Yes I heard about the bank thing. But I was told it takes at least 2 weeks to process the BTA thing from the bank.
Sadly I couldn't do that cos I had to travel within 24 hours of getting my Visa
samuelUMOH:
Go to your bank with passport and evidence of when you are travelling .
Travel / Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by mojohnny(m): 5:36am On Sep 13, 2016
Well I don't believe they did.
It was clearly displayed on their electronic board. If you do get to change to rand at a much lesser price please let me know so my friends coming soon can use the place you used.
Thanks
samuelUMOH:
1rand to 40naira is crazy high .The bureau de change took advantage of your "newbie"
Travel / Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by mojohnny(m): 5:33am On Sep 13, 2016
31st of August you mean?
It takes 6-10 working days to process the visa ( that's what they told me when I called the embassy 2 weeks ago)
So it isn't 10 working days yet. Plus the 2 days for Sallah public holiday WILL elongate the working days too.
If by Thursday /Friday you don't get anything you should call the embassy.
Also try to track your application on the VFS website cos I heard that they sometimes forget to send people messages.

I shouldn't reply this but I have chosen to not let this slide because of the other people who might be misled by your 'know-it-all' attitude.
At the bureau de change at the airport SULAH bureau de change to be precise one Rand was 40 Naira as at 8:30pm on Tuesday 06th September 2016 while one Dollar was also 420.
Do the maths again 252k/40 is 6300 rand. Someone already in SA told me a dollar converted for 13 rands that's why I changed to dollars. I made adequate and well informed decisions and I got good value for my money.
Don't be RUDE.
To anyone reading this thread intending to change money before you decide which currency to change to from Naira visit bureau de change at the airport or your Aboki (whichever is okay with you) and find out how much each currency changes for and you will be able to make the best decision for yourself.
geekybabe:

How or when or were did 1 rand equal 40 naira?? Someone is lying
Intertnational rate is about 22 naira. Let me do your maths for you even at 27 naira.

252k in naira will give you about 9333 rands.. and about 10000 rands if you get a good deal for 25 naira

You lost a lot of money by converting to Dollar first. A whole lot. My advise, always ask around before jumping to conclusions especially wit this unstable naira.
Travel / Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by mojohnny(m): 12:53pm On Sep 11, 2016
Lol.
I am a newbie here and I don't know anybody here.
So I had to do it at the bureau de change at the airport.
staggerlee:

Why do you change your dollars in places that they will charge you commission? Do you know there are black markets in SA, just like lagos.
Travel / Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by mojohnny(m): 9:00pm On Sep 09, 2016
My advice is Change your Naira to dollars in Nigeria and then come to SA to change the dollar to rand.
etoman1:
woow! God bless segun. im expecting my visa anytime soon. submitted on 31th(abj). have been thinking on what to do cos of this dollar thing..

my question is... I shouldnt change my naira to dollars (for my BTA). instead I shoild change my naira tp rands abi?? no vex ooo bros

Because the Naira isn't stable at the moment it's advisable to change to rands
I changed 252k Naira to 600 dollars in Nigeria and I converted this same 600 dollars to 7917 rands after they removed commission here. If I had changed the 252k to rand directly in Nigeria it would have been 6300 rand cos rand was 40 Naira that day.
So I saved almost 2k rand by changing to dollars first.

Solatium:

You do not need dollars, change.your money to rands and spend your rands there,by changing back and forth you will lose some few naira to the change operators...what i did was i bought 3500 rands on my way, i spent just a thousand from it and change the rest to dollars on my way home....that 3500 rand was less than 110k then, but if you require dollars you might need around 250k to get $500
Travel / Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by mojohnny(m): 12:52pm On Sep 09, 2016
Just arrived in SA on Wednesday.
I changed my Naira to dollars then I changed to dollars when I got to the airport here. Naira-Dollar exchange rate was 420 at Sullah bureau de change and when I got here it was 13.6 rands for a Dollar.
Long story short. Changing To dollars then coming over here to convert to rands gives you more value for your money.

Thank God. Nice one. Enjoy Pretoria bro. And try and take the Gautrain to Jburg one of these days. Nice experience. Did some work at UJ and TUT last year. Travelled with Arik then cos it was direct flight and cheaper than SA. I don't know if they are still on the itinerary. Let keep in touch.

Okay. My colleagues that came in on Saturday came in via Ethiopian airlines.theybhad a stop over in Addis Ababa for 2 hours. They however told me that they had to pay $100 at immigration in Nigeria which they said was impaction fee and they were given receipt for and they said they were told it will be returned to them upon arrival ( I and my friends weren't asked that though)
At the Point of Entry here I had a smooth entry, the guy just asked me what I was here for and I told him and he stamped me in. It took less than 2 minutes.
In fact my friend wasn't even asked his reason for coming while my other friend was delayed for about an hour while they were trying to confirm our accommodation. So I must say it depends on luck.
Just be confident and ensure you have the following
A. YELLOW CARD (it's very Key)
B. Return ticket
C. Proof of accommodation
D. Any other documents supporting your reason for entry.
Have a safe trip whenever you are coming.

Thanks bro..i already booked tho! I booked on ethiopian airine. I actually wanted to know if it was ethiopian U flew so i can have a fair knowledge of their service.

Kenya Airways.
180,400 via wakanow.
I bought it on Monday afternoon that's why it was that expensive.
Interestingly it was more expensive on Kenya Airways website.
Try Wakanow, they will give you good choices and they are very reliable.
And no, I am not in Joburg,
I am in Pretoria . The weather is quite cool.but not COLD
know:

Which airline bro? Are you in Joburg, how's d weather like. Should be in by two weeks from now

Travel / Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by mojohnny(m): 6:34pm On Sep 05, 2016
The best time is now.
The visa is usually a 90 day visa so it will well cover your intended travel period.
The other upside to applying now is that once you get your Visa you can pay for your ticket and save on ticket fees.
All the best

As at 22/08/2016 it was 28,550
But to be safe just go with 30k.
Although they charge an optional extra 2700 for delivery within Lagos state.
You will be required to pay once your documents have been reviewed against the checklist.
Cheers

I understand fully.
Even the wait all through the weekend not knowing whether the visa was approved or not is a chore in itself.
Just in case by Monday you haven't gotten a response you should call me South African high Commission to lodge a complaint. Their number is 01-4612067.
Cheers fam

2 friends of mine applied on the 20th and got their visas yesterday although technically it a reapplication cos they applied earlier in the month and got denied cos of bank account issues. So my guess is that yours should be here anyday now.
Speaking of which have you tried the tracking option cos I heard that sometimes it might be ready and they won't send and sms.just incase you haven't tracked it you can do so at http://www.vfsglobal.com/southafrica/nigeria/track_1.html.

Still waiting on mine as well!
Good luck

I applied on 20th and still waiting as well.

Which date did you apply?
I applied on 22nd myself and I am yet to get a response. I even called the embassy on Tuesday and they told me it takes minimum of 6 and maximum of 10 working days to process the application.
Although my friends that applied on the 19th got a message yesterday to come and pick up their visas today so I am hopeful I get a response before the end of the day.

So sum1 like me now will be paid 1 million? I am finding dt hard to believe!!!
addictiv: Let me help you guys, Agbami gives scholarships to both 100 and 200 level students only assuming you re in engineering for example, you get 100k only. If you are in year one you are paid 100k for five years, thats a cumulative of 500k. If you re in year two , you get 100k for four years that's till you graduate totalling 400k.
So when they re talking of paying of which i currently have no information about it simply means that you ll be paid that total cumulative of your scholarship due at once instead of 100k annually you ll get 500k if you are in year one and 400k if you are in year two. You ll not be paid again after this cos obviously your contract with agbami has expired. The same goes for med, pharmacy, nursing and dentistry.
