Music/Radio / 5 Reasons Nigeria Music Industry Will Benefit From Don Jazzy/d’banj Reunion by MoremusicNG: 1:54pm On May 10, 2018
The most notable appearance at Davido’s end of 2017 30 Billion World Tour Lagos Finale was the reunion of Mo’Hits Crew for a power-packed performance after the group separated some years back and went their separate ways.

Home to Wande Coal, Dr SID, D’Prince and K-Switch while it existed as a record label, Mo’Hits Records, established in 2004, was owned by D’banj and Don Jazzy. While Don Jazzy was the CEO/President of the label, D’banj was the Co-Owner.

D’banj and Don Jazzy as a pair dominated the Nigerian music scene towards the end of the last decade with super raving hits like, “Fall in Love”, “Why Me” and “Igwe”.

Since the pair went separate ways in 2012, Don Jazzy has proceeded to build up the mega fruitful Mavin Records, home to Dr SID, D’Prince, Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Di’Ja, Korede Bello, Johnny Drille, DNA and Poe.

D’banj himself – who also owned a record label, DB Records – surprised the world with “Oliver Twist” directly after the split, and has remained a perplexing piece of the Nigerian music scene with hits such as “Emergency” and “It is Not a Lie”.

Regardless of the fact that the duo have gone on to achieve noteworthy accomplishment on their various paths, there’s presumably that a reunion between Don Jazzy and D’banj will benefit the Nigerian music industry tremendously.

Below are top 5 reasons we think the duo will be better coming back together.

1. Don Jazzy and D’banj are still better together

Albeit both Don Jazzy and D’banj have stayed hotshots on the Nigerian music scene since their split, D’banj, without a doubt, hasn’t been the monstrous genius he was while banded together with Don Jazzy.

The hit-maker who demolished pre-existing records by winning the coveted MTV EMA Best African Act award twice – once while still with Don Jazzy, and the second month’s after their part – hasn’t possessed the capacity to repeat the levels of progress he recorded while with Don Jazzy.

Although, Don Jazzy is doing better than D’banj presently with the triumphs that his record label artistes have earned these past few years, reality remains that Don Jazzy has no one signed to Mavin Records that is as big a hotshot as D’banj was when the duo worked together.

It’s truly evident that – just like bread and spread – D’banj and Don Jazzy are better together as a pair.

Celebrities / Review: "Kana," Olamide Fails To Fly Without Young John by MoremusicNG: 9:06am On May 09, 2018
Taking it back to the days of Wizkid's and Olamide's 'Omo to shan' song, the transcendent days when the duo were still striving hard to make a name in the music industry. It was evident they both put their very best in the hit song and as you would expect, it went viral and raided the airwaves. Olamide's last release before "Kana" was 'Owo Shayo' and the song was unarguably a jam for the streets likewise Wizkid's Soco, not an awful song and everybody ended up dancing to it.

The song 'Kana' isn't that bad, but as far as it's coming from two of Nigerian biggest act who are known to be dropping load of hits, why is their collaboration sounding like it's from an upcoming artist. There are some types of songs that may sound somewhat dry when you first listen to it, it tends to grow on you (eg. Davido’s Assurance), sadly enough, Kana isn’t one of those songs.

Celebrities / 5 Qualities Every Female Must Possess To Secure A Davido by MoremusicNG: 11:22am On May 03, 2018
Davido and his girlfriend Chioma have been all over the social media for a while with their romantic tale and even recently, Davido bought her a 45 million Porsche as a birthday present.

Well, Davido pronounced that Chioma was going to be his wife. Indeed, you are right, she’s the lady he want to spend whatever is left of his existence with “no doubt!”. A few women are in anguish, and have started the search for their own Davido.

Below are 5 characteristics you must possess to secure a Davido in your life.

Ability to cook
They say the quickest path to a man’s heart is through his stomach. We’re not talking about cooking noodles or frying egg. If that’s everything you can do, we are sorry this isn’t for you. What we mean here is having the capacity to prepare neighborhood and intercontinental dishes that taste great. Have you seen Chef Chi’s Instagram? That is the sort of dish you should have the capacity to make.

Serve his friends and companion
Davido has friends and gang, according to Davido, if Chioma cooks,”Chioma would serve food to everyone in the house”. You have to be generous enough to everyone surrounding your David. Serve food to the gate man, the cleaners and the people closer to your David.

Love his kids like they are yours
According to Davido, he disclose that Chioma is the only person he knows who would treat his kids like her kids, even though she did not give birth to them; A quality only his mom had.

Forgo your social media life
“She no like Instagram, I dey beg am to post,” Davido stated. Can you forgo this one to secure your David? Some of you cant even drop your phones for one minute. Some might actually die if they wake up one day and social media no longer exist.

Having a great personality
A David does not like attention seekers or rude babes. According to David’s friends, Chioma is someone who touches people’s lives no matter how little. You have to have a great personality to be loved by a Davido.

I’m certain some people are already frustrated with these 5 characteristics. They have probably beaten all of bae’s nephews or burnt all the food they have tried to cook. Well for those of us that can sink this, good luck in finding your Mr. David!

Celebrities / Why Nigerian Music Industry Is Still In Reverse by MoremusicNG: 9:45am On Apr 25, 2018
What goes for good music nowadays in the Nigerian music industry? , that is most likely the hardest question on the planet despite the fact that it has the least difficult answer; ‘a similar thing that is affecting the music industry to fall flat.’

It’s extremely shocking now that foreign artistes are now making good use of our afrobeat sound on their songs way more than the Nigerian artistes aside some good ones. Why are all these happening? basically, it’s because the Nigerian music industry is still in reverse and below par.

Below are reasons why these are happening:

Payola
The art of payola has been a torment in the industry ever since radio was invented. OAPs play an artiste’s song for a stipulated fee no matter how wack the song is particularly in the pretense of promoting the artiste’s song. Indeed, I know the OAP needs to make as much money as possible on the grounds that things are hard in the country, and while this is helping to foot the bills of the radio station, in turn, it’s killing the music industry because of the amount of not-so-good songs that we listen to on radio every day. And Nigerian music is somewhat setup in a way that you end up enjoying a song, you initially hated, after you’ve listened to it too many times. So payola is helping make wack artistes and wack tunes popular.

Lethargic artistes and producers
There is this profoundly instilled ‘one-corner’ attitude in numerous Nigerian artistes; the art of following the trend. At the point when pom-pom beat first came out, the next few months resulted in over half of the songs that were released in the industry all having that beat. Every year, many artistes attempt developing new dance moves without considerable verses to back them up. Everything comes down to apathy. Artistes like Asa, Tuface, Banky W and other top artistes in the industry are still relevant because they don’t have this state of mind, from their songs, you can tell that they really put in good work. There is a touch of their identity in each song they sing.

Ever since he was featured on M.I’s “Fast Money, Fast Cars” and then releasing his own debut album “Superstar,” the following years after were literally dubbed ‘The Year of Wizkid’ because over 20 artistes featured him and as you would have guessed, the songs were all hits. Ever since, Starboy head of honcho has become one of the most featured and highly sought after acts to feature on a track, even Drake and Beyonce did a collabo with him.

Celebrities / 5 Reasons Why Olamide's Song Is Widely Accepted by MoremusicNG: 8:26pm On Apr 09, 2018
.
.

1. Olamide dishes out new style everytime he releases a song

Being a versatile artiste, Olamide's rap and song makes him unique because he brings something quite fresh anytime he releases a song. For instance, lets a look at his “WO”, produced by Youngjohn, it was widely accepted here in Nigeria and other Africa nations.

The chest bag was popularized in the video shoot. The Shaku Shaku dance became popular after he used it the video shoot. The blonde hair dying trend that existed not quite long wouldn’t have been a wave if Olamide hadn’t used it on his Pepper Dem Gang video. The slang “Sneh” originated from Olamide and then “Wo” is the new slang popularized by him.
.
2. He’s the anchor of Yoruba rap

Dagrin was the undisputed king of rap in Nigeria before he passed on, ever since, the responsibility fell on Olamide’s shoulders. His first official singles, “Eni Duro” effectively became a nationwide hit. Olamide has been representing the Yoruba speakers, though, he might be a local rapper but still, he's holding it down for the Yoruba’s when it comes to hip hop.
.
3. He's presently the king of the Street

Presently, Olamide is the king of the street. Only few musicians has ever been able to influence the streets like Olamide has.

Lil kesh took a shot at the “king of the street” title but he couldn’t cope with the momentum. Today, Olamide drops “Science Student” and Boom its already all over the place. Tomorrow he drops “C Ronaldo and everybody is already talking about it.
.
4. His singing ability

Olamide started music professionally as a rapper but then, hw wasn’t singing so much. To get a good hook and make a name for himself, he had to collaborate with a lot of musicians on his album, Rhapsody. An example is “Omo To Shan” which features Starboy head of honcho, Wizkid.

Before, Olamide had to employ the services of songstresses but now, he has evolved. He now carries his cross and even gets featured to take the choruses for other artistes.

Although he lacks that silky vocal textures you’d expect of a singer, people have accepted his voice and appreciate the music he makes.
.
5. Dropping of album consistently

When it comes to consistency, Olamide hasn’t gotten rusty. He has been dropping an album year after year ever since his professional music career began. won't be surprised if he drops another in no time.

No Nigerian rapper has dropped as much albums as Olamide. Many musicians space the release of their albums to recuperate and gather momentum due to the finance it requires and the stiff competition in the industry but that hasn’t stopped Badoo from releasing an album from his fans in every year.

Celebrities / Does Nigerian Music Preaches Against Domestic Violence? by MoremusicNG: 1:04pm On Apr 04, 2018
The web is regularly awashed presently with shameful stories of domestic violence between life partners. This issue of domestic violence at home constantly leads to separation of wedded couples nowadays. What’s more, this trend is disheartening and demoralizing. It frightens the hell out of those on the brink of getting married.

Image result for domestic violence

However, It’s subject to demonstrate that social media lessens the breakdown of relational unions in this centuries. On the other hand, do we save the prospect that unions of yester years were not much, just that deceived life partners turned out to be more vocal with the guide of the social media. One of the accompanying attestations wouldn’t be a long way from reality.

How much of Nigerian music denounces domestic violence?

Siting down, i considered the amount of Nigerian music utilized to speak against a societal issue like domestic violence, i could barely specify five songs immediately. Indeed, even after much conceptualizing I couldn’t get five. You’ll scarcely know about such sort of music also it picking up standard acknowledgment.

Suffice it to say, very little of Nigerian music condemns acts domestic violence.

Celebrities / How Long Will Psquare Duo Go As Solo Artistes? by MoremusicNG: 9:04am On Apr 04, 2018
Music groups going other way is not a new thing in the industry. Flashing back, as the list is numerous, Plantashun Boiz, The Remedies, One Direction, well known labels, YMCMB, Mo’Hitz and so forth., sooner or later went into the thin air. Nonetheless, the Psquare case was quite different from the rest. Right off the bat, the gathering is comprised of two siblings, on the other hand they’re not the first music group made up of brothers, The Jackson Five, Jonas Brothers, The Corrs rapidly come into mind. Be that as it may, the more grounded holding component would be that Peter and Paul are twins – identical twins. They had a similar umbilical rope.

Just as the fans couldn’t hold the prospect of our dear Psquare music powerhouse coming apart, we learn how to deal with it as the separation has come to remain. A year ago the twins debilitated a split, fans cried, senior citizens mediated and they repaired broken fences and harsh patches. But this didn’t keep going long. We now talk about Psquare as an old music group. It’s extremely awful yet I figure Nigerians couldn’t care less any longer.

There is nothing wrong being a commercial rapper, you just have to know what you want to do and the audience you are trying to gather and reach, then you are good to go.

Before dabbing into commercial rap, Below are some essential tips to make you a great commercial rapper.

You’re not a Rapper
You have to be extremely consistent to make it as a commercial rapper, even though you are, you still kinda aren’t.

Think of yourself as a hustler, that’s why Olamide keeps on releasing albums every year.

Have a look that best defines you
Before dropping a song, sit down and figure out your appearance. What style defines you? do you want to become a signature look, like Davolee’s dyed hair or maybe you are the type that prefers to be ripped with a few tattoos like Dabivo?

Your look is more important than anything else as a rapper. You can have the wackest bars ever, but your look can actually distract some fans from noticing how wack your lines are. All you have to do is look whatever part you want to play, and as long as your label markets you right, you’re in!

Celebrities / Five Notable Nigerian Artists That Started From The Scratch by MoremusicNG: 7:26pm On Mar 07, 2018
1. Patoranking

He is arguably Nigeria’s number one reggae/dance-hall artist at the moment. From being the face and ambassador of several top brands and organisations to returning as a judge in the ongoing musical competition – The Voice Nigeria, Patoranking has shown not only his versatility but also the fruit of hard-work. Now you see all the glitz and glamour that surrounds and exudes from him, and you wish your life could like his. However, before you quickly latch upon the glory you see, please let’s take a plunge into his STORY.

Before coming to lime light, he was a brick layer. If you are yet to grasp what that means…this is it: He didn’t just do brick laying, he also carried “kponkpon”. Kponkpon is the pan used to carry sand from one place to another within a building or construction site.

To further strengthen his hustle, and to raise funds to support his family (being the first born) and his musical career, he sold rat poison (maybe something like “ota piapia”) on the street. Nobody wey no fit to make am!

2. Wizkid

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known by his stage name Wizkid, is definitely Nigeria’s finest and hottest entertainment export. Born on 16 July 1990, Wizzy quickly embraced his musical destiny at age 11. Formerly known as Lil’ Prinz, his early career wasn’t as smooth as you might think.

Unlike some artists that were born with “golden spoons”, and had billions in their accounts even before venturing into music, wizzy was not that fortunate. He literally became a studio rat; he ate and slept in popular studios in pursuit of his dreams…these were his days in Surulere and Ojuelegba. He never relied on hand outs from patronage or parentage.

He has shared stages with a lot of Nigeria’s finest artist, and has entered global relevance with collaboration with renowned artists like Drake.

Today regardless of what you think of him, the name WizKid will forever resound in the annals of Nigerian history.

Celebrities / 7 Music Stars That Needs To Try Out Something Else by MoremusicNG: 5:24pm On Feb 28, 2018
There are some of our music stars who need to try out something else because music isn’t just working out anymore for them. Sadly, no matter the amount of effort they put into making music, the result of as mediocre at best if not very poor without their usual brilliance. All signs point out that their period of relevance has elapsed, they are of little use to the industry.

On the flip side of things, these music acts have not adapted well to the transient dynamics of the industry. They have been lost in the quick change of sound, music style and maybe even PR moves. We may have loved some of them in the past but at the moment our love has grown cold. Sometimes we have lost track of their activities, and have moved on with other buzzing acts.

It may not sound good but these acts need to retire from actively doing music but rather try out other profitable ventures. These are some of those music acts we think need to head in a new direction.

Celebrities / Has Olamide “science Student” Video Really Proven He’s Against Drugs ??? by MoremusicNG: 4:02pm On Feb 28, 2018
Olamide fondly called “Baddo” by fans is not a strange name in the Nigerian music industry, with many hits to justify himself, he needs little or no introduction.

Over the years, Olamide has honed his musical skills by working with several producers and artists here in Nigeria, his recent effort titled “Science Student” coming after the success of his viral Shaku Shaku song “WO”.

Olamide comes from the streets where he already witnessed millions of Nigerian youths with bright
future, trapped in the circle of drug abuse.

The Young John and BBanks produced track “Science Student” has a lot of fans, it also has its detractors with many saying the song blatantly promotes drug abuse. It even reportedly led to the NBC declaring it unfit for broadcast which Olamide denies instantly, saying the song is against drug abuse and more lights would be shed on the video and it kind of does. The Unlimited LA directed clip shows Olamide wandering into a sort of druggy house of horrors, but refusing to take the unknown substance he’s offered.

Crime / Snake Charmers Storm JAMB Headquarters In Search Of Money Swallowing Snake by MoremusicNG: 5:53pm On Feb 13, 2018
As the news of the alleged report of a snake swallowing millions of Naira at the headquarters of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board in Bwari heightens up. The Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Sen. Shehu Sani on Tuesday stormed the office with snake charmers.

The visit was birthed to unravel the mystery behind the reported missing N36 million from the office of JAMB in Makurdi, Benue State and the Snake that swallowed it.

NAN report that a Philomena Chieshe, a sales clerk in the JAMB office, Makurdi, told JAMB registrar and his team that “she could not account for N36 million she made in previous years before the abolition of scratch cards.

“In the course of interrogation, Philomena denied the allegations that she stole the money but confessed that her housemaid connived with another JAMB staff to spiritually (through a snake) steal the money from the vault in the accounting office”, the report said.

“I believe that the contribution I can make is to bring snake charmers from my constituency to the JAMB office and to help them fish out the snake and weed out snakes from their premises.”

Sani further said that if a snake could actually swallow N36 million, one day Nigerians may wake up to say that a snake had swallowed the country’s foreign reserve.

“Even if it is a spiritual matter, we believe that these people I brought, are some of the best snake charmers in the country and they will help in arresting both physical and spiritual snakes if there has been any in the JAMB office.”

He explained that it was very clear the incident did not happen during the tenure of the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede.

“We are very proud of him. We believe he is someone who should continue to run this agency.

“It is good for Nigerians to know this is what happened before he came into office. I believe the best thing we can do is to continue to support him.

“It is high time Nigerians know that there may be other dirty things happening in other places but this place has exposed it for us. We know the truth and I’m very happy about that.

Celebrities / Why Are A-list Artist Going Commercial ??? by MoremusicNG: 8:58am On Jan 26, 2018
A good music is a blend of everything which comprises of good beat, good message and nice melody, but it appears this isn’t so anymore. The question is, why do many Nigerians prefer today’s whack music to the soulful, meaningful music of yester years?

Gone are the days in Nigeria when values were embedded in music. Today, musical tunes and lyrics have changed from what they used to be as today’s music is defined by sound and drum beat rather than meaning, Falz once said “It is correct to say that a lot of artists are not concerned about lyrical content because they know that the Nigerian people just want to dance.”

Money is now more relevant to the A-list artist rather than the content/message they are sending out while the trend still remains “feel good music”.

To maintain a lavish lifestyle, finance a pet project or to even make ends meet, all you need is one club banger and your bank account hits 6 digits, that’s the mentality of an average up & coming artiste, whereas this trend is slowly killing good music and the morale of the listeners.

Historically, average Nigerians know a handful of artistes who were true to their fusion of music from the start, artiste that are dishing out good content; regardless of whether it was a club banger, an R & B song or jazz music. But as much as music is done for the love of it, there’s a need to put food on the table, and that’s where commercialisation comes in. This is where we got it wrong.
