Nigeria's crude stock supply is in dire straits not owing to diminshing oil wells but from crooked oil swap deals that are expected to expire in decades.

The situation is compounded by ESG policies being pushed by Larry Fink of BlackRock (the world's largest institutional investment firm) that has seen to a significant drop in funding in hydrocarbon extraction in the name of battling "climate change".

Oil theft , which is now institutionalised and is carried out by powerful cartel within the same industry and OPEC quotas have seen to almost near zero capital flows into opening up new wells.

We have the oil and it isn't running out any time in the next 300ys!

The country is now officially being denied use of its own resources by international investment interests. This is why the govt is pointing you towards CNG .

Now why will Larry Fink of BlackRock be waging war on hydrocarbons ? Larry Fink does not appear as some one with a bleeding heart to save the planet. On the contrary, the likes of Larry Fink are cut-throat capitalist wolves of Wall Street whose investment portfolios in heavy mining has devastated large swaths of the Amazon rain forest and Congo Basin in mining activities.

To understand why Larry Fink is waging war on crude , you must first understand that the major currency BlackRock holds and values its vast equities are priced in the Petrodollar. That same Petrodollar will go to dust if crude prices suddenly drop. And one way to see to crude oil drop in the international market is by disrupting production across the planet be it either through sabotage, conflict , diplomatic sanctions (as in the case of Russia and Iran) or through deinvestment into new oil wells.

The notion that oil is finite is hogwash. Crude is a renewable resource produced from deep in the earth's crust by immense geothermal and pressure forces. The Russians knew about this abiotic theory of crude as early as the 1950s but the US killed this and pushed for the Biotic theory that crude was formed by eons of accumulated decaying bio matter and that it's supply was finite and non renewable. The biotic theory thus led to the over commercialisation of crude to the benefit of those investing in its exploration and drilling. Blackrock's ESG policy is one last desperate ditch to demonise crude and still keep it artificially over priced which in turn benefits the Petrodollar and those who hold large cache of it.

One would have thought that such an arrangement would see to Tinubu maintaining the subsidy regime as it will guarrantee steady profit margins for the owners of the refinery in Malta.


Malta doesn't have a single drop of oil and any refinery there must source from the international market, refine it over there,pay hefty Eurozone green taxes , pay for shipment back to Nigeria , store it in oil jetties and face a lowered demand due to higher cost due to removal of subsidies.

It makes no sense.

If anything , Tinubu would be interested in opening his own refinery and taking a huge stake in Dangote refinery.

From all I can discern so far, Dangote whose refinery was built from scratch with FG FX waivers and even has NNPC as a major share holder is asking for the following :


1. Crude supplies at a subsidised rate.

2. Import tariffs and levies to be imposed on refined import products .


Let's start with 1) above: NNPC being as useless as any govt owned corporation neither drills not refines crude. Rather , NNPC is more interested in collecting rent from IOCs. As for their downstream operation, the NNPC is only interested in using their moribound refineries in Warri, PHC and Kaduna to siphon huge amount of money under the guise of turnaround maintenance. The funds diverted to this wasteful excersice comes from ground rent collected from IOCs The IOCs that do the actually drilling in the upstream sector , are more committed to international supply where they are paid in FX. The FG is more interested in collecting rent from such operation to source for much needed FX to meet both its local and international debt demands and so can not supply Dangote refinery any stock. It gets more complicated when you consider massive oil theft, existing oil swap arrangements, low investment confidence in new oil fields and OPEC quotas which has seen to hardly any crude stock left to supply Dangote Refinery.

In the case of 2), Dangote seems more interested in creating a monopoly market for his refinery by pricing out importers if hefty levies and tarrifs are imposed on imports and crude is supplied to Dangote refinery at a heavily subsidised cost.

While all Dangote demands may all seem the right thing to do, it is creating a future monopoly for Dangote .

Note that Dangote refineries is more interested in exporting refined products than supplying the local market. This is why he chose Lagos as the site for his refinery. Lagos being at the very edge of Damgote's future west African market. If you think this will be beneficial to Nigeria's economy , you are wrong. Because most of the revenue Dangote will generate if he had his way , will go to his international partners and investors abroad while the govt and Nigerian people will be given the burden to subsidise crude to Dangote and suffer the consequences of a monopolist market .


Damgote's greed got us here.

The best option was what GEJ proposed which was in the form of granting liscences to modular refinery operators with capacity of no more than 20-30k barrels per day. If that had sailed through, we would have had several dozen small scaled refineries up and running with a local supply chain guarranteed , more jobs created and serious competition for imported refined products.

But Dangote being the spoilt government funded corporation that has thrived on waivers and cut throat monopoly tactics is crying that he can no longer secure a monopoly complete with govt waivers.

The solution to all this madness starts first with the total unbundling and final liquidation of the State owned (or is it?) NNPC once and for all and the deregulation of the down stream sector to get more local content which will create jobs and see to the development of the down stream sector.

Dangote has bitten way too much than he can swallow.
