It seems to me that the a great measure of negative/destructive critics in Nigeria are here on nairaland. Any post...their fingers are quick to type abusive and insulting statements. Funny enough, that school would be opened and nothing UK government can do abt it. Don't you know that this vision is God's vision. Anything God is fully part of will transcend human reasoning/logic and awes the natural mind. When God bless a man, you are picking calculator to calculate. He will be busy enjoying more blessing and you will be here raining curses and insult. Your insult on nairaland don't count. I will advise you to get educative materials published by him, rather than envying him and cursing him. Practicing the instructions would change your life for good. Many have seen results and seemingly insurmountable circumstances turning around for good. And these people are happy to give back to God. True and unrepentable givers in churches or places around the world don't complain abt giving. Do your research abt that. Moreover who told you Oyedepo amass offerings for himself(see ignorance). Do you think the church leadership is made of touts? No! Educated, highly profile individual and men with the fear of God. Oyedepo has stop collecting salary from church coffer since late 1990s. How does he get his money? That's why he is serving a living God, He takes care of His needs and wants. There are people who have seen big time results, without compulsion or been coerce to give, giving cheerfully to the man of God...and trust me they are always blessed in return. But nairaland see such people as fools. If you called a man who is getting blessed by practicing kingdom principle for finances a fool because he gives to a true man of God. hmmm. You won't see such faithful givers raining curses on nairaland. Never! There are people in His church that are richer than him...but you won't know on nairaland because they are not public figures. If you are not student of the word of faith according to the epistles in the new testament...I do not expect you to understand this. The cheapest thing to do in life is to criticize results. Few people make things happen, cos getting results is expensive and costly. So many criticize cos it is a cheap thing to do. Go out there a get tangible result instead of always taking your time to see the next victim of your abuse on nairaland. People with Pull Him Down(PHD) syndrome will not finish on nairaland, but don't be part of the band wagon. When you see a man making waves in his own field, why not go on your kneel and tell God that same grace is release upon you to succeed greatly in your own field, so u will become the envy of the world. Don't call him a thief or conman because he is not. A word is enough for the wise 4 Likes 1 Share |

Nairaland / General / The Madness Called Bokoram by mjay5: 1:20pm On Oct 18, 2014 |
Boko Haram followers are said to be influenced by the Koranic phrase which says, "Anyone who is not governed by what Allah has revealed is among the transgressors". The sect promotes a version of Islam which makes it "haram", or forbidden, for Muslims to take part in any political or social activity associated with Western society. This includes voting in elections, wearing shirts and trousers or receiving a secular education. Boko Haram regards the Nigerian state as being run by non-believers, even when the country had a Muslim president. The group's official name is Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad, which in Arabic means "People Committed to the Propagation of the Prophet's Teachings and Jihad". But residents in the north-eastern city of Maiduguri, where the group hitherto had its headquarters, dubbed it Boko Haram. Loosely translated from the region's Hausa language, this means "Western education is forbidden." The charismatic Muslim cleric, Mohammed Yusuf, formed Boko Haram in Maiduguri in 2002. He set up a religious complex, which included a mosque and an Islamic school Many poor Muslim families from across Nigeria, as well as neighbouring countries, enrolled their children in the school. But Boko Haram was not only interested in education. Its political goal was to create an Islamic state, and the school became a recruiting ground for jihadis. In 2009, Boko Haram carried out a spate of attacks on police stations and other government buildings in Maiduguri. This led to shoot-outs on Maiduguri's streets. Hundreds of Boko Haram supporters were killed and thousands of residents fled the city. Security forces eventually seized the group's headquarters, capturing its fighters and killing Yusuf. His body was shown on state television and the security forces declared Boko Haram finished. But its fighters regrouped under a new leader, Abubakar Shekau, and stepped up their insurgency. In 2010, the US designated it a terrorist organisation, amid fears that it had developed links with other militant groups, such as al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, to wage a global jihad. Boko Haram's trademark was originally the use of gunmen on motorbikes, killing police, politicians and anyone who criticises it, including clerics from other Muslim traditions and Christian preachers. The group has also staged more audacious attacks in northern and central Nigeria, including bombing churches, bus ranks, bars, military barracks and even the police and UN headquarters in Abuja. Amid growing concern about the escalating violence, President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in May 2013 in the three northern states where Boko Haram is the strongest - Borno, Yobe and Adamawa. It draws its fighters mainly from the Kanuri ethnic group, which is the largest in the three states. Most Kanuris have distinctive facial scars and when added to their heavy Hausa accents, they are easily identifiable to others Nigerians. As a result, the militants operate mainly in the north-east, where the terrain is also familiar to them. The deployment of troops drove many of them out of Maiduguri, their main urban base and they retreated to the vast Sambisa forest, along the border with Cameroon. From there, the group's fighters have launched mass attacks on villages, looting, killing and burning properties in what appeared to be a warning to rural people not to collaborate with the security forces, as residents of Maiduguri had done. Boko Haram has also stepped up its campaign against Western education, which it believes corrupts the moral values of Muslims, especially girls, by attacking two boarding schools - in Yobe in March and in Chibok in April. It abducted more than 270 schoolgirls during the Chibok raid, saying it would treat them as slaves and marry them off - a reference to an ancient Islamic belief that women captured in conflict are part of the "war booty". It made a similar threat in May 2013, when it released a video, saying it had taken women and children - including teenage girls - hostage in response to the arrest of its members' wives and children. There was later a prison swap, with both sides releasing the women and children. At the same time, Boko Haram has continued with its urban bombing campaign, targeting Abuja on 14 April, when at least 70 people were killed in an explosion near a car park and on 2 May when 19 people died. This shows that not only does Boko Haram have a fighting force of thousands of men, but also cells that specialise in bombings. Source: BBC.CO.UK |

The federal government on Sunday exonerated the President of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor of blame in the involvement of his aircraft in the $9.3m controversial arms deal in South Africa. The Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan (Public Communication), Dr. Doyin Okupe, told Religious Affairs correspondents in Abuja that Oritsejafor, who is also the founder of Word of Life Bible Church, is innocent and has no business with the said deal. Most Nigerians do not also respect the sensibilities of other people. Oritsejafor is the President of CAN and head of all Christians in Nigeria who is representing at least 50 per cent of people in this country. When it comes to a man like that, people should be cautious and circumspect", Okupe advised Source: http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/-9-3m-arms-deal-presidency-clears-oritsejafor/191112/ |

Nairaland / General / Many Fear Dead At Ibadan(molete) Inferno by mjay5: 11:24pm On Oct 11, 2014 |
No fewer than sixty people were burnt beyond recognition this evening in Ibadan when a fuel tanker fell at the popular Molete Under-bridge, splashing its highly inflammable content on all objects in sight with an accompanying inferno. The accident that occurred around 9 pm left scores dead and many people injured with varied degrees of injury. When the Street Journal visited the scene of the accident, there was commotion as many people were still trying to find their wards and relatives that just passed though the area. Eye witness accounts have it that the fuel tanker that was coming from Challenge end of Molete had a break failure and the driver subsequently lost its control before it rammed into a pole under the bridge, resulting in the fire disaster. It was gathered at the scene of the accident that about dozens of Okada riders and some commuters were caught up in the ensued fire disaster. Traders by the roadsides particularly, the bread sellers were roasted like bush meat. All the adjoining streets had a fair share of the disaster as casualties figures are expected to rise as many people were caught unawares in their shops. A combined team of security operatives and the state emergency agencys were on ground to ensure that the number of casualties was drastically brought under control. Men of the state fire service were also sighted at the scene of the fire disaster rescuing people that were trapped while the entire area was condoned off to ensure smooth rescue operation by the emergency agency personnel. Men of the Nigeria Police were also on ground to maintain law and order. The leader of the team who spoke with The Street Journal on condition of anonymity said the policemen’s presence was aimed at ensuring that miscreants did not take advantage of the incident to wreak havoc on innocent people. He said his men were at the scene of the accident to prevent looting and allied nefarious activities of area boys in the neighborhood. An eye witness who simply identified himself as Wasiu explained to The Street Journal that many youngsters were under the bridge discussing the sad outcome of the today’s football match between Nigeria and Sudan which Nigeria lost by one goal to nil when the accident occurred. He said he counted no fewer than fifty burnt bodies that littered the roads. He said that he narrowly escaped death as he jumped inside the gutter to avoid the rampaging inferno that trailed the spilled over fuel. Politics / Argument Over Shekau's Death (pix Included) by mjay5: 11:28am On Sep 23, 2014 |
Nigeria and Cameroon were, yesterday, locked in an argument over who killed Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau and where he was killed. In a rare public show by the Cameroonian army (Armee Camerounaise), photos of Shekau were made public alongside a statement claiming he was killed during a cross-border raid deep inside Nigeria by its military. A Cameroon military source, according to Cameroon Concord, said on Sunday night that Shekau was killed following an aerial bombardment of his hideout inside Nigeria. On the other hand, the Nigerian Army is also laying claim to the same feat but without photographic evidence yet. The Nigerian Army said its soldiers might have killed Shekau in Konduga, a town some kilometres away from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. According to a report posted on its twitter handle, DHQ said yesterday that, “there was no raid whatsoever in any part of Nigeria’s territory in pursuit of terrorists as claimed in some reports allegedly quoting Cameroon military authorities. “All operations on-going in the environs of Konduga and all associated border locations within the country are completely being undertaken by Nigerian troops.” Reportedly, the Cameroon armed forces since Sunday have been in serious combat against thousands of Boko Haram fighters trying to enter Cameroon via Fotokol from Gamboru Ngala in Nigeria. This came amid confusion over Shekau’s identity as military experts are trying to ascertain whether the dead ‘Shekau’ was Isa Damsaka or Bashir Mohammed, who are both top commanders believed to be posing as Shekau. Meanwhile, efforts to exchange some of the abducted Chibok school girls with Boko Haram prisoners have flopped again. The Nigerian military claimed that its troops might have killed Shekau on September 17 during a desperate attempt by the sect to capture Konduga as part of their plot to eventually march on and capture Maiduguri. “It is getting more certain that the terrorist commander who has been mimicking Shekau in those videos is the one killed in Konduga on September 17, 2014, the military revealed. The military, however, cautioned that “the process of confirming the dead body we have is the same as that character who has been posing as Shekau is ongoing. He is definitely a prominent terrorist commander. I don’t want to say anything about this yet, please.” The military source insisted that the resemblance between Shekau and the corpse in their custody is too striking to be a coincidence. They cited his facial marks, beard and teeth in addition to the recovery by Nigerian troops of some of the armoured vehicles and Hilux SUVs that had featured in previous videos of the prime suspect. The source assured that the Defence Headquarters will soon address the nation after full investigation of their latest discovery. The counter-claims by both countries have raised some posers: Who actually killed Shekau and where was he killed and how authentic are the claims? Confusion over Shekau’s identity Indeed, confusion reigns supreme over Shekau’s identity. Strident efforts by the Nigerian military high command to establish the true identity of the top Boko Haram leader who was shot dead last week, continued in earnest yesterday, even as the video of the slain man was obtained exclusively by Vanguard. The military, it was learnt, had been cautious in making a formal announcement that Shekau had been killed as a similar declaration last year, was instantly countered by the sect, following the emergence of another ‘Shekau’ in several video posts on the Internet. Vanguard gathered from top security sources that although a bearded man, who resembled Shekau in several material details, was shot dead in Konduga last week, the military was not sure whether the slain man was Isa Damsaka or Bashir Mohammed, who the security agencies claim had been mimicking the real Abubakar Shekau, said to have been killed since June 2013. The apparent fear over the death of Shekau, in the battle for Konduga, it was also learnt, has caused some disquiet in the Boko Haram camp, especially as the video of the dead commander surfaced on the internet yesterday. In the six-second video, the critically wounded ‘Shekau’ was seen lying on the ground writhing in pains as men in military uniform and civilians surround him with some voices saying, “Waste that man! Waste that man!” However, the Australian negotiator, Dr. Stephen Davis, who claims to have worked closely with Abubakar Shekau, said yesterday that he was convinced that the real Shekau was killed since June 2013 by the Nigerian security agencies. Shekau killed June 2013 — Davis Davis, in a mail to Vanguard, said that Abubakar Shekau was killed around June 19, 2013 while they were close to concluding a peace deal on the Boko Haram insurgency. Davis said: “I continue to hold to the position that Shekau was killed on or about June 19, 2013 when we were close to concluding a peace deal. Videos immediately prior to that time were produced using a “fake” Shekau. The fake Skekau is Isa Damsaka. It was confirmed to me by Boko Haram that he was killed in the recent military engagement at Konduga. “Most members of Boko Haram have never seen Shekau. They believe what they have been told that Shekau is their leader. The real Shekau is dead. The Shekau the world has been seeing in videos is a “fake” and Boko Haram fighters have been fooled. They have followed blindly. “The message of Boko Haram purifying Islam is also fake. When the Boko Haram leaders broke the news of Shekau’s death in June last year, they said he had diverted from the Holy Qu’ran through the kidnappings, rapes and beheadings. The fake Shekau continued these atrocities under the patronage of the sponsors and escalated their terrorist activities. Shekau is dead but they will try to find another to perpetuate the lie. “This is the time for Boko Haram commanders to come forward and release the captive girls. There are Chibok girls and many other girls who have been kidnapped. Let commanders come forward and release a large number of girls as a first step towards a peace dialogue. “I have no doubt the sponsors will try to prevent any commander releasing the girls as part of a peace deal. The pressure must therefore be put on the sponsors so the commanders can come forward. “Shekau was killed on or about June 19, 2013 as we were concluding a peace deal. I have spoken at length to several senior people who were present. The Shekau impersonator recently killed was Isa Damsaka. Boko Haram leaders have been using him for quite some time to make their propaganda videos. The script is written for him by another commander which he then reads as he delivers his message on-camera.” How Shekau was killed Details of how Abubakar Shekau, the impostor and leader of the Boko Haram terrorist group was killed in a shoot-out with Nigerian troops in Konduga on Wednesday, September 17 emerged, yesterday, with military sources disclosing that he met his waterloo in an ambush reminiscent of the type the sect had been using to hack down Nigerian troops. Vanguard gathered that during the first attack on Konduga, where hundreds of insurgents were taken unawares and killed after over seven hours of fighting with several of their colleagues, arms and ammunition captured, the military commanders strategically urged his captured members to send a message to Shekau that they (insurgents) have killed the troops. Before the captured insurgents were urged to make the contact and deliver the message, the military commanders had promised them that their co-operation would play a role in the level of punishment to be meted to them after the battle, hence they felt reassured. Also, the captured insurgents had disclosed that Shekau usually moved in a convoy of cars painted in military colours while he sits in a MOWAG Armoured tank with Boko Haram inscription on its front. When Shekau was contacted, his captured men spoke to him in Arabic, assuring him that they had taken over Konduga, thereby giving him the positive signal to proceed from Sambisa Forest. To convince him further, some of his men that were captured were asked to sing the victory song in Kanuri language they normally sing at the background. Having convinced himself that the messenger was his chief courier in such situation and the message was authentic, he and his followers made for Konduga, heavily armed with anti- aircraft weapons, general purpose machine guns, several AK-47 rifles and other IEDS’. However, on entering Konduga town, he and his followers were encircled by strategically placed and heavily armed Nigerian soldiers. Immediately he contacted the messenger and discovered that something was amiss, he ordered his followers to start shooting in all directions. This spurred the Army Commanders to give the directive to open fire. When he discovered that the fire power of the Nigerian Army who used both infantry and artillery weaponry was overwhelming, he jumped out of the MOWAG and made to escape. But Nigerian soldiers spotted him and opened fire on him, inflicting serious injuries on his legs. It was learnt that he also received bullet wounds in other parts of his body as he was said to have bled to death. Military sources had on Sunday night disclosed that Nigerian troops scored a strategic victory in the current battle against terrorists operating in the North-East on September 17. Swap of Chibok girls with Boko Haram prisoners flops again Meanwhile, it has also emerged that efforts of the security agencies to free the 219 Chibok girls from their Boko Haram captors has failed again. Vanguard learnt from top security agents that the deal to free the girls, who have spent 162 days with their abductors, had broken down almost irretrievably as a result of the inexplicable decision by the Boko Haram side to ask for impossible conditions. One of the conditions put down by Boko Haram at the last minute was that the Federal Government must account for and produce 18 of its top commanders said to have been captured and detained in several detention facilities across the country. Although the government was willing to free some of the Boko Haram detainees in exchange for the girls, a top government source, who was privy to the discussions, said that many of the Boko Haram commanders could not be traced. The top government official said: “Boko Haram commanders suddenly demanded an equal man-to-man exchange instead of the agreed total girls for 16 Boko Haram prisoners. Also, of the 16 prisoners, not all of them could be traced by the government side. “The exchange of the Chibok girls with the Boko Haram prisoners was to take place at an agreed location in Yola, the Adamawa State capital. But the true position of things as of today is that the talks have broken down.” Answering a question, the government official said that Nigeria opted to bring in the International Committee of the Red Cross as a facilitator because of its neutrality and competence in facilitating such exchange of prisoners in many parts of the world

Religion / Pastor Chris Denies Adultery Allegation And Threatens To Sue Journalists by mjay5: 7:44am On Sep 04, 2014 |
Though not denying the growing divorce scandal surrounding him, the head pastor of Christ Embassy Church, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has threatened legal recourse against journalists publishing stories about him and his wife, Anita's divorce. The pastor, who spoke through his lawyer, Mr. Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), called the accusations of adultery a "false and malicious" attack against him and the church. "The attention of our client, Rev. Chris Oyakhilome, and the church has been drawn to the wave of false, malicious and fabricated stories being published in the print and electronic media about his person, the church and a matrimonial cause between him and his wife," his attorney stated. Sharply criticizing the recent coverage of the divorce proceedings, which the statement did not refute, the release claimed that publishers went so far as to fabricate claims that he had committed adultery against his wife, Anita. These contradict her claims that the leader of Christ Embassy Church had indeed been unfaithful during their "terribly degenerated" marriage, something she disclosed through counsel to Premium Times earlier Wednesday. Characterizing the media's coverage of his wife's efforts to divorce him as "complete distortion of the facts in the pending proceedings in the United Kingdom", the statement cited the coverage as "selfishly motivated" for political and financial advantage. Oyakhilome's counsel further said the media's coverage was engineered to bring him and the church shame and ridicule, though his wife was the person who aired the allegations against him. Earlier today, Wednesday, Mrs. Oyakhilome even told Premium Times, through counsel, that the marriage had "terribly degenerated". The statement also acknowledged freedom of the press, but quite contradictorily cautioned that further action will be taken to safeguard the image of the church and the pastor if coverage continued. "Be warned therefore that unless the concerned media houses desist from further publishing words and stories which are false and damaging of our client's reputation and the church, we shall, without further recourse to the concerned publishers, promptly embark on appropriate legal machinery with a view to protecting our client's reputation and that of the church." |
