Hey guys, I have a question that might have been addressed multiple times before, however I will like to ask directly. I have a USA Visitor Visa and I would like to apply for a Canadian student visa while I am there. Is there no way around this at all? From all the information I have gotten from here, it seems like it's an automatic rejection. However I have heard of a case where such application was successful. With processing time being a 5 month average, you can understand why I am re-visiting the option of a month processing time in the USA. My first application, submitted online was refused with no reasons given. I have only just applied for the GCMS notes. I would appreciate well thought out responses. |

Hi guys mostblackroad here: I had been out of town lately hence my online absence. My application got refused a few days. I am not entirely sure why because there was no correspondence letter attached. Even my ex-consular friend was a little surprised. I plan to apply for my gcms notes, defer my admission and reapply in a few months. However I would like to share my profile and hopefully I can get ideas and suggestions from everyone in the house: I applied online in June. I got admitted to BSc. Commerce at MUN. Documents I submitted: 1. Acceptance Letter 2. Passport Page and prior visa pages (5 UK Visas and 11 year travel history, valid USA and UK, South Africa visas) 3. Bank Statements from maternal uncle totalling 6.7m, also submitted attestation of age for him and my mother (my tuition and upkeep amount to 5m) 4. Affidavit of Support stating relationship (although I never mentioned about his dependants). Sponsor is based abroad. 5. CIC Forms 6. Upfront Medicals *No SOP. I got refused a US visa several years ago, about 5 years ago I believe. I actually forgot to state that in my application when I initially applied because it was such a while ago, but immediately I remembered I think the next day; I contacted a lawyer friend in Canada and he advised me to write CIC Ghana immediately and I did, explaining to the error in the application. They confirmed that they received the email and would attach it to my file. This was before I even did my biometrics. I would also like to confirm if anyone has applied successfully from the United States or The UK? I plan on applying from there. cc: wealth360, glam4444, Canadiannurse, austinpee, osemigho, canadian nurse |

@eilenora When your TRV is approved you will be given a visa only for the duration of your first program on the conditional acceptance, after that you will have to re-apply or extend while in Canada. So if your diploma is three months you will be given a three month visa, once you complete it you would have to re-apply. I was told that and also confirmed it on cicnews. Re-applying would mean submitting financial documents and application documents again. If you are not in a rush, I would personally suggest you apply for a different program in a different school that will give you direct admission (unless you have searched and didn't find). http://monitor.icef.com/2016/08/canada-introduces-new-visa-process-conditional-admissions/ Are you applying via paper or online? imm 5409 - is applied to people who have a registered relationship in the government, if you are single, it doesnt concern you. imm 5476 - is for when you used a representative (agent) imm 5483 - is your checklist for your application imm 5485 - is for people applying to settle in canada imm 5945 - is for visitors visa and hence doesnt concern you Eilenora: 1 Like |

Wow you don't have a lot of time, pm me though, I emailed you the templates you asked for. You are pressed for time so I suggest you hit the ground running. If you are in Lagos, go do upfront medicals at The Childrens Practice Consultant. It's at Ikoyi and if you get there on time, they can attend to you within a few hours. You can do it first thing tomorrow morning because they attend to clients 8-10. Also have you actually gotten admitted and have you started processing the certificate of acceptance? 20 days is quite sometime if you have not started processing it. It would mean that you can't submit your application till the end of the month or in July. Which is not enough time in my opinion, though some people get their application processed within a month, but that's just a handful of people. That's something you have to decide if you can risk. I think it is safer your tuition is paid. Since she has her pension and other accounts in good shape. Paying the tuition settles the question of if you are really going to school there and it validates your mom's other documents as legit. That's my opinion on that. If you have been admitted, what was the condition of your acceptance. The documents you would submit also depends on whether you are applying via paper or online. All the documents you have listed are adequate for your application. I don't think you would need anything else, for anything you might even need to submit less. You don;t need to submit the data page of your siblings if you are submitting their birth certificate. Your affidavit most be notarized in a court and signed by your mom. So far, your application seems to be in good shape, let's know the what you studied and what you gotten admitted to study. Then your travel history, depends on where you traveled to could also be a plus for you. If you have been denied a visa you should remember to note that too. Eilenora: 1 Like |

No wonder, it's quite recent. You should have noted it in your application, but it's fine let's hope for a positive feedback. If it was few years ago then they might not have questioned you. When they ask about refusals, they generally mean all categories and for all countries. A better response would have been that your application was (rejected) and you didn't realise a rejection was a refusal. hurlaspecial123: |

I suggest you just be patient, we can't really say why. I do know that it takes some people days and sometimes weeks to get the biometric request. I believe it is part of their processing. Quick question though, at what point did you get that message? deolutolu: |

@eilenora It shouldn't be difficult. What you can do if possible is to pay part of your tuition because yes that will reduce the total amount you have to show. Remember you need to show $25,000CDN. $15,000CDN is about N4.3m. $10,000 CDN is about N2.8m. Which means you need to have a statement of about N7.1m minimum. If your cousin can pay your tuition that would reduce what you have to show to N2.8m. However, you can transfer to your mom's account but be careful because embassies in general are always suspicious when bulk money comes into an account just before a visa application. You would need to properly explain, your mom that is and with proof. Since she has dependants, you will need to show a little bit more cash in the account, a safe range would be N8m. In your sponsorship letter it is important your mum briefly mentions that she has two dependants, who are eg. in school and that she is capable of looking after them as well as you. What was the condition stated on your offer of admission? Also, land documents don't really count as proof of financial capacity. They serve mostly as home ties if it is yours and as a proof of guarantee if it's from your sponsor, basically it shows that he/she is settled. Eilenora: |

DOs and DON'Ts continued 6. DON’T explain any situation that is normal. There have been a lot of questions about just how effectively SOP affect your application. Now there is a significant difference between a statement of purpose and a letter of intent/explanation. A statement of purpose is usually geared towards your school admission application, mostly likely Masters and PhD courses, where you explain whey you want to be admitted to the particular course. Then there is also "an essay" is usually written for the same purpose though for an undergraduate admission. When it comes to your visa application, you are meant to explain any supplementary information on your letter of intent/explanation, not necessary a Statement of Purpose. The VOs are more concerned about your eligibility to be in Canada than your eligibility to study a particular course. They are in the business of border control not admission. If you have a normal visa application case, say a 24 year old Petroleum Engineering graduate applying a year after graduation for Masters in Oil and Gas engineering then you have nothing to explain. Similarly, a 22 year old applying for a BSc. has nothing to explain because that person is still very much within the normal age for University education. Letter of Explanation actually is the least important documents in your visa application, if everything else is in place. If you have any lapses or inadequacies in your application, a LOE or SOP if you like will do nothing to improve your case, in some instances it might make your application look dubious eg. someone that already has a Masters in Banking, going for a certificate course in photography and using a SOP/LOE to explain why he loves photography, in most cases WILL come out as fraudulent even if the applicant genuine intentions. Focus on presenting a sensible, logical, neat and simple application with the appropriate documents and leave the LOE or SOP for only when you have a special situation you need to explain. USE SOP or LOE when you have something relevant to say that can influence you application. Let your story be sensible! 7. DON’T misrepresent in your application. Misrepresentation ends in a refusal 10 out of 10 times. Misrepresentation can mean lying and lying a lie that is easily detected. For instance if you say you are a married man and at the same time say you have no dependants on your application; because of your finances, that’s an obvious lie. VOs know that most men provide the income for their family so that as simple as it is can end up in a refusal, if you have 3 kids state it and make sure you have the finances in your account to show that you can look after them. If you have been to any country, be very sure to state it in your application. VOs trust liquid cash more than assets. Assets are only an advantage when proving ties to home not as a means to financial resource. If you have been refused a visa, be sure again to indicate it on your application. If you must lie, which is not advisable, your lie/s must be impossible to peel apart and with solid documents to back up. 8. DO factor in time when applying for your visa. There has been a lot of questions about whether or not online applications are faster than paper applications and the answer is quite obvious. Online applications are processed faster because obviously all the VO has to do is sit in front of a computer to review yours application. There are no transit times between VFS and Ghana, whereas on paper applications your documents have to be physically couriered to the embassy which is in Ghana I believe, that obviously again takes a specified time, maybe one, two or three days depending on the backlog. Now while online applications are PROCESSED faster, that doesn’t necessarily mean someone who applied online would always get their visa faster than someone who applied via paper because every case is individual and different. The earlier you apply, the better. Don’t do last minute submission because processing time varies and if you get your visa late, you would have issues at the point of entry in Canada. 9. DO consider passport validity rules. You will not be issued a visa passed the validity of your passport, so keep that in mind. If you are doing a two year course and your visa expires in a year, you’ll be given likely a 9 month visa that must be extended when you get a new passport. The Nigerian consulate is in Ottawa, and it is possible to get a new passport there for about $120 CDN. However when extending your permit, you’ll need bank statements and paperwork from your school. 10. DO reapply. If for any reason you were refused, calmly look through the lapses on your application and requested for more information regarding your case. Use that information to rebuild your application and confidently reapply; be sure not to come off as desperate. Your second approach should correct any misjudgements made concerning you. VOs are human beings and human beings are influenced by their personal experiences and such. Your second application will most certainly be reviewed by a different person and if you do your diligence you have a chance at getting your visa. share thoughts, ideas and corrections. - mostblackroad special thanks to Mrs. Kathryn D. for counsel 16 Likes 3 Shares |
