Hello all. I want to share my experience writing IELTS in Amsterdam. I scored L. 8, S. 8, W.8, R.7.5. I didn't prepare at all for the exam because I got a good job here and had decided not to pursue Canada. I tried to get a refund from British Council but they don't refund you unless you're sick or someone died. So, I dragged myself to the centre; make my hard earned €231 no waste. For Listening, be super attentive. Answer the questions as you hear the convo. Also, get ready to hear all the Western Anglophone accents -- British (I got Northern and Southern English, no posh Eliza accent), Australian and American. I struggled with the Australian accent and it was the section with a map reading. I was like hey gawd! The writing section is about wide use of words and proper writing styles. Pay attention to the word count and make sure not to write less than the stipulated word count. Think WAEC. The reading was boring -- something about fish or some other animal. I suffered through by skimming and scanning. You need to be more patient and attentive than I am. The answers are hidden, sometimes you have to infer. The speaking was okay. It was a nice English man. The time keeping initially threw me and I mumbled my first sentences and stumbled over pronouncing "narcissist". Chai! After that I took a deep breath and thought of him as another nosy stranger having a convo with me in my native language. It became easier. Just keep talking until the time beeps STOP. That was it, guys. I'm grateful for the result, even though I don't know if I will ever use it. Might jump in the pool to taste the waters. Who knows tomorrow? |
The journey has begun. I've sent my Master's degree certs to WES. The two universities I attended in Holland have also sent my transcripts to WES free of charge and according to my specific instructions (WES format). Now preparing for IELTS. *hoping and praying it takes one shot* |
This is heartwarming. Thanks for the tips. ladymarshall: |
Good morning all. Please does 2 years 11 months work experience count as 3 years? Also, does having 2 Master's degrees get one extra points? |
ayandee:Okay. Thanks. I'll use WES FOR evaluation and write IELTS in Germany. Fingers crossed I ace it |
Hello all. Silent reader here. Please which is the fastest credential evaluation body? WES, IQAS, ICAS? I am a lawyer with a Master's in Law from a Dutch university and I will be submitting only the Master's for evaluation (I don't have the stamina for Naija institutions). Also, does anybody have good experience (read: good grades) writing the IELTS General in Germany? I wrote the Academic in 2015 in Dortmund and my scores weren't great (L - 7.5, W - 6.5, R - 7, S - 7). To be fair though, I didn't prepare/study for that test AT ALL. I just went in with the mentality that I am a native speaker and was thoroughly humbled by the test. Should I wait and write IELTS when I'm in Nigeria in a couple of months, or brave Europeans and their misunderstanding of African accents and write the test in Germany/Netherlands/Belgium? I'm in my 30's so I need to max the scores. Thanks |
Jennypharb1:465 if I add French (limited working proficiency) |
Jennypharb1:Yes, I checked; it's same as my Law degree -- 23 (135). Pity i was hoping for jara |
MoneYibo:Ps: I'm also in the process of acquiring two renowned certificates -- CIPP & Comptia A+ . Do I get extra points for them? Sorry for the plenty questions. I'm hedging my bets |
Hello all. I'm not a Newbie on this beloved platform per se. I just no longer use the email address associated with my old Nairaland acc so I had to open another one. I'm heavily considering leaving Holland for Canada but I'm confused about the calculation of points for education. I have a bachelor of laws, master of arts and master of laws. How many points is that, please? Is it 23 for the highest degree or do I get extra points for the masters degrees? Like they do for languages. Thanks |
