The Brazilian superstar expressed delight after they were handed a group bereft of an African side, most importantly the Super Eagles Neymar has revealed that he his ‘happy’ Brazil avoided all five African teams, especially Nigeria in the Russia 2018 World Cup group stages. The Selecao will slug it out with Serbia, Costa Rica and Switzerland in Group E of the global showpiece. And the PSG star who admitted they got tough oppositions, believes ‘African teams like Nigeria’ would have been an absolute nightmare. The fleet-footed Neymar noted the physical and energy-sapping approach of a typical African side as his main reason. “We [Brazil] have to be at our best to get a good result particularly in our first game of the tournament. The teams in our group are difficult to play against,” Neymar told media. “I am happy it wasn’t a group where we had to play against African teams like Nigeria. They run a lot and are very physical in their approach. We are no doubt still up against strong sides at the World Cup.” However, the Super Eagles were handed the Selecao’s eternal rivals, Argentina for the fifth time in the finals while Croatia and debutant Iceland complete up their Group D setup. Real Madrid have decided to make a winter signing Jose Angel Sanchez, the general director at Real Madrid, met with club president Florentino Perez on Monday afternoon to discuss plans for the January transfer market, with it decided that Los Blancos will aim to spend some money to strengthen their squad. The meeting, which lasted around two and a half hours, was called to discuss the LaLiga champions' recent poor form, with injuries and transfer policy said to be two of the main reasons for the stuttering start to the 2017/18 season. Perez has not previously splashed much cash in January and there have even been some relative flops to have arrived at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in this month, such as Emmanuel Adebayor, Antonio Cassano and Lucas Silva, something the current directors want to avoid a repeat of. Real Madrid know that players may cost more in winter than they would in summer, but they appear willing to take that risk and to do what they can to try to bring in a goalkeeper, such as Kepa Arrizabalaga, and a forward, such as Mauro Icardi or Timo Werner - although the latter would be ineligible for the Champions League.
