According to El País, FIFA have sent a message to Spain's football federation, RFEF, stating that government interference in elections will not be tolerated.


Spain's involvement at the World Cup in Russia next summer is in danger. According to El País, FIFA has sent a letter to RFEF, Spain's football federation, stating that government interference in the election process of its next president could see them suspended as a member meaning they would not be welcome at the World Cup.

According to El País, a proposal by the Higher Sports Council to hold new elections would be seen as interference in the running of the federation. Every country's football federaion has to be run independently and while the propsoal of new elections, sent by the Administrative Tribunal of Sport to the Council of State has not been issued a response or decision, FIFA have acted.

In 2008, FIFA already threatened Spain with expulsion from the Euros, which they eventually won, due to a confrontation between Jaime Lissavetzky and Ángel María Villa, the disgraced former president of the federation.

Sepp Blatter said, at the time, "the FIFA emergency committee can meet in six hours and suspend Spain, but we want to avoid that" Blatter said that the organisation he presided over was "like the United Nations but with more power."

Club chief Andre Zanotta acknowledged yesterday that they cannot close the door on Arthur's desire to play in Europe, although they dream of him continuing in Porto Alegre until 2020 at least. I think PSG have struggled to handle intense pressure when needed most and also their defense, tho but teams lack defensive effort at the moment but you just gotta give it up for Madrid, they come ahead of psg

I watched the last PSG UCL game against Bayern and I can clearly see the lack of defensive effort from Alvez and Kurzawa, I won't talk down on PSG, they've been looking great since the season start but we cant judge them with the Ligue 1 games, Bayern is the only serious team they've met this season, Ancelotti made e defensive mistake in the first leg but Bayern got it all done in the second leg. PSG are a good team with a good strike force but I still believe Madrid will get it done.

Leganes-Real Madrid to be played on February 20 or 21

The Liga fixture, corresponding to week 16 of the domestic calendar, was postponed due to Real Madrid's participation in the Club World Cup.


Monday’s Champions League draw and the subsequent decision on times and dates for the European last 16 fixtures also allowed the Spanish football authorities to amend their own calendar and slot the postponed match between Leganés and Real Madrid at Butarque into place.

The game was originally scheduled for week 16 of the domestic fixture list, to be played this weekend, but was put back due to Real Madrid’s title defence at the Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi. With Real now scheduled to play their home leg against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday February 14, the match against Leganés will take place the following week, either on Tuesday 20 or Wednesday 21.
