Stay at home mum Vs Working mums...has anyone ever felt judged for being a stay at home mum?
Family / Re: Calling All Stay At Home Mums! by mkbeau: 4:13pm On May 20, 2016
I totally understand where you are coming from...I gave up work too to stay at home full time, can be isolating though. You are doing great job ...well done wink

I must admit I miss having conversations with my peers, all I ever get is the constant demands, and tantrums from the children...lol! But I wouldn't change it for the world I accepted the reality and took every day as it came...of course trying as much as possible to enjoy too...is that possible? LOL! smiley

Hi peeps, I started this thread to initiate a conversation on being a stay at home mum...what are your experiences? It started off a bit difficult at first, but once I got the hang of juggling routines and the home it became easier. By the way would love to know the experiences of all Naija mums in the diaspora as well as in Naija. So to begin with....

Did you find it a challenge?
How did you cope with having to give up work to look after young children?

[quote author=armyofone post=44919554]Thanks girl. Please do you mind sharing the side effects...i know everyone is different but go ahead please.

Here it goes...tenderness of the mammary gland (trying to be discreet her...lol!) it comes and goes, decreased libido, slight mood swings-dont worry you will know when this happens, increased discharges and sometimes period pains.

Mirena was the best option for me, I had previously used the metal coil which made my time of the month a lot heavier than I had anticipated and was constantly on iron tablets which never ever brought my iron levels up to scratch. Furthermore suffering from anaemia had affected my hair and nails it became fragile and thin and my hands were always white in appearance. It wasnt nice being tired all the time so I had to take a radical step.

Ladies, was told my iron is low even though i have been on iron suppliment....and the doc is planning to have me go on BC (Mirena or nexplanon)
I'm not really a fan and it's so confusing and draining.
I'm so getting twisted with the side effects I read about (weight gain, mood swing, depression) etc
I eat healthy so not sure what is going on.

EfemenaXY, Chillisauce, Kimoni, damiso, Edwife etc

Hi there, I had the problem of being anaemic, despite taking iron supplements they only worked for a bit, so I had the Mirena coil inserted, it has helped me a lot. It reduces the blood flow of your periods dramatically in fact your energy level will return quickly. If you have any questions concerning the side effects feel free to ask. wink

Am I right to assume she does it every time? If that is the case please see a paediatrician.

hello people, how is the weekend
so my son is teething and has refused to eat anything. just breast milk and water. the tooth is out now but he has refused food for d past one week. he also has catahrr. i have been giving him vit c multivitamin bco n piriton syrups. but things don't seem to be improving both the loss of appetite n catahrr.
the catarrh disturbs his sleep at night n I try to use otrivin.
pls how long averagely does loss of appetite cos of teething last for. d boy don lean o n I've tried everything I know he still won't eat. I really feel frustrated. last time he brought out a tooth he was only picky in food for four days n that was all.
experienced mamas pls advice me o.

Offer him his favourite food and see whether he would eat, introduce juices for example orange juice even fizzy drinks it would provide the sugar needed for energy and electrolytes to deal with dehydration as well as the water. Loss of appetite can vary from one child to another so if you're really concerned that he is loosing too much weight and possibly lethargic is best to see the doctor. wink

Hi wonderful mothers on nairaland,i am a first time mum with a 2 month old baby girl who arches her back very often and it is getting me really worried.I would like to know if it is normal for babies to do that regularly.Thank you

You need to elaborate on what you mean by arches the back. Is is after feeding?
Health / Re: One Month Old Baby, Drinking Milk, Ideal??? by mkbeau: 7:01pm On Mar 26, 2016
You can use formula milk, there is nothing wrong with it, they can be used in the case of very hungry babies. Exclusive breast feeding sometimes can be a hindrance if you have to be away from your child, so do what is practical for you. By the way the formula milk are designed babies from birth all the way to 1 year. Make sure you check that the formula is appropriate for his or her age.

I hope that helps wink

Pls mamas I need effective potty training tip before I go crazy( not from Google o). She always wants to sit on the potty but won't go, Not once and it's been over 3months now. She just turned two and anywhere she sees a toilet she'll request to go.
I give her plenty drinks plus water. She can sit on the potty for two hours but as soon as she gets down from the potty she'll pee on the floor or in her diaper. I've run out of diapers and ain't in the mood to buy more.
I blame myself, I should have started earlier.

Dont feel bad about it, and its not your fault! All babies are different my girls learnt by the time they were 3 years old. Continue with what you are doing... I now its expensive but have you tried pull-ups? Mix both potty training with pull-ups during the day, continue to gage with your child by asking her whether she wants to go to the toilet or not. With time she will be able to associate the feeling of going to the toilet with the potty, all this work will eventually pay off! wink

Health / Re: Skin Tags by mkbeau: 7:10pm On Mar 24, 2016
Unfortunately there is not much that can be done about skin tags. They are normal and are not dangerous to the health, however, the best way to remove them is by minor surgery. Contact your local dermatologist.
Health / Post-partum Issues And Advice. by mkbeau: 7:12pm On Mar 23, 2016
Hi there I have started a thread about post partum issues with the aim of providing information and advice on dealing with motherhood. For example many women are not aware on how to look after their bodies following child birth and seek direction from the wrong places which often leads to being mis-informed.

If you have any concerns please put it forward so that we can discuss, please note this is open to all woman who are mothers or mothers to be.

Subjects that I could be discussed includes the following:

How to loose weight after having a child
Nutrition
Hair loss also know as post partum hair loss
Gynaecological issues and any other medical concerns relating to child birth.
Discussing the myths about pregnancy and birth.
