HELL ON EARTH

With the traumatic effects of the Phoenix stone taking a toll on his brother, Stefan (Paul Wesley) attempts to help Damon (Ian Somerhalder) regain his grip on reality, while secretly struggling with his own experience in the stone. Elsewhere, Matt (Zach Roerig) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) deal with the fallout after Julian (guest star Todd Lasance) and his men take over Mystic Falls, leading Matt to spiral out of control and into trouble with an officer named Penny (guest star Ana Nogueira). Meanwhile, Tyler (guest star Michael Trevino) returns to town for Alaric's (Matt Davis) baby shower, and Caroline (Candice King) makes an upsetting discovery involving Alaric and his future plan for the babies.

THE REVERSE FLASH RETURNS

The team discovers Turtle is dead, and Jay suspects Dr. Wells is responsible. Meanwhile, Cisco asks Harrison for help in controlling his vibing abilities. Harrison discovers they are connected to Cisco's fear response, and triggers a vibe that alerts the team that Eobard Thawne, is back. Wells surmises that this version of Eobard is from a point in the future before he went back in time to kill Barry's mother, and was thus protected from being erased with Eddie's sacrifice. Retrofitting goggles to induce Cisco's vibes, the team learn that Eobard is planning to use tachyons to return to his future. Barry arrives and destroys Eobard's tachyon machine. After a race around the city, Barry stops Eobard and imprisons him at the particle accelerator. His capture causes a rupture in the timeline that threatens to kill Cisco. Barry is forced to send Eobard back to the future to save Cisco, but not before telling Eobard that if he returned, he would beat him every time. Meanwhile, Patty discovers Barry is the Flash, but when he refuses to acknowledge, it she chooses to leave the city. Caitlin tries to find a cure for Jay's speed, and she and Jay discover that his Earth One counterpart is Hunter Zolomon.
