, announced that the result of saliva samples taken in Nnewi had shown that the Igbos were not Jews.

Members of the group had gathered at Uruagu-Nnewi to collect what would be
confirmation of DNA test result of Ndigbo’s claims that they are descent of Israel.

Rabbi Bernis who read the report from a laboratory based in Houston, Texas, the United States of America (USA) said that, “the result of the samples taken from Nigeria randomly on some people in Igboland bear no semblance with the ones in the data base of the laboratory.”
The Israeli in company of three of his compatriots said that none of the 124 specimen taken from Nigeria matched the samples in the Houston laboratory which has 17 years’ experience in DNA business.
He, however, said that the, “result does not rule out the claim of Igbo to Israeli descent,” adding that more research would still be made to authenticate these claims.

The President of RICON, Bishop Ignatius Orizu (JP) while commenting on the DNA result said that, “the result would not deter the organisation from continuing to research into the claimed descent of the Igbo from Israel.”
