"This lady was rushed to the specialist hospital Yola last night by students of the female hostel of the Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola Campus with her throat slit and knife wounds over her face and body.

"This sad event took place yesterday 9th November at the Adamawa State Polytechnic Yola Main Campus in the evening hours.The lady who has been identified as Witness by name was said to have been dating a young man who was a student of the same institution (State Polytechnic Yola Campus) but returned to rewrite a pending carry over course.

"On the fateful day, eye witnesses say he called her several but to no avail as she did not pick or return her calls thus enraging her estranged lover. The lady was seen to alight from another man's vehicle with polythene bag containing bread and some raw eggs. upon sighting her, her enraged lover ensues into a heated argument with her regarding her whereabouts. passers by who knew them prior to that time knew it was common place for them to have such verbal exchange thus ignored the two lovers to carry on their arguments.


"Things took a turn for the worse how ever when the man pulled out a knife and slit her throat as though slaughtering and animal. her screams for help thus attracted male folk around the area to fight him off but he had inflicted much wounds both on her throat and face. he quickly ran to the school gate threatening to stab the security man if the gate was not opened for him

"The lady was rushed to the hospital for medical attention. She is currently under stable condition and the lover has been apprehended and arrested."

Mr Kalu Chima who is the proprietor of Emeka Mortuary, Okunmi Community, located at the suburbs of Ikom, Central senatorial district, Cross River State, has revealed the weird side of the job and how they go through battles with occultists and members of some secret societies before their corpses were embalmed in his mortuary.

Mr Kalu Chima, whose mortuary is located along Ikom-Calabar highway, confessed to NDV that dead bodies, especially those of occultists and members of secret societies “do give them a tough time while being embalmed because their bodies have been ‘fortified’ with spiritual and occultic powers.

“In such cases, we have to pet and persuade them by talking to them to allow the chemicals to penetrate their bodies, but if they still refuse, we have to employ our own spiritual force and of course, power pass power and we can then embalm them,” he disclosed. According Mr Kalu, he learned the trade in Onitsha General Hospital, Anambra state, and he has gotten an understanding that some dead bodies can be really “powerful” such that they do not allow others to lie close to them and he was always careful when attending to such bodies.

Mr Kalu said: “Some powerful people do not allow other dead bodies to lie close to them, so in the night, they will remove other bodies near them and dump them far from where they are or they would go to an isolated place and lie there – all dead bodies are not thesame, some are very powerful, this is why we knock before we enter.

A Vanguard reporter traveled from Calabar to Okunmi to meet Mr. Chima following some strange reports about corpses in his mortuary established in 2010. A few months after it was established, there was an unsubstantiated story about a man, whose car broke down close to the mortuary late in the night and he decided to search for a place to spend the night, he went to a house that he saw light inside and knocked the door. A security guard reportedly came out and gave him a mat to sleep in a section of the room, the next morning wehn he woke up, he discovered that he slept among corpses and he instantly fainted. Another case was that while conveying a corpse, the mortician occasionally walked behind the ambulance, while the corpse drives the van and the bizarre-There are other weird stories but he said that some are true and that the others are just mere tales.

Mr Kalu said: “The corpses may be dead, but they still possess some spiritual powers to protect themselves. We have about 100 corpses right now and 18 abandoned ones, but we keep the place open, both day and night, without any security and anybody, who attempts to do anything funny by going there to steal or do anything has himself to blame”. He, however, described as false claims that some people sell parts of dead people or have s*xual intercourse with them.

OFFICERS from Ogun State Police Command have arrested two Fulani herdsmen for allegedly killing another herdsman, whose cattle they were trying to steal, at Itadodo area of Ofada in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement, disclosed that the two men, Abdulahi Anaruwa and Mohammed Suleiman, met the deceased, Garuba Mohammed, while he was grazing his cattle with two of his kinsmen, and lured him into a nearby bush, where they killed him with machetes, on October 28.

Oyeyemi said luck, however, ran against them when a motorcyclist (names withheld) saw them and alerted the people of the area, who in turn called the police. Oyeyemi said: “The DPO of Owode Egba, CSP Sheu Alao, led his men to the scene and the two suspects were promptly arrested. “The commissioner of police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department, SCIID, for further investigation. “The CP further warned that crime and criminality will have no place in Ogun State and that those who are bent on committing crimes will have the ever-ready police command to contend with.”

Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), one of the notorious militant groups operating in the oil-rich region has said that at least 20 soldiers have died during the military operation “Crocodile smile”.

The group in a statement signed by its spokesman Brig Gen Mudoch Agbinibo and made available online offered their condolences to the families and Mr. President, Muhammadu Buhari, C-In-C of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on the soldiers who drowned in the current military operation.

The statement read: “Mr. President from available facts, the untimely deaths of these four (4) fine soldiers in the creeks of Bayelsa and another sixteen (16) that was recorded during the first four days of the exercise along the River Ethiope, in Delta state but was earlier covered up is nothing more than act of murder.”

The militants claimed that the soldiers died due to negligence, administrative greed and corruption within the military constructed and perfected by the ascendant All Progressives Congress political class who have refused to sincerely embrace dialogue but instead resort to kinetic means of battling insurgency in the oil-rich region.
