I wonder ooo, some of the greatest players in football history never reached a World Cup semifinal, let alone back-to-back finals. Yet somehow, a player who won the World Cup in 2022 and then led his country to another final 4 years later is being told he should have retired because he didn't win it again. That's an incredibly unrealistic standard.
Sometimes I genuinely wonder how people arrive at these conclusions, the only reason this argument even exists is because Messi has set the bar so unbelievably high that people now judge him by standards no one else is expected to meet. For almost every player, reaching two consecutive World Cup finals would be celebrated as an extraordinary achievement. Somehow, for Messi, it's treated as failure simply because he didn't win the second one.
How do you describe someone who takes a second-place out of thousands and millions of footballers who participated in the tournament a failure?
That is a ridiculous take.

This is simply not true.
Yesterday, we were told that Spain is essentially Portugal's extension country, so whatever Spain achieves automatically belongs to Portugal. Since Spain won the World Cup, congratulations to Portugal on becoming world champions! That also means Cristiano Ronaldo now has two World Cups, 2010 and 2026, while poor Yamal still has only one. When logic dies, agendas become facts.

Pass to Messi only is on the reasons Argentina lost yesterday. Spain had a field day to play since Messi doesn't press, Rodri could run the midfield since Alvarez couldn't press both the CBs and Rodri by himself, once Enzo got sent off I thought Messi would run a bit more but no difference. He walked around for 120mins doing nothing. Scaloni refusing to give any minutes to Paz and Barco through out the tournament was also a big shame.

Blaming the defeat solely on Messi is driven more by an agenda than by objective analysis. Argentina reached the final with the same tactical setup and the same Messi, whose reduced pressing has been part of Scaloni's system for years. That approach has already delivered major trophies.

Spain dominated because they were simply the better team, not because Messi didn't press. Besides, how do you expect him to press when Spain were controlling the possession and are not willing to lose it for a sec? Should he start diving into reckless tackles or kicking players just to prove he was "pressing"?

The reality is that Spain were outstanding. If this final were played 10 times, Spain will win all 10. They were superior in almost every department.

Many people are just hiding behind Enzo's red card as an excuse for the result, but I don't think it will change the outcome. With or without Enzo, Spain were the better side and deserved to win, kudos must be given to Emi martinez, the scoreline should read 2 or 3, or 4:0. sef.
