Ose held her hand and kissed her fingers as she laid on his chest. She moaned in pleasure and closed her eyes. Ose stared into space and thank God for Felicia; for her stubbornness and persistence. If she hadn’t pushed him to publish his novel, he probably wouldn’t have met Roselle. She was different from the other women he had dated. She was calm and collected but there was something else. He couldn’t place his finger on it but he loved it.

“Ose, what did you do to me?”, she whispered.

“What do you mean?”, he asked with a smile in his voice.

“Ose, I forget all my rules when I’m with you. I, for example, do not have sex on the first date. I’ve broken that rule with you. I never spend the night with a guy. That one is certainly gone. I mean I have a toothbrush already.”, she said.

He smiled. “But you won’t have us at your place?”
“Well, I guess Roselle Pepple is still intact if haven’t broken that rule yet.”, she said and stretched.

He sat up and asked, “What is it about us at your place that scares you?”

“It doesn’t scare me. I just don’t fancy it. I love my place and its sanctity.”, she said.

“You seriously like living inside a cotton wool? Because that’s what it is. Everything is ridiculously white.”, he joked.

“If I didn’t like you so much, I’d leave for dissing my apartment. It’s not like you’ve never been there before.”, she said.

“Exactly. So I don’t see what the big deal is if we go over.”, he said.

“Is there a reason you want us there?”, she asked.

“Whatever.”, he said and got off the bed and went into the restroom.

She sighed and shook her head. She was in deep shit. Here she was exploring with Ose and having the time of her life but she didn’t know how long this bliss would last. Mayowa was in Abuja working with the Abuja office of his firm on a case they were defending at the Supreme Court. Once it was over, she didn’t know what to do. The reason she didn’t want him at her place was because of Mayowa. He had his personal effects in the house. She didn’t want to lose Ose over this.

Why was he making a big deal about coming to her apartment? What did he want to prove?
Ose wondered what she was insecure about. He liked her but he couldn’t help but feel this was another relationship that would end in tears. He shook his head and rejected that notion. Roselle was different. She wasn’t a cougar. She was sweet and respectable. She didn’t seem like the type to cheat. And she hadn’t given him that impression.














Chapter 19.


Tinu stood euphoric in front of the crib. She wasn’t listening to the sale attendant list the specs of the crib. All she thought about was what her baby would look like in it. After two years, she was finally pregnant again. She brought her hand to her belly and smiled. She told the attendant she’d take it. She picked her phone and texted Chris.

She turned and bumped into a heavily pregnant woman. She apologized profusely.

“It’s ok. It’s just a little bump.”, the woman said. “With all this fat, I won’t break anything.”

“Still, I’m sorry. My husband always warns me not to text and walk but I never listen. I guess I’ve learnt my lesson today.”, she said nervously.

“Don’t mind him. Men are just jealous they can’t multitask.”, the woman joked and Tinu giggled.
“I’m Marilyn.”

“Atinuke. It’s nice to meet you.”, Tinu said.

“Well, let me not keep you. Have a lovely day.”, Marilyn said.

“Sure. You too. I’ll try not to bump into anyone again.”, Tinu said and walked away.

Marilyn’s smile faded and transformed into a scowl. She’d work her way into Tinu’s life, become her friend and then use her gullibility to destroy her.

Rosanna pulled out her drawer desperately looking for her scrunchie. She was shocked when she saw a heart shaped box of her favorite chocolate with a note. “Hope you still like them. I saw them and thought of you”

How on Earth did he get in here?

She picked up her scrunchie and pulled her hair into a ponytail. She made a mental note to talk to the cleaning lady. She contemplated whether to eat the chocolate or give them out. She decided on the latter. She pulled it out and tapped the lady beside her.

“Chidera, do you want some chocolate?”, she asked.

“I wouldn’t mind.”, the lady said and she gave her the box.

“So, Rose. It’s only Chidera that deserves chocolate?”, Gideon, the man behind her asked.

She smiled shyly and said,”No, I just thought..”

“Thought what?”, Ismail asked jokingly. “So we, our head reject chocolate?”

“Rose, don’t mind them. Abeg, Chidera. I want chocolate. Let me beg honourably.”, Ada said and walked up to Chidera and took two pieces of chocolate from the box.

“Ahh! So Chidera, you will not give us chocolate?”, Gideon asked.

“If you beg honourably and stop doing Oga there I will.”, Chidera said and put a piece of chocolate into her mouth.

“Rose, see what you have us turned us to.”, Gideon said.

“I’m sorry. Next time I’ll give it to everybody.”, she said laughing and returned to work.

“Rose, thank you. It’s really nice.”, Ada said.

“You’re welcome.”, she said over her shoulder.

“Before, it’s imported.”, Chidera put in and continued eating her chocolate to taunt the men in their bullpen. “If you want, just beg.”

“Never.”, Gideon said and returned to his work.

“Ok.”, Chidera said and they all laughed

One thing I noticed is that among d options, u didn't put in Rosanna's current bf, so after all his romanticism, nothing happen *laughs*

Rosanna turned her head away as her father tried to kiss her cheek. She was angry with him. She thought it wise to work at his newly acquired office pending the time her application to lecture in the University of Lagos was accepted. What she didn’t count on was his being overly sensitive. It was normal for her to have issues with her boss. Granted, Rose had overstepped with her words but it wasn’t ground for him to put her on suspension. Now, everyone at work would hate her and walk on eggshells around her.
She was angry with him and she wanted him to know that she was. She continued to glare at the book in her hand on the pretext on reading it.

“Ok. You’re angry and you want me to ask why. Why are you angry, my gracious rose?”, her father said and took a seat opposite his daughter.

“Daddy, you embarrassed me today. You shouldn’t have suspended Rose. She didn’t deserve it.”, Rosanna ranted.

“Of course, she did. She had no right to talk to you like that. Boss or not. Boss’ daughter or not. It was simply unethical. I would have done the same thing if it were another person she was talking to like that.”, her father explained.

“Really?”, Rosanna asked with an eyebrow raised.

“Ok. I might not have fired her first. But a suspension would have been more likely. I believe in respect in the workplace. She spoke with so much animosity. I wonder if her reason for talking to you that way was purely because you were sloppy. And since when did three time winner of Editor of the Year become sloppy?”, her father asked with his eyebrow raised.

“Ok. I might have told a white lie. But it was because I didn’t want you to fire her.”, she quickly defended.

“You too should be on suspension.”, her father said angrily.

“Ahan, daddy m.”, she whined and went to sit on the arm of the couch he was sitting in. “Daddy, I’m sorry.”

“Leave me alone.”, he said as she wound her arms around him.

“Daddy, I love you.”, she said.

“Go away.”, he said feigning anger.

“Daddy m.”, she called and he smiled weakly.

“Rosanna, leave me alone.”, he said.

“Tell me, you love me and you forgive me.”, she demanded.

Chris watched his wife squeeze her face in concentration and smiled. This was are moment of bliss especially after all the tumults they’ve been through. It was nice to see her calm, not sad or on the defensive or angry; to see the Tinu he fell in love with that afternoon all those years ago.

“Its official. I prefer video tutorials to cookbooks. Why on Earth is this woman using heightened language? As if her book is to be read at an English tea party.”, Tinu groaned in exasperation. He smiled in response.

“Tinu, let’s go on a cruise.”, he put in.

“What?!”, she asked as she continued to try to follow the instructions in the book.

“A cruise. Just the two of us.We could use the Cyan Lady or go with a cruise company. Let’s just go on a vacation.”, he explained and took a sip out of his drink.

“But what about Chris and the company and….”

“Those are not excuses. Chris can stay with mum and dad. And Mr. Paul can hold the fort temporarily and besides I can still manage the company from the Mediterranean. So?” he clarified.

“What's the occasion?”, she asked.

“Does there need to be one?”, he chuckled and answered.

“Really, Chris. Is this a bribe or something?”, she asked.

“Really?”, he said and burst into laughter.

“What? It’s not the first time. Remember the trip to Paris that was to pacify me because you had to travel out during our anniversary.”, she said.

“No. This is just to get to spend more time with you. I miss having you to myself. I mean I can’t remember the last time when it was just us without the children. I want to see that smile on your face a lot longer.”, he explained.

“Awwn. Well, if that’s the case then definitely. Let’s go.”, she answered.

“So, don’t I get one of those thank you kisses.”, he asked. She smiled and went over to give him a kiss.

Ose knocked on her door before his mind talked him out of it. He heard her say ‘coming’. His mind kept nudging him that this was a bad idea. He shooed those thoughts away. He needed to see how she was doing especially after what happened at the publishing house the other day.
He had texted her to meet up with him but she didn’t show up. He had gone to the office to see her and he walked in on her shouting at Rose. He knew Rose could be a pain and he felt her nepotist of a boss was wrong in suspending her.
She opened the door and he saw her and that ache in heart became more prominent. He had missed her. Whether he wanted to admit it or not she had worked her way into his heart.

“Hello.”, she greeted casually.

“Hi. Can I come in?”, he asked coolly.

“Sure.”, she said and let him in. He walked into her white apartment. The ceiling, walls and tiles were white. White couches and accents of white furniture. The only things that weren’t white were the television and cable decoder that stood out like a sore thumb. She asked him to take off his shoes and put on slippers.

“This is a lot of white.”, he muttered.

“White calms me.”, she answered and offered him a seat. “So what brings you here?”

“Well, I wanted to check up on you and see how you were doing.”, he put in.

“Well, my time out is going ok. It’s terrible but then it’s not that bad. I’ve had time to reflect on a lot of things. So, I’m good. Thanks for showing up.”, she said.

“Great to hear.”, he put in and there was an awkward silence.

“Ose, if that’s all then I’d like to get back to my reflection.”, she said coldly.

“Why didn’t you show up that afternoon?”, he asked.

“I’d rather not talk about it. Ose, I think it’s time you leave.”, she said exasperated and stood ready to show him to the door.

“You tell me you feel something for me and you just disappear and now you don’t want to talk about it?”, he said angry and stood too.

“Look, I know what you want to say. You only like me as a friend. You have a girlfriend. You love her and you want to remain good friends. Did I miss anything out? No. Please leave.”, she rambled.

He looked at her and chuckled. Women and jumping into conclusions.

“What if I tell you you’re wrong? What if I tell you that I like you too? What if I tell you that you stole your way into my heart at a time when I thought I’d love again? What if I told you you’re like a ray of sunshine after a gloomy, grief-stricken storm?”, he said and stalked closer to her.

She faltered in shock and whispered, “Id say you’re pulling my legs at best and lying to me at worst.” He shook his head and pulled her in for a kiss. She stood there in his arms, too shocked to return his kiss.

“I have no reason to want to pull your legs or lie to you. I really like you, Rose. I really do. Let’s just try and work this out. Please. If you still feel the same way you said you do then let’s try to work this out.”, he said.

“Ok.”, she whispered.

The woman stood by the grave of the man she loved more than anything in the world and cursed Atinuke Coker with everything in her. It was her fault he was dead. It was Atinuke’s fault her life felt drab and dank and empty. It was Atinuke’s fault she lost everything that mattered to her. She would make her pay. She would make her feel the pain of losing everything that made one smile. From her husband to her children, she would lose them and suffer the way she was suffering now.

Oh, Atinuke would suffer. Her suffering was as inevitable as the sun rising. She would make her hope and wish and pray for death. Even if it was the last thing she did, she’d make Atinuke suffer.

“Simon, I promise you, she will pay for separating us. I swear on the love I have for you.”, she said with gritted teeth and wiped the tears that stained her cheeks.

“Don’t worry, brother. Your death will not be unavenged.”, the man beside her said. She broke down in sobs and he hugged her.

“I miss him so much.”, she sobbed.

“Me too.”, he said and patted her as she cried.

Rose walked into the house and locked the door. She was tired. She wished she could removed her eyes and have them rest somewhere for a bit. She turned and met her father reading a newspaper and Alisdare standing with a bouquet. She groaned. She was too tired to deal with him. She walked up to her father and kissed him. The man excused himself and left his daughter and her visitor.

“Good evening, Rosanna.”, he said.

“Its Rose. And good evening.”, she answered. “Is there something you need? I thought I told you I wanted you to leave me alone.”

“But what about what I want?”, he asked.

“You’ve always been about what you want. You wanted to win the bet, you wanted me to fall in love with you and you wanted to use me. Please Dare, I think you’ve had all you want.”, she and dropped her handbag.

“I want you to hear my story.”, he whispered.

Dele has all but severed ties with his mum after she told the truth about what she did.

As to why he 'gave up' without a fight will be explained in the subsequent updates but let's not forget that he left for Abuja when he thought it was Temi that was involved in the accident with Tinu.

Overall, dis story is really great, d way u interwined d characters is nothing short of splendid, fantastic, fabulous and so many words I can't type out.

“Hello, Mmesoma.”, she greeted.

“Hey. This is the person looking for you.”, the receptionist announced.

“Yes. Thank you. Hello Dare. Long time, no see. What are you doing here?”, she said.

“I came to see you, Rosanna. I met your Godfather and he told me where to find you.”, he said. He had called her name the same way he used to all those years ago. Mmesoma excused herself with the excuse she had to use the restroom.

“Oh. This is really a bad time. I’m really swarmed with work so I won’t be able to get down to catch up. So if you’ll excuse me, have a nice day Alisdare.”, she said. As she turned to leave, he held on to her hand.

“Can we meet during the weekend then?”, he asked.

“Um. Dare, it depends on when I finish the works I have to edit. And that isn’t something I can rush through.”, she said.

“When will you be free then? Rosanna, we need to talk.”, he all but begged.

“Dare, I honestly want to tell you a particular day but then I don’t know. And frankly, I don’t want to see you. Truth be told, I’d rather you don’t come here anymore. We’re not exactly friends and I don’t want us to become enemies because seeing you will only bring back the hate and resentment I felt towards you all those years ago. I don’t need that sort of negativity in my life. Please, Dare I beg of you, leave me alone.”, she said.

“Rosanna, I..”, his words were cut short when Roselle came to take a stamp from Mmesoma's desk. She muttered a cold greeting to both of them and left.

“Alisdare Dwayne Shaw, please. Leave me alone.”, she put in and walked away.

Alisdare sighed and wished she’d listen to his side of the story. Yes, it had all started out as a bet. But he fell in love with her, hook, line and sinker. He didn’t plan it and he didn’t know when he did but he did. When he slept with her that night, it wasn’t just sex he made love her. By the morning, she was gone and she didn’t want to see him again. He wished he could go back and redo everything.

Rose was shocked when she got Ose’s text. She hadn’t been expecting him to reach out after the book launch incident. Her shock grew when he asked to meet up with her at a café the first met. What did he want to tell her? Was he going to let her down softly? Or was he going to reciprocate her feelings? The former seemed more like it. He had a girlfriend right? She wouldn’t go. She’d rather not hear him reject her to her face.

She had to face her job and stop daydreaming about Ose. She picked up a memo she needed the receptionist cum typist to work on. She left her office and bumped into her namesake in the corridor.

“Rose, why are you skulking outside my office?”, Roselle asked.

“Im sorry. I wanted to see you.”, Rosanna answered.

“Can you walk and talk? I’m kind of busy.”, Roselle put in and started walking ahead.

“Ok.”, Rosanna answered and walked to catch up with Roselle.

“So?”, Roselle asked.

“Um, I was wondering if I could get a transfer to our Ikoyi office.”, Rosanna put in softly.

“May I ask why?”, Roselle asked.

“Um, it’s kind of personal. I’m sorry but I really need it.”, Rosanna answered and Roselle stopped right I front of the reception.

“What is it with you rich kids and being so entitled? What makes you believe Felicia doesn’t want the Ikoyi office to be closer to her husband and son? Or that Linda who is pregnant doesn’t deserve it? You’ve only been here for what? Two weeks? Three? I don’t know?”, Roselle barked.

“Actually, five.”, Rosanna interrupted.

“Do I look like I care? Cause I don’t! Rather than asking for a transfer that you don’t deserve, you can get back to the work you’re paid to do. I want the final draft of The Deep on my desk by two. Just because your father owns the company doesn’t mean you can go and come like you please. If that’s how Sizzle was being run, there might have not been a company left for him to buy. Now, get back to work.”, Roselle ranted.

It was then Roselle and Rosanna noticed their audience – Alisdare, Ose, Mmesoma, Mr. Koko and Mr. Amaechi.

“You can clear out your desk.”, Mr. Amaechi put in when she was done.

“Sir, I..”, Roselle stuttered.

“Sir, I believe there is a perfect explanation for this. Why don’t we just listen to Miss. Pepple's side of the story.”, Mr. Koko intervened.

“Yes, sir. I’ve been sloppy at my work and Miss. Pepple was just setting me straight.”, Rosanna explained quickly.

“Is that how she scolds all members of staff or just those affiliated to management?”, Mr. Amaechi asked.

“Its how she scolds everyone. Even authors.”, Ose quickly added.

“Who might you be?”, Mr. Amaechi asked.

“This is our newest author, Mr. Lawrence. He’s the writer of one of our fastest selling novels.”, Mr. Koko explained.

“Well, Miss Pepple, your employment status is still tentative. I’ll discuss with Me. Koko.”, Mr. Amaechi said and led the way to Mr. Koko’s office with Mr. Koko following him sheepishly.
Rosanna looked from Dare to Ose and to Roselle and left the reception in embarrassment. Mmesoma snuck to her desk slowly thankful she didn’t get caught for leaving her duty post.

As for Tinu, she is one of the most complicated Characters I've ever written. But let's not forget she's been through a lot, especially at the hands of Dele. I don't blame her for severing ties with him. She could have cut him off totally.

Well, there's no way to differentiate them. If you read the Rose into the context, you'd know which Rose is in the scene.

Or I could try using their full names- Roselle and Rosanna.

Seyifunmi couldn’t help but grin at Dele’s reaction. Alisdare had been her classmate back in Yale while she was doing her first bachelor’s program in Business Administration. They had been close buddies till he broke the friend code. He had asked Rose out behind her back and all that on a dare. He not only took her virginity but also left her heart shattered when the truth about the dare came to light.

Rose had eventually gotten over and she’d die before she allowed him back into Rose’s life. But Dele didn’t know this and seeing him act so possessive and jealous was so entertaining. He had been quiet since they left the cinema but his demeanor spoke volumes He was over the top jealous and that only meant one thing. He was serious about her.

“I actually enjoyed the mousse cake. It was really good.”, she said breaking the silence.

“It was. So, Alisdare and you?”, he asked. It took everything in her not to laugh.

“Yeah. We were friends. Really close friends.”, she said mischievously.

“So, did you guys date?”, he asked.

“Um, no. We didn’t. He was interested in my cousin, Rose. They dated but long story short, he was a really big jerk and he broke her heart. He wants her back or so he says. She sighed and hoped whoever it was wasn’t on an embarrass Rose mission. She put a bookmark in the manuscript she was going through and left the bullpen. She walked to the reception and met the temporary receptionist, Mmesoma talking to a man.

She could identify that gait and physique anywhere. It belonged to the man that stole her heart, took her breath away and swept her off her feet. He made her fall in love with him and give her all to him. She had given him her heart, her soul and her body. But it was all a joke to him, the subject of a hundred dollars bet. It all meant nothing to him. She was just the subject of a bet and nothing more. Bile rose to her throat as she remembered. She couldn’t face him. Not after what he did. What did he even want? To win another bet? She wasn’t interested.

She was about turning to return to her office when a smitten Mmesoma called her name. She cringed and turned to face them. She knew she would forever hate Mmesoma and hoped her time would be up soon. She plastered a fake smile on her face and walked closer to them. She was going to breeze in and out of this meeting.
