The National Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE) has fabricated an industrial Tiger-Nut processing machine to boost the nation’s agricultural sector. Mr Kayode Ibidapo, Chairman of NATE, Lagos Branch, made this known during the association’s 2023 award ceremony, induction of new members and the unveiling of the industrial tiger-nut processing machine at FIIRO, Oshodi, Lagos. The theme of the event was, “Technological Advancement and the Nation’s Economic Growth. Ibidapo said that the machine was fabricated with raw materials gathered from Nigeria, and could be used for extracting high-quality milk from both tiger-nuts and coconut. According to the chairman, NATE, as an association, keeps inventing new machines to ensure technological improvement in Nigeria. “Instead of us to be importing machines, why can’t we produce these machines in Nigeria? We have all the raw materials we need to make these inventions. “What we need to know is that machines fabricated or made in Nigeria are easy to repair, because all the spare parts are available here. “Also machines made in Nigeria can be sold here to boost the country’s Gross Domestic Product,” Ibidapo said. He said that as an association, they had invented so many machines ranging from egg incubator, coconut de-shelling machines, rice destoner and castor oil de-husking machine among others. Ibidapo said that these indigenous machines could save farmers the stress of spending so much on imported ones, since the ones made in the country were cheaper. On the newly inducted members, he urged them to stand tall and be of impeccable character. Ibidapo said that the inductees needed to use technology to create employment and phase out unemployment among graduates. He also urged them to key into the compulsory continuous professional developmental programme to enhance lifelong learning. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 115 members were inducted during the ceremony. In her speech, Dr Jummai Tutuwa, the Director-General, Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi (FIIRO), commended the association on its new invention. She said that NATE members in FIIRO had continued to distinguish themselves as worthy ambassadors by helping to translate research findings into ready-to- invest prototype equipment. “NATE’s contributions are even more urgently required now in the nation’s drive for rapid commercialisation of research results through pilot plant production and equipment fabrication. “This, I believe, is the only way to fast-track the development of Small and Medium-scale Enterprises (SMEs) in our country, and also to make research outputs become relevant to the needs of the society. “Although, FIIRO has worked with NATE on equipment fabrication, training of technicians, technologists and exhibitions, this relationship with NATE has grown over the years and has become mutual,” Tutuwa said. The FIIRO director-general noted that the Institute still wanted to partner with NATE in the areas of vocational training of welders, fabricators, artisans and technicians using the facilities available in the institute. She said the partnership would have a multiplier effect on the nation’s economy.

The Leadership Initiative For Youths Empowerment(LIFE) a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO),h has begun a three-day sensitisation workshop on Gender Based Violence and human rights for no fewer than 32 young women in Lagos State. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the sensitisation workshop held at Envougue Plaza, Okota, Lagos State. Gender-based violence (GBV) is violence committed against a person because of his or her sex or gender. It is forcing another person to do something against his or her will through violence, coercion, threats, deception, cultural expectations, or economic means. Chibogu Obinwa, a Facilitator and Gender, Development and Civil Society Specialist, in her introduction, urged young women to be catalysts for change, and ask salient questions that can further improve the quality of life for women and human rights. According to her, gender roles are propaganda made popular by the society, hereby limiting women by extension this keeps away from exploring and attaining their individual potential. “Human rights is an entitlement for every human being, but it does not encapsulate the daily challenge of the modern woman; as women, we face a lot of limitations, inequalities. “As young minds, we should understand what laws are in place to protect us as women and how to get justice. Speaking up as an agent of change is necessary in our immediate society. “Speak up against Domestic Violence, Female Gender Mutilation, Emotional and Verbal Abuse, inequality and poor representation during policy formulation. “Women are susceptible to a lot because culture and religion make it difficult for women to ask questions that can liberate them,” she said. Ogechi Stephens, Programme Officer and also one of the facilitators, told the participants that vulnerable individuals in the society should be protected. “Vulnerability affects both young and old, even a woman in her forties is still vulnerable to all sort of abuses, especially minors who can’t speak for themselves. “When we as a society come together to frown at illegality and injustice, then the vulnerable ones will be protected. They have rights just like every other person too. “There are levels to GBV, there’s physical violence, emotional violence, sexual violence and psychological and mental violence. We need to focus on the crime and stop shaming victims of these crimes. “Law enforcement agencies need reorientation; shame is one of the tools the society uses to silence victims. There are centers that take care of victims like Mirabel Center, Ireti Center and so many others. She further told participants to educate their families and friends, in the case of rape and that gathering evidence played more important role than emotions. “ Nobody prays for rape, but it happens. Ensure that the victim doesn’t bath; get them to get a swab of the body fluid from the rapist. “Often times people get emotional which is understandable but the court only deals with fact, to make the case easy, gather enough evidence,” she advised. On why there were no male participants, Stephens told NAN that there were other programmes for the foundation that focused on both men and women, including peace building. She, however, noted that young boys would also be educated about their rights and duties. Omolola Oni, the Media Coordinator of the NGO, also advised that people who had suffered from any form of abuse should seek help, “so they don’t end up hurting other people unconsciously”. “There’s a saying which says `hurt people hurt other people’. “Seek professional help or talk to someone you trust, confide in them, healing comes from sharing,” she said. Anuoluwapo Adegoke, a graduate and one of the participants, told NAN that she had learnt the need to speak up for herself and for others who had yet to find their voices. Ugochi Awujo, a Self Employed Graduate, said she learnt to ask questions about traditions and societal expectations from women. “Often times, women are told what they can and can not do, but now, I strongly believe that a woman can do and be anything that she wants as long as it’s not illegal,” she said. Deborah Irabor, a Student, told NAN that she has learnt the difference between sex and gender in the course of the training. “Sex means male or female; these are the biological differences between a male and a female, while gender is the perceived expectations of the society from us. “For instance a woman should be a homemaker, some women are not wired to be homemakers irrespective of what the society projects,” she said. NAN reports that the LIFE foundation has the mission to empower the youth, girl child and other vulnerable females on issues around GBV and human rights.

A Canada-based Nigerian singer, Haliyah Hales, says women need to adopt a more proactive and optimistic perspective to thrive in the music industry. Haliyah, whose real name is Ifedolapo Haliyat Arowolo, said women need to work hard and work smart. The singer, who just released her latest music video titled ‘Pressure’, said women in the music industry were struggling compared to their male counterparts, mostly because of how people receive female artistes. “I believe a lot of female artistes like myself can do better when it comes to their music by never giving up and always keep pushing. “I will say it is much more challenging and easier for male in the industry to network; to meet people based on their talents; they don’t have to necessary deal with discrimination sexually. “Other people just believe that the female artistes do not stand the test of time in the industry. “So, it is hard for them to invest in female artistes mostly because they feel when the female artistes get married, have kids, it is harder to make money,”she said. Haliyah also talked about how female artistes in the entertainment industry had to work ten times harder than their male counterparts. “Generally, in the music industry, there are more males than females; so it is a male-dominated kind of industry. “The very few females that are there work like ten times harder just to be noticed; that’s why I say you have to always up your creativity at every point in time. “To be the best that you can do for your craft, do the things you’re supposed to do and believe in yourself, talent, dream and creativity. “Always be a step ahead, also do other things that can bring you money to promote your music without depending on anyone. “It reduces the risk of being abused or being sexualised especially when it comes to marketing and record label. I strongly will say to female artistes struggling out there to never give up,” she said. Haliyah Hales is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and model, who is also a registered nurse by profession. Haliyah is a Toronto-based independent artiste who sings in English and Yoruba; her music is a blend of Afrobeats, R&B, pop and hip-hop. Born in Nigeria, she harnessed her passion for singing at the very young age of eight years. She began composing songs and performing her songs for her family, friends and classmates after school hours. Haliyah became a sensation online after she released her single, ‘Whine Am’, which gained lots of attention in the media space and later spiced it up with her last sensational music video ‘Pressure’. The National Gallery of Art on Thursday collaborated with lecturers from the School of Art, Design and Printing Technology, Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos to showcase their art works. The exhibition was to mark the Art Fair Lagos event organised by the National Gallery of Arts. Speaking on the benefits of the exhibition, the Director General, National Gallery of Art, Mr Ebeten Ivara said the exhibition was a way of documenting the lecturers' works for posterity. Ivara said the exhibition was also a recognition of the impact of eminent scholars, adding that the art works will be projected for public viewing and appreciation. "This programme is a continuation of National Gallery of Art's efforts in bridging the divide between Town and Gown in visual arts practice in Nigeria. "There is this misconceived notion that art teachers especially at the tertiary level are basically concerned with theories and publications to further the advancement of their career. "That they are insulated as it were from the humdrum of studio practice. This I declare is a very wrong notion. National Gallery of Art can confirm that art scholars not only teach but are involved in active studio practice with many exhibiting on a regular basis both within and outside the country. "In our collaboration with Art Schools across the country, Natuonal Gallery of Art has been surprised at the productivity of lecturers and the students beyond imagination," he said. Ivara further commended the works of the lecturers which he described as fascinating when displayed during a collaboration with the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu and the University of Jos. "We are here today in continuation of our collaborative efforts with Art Schools in Nigeria. It is noteworthy that your esteemed art school predates Nigeria's independence. "Undoubtedly the event will more than ever before showcase to the Nigerian public the untiring efforts of the lecturers in keeping cherished tradition of turning out generation of skilled art graduates doing the nation proud both in the country and beyond," he said The Rector, Yaba College of Technology, Dr Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul, commended the lecturers of the School of Art, Design and Printing Technology saying that their phenomenon of apprenticeship is enviable. The Rector who was represented by the Deputy Rector, Academic, Dr Ismail Badmus said the act will mentor those coming behind to maintain professionalism. "I must applaud and thank the management of the National Gallery of Art for consistently, over many years, carrying the academia along in the quest to keep the issues of the Nigerian visual arts sector, on the front burner. "I am grateful for the opportunity of today's program, Art Fair Lagos will afford both the college community and the visitors around us to experience the vibrant art expressions of the lecturers of this great institution," he said. Chief Adebanjo Fasuyi, Fellow, Society of Nigerian Artists and a former Art Adviser commended the National Gallery of Art for living up to its mandate while he called for the establishment of art galleries across the federation. "In many ways, National Gallery of Art has lived up to its mandate as the chief promoter of Nigerian visual arts, especially through its promotion of Nigerian artists, both young and old. "National Gallery of Art has done this, through the organization of well packaged exhibitions and the production of high-quality publications. "It has also over the years, partnered with several higher institutions across the country, in a bid ro take the visual arts sub-sector to greater heights. "I am therefore particularly happy that today, the train of progress has berthed at the School of Art, Design and Printing Technology, Yabatech. "Today's event is special as it showcases the works of the artists who double as lecturers and key drivers of the school’s ability to impart artistic knowledge on younger generations," he said. The Chairman of the Occasion, Prof. Kunle Filani, Professor of Visual Arts and Aesthetics, African American University, Porto Nova said the event was a symbol of great standard. He said showcasing the art works is a reminder of the spirit of hard work and outstanding contribution to scholarship and practice of modern art in Nigeria by lecturers from the School of Art, Design and Printing Technology. "I congratulate the students witnessing this great event. This exhibits the dynamic efforts of the lecturers here and those in diaspora. "This exhibition is small but rich. it is my hope that as the students of this institution see the works of their lecturers on display, they will further be spurred on, to greater artistic exploits," he said. The event was in line with National Gallery of Art's collaboration with such Art Schools as: Department of Fine and Applied Arts, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria; School of Art, Design and Printing Technology, Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, Department of Fine and Applied Arts, University of Jos and University of Benin respectively

The Managing Director, LadyBenz Auto-Mechanic Ltd., Joy Obi, has attributed the short life span of vehicles in Nigeria to poor maintenance culture. Obi spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sideline of a seminar organised by the Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE) in Lagos. The theme of the seminar was, “Vehicle Maintenance (Routine and Major Maintenance)’’. She that it was important for vehicles to be properly maintained to enhance their aesthetics and guarantee optimal performance. She said that lack of vehicle maintenance was one of the major causes of accidents on Nigerian roads. Obi said that, unfortunately, many vehicle owners and commercial drivers use engines without adhering to manufacturers’ maintenance instructions, adding that an average Nigerian does not pay attention to such details. According to the auto-mechanic, most vehicle manufacturers specify the type of oil suitable for most engines, but to manage cost most people go for cheap oil, which can damage the engine. “Regularly performing oil change as part of your vehicle maintenance routine helps keep the engine properly lubricated, reduces frictions and wears. “Routine maintenance ensures that your vehicle operates at its optimal level, minimising breakdowns and maximising reliability. “It helps prevent issues that could lead to unexpected and costly repairs, keeping you on the road with confidence. “It’s also essential to maintain components such as brakes, tyres, and suspension systems for road safety,” Obi said. She added that by addressing minor issues early and adhering to recommended service intervals, one could extend the life of the vehicle. The auto mechanic stressed the need for vehicle owners to pay attention to the check engine light, also known as the malfunction indicator light (MIL), noting that it was one of the most common diagnosis lights found in vehicles. According to her, it illuminates when the vehicle’s onboard diagnostic system detects an issue with the engine or emission control system. Obi added that it was also necessary to pay attention to small details such as the front and rear glasses, brake light, the colour of the smoke from the exhaust pipe and the plugs. She said that all these work harmoniously to ensure the efficiency of any vehicle. The auto-mechanic also urged vehicle owners and commercial drivers to do regular car tyre pressure checks. She noted that this would make the vehicle balanced, as well as make the tyres to wear off evenly. Obi stressed that incorrect tyre pressure could lead to break failure, unstable movement of vehicles, as well as other problems that could lead to accidents. She said that most motorists are equally ignorant when it came to changing brake pads, adding that some waited till the brake was worn out before changing it. Obi urged vehicle owners and commercial drivers to imbibe the culture of regular vehicle maintenance to avoid break downs on highways. She also noted that considering the high rate of inflation in the country it was necessary to pay attention to vehicle maintenance to avoid spending so much money to repair it. Earlier, Chairman of NATE, Mr Kayode Ibidapo, said that poorly maintained vehicles were likely to consume more fuel. Ibidapo said that it was advisable for car owners to maintain their vehicles routinely to avoid spending so much money on buying fuel. He said that this was proactive thinking for vehicle owners, considering the current price of fuel.

The company made this known in a statement on Friday in Lagos. Biram Fall, Regional Manager for QNET Sub-Saharan Africa, said that three reports under fraud allegations had been filed against the company. He said the reports were filed on Nov. 1, 2022, May 4, and May 19, respectively. Fall explained that QNET had engaged a legal team to address the items in the reports and was fully cooperating with the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in the investigations on the allegations of fraud and money scams. “We take allegations of illegal or fraudulent activity very seriously and will take strong action against anyone found to be misrepresenting QNET. “We are actively working with local law enforcement agencies and government bodies to ensure the company is not misrepresented by parties intending to deceive consumers using the QNET brand. “On the three reports filed against QNET, we have transferred all documents required to prosecute the case and are in touch with authorities to combat negative allegations against the business,” Fall said. According to Fall, QNET holds its employees and distributors to the highest ethical standards, implements strict policies and procedures to protect customers from unlawful, fraudulent, or unprofessional behaviour. He noted that through collaboration with stakeholders, the company was actively working toward raising awareness and educating the public about identifying scams. He said the company had equally launched a highly successful anti-scam education campaign called “Mama Campaign” in 2022. Fall added that the comprehensive initiative utilised various media channels such as radio, television, social media, print media, and billboards to effectively communicate QNET’s business model and emphasise the warning signs associated with fraudulent activities. “QNET remains steadfast in its commitment to combat misrepresentation and empower individuals with the knowledge needed to distinguish legitimate opportunities from scams,” Fall said.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Dr Abayomi Arabambi has testified against Amuwo-Odofin reps member-elect at the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ikeja Lagos Dr Arabambi said that the Amuwo-Odofin House of Representatives member-elect, Mr Olawande George was never among the candidates sponsored by the Labour Party for the February 25th election. Arabambi who appeared before the Tribunal on June 10 said he was invited by the court to testify before the three- man panel in a petition filed by the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for Amuwo-Odofin Fed Constituency election, Prince Lanrewaju Sanusi, challenging the victory of Mr Olawande George at the poll. In a petition number EPT/LAG/HE/16/2023 filed before the first Panel led by Justice A. B. Abdullahi, Hon. Sanusi popularly called PLS is asking the Tribunal to declare him the winner of that election on the ground that the Labour Party candidate declared by INEC did not win the election and his candidacy is still in contention. Speaking with journalists outside the court after giving evidence to validate his position that Mr Olawande George's name was fraudulently included in the list of the candidates submitted before proceeding on appeal, Mr Arabanbi said, "I came to the court because I was supinal to appear before the court to give some facts about some judgement affecting the Labour Party and to tender some other documents. "I was invited by the court as the sole deponent for Labour Party in 24 states prior to the 2023 general elections. I was the one who was in charge of the primary elections for House of Assembly, House of Representatives and the Senate in those 24 states, so, it is in that capacity that the Tribunal has invited me to come and give evidence on certain infractions. "Let me first make it clear that I am not a member of the APC and I am not in court to represent APC, however, I am here to protect my image as the sole deponent", Arabambi said. He added that 15 names earlier submitted later became 27 miraculously. "There are some names that were not in the list of our candidates in the 24 states where I conducted primaries but were included by the former national chairman of the party in person of Julius Abure, especially in Lagos State. "It is true we went to court to get a judgement to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to upload the names of all our candidates across the 24 states on its portal. "It was later that I got to know that Abure in collaboration with our Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi had imputed some names when the case got to the Appeal Court. "When Abure wrote to INEC to obey the judgment of the court in uploading the names of our candidates, it was then 15 names now turned to 27 names. Not anly that 15 names changed to 27 names, they were also changing candidate from constituency to constituency. You will see somebody's name in Kosofe and later in Amuwo-Odofin, the same person will also appear in Oshodi/Isolo. "It was as a result of this that I then wrote a petition to the Inspector General of Police and the President of the court of Appeal that there are infractions in the names given to INEC contrary to the court of Appeal's judgement. "Consequently upon which I have to come and testify before the Tribunal those candidates that were not sponsor by Labour Party which include Olawande George. I have tendered all the necessary documents in respect of this," he said. In reaction to the development by Hon George Adegeye Olawande through his media aide, Mr Kingsley Nwanze, described the effort of Mr Sanusi to overturn the victory of Hon Olawande George as effort in futility. "Our attention has been drawn to a misleading statement circulating on social media platforms in respect to a document claimed to have been submitted to the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lagos for the disqualification of Hon George Adegeye Olawande. The purveyor of the said statement only exposed his ridiculous height of stupidity. "The statement further revealed the collective stupidity of the author and his paymaster. Sanusi will never stop exhibiting his uncontrolled desperation for a mandate joyfully reposed on Hon George Adegeye Olawande by the good people of Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency. "We have no doubt that Lanre Sanusi and his few paid supporters are still suffering the trauma resulting from Hon George Adegeye Olawande's victory. "Lanre Sanusi has admitted repeatedly and publicly that Hon George won the election but he has not stopped bothering himself with how Hon George became the candidate of the Labour Party. Please, what's the business of the All Progressives Congress and its candidate with the Labour Party? "This same pre-election issue Sanusi has taken before the Election Petition Tribunal but in his usual desperation he will never be patient and allow the tribunal to do the needful by reaffirming the mandate of Hon George Adegeye Olawande as the Representative for Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency. "We believe in the judicial process to deliver justice appropriately, so we are appealing to the good people of Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency particularly executives and members of Labour Party to remain calm as their mandate given to Hon George Adegeye Olawande is intact under the grace of God", the statement read. The sitting was subsequently adjourned till June 13 and 14 2023 for continuation. |

She said experts had agreed that investment in early childhood education was absolutely crucial for the future of the children and the development of the society as a whole. “This type of education should be made top priority by governments, policymakers and educational institutions worldwide. “The intellectual and emotional development of young children should be the focus of conversations on a global scale. “As a result, it is critical to ensure that children have all necessary forms of support to make them become valuable contributors to their communities. “Early childhood education is a main component of many successful educational systems around the world, and research has proven its significance in shaping a child’s cognitive and social abilities,” she said. The child care expert further stated that providing children with the right educational tools, support and care could lead to better academic performance in future. She said early education had the potential to produce lifelong learners who were more capable of adapting to changing environments, socialising with others and engaging in critical thinking. “Early childhood education has the potential to reduce poverty, unemployment rates and social tensions. “This is why all countries must place higher value on early childhood education. Every child deserves a strong and positive start in life and early education is the key to realising this. “Early childhood education as a global priority is necessary for bridging gaps in education, reducing economic inequality, breaking down social barriers and promoting overall global prosperity. “A strong focus on early education will allow children to thrive and grow into successful and engaged members of their communities,” she said. According to Popoola, investing in early childhood education is no longer an option but a necessity, to create a better future for the children and the world.

NGOs play a vital role in giving back to the society and addressing various social, environmental, and humanitarian issues. NGOs are organizations that are independent of government control and operate on a non-profit basis. They are driven by a mission to serve the public and they often focus on areas such as poverty alleviation, education, healthcare, environmental conservation, human rights, disaster relief, and community development. Women For Liberty Africa is one of NGOs as this. This kind of support can include providing free health talks and checks, education and vocational training, food and nutrition assistance, as well as access to basic necessities. The General Manager, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, has advocated for the nerd for a noiseless Lagos through reduction of vehicular noise. The GM, who made this advocacy at the eight edition of Noiseless Lagos Campaign, said "Noise pollution is the undesirable persistent sound resulting from various human activities, especially in cities. "According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), noise pollution can have a significant impact on our physical and mental health, as well as our overall quality of life. "With the increase in population and the need for transportation within cities, the increasing vehicular use has become a major source of unpleasant noise and often overwhelming aspects of modern urban life. "The sound of cars, trucks, buses, and motorcycles can be heard virtually everywhere, from the bustling city streets to the quietest suburbs". Noting that one of the most obvious problems with vehicular noise is its sheer volume, she said trucks, cars, and motorcycles can produce noise levels of up to 100 decibels. This kind of noise, she added can be incredibly stressful and can cause hearing damage if a person is exposed to it for prolonged periods. "It can also interfere with communication, making it difficult to have conversations or hear important warnings. In a megacity like Lagos with several uninformed drivers about the hazards of noise pollution, their indiscriminate use of vehicle horns makes the situation considerably worse. "In addition to its physical effects, vehicular noise can also have negative impacts on our mental health. It can create a constant sense of agitation and frustration, which can lead to anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders. "This is evidenced in the high level of annoyance, road rage, mood swings, and other negative behaviors exhibited by road users in Lagos. The constant barrage of noise can make it difficult to relax or concentrate, and disrupt sleep patterns, leading to decreased productivity, sleep depravity and associated health problems, and an overall sense of unease for others in their respective homes and offices. "Studies have shown that even low levels of noise can interfere with sleep quality and duration, leading to fatigue, irritability, and decreased cognitive function. On the environment, vehicular noise can disrupt the natural habitats of animals and birds, leading to a loss of biodiversity that makes a city serene," she said. On what LASEPA has done thus far she said: "We at the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), having identified the negative implications of vehicular noise on the health and the natural environment in Lagos State, conducted our 8th awareness campaign on Noiseless Lagos on 10 May 2023 at the Johnson Jakande Tinubu (JJT) Park, Alausa, Ikeja. "Through the campaign, in collaboration with the Lagos State’s Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Transport, we brought together a wide section of society to provide the necessary awareness of the need to minimize vehicular noise through behavioral changes and enforcement of noise regulations. "The team of audiologists we engaged for the campaign conducted random free hearing tests for the public participants at the event. The result indicates that out of the 32 people tested, 25 percent suffer from noise-induced hearing loss. About 22 percent of the people have general hearing loss not due to noise, and another 22 percent have normal to mild hearing loss. "Those with wax occlusion constitute 16 percent, while those with normal hearing make up the remaining 15 percent. This indicates that one in four persons in Lagos potentially suffers from hearing loss due to noise pollution. A closer look at the noise-induced hearing impairment indicates this could be occupational. "For example, noise-induced hearing loss in Lagos could be as high as 78 percent among textile industry workers, and 8.3 percent among the most exposed brewery workers. "According to the US Centre for Disease Control (CDC), an estimated 12.5 percent of children and adolescents aged 6-19 years, and 17 percent of adults aged 20-69 years have hearing impairment resulting from excessive exposure to noise globally. Additionally, in the United States, the CDC estimated that about one in four (24 percent) adults suffer from noise-induced hearing loss in 2017. "Finally, it is important to reiterate that vehicular noise is a significant problem that affects both our physical and mental health, as well as our environment. I am committed to work with the relevant regulatory agencies in Lagos to deploy regulatory measures to reduce noise levels, such as improved traffic management, better insulation, and the use of quieter vehicles. "On the part of LASEPA, I will continue to advocate behavioral changes, greater awareness and enhanced enforcement of noise-reduction regulations to ensure we build a quieter, more peaceful Lagos State. Let us support LASEPA to build a noiseless and more productive Lagos."

The symposium was based on the premise that the successful attainment of the African Union's Agenda 2063 objectives is premised on the sustainable peace and security on the continent. Thus, this requires coordinated efforts on all fronts across the continent. Most of the programmes and associated outcomes of the continent's developmental agenda are linked to its ocean waters. The Symposium thus sought to explore various aspects of the Blue Ocean Economy and the potential roles that the navies of various countries can play, in conjunction with public and private sector entities, in ensuring security on the continent's ocean waters.

OYE’S NAME STILL ON INEC’S WEBSITE: DANGERS OF A TRANSACTIONAL COMMISSION Okoro Chinedum Benedict National Administrative Secretary, APGA On Friday March 3 2023, Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim of the Supreme Court presiding over the New Naira Redesign Suit stated as follows; ‘’The Rule of Law upon which our democratic governance is founded becomes illusory if the President of the country or any authority or person refuses to obey the orders of courts. The disobedience of orders of courts by the President in a constitutional democracy as ours is a sign of the failure of the constitution and that democratic governance has become a mere pretension and is now replaced by autocracy or dictatorship.” (2) The above words from the Supreme Court informs why Prof. Mahmood Yakubu’s delay in recognizing Chief Edozie Njoku as the National Chairman of APGA as ordered by the Supreme Court deserves public scrutiny. (3) On March 24, 2023, Hon. Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba, JSC, the Lead Justice (Suit No. SC/CV/687/2021) in Page 27 of the Judgment stated; ‘That the name of ‘’Chief Victor Oye’’ mentioned and set out in Page 13 of the Judgment delivered by the Court on 14th October, 2021 in Appeal No. SC/CV/687/2021 be DELETED and REPLACED with the name of ‘’Edozie Njoku’’ so that the sentence on Page 13 would now read correctly read; ‘It needs to be stated at this point that the dispute being who should be the Acting National Chairman of the 1st Respondent, APGA and whether the Chairman, Edozie Njoku was validly replaced are within the confines of the internal affairs of the 1st Respondent which is not justiciable.’ (4) Clearly, the above Judgment shows that the National Chairmanship position of APGA has never been in contention. The dispute between the Jude Okeke (former Deputy National Chairman South) and Alhaji Garba Aliyu (former Deputy National Chairman North) was who should be the Acting National Chairman of APGA, which matter arose amongst elected executives of the Party from the National Convention held at Owerri on May 31, 2019. (5) Similarly, Hon Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun (in Page 7 of her contributory Judgment) clarified and affirmed that the lawful executives of the APGA were those that emerged from the Owerri Convention. I quote her; ‘The Party Officials were elected at its National Convention held on 31st May 2019 at Owerri.’ (6) Upon Chief Edozie Njoku’s purported suspension as the National Chairman of APGA, the Jigawa High Court upheld his wrongful removal and affirmed Chief Jude Okeke (former Deputy National Chairman-South) as the Acting National Chairman of APGA on June 30, 2021; and subsequently he was recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The Commission’s recognition made it possible for Jude Okeke to present the name of Hon. Chuma Umeoji, as the Party’s candidate for the Anambra Governorship election on July 16, 2021. (7) Furthermore, Hon Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun (in Page 7 of her contributory Judgment) stated; ‘that the trial court held that the Applicant (Chief Edozie Njoku) had been lawfully removed as the National Chairman and that Chief Jude Okeke was properly appointed to fill the resultant vacancy pending the Party’s National Convention.’ ( Consequently, the Kano Appeal Court returned Chief Victor Oye as the National Chairman of APGA with some consequential orders and instantly he was recognized by INEC and Jude Okeke’s list was discarded, while Victor Oye’s list was published on INEC’s website. (9) However, the Supreme Court Judgment of March 24, 2023 has RENDERED the Kano Appeal Court consequential orders a NULLITY and making it ABUNDANTLY clear that Chief Victor Oye has absolutely nothing to do with this APGA as a Party. Hence, in Page 25 of the Lead Judgment of the Supreme Court, the Court declared; ‘In the two (2) Appeals before the Court below; ie. (CA/KN/121/2021) and CA/KN/146/2021 in which Chief Victor Oye; the 2nd Respondent was joined and from which the Appeals No: SC/CV/686/2021 and SC/CV/687/2021 arose, respectively, the 2nd Respondent (Victor Oye) did not claim and was not found to have been the Chairman who was suspended or replaced at the Owerri Convention of 31st May, 2019 and who the 3rd Respondent sought to take over from as the Acting Chairman in the suit filed before the trial court… (10) Instructively, Hon. Justice Olatokunbo Motonmori Kekere Ekun, JSC maintains that; ‘it is therefore crystal clear that the dispute that gave rise to Appeal Nos: SC/CV/687/2021 & SC/CV/686/2021 was who should be that Acting National Chairman of the 1st Respondent and whether the erstwhile National Chairman, Chief Edozie Njoku, was validly replaced. The suit had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with Chief Victor Ike Oye.’ (11) Despite the Supreme Court’s Consequential Orders on APGA leadership tussle, it is unfortunately that Chief Victor Oye and his team have gone to town, in connivance with very senior management staff of INEC to misrepresent and misinterpret facts to suit some inordinate narratives; by attempting to place the Kano Appeal Court Judgment above a Supreme Court Judgment. Nevertheless, the Supreme Court’s has this to say about the Kano Appeal Court Judgment; ‘…the Court of Appeal, Kano Division held that it was the Applicant, Chief Edozie Njoku’s position as the National Chairman of the Party that was in issue and that failure to join him amounted to a denial of his right to be heard.’ (12) Superbly, Hon. Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba, JSC (in Page 18 of the Lead Judgment) explained why Chief Victor Oye cannot be a beneficiary of the Judgment and stated as follows; ‘Appeal No. SC/CV/687/2021 arose from a case before the Trial Court in which the issue of the suspension of the Applicant as the Chairman of the 1st Respondent and as to whether the 3rd Respondent was to assume the position of the Acting Chairman after the suspension of the Applicant (Chief Edozie Njoku). …. the name of the 2nd Respondent whose suspension and replacement by the 3rd Respondent was not an issue in the Appeal No. CA/KN/146/2021, was stated in Page 13 instead of the name of the Applicant, which was the correct name of the person whose suspension and replacement was in issue.’ (13) Apparently, the primary objective of the Judiciary is to dispense justice, especially, where a wrong is perceived to have been done. Therefore, looking at Chief Edozie Njoku’s ordeal in the hands of his detractors, which includes Chief Victor Oye (wherein the latter had denied the former all the benefits of his office as the National Chairman of APGA since 2019) and his persecution in the hands of the Nigerian Police (which Chief Victor Oye procured to try him unjustly) and had him thrown into prison; the Supreme Court categorically stated thus; ‘Chief Victor Oye (the 2nd Respondent) got the Inspector-General of Police to arrest the Applicant, Chief Edozie Njoku and charge him before a Bwari High Court for ‘’Forgery a Supreme Court judgment’’; and in spite of the letter from Hon Justice Mary Ukaego Peter-Odili (JSC) (RTD), clearly exculpating the Applicant who was the victim of the above accidental slip, remanded in Prison Custody by the Bwari High Court pending Ruling on his Bail Application with the Social Media making scandalous and defamatory publications that the National Chairman of APGA, Chief Edozie Njoku, had been sent to prison for forgery of a Supreme Court Judgment, in collusion with officers of the Supreme Court.’ (14) Furthermore, the Court considers Chief Njoku’s detention as an awful, unlawful and unfortunate ordeal (as the National Chairman of APGA), which was orchestrated by Chief Victor Oye, as a great dent to his character, reputation and a big blow to the Party. Similarly, the Court notes; ‘The above has led to great Political upheaval within the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and has resulted in a very heavy dent on the character, reputation and political career of the Applicant and equally sought to falsely impugn the integrity of this Honourable Court and its officers’ (15) Consequently, armed with these scale of facts and evidence as contained in the Consequential Orders of the Supreme Court Judgment of March 24, 2023, Chief Edozie Njoku on March 31, 2023 wrote to INEC requesting to be recognized by the Commission as the authentic National Chairman of APGA. (16) On April 5, 2023, the Supreme Court served INEC the Enrolment Order of the Court. Two weeks later, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu is yet to RESPECT a Supreme Court Judgment. Indeed, Nigerians should be worried. (17) In its usual pretensions, the Commission has set up a Committee (which is akin to opening a ‘shop’ in the con artistry parlance or an invitation to treat) which it claims is to come up with an interpretation of the Supreme Court Judgment. It is now two weeks and nothing has been heard from the Committee and the Commission. (18) Notably, on June 30, 2021, at the instance of the Jigawa Judgment which declared Jude Okeke, (former Deputy National Chairman South) as the Acting National Chairman of APGA, the Commission did not set of any Committee to interpret the Judgment. They recognized Jude Okeke in less than 24hours. (19) When Victor Oye was returned as National Chairman of APGA by the Kano Appeal Court, the Commission did not set up any Committee to interpret the Judgment. (20) INEC only sets up Committee to interpret Judgments anytime the Judgment is in favour of Chief Edozie Njoku. Strangely, this idea of seeking interpretation of the Supreme Court was invented by INEC under Prof. Mahmood Yakubu. (21) Undoubtedly, INEC’s habitual setting up of internal Committees to interpret Supreme Court Judgment is a deliberate orchestration to frustrate Chief Edozie Njoku so as to retain Oye’s name on its website. Therefore, Victor Oye derives his boldness for impunity, ILLEGAL exploits and plots from the backing of the Commission. (22) By retaining Oye’s name on its website, INEC is implicitly in a joint partnership with Chief Victor Oye to share proceeds from nomination forms sold to unsuspecting Governorship aspirants. Oye has conducted ILLEGAL PRIMARIES and returned list of names of purported Governorship candidates to INEC. This is ABSOLUTELY wrong, bearing in mind the recent Supreme Court Judgment which said that Oye’s name should be DELETED from anything that has to do with the Party. (23) By virtue of the Supreme Court Judgment of March 24, 2023, the Commission ought to have severed every relationship with Chief Victor Oye on APGA matters. (23) Clearly, the Court Judgments, starting from Jigawa Judgment to the Supreme Court Consequential Orders which reinstated Chief Edozie Njoku (as the National Chairman of APGA) is so unambiguous that Chief Oye’s continued reference to the judgment of the Court below, in connivance with some members of staff of INEC, as being superior to the Judgment of the Supreme Court is a perfidious act that portends great danger for the Commission. The fact that sensitive Departments of INEC that ought to give the Commission unbiased recommendation are titling towards the Oye narrative is contemptuous. (24) INEC’s delay in upholding the Supreme Court Judgment, whereas Jude Okeke and Victor Oye were immediately recognized by the Commission when Jigawa and Kano Appeal Court Judgments were given provides a fertile ground for suspicion and public conjectures. (25) Unarguably, the matter before the Apex Court which it set out to RESOLVE is not who is the National Chairman of APGA, because at NO POINT in time was that before the Court. That Victor Oye used the powers of Gov. Willie Obiano to seize the APGA National Secretariat, whilst parading himself as the APGA’s National Chairman does not confer any form of legitimacy on the illegality. Before the law, Victor Oye has no business with APGA. (26) Hence, the Supreme Court FOCUSED on its duty which was to ESTABLISH and EDUCATE the Parties (the Appellant Chief Jude Okeke) and 3rd Respondent (Alhaji Rabiu Garba Aliyu) based on FACTS, LOGIC and SUBSTANTIAL EVIDENCE before it that Chief Edozie Njoku’s seat, as the National Chairman of APGA is non justiciable; hence, NO COURT can ENTERTAIN the matter. Conclusively, when the Supreme Court released its Judgment on March 3, 2023 on the New Naira Redesign stating its position as a Policy Court, President Buhari in absolute show of respect to the constitution of Nigeria, and as the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria; in utmost regard to the Principle of Separation of Powers took a bow and allowed the Rule of Law to prevail. Unarguably, this is how a State functions in a constitutional democracy. Finally, if President Buhari, with the enormous power he wields, as the President of the Nigeria could respect a Supreme Court Judgment, one wonders what games Prof. Yakubu Mahmood, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is playing by standing down a Supreme Court Judgment; even when the Enrolled Order had been served on the Commission. If not for anything else, such impudence must not be allowed to stand, because it has the potentials to set Nigeria ablaze.

APGA Petitions INEC, IGP To Enforce Recgnition Of Chief Edozie Njoku as the National Chairman
|
Consequently, the Kano Appeal Court returned Chief Victor Oye as the National Chairman of APGA with some consequential orders and instantly he was recognized by INEC and Jude Okeke’s list was discarded, while Victor Oye’s list was published on INEC’s website.
