PoliticsConduct Drug Tests For Public Officials – Emir Of Kano by mmb(op): 6:13am On Dec 19, 2017
The Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi ll yesterday said a law should be enacted that will compel traditional rulers, governors, ministers, senators and other public office holders to go for a drug test.
The emir was speaking the opening of a two-day Senate Roundtable on Drug Abuse Epidemic in Nigeria, held in Kano.

“Every senator, emir, and the governor should go for a drug test and if you are on drugs you should respect yourself and resign because you are not fit and competent to hold that position,” he said.
He said, “when we begin to set this example, the younger ones will understand that if they engage in drug abuse, they will certainly limit their opportunities of becoming leaders.”

The traditional ruler said, “the police, army and other paramilitary officers and men should not be drug addicts.”
He said Nigeria is facing a great danger and that conversation about drugs should be at the forefront of national conversation.
“This roundtable will be the beginning of national conversation leading to a national action plan, leading to concrete results,” he said.
“The political establishment is the fundamental problem and the values on which our politics are established are values that have sink into the rest of the society,” the traditional ruler said.

Sanusi added that “it is profitable for you to be a drug addict, to be a thug to be of the personal protection team of a politician, you get paid to kill people, you get paid to attack opponents you get paid to abuse anyone and you are given the drugs and this is something that is well known.”
“If a senior politician, a governor or a senator who has access to protection by the police or DSS, but besides that, he will seek protection from thugs who are on drugs. How many of your colleagues do you know who have thugs on their payroll?
“Who buy drugs and give same to thugs so that they can protect them or attack their political opponents even though they can have access to policemen, DSS by virtue of their positions?

“We see governors move around and in their convoys openly you have area boys on drugs with arms, and then you stand up and said you are there fighting drugs, what are you fighting?”
The emir said the prevalence of drug abuse was a sign of failure on the part of our governors.

“The first problem we have is that we are not even ready to implement the laws that we have. We are talking about new law about criminalizing and decriminalizing but what have we done with the existing laws,” he said.
N4.1bn drugs destroyed in Kano - Ganduje
The Kano State Government said yesterday it had destroyed illicit drugs worth N4.1 billion confiscated in the state in 2017 alone.
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje who revealed this at the roundtable on drug abuse said this was part of the renewed fight against drug abuse in the state.
Ganduje, who was represented by his deputy, Prof Hafiz Abubakar, said the drugs were confiscated in different parts of the state after being imported by unpatriotic medicine dealers.
He disclosed that the state government had also confiscated another consignment of illicit drugs worth N1 billion which would soon be destroyed.
The governor said the menace of hard drugs in the state was beyond the capacity of the state government to contain.
“The fight against drug abuse is an issue that requires active Federal Government’s intervention as it is beyond the capacity of the state government,” he said.
He said as part of its efforts to tackle the problem, the state government had set up a task force to deal with it, pointing out that the committee was doing its best.
“Even in 2012 during the administration of former Governor, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, a task force was set up for it and was given all the necessary support to work.
“But as I said, the fight is far beyond the capacity of the state government. There is a need for all stakeholders to join hands together to fight the menace,” he said.
According to him, the state government had recently expanded the rehabilitation center for the victims of drug abuse in the state.
Open drugs market in Kano

Daily Trust observed that Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi Market has been an open market where drugs dealers are conducting their businesses in the state. The successive government had made several efforts to regulate drug business in the market but all in vain.
It could be recalled that the immediate past administration of Dr Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso had one time closed all drugs medicine stores in the market in its effort to regulate the business but later the market was re-opened.
Kano state police command on its part had set up various community committees within the state metropolis especially areas large number of drugs addicts with a view to reducing drug abuse among youths in the state.
Senate goes after drugs importers, distributors

On his part, the Senate President Bukola Saraki has vowed to tackle the menace of drug abuse from its root by going after importers and distributors of drugs.
This is even as the Senate begins a roundtable with state governments, local governments, traditional rulers, the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria and NGOs, to tackle the menace.
In a series of tweets on his twitter handle @BukolaSaraki, Saraki stressed that the tackling the interplay between dirty money and drug importation and distribution would help tackle its prevalence.

The Senate president, therefore, vowed that the roundtable will send a clear message to all Nigerians about its resolve to tackle drug abuse.
“The #DrugAbuse epidemic has been of a particularly virulent nature, touching all social strata and afflicting families and young lives. Not even nursing mothers are spared; future generations are already endangered.

“The stark reality is that so many Nigerians are shadows of their former selves because of drugs. This is intolerable. Furthermore, the very dangerous interplay between dirty money and drug importation, distribution and abuse must stop.
“We need to better understand where the strengths and weaknesses of our drug enforcement agencies lie, in order to be able to take measures to strengthen them,” he said.

Stay in a hotel in Ajao Estate for the night. You wont get buses at 10 pm neither is it safe.
The next day take a bus to Oshodi... ( bare in mind that Oshodi is a construction zone now) you'd have to ask a lot of people and walk quite a distance to find where the vehicles to Abeokuta.
I prefer to take a bus to Ketu from Oshodi.Cross the pedestrian bridge to the other side. Ketu garage is about 10 metres from the bridge. Buses and cars to Abeokuta.
thanks bro.

No it is not.
I guess you are flying in from outside the country. Well, I will advise you pass the night in a hotel and set out for your trip the following morning.

Incase you are considering affordable hotel, I don't know how plenty your luggage are, if not more than a backpack n a travelling bag. Walk out of MM premises and board the commercial bus going to 7/8 and tell the conductor you wanna drop at AJAO estate junction. Take a bike going inside the estate, tell him you are going to "Babs Abosede"...While riding, just look on your left/right, there are hotels there that are not that expensive BUT I can't remember what they charge again. Have a pleasant stay
but dont you think is better i go to Ojodu Berger, since i am going to abeokuta?
