Ppl should stop buying land/property for sentimental reasons, such purchases should be approached from the angle of deliberate investment, not just becos othr ppl are buying.. Then this decision to buy must be accompanied by a set/decided budget!

Rufex, what u can do greatly depends on where u are located, looking at the top
needs in ur community/environment and personal suitability for istance, if you stay in lagos, you could at starting a cycle delivery biz, a dry cleaning biz, barbing saloon biz, etc

bear in mind that knowing what kind of biz to start is a first step
u need to ensure u are ready to make it suceed and for that, u should invest in
improving urself - biz training, mentoring, etc

Please put ur plans on paper & regularly review, it'll make things clearer & ur destnation easier2reach, do not just rely on what uve thot about/ discussd, put it on paper - usualy called business plan & its not difficult to make..

Well, first things first...
Truth be told, if you are going to invest N500,000.00 of your hard-earned money
into a business, you must be willing to devote some time and attention to it.
Why?
1) It is new and new businesses, like new born babies, must constantly be attended to and fed.
2) New businesses require attention as anything could happen at any time, requiring immediate decision.
3) Owner's initial input & effort determines how long the business will last and
helps groom a good manager to cover for you when you are unavoidably absent.
4) Owner's input determines the daily success rate of the business.

Having said that, in reply to your question, you might want to look at
- a barbing/hairdressing salon
- recharge card sales
- phone/it equipment sales
- food/refreshment sales

delishpot: Dear nairalanders, some months ago my aunt bought a small shop in the market as investment and also to sell stuff. Problem is, after paying for the purchase of the shop(she wanted to rent at first) she couldn't raise much money to buy and sell what she wanted to sell big time(hygen products and cosmetics) the shop is located in an area where majority of sellers seLl provission and food stuff. Just wondering what unique item she can sell at that location considering the mindset of people who shop there with 50 thousand naira. She cannot bet or do LR she wants to know what she can buy and resell and start from there to grow.

One of the main things to consider is if this shop is located in a high traffic area...
If yes, it will make what she chooses to sell there easy to move, which means regular turnover.
Now since she is in an area dominated by shops selling provision & food stuff, why not stick to similar things
e.g. the pure water idea isn't bad, though it could be expanded to include other drinks..
also, children lunch boxes, bags, rubber sandals...
maybe hair products and hair decor pieces (ruffles, nets, bands)...

a biz plan for an ngo is not different from that for an organization; &
it is not advisable to be religious in a circular document.

i think what databoy247 gave is a simple format for proposal writing,
which is valuable for any ngo.
