When there are computer science and software engineering degree holders with certificates in security and good knowledge of cyber security. That's the problem with tech when they say anyone can work in tech this allows those with connections to get tech jobs they are not qualified for. ProgrammingRe: How Hackers Ruined A Disney Employee’s Life After He Downloaded AI Photo Tool by MindHacker9009(m):
It was a game mod he downloaded containing malware. And to know he was a software development manager at the time, then questions should be asked as to how he got to that post?

The breach was facilitated by the employee downloading a game mod containing malware, specifically an Information Stealer. This malware was able to capture credentials and access Slack, where the employee was logged in on their compromised machine. The absence of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for the password vault provided the attackers with unfettered access to a wealth of sensitive information.

So how did this happen? A classic piece of Trojan horse malware that, apparently, was packaged up with a mod for BeamNG, a popular game often seen in social media clips that is basically about all kinds of vehicle physics and crashing things. This "mod" was downloaded by a Disney manager of software development on their personal computer, which also had access to Disney's Slack channels (a popular corporate messaging system). Once the hacking group was in, it perpetrated a second hack on the same employee through an unknown method, and began downloading everything it could. The Disney employee eventually noticed and managed to block further access, but only after all of the above data had been stolen.

You keep showing in all your comments that you are still a kid in programming.

Let me lecture you about jQuery and React:
jQuery is used for manipulating the actual DOM while React does the same thing but with the Virtual DOM.
So you need to know that they both do the same thing but in a slightly different way.

Globally: Over 31,000 companies across various industries have implemented jQuery Mobile, with a significant presence in the insurance and financial services sectors.
These are serious organisations using jQuery Mobile and have not allowed script kiddies to come and start using all these kids stuff like React for their applications that will only cause unnecessary bugs and issues for them.

You have only been doing kids stuff with jQuery that's why you don't know that with jQuery you can build and generate reusable UI like with React and the other latest front-end framework and libraries that have many bugs and just added unnecessary overheads that leads to complex projects failing.

You cannot compare React with Angular because Angular is a Framework while React is just a JavaScript library like jQuery that is better than React.

This forum and many other high-traffic websites proves that you don’t need a fancy modern framework to handle millions of users. jQuery, when used properly, is lightweight and efficient for many cases.

Why This forum Works Just Fine with jQuery
No unnecessary complexity – No React, no Vue, no build tools, just a fast-loading website.
Performance over hype – jQuery is lightweight compared to frameworks that ship hundreds of KBs of JavaScript.
Optimised for speed – Run faster than these bloated modern framework nonsense.
Low maintenance cost – No constant dependency updates or breaking changes from modern frameworks.

Revealpanda:
Lol, No need to call you a kid.

The fact you don't understand jQuery is just a utility library for JavaScript tells me all I need to know about you.

jQuery is just a shorthand form for manipulating the DOM

It's basically the Tailwind of JavaScript.

From the very beginning u started comparing jQuery with React I knew u didn't know what you're talking about.

No organisation on earth uses jQuery to build mobile Apps 😂

Anyone with intermediate level knowledge of JavaScript can get a hold of jQuery in a day whereas React will take u weeks or even months to grasp.

You compare React with Angular, Svelte, Vue or NextJs not jQuery.

The only thing I like about jQuery is the ease of creating animated effects using JavaScript instead of typing long vanilla code
ProgrammingRe: C# Means C++++: Four Times The Power Of C++ by MindHacker9009(op):
Any time I reply you the more you know you are very clueless.

Facebook Messenger: In 2020, Meta rewrote Messenger as a fully native iOS app, moving away from React Native, significantly reducing its codebase and improving speed.
Facebook App: Meta has shifted away from React Native, back to native development for performance-critical sections.
Instagram: Initially adopted React Native but later scaled back its use, prioritising native development for performance improvements.

I can list more.

React library was first released to competed with jQuery which was king and still king of the front-end libraries today.

And for your information jQuery Can Be Used for Mobile Apps
jQuery Mobile – A framework specifically designed for building mobile-friendly web apps using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

jQuery inside a react app is wrong, because React and jQuery have different approaches to handling the DOM.

You and all the small small boys on this forum should be begging me to lecture you on programming instead of arguing with the programming master.

Revealpanda:
Honestly the more I engage u the more I realize how clueless you're.

Why are you comparing React and jQuery as if they solve same problem?

You just said the aim of knowing how to program is to make more money Yet you're having issues with REACT which is heap and leaps incomparable to jQuery that's basically just a shorthand for writing functions to manipulate the DOM.

Bro React have evolved and is now used to build mobile Apps.

Opay and PalmPay were built with REACT native.

Why on earth you comparing React with jQuery? 😂

You can even decide to use jQuery inside a react app if you want... Like they're totally different thing.

U main issue with React here is you arguing React has bugs as if jQuery is bug free.

Your last line your saying you write more code with React as compared to jQuery.

If you're building a full scale web app you'd eventually write lesser code using React due to it's reusable components and multiple packages

All your arguments here tell me a few things:

1. You're a script kiddie with very limited knowledge in the SWE field.
2. You're comfortable living in the past and unwilling to move along with new technologies
3. You're not ready to learn.

Keep it up
SWE is more about code modification and reuse, only to write new code when needed thereby being able to delivery a working application on time that meets the requirements of stakeholders and not about learning all the latest front-end frameworks filled with bugs and used by script kiddies like you for projects that ends up not being able to deliver what the user wants and the project gets scrapped.
If this forum was using React, it's bugs they will be using all their time to fix instead of making good money like they are doing now with jQuery.

This is React for you:
State Management Complexity
React's built-in state management (useState, useReducer) is simple but doesn't scale well for large applications.

Fast-Paced Ecosystem
The ecosystem changes frequently, with updates introducing breaking changes or requiring refactoring.
Performance Issues with Large Applications

Excessive re-renders and improper state management can lead to performance bottlenecks.
Virtual DOM diffing, while optimized, can become inefficient in complex UIs.

Boilerplate Code
React requires significant setup and configuration for state management, routing, and data fetching.

Writing less code is better and only use vanilla JavaScript if needed. Software development is for making money and not for writing more code. ProgrammingThe Rising Tide Of Data Leakage In Nigeria: A Cybersecurity Crisis In The Making by MindHacker9009(op): 9:12pm On Mar 14, 2025
Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation and a burgeoning hub for digital innovation, is grappling with a growing cybersecurity crisis: data leakage.

As the country races toward digital transformation—evidenced by widespread mobile penetration, a thriving fintech ecosystem, and ambitious government digitization initiatives—the specter of compromised personal and financial data looms large. From the unauthorized sale of National Identification Numbers (NINs) to breaches affecting millions of citizens, Nigeria’s data protection landscape is under siege. As a cybersecurity analyst, I see this as not just a technical problem but a systemic challenge that demands urgent attention from individuals, organizations, and policymakers alike.

The Scope of the Problem

Data leakage, where sensitive information is exposed or stolen due to inadequate security measures, has become alarmingly common in Nigeria. In recent years, high-profile incidents have underscored the scale of the issue. For instance, a 2024 investigation revealed that sensitive personal data, including NINs and Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs), were being sold online for as little as ₦100 (approximately $0.06 USD). This wasn’t an isolated breach but a symptom of a broader failure in data stewardship. Reports indicate that in the first quarter of 2023 alone, over 82,000 accounts were compromised, a 46% increase from the previous quarter, positioning Nigeria as one of the most breached nations globally during that period.

The consequences are dire. Exposed data fuels identity theft, financial fraud, and even physical crimes like kidnapping, where criminals exploit addresses and personal details. The economic toll is equally staggering, with global estimates suggesting that data breaches cost businesses millions annually—a burden Nigeria’s economy can ill afford as it navigates inflation and currency instability.

Root Causes: A Perfect Storm

Several factors converge to make Nigeria a hotspot for data leakage. First, there’s the issue of lax cybersecurity practices across both public and private sectors. Government agencies like the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) oversees vast databases, yet incidents suggest vulnerabilities in their systems or those of third-party partners. While NIMC has denied direct breaches, the presence of citizen data on illicit websites points to weaknesses in the ecosystem—whether through insider threats, poor vendor oversight, or inadequate encryption.

Second, Nigeria’s rapid digital adoption has outpaced its regulatory and enforcement frameworks. The Nigeria Data Protection Act of 2023 was a step forward, aiming to safeguard personal information and impose penalties for breaches. However, implementation remains inconsistent. The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) reported investigating 17 major breach cases in 2024, but with over 1,000 complaints received, the scale of the problem far exceeds current capacity. Fines and sanctions exist on paper, but enforcement is often undermined by resource constraints and, in some cases, corruption.

Third, public awareness is alarmingly low. Nigerians frequently share sensitive data with banks, telecoms, and even fraudulent websites, often unaware of the risks. Phishing attacks, ransomware, and social engineering thrive in this environment, exploiting both individuals and underfunded organizations that can’t afford robust defenses.

Read also: The most significant cybersecurity threat facing the tech ecosystem today

A Case Study: The NIN Debacle

Perhaps the most glaring example of data leakage in Nigeria is the exposure of NINs, a cornerstone of the country’s identity management system. In 2024, it emerged that even the NIN of a high-ranking government official was purchased online for a trivial sum, spotlighting the vulnerability of a system meant to unify and secure citizen data. NIMC has maintained that its databases remain intact, suggesting that leaks stem from external sources like telecoms or banks. Yet, this defense only highlights a deeper issue: the lack of a cohesive, secure data-sharing framework across entities handling citizen information.

This incident isn’t just embarrassing—it’s a national security risk. Criminals armed with NINs, BVNs, and addresses can impersonate individuals, access financial systems, or worse. The absence of a centralized, fortified data infrastructure leaves Nigeria exposed, with each agency or company operating as a potential weak link

The Broader Implications

Beyond individual harm, data leakage threatens Nigeria’s digital economy. Fintech companies, a bright spot in the nation’s tech landscape, rely on trust to onboard users. Breaches erode that trust, potentially stalling growth in a sector that has attracted billions in investment. Similarly, as Nigeria pushes for e-governance, citizens may hesitate to engage with digital platforms if they fear their data isn’t safe. Internationally, the country risks being seen as a cybersecurity liability, deterring foreign investment and partnerships.

Solutions: A Multi-Pronged Approach

Addressing Nigeria’s data leakage crisis requires a concerted effort across multiple fronts:

1. Strengthen Cybersecurity Infrastructure: Government and private entities must invest in advanced encryption, regular security audits, and real-time threat detection. Zero-trust architectures—where no user or system is inherently trusted—could significantly reduce insider threats and external breaches.

2. Enhance Regulation and Enforcement:The NDPC needs more funding and autonomy to enforce the Data Protection Act effectively. Penalties for negligence or wilful breaches should be swift and severe to deter lax practices.

3. Public Education: Awareness campaigns can empower Nigerians to recognize phishing attempts, secure their devices, and demand accountability from organizations handling their data. Simple steps like two-factor authentication could thwart many attacks.

4. Centralized Data Governance: A unified, secure framework for collecting, storing, and sharing citizen data across agencies would minimize vulnerabilities. Blockchain technology, for instance, could offer a tamper-proof ledger for identity management.

5. Private Sector Accountability: Banks, telecoms, and tech firms must be held to higher standards, with mandatory breach reporting and transparent remediation processes. Collaboration between sectors could also foster shared threat intelligence.

Nigeria stands at a crossroads. Its digital ambitions are laudable, but they rest on a foundation weakened by data leakage. As a cybersecurity analyst, I see this as a clarion call for action. The tools and knowledge to secure Nigeria’s data exist—what’s lacking is the will and coordination to deploy them at scale. Without swift intervention, the country risks not only economic losses but the erosion of public trust in its digital future. The time to act is now, before the next breach exposes yet another layer of this unfolding crisis.
