sir, i think you dont get the points he is trying to let you know.
now, the season is dry and the soil is very dry. there is no amount of water you will pour at the base of the sucker planted now that will will satisfy the sucker like that of rainfall. if the plantain is already established, that is the suckers are more than 6 months, then irrigation can come in cos the root system of the plantain will have go very deep down to where there is still water in the soil and will also perform better if helped with irrigation. the point here is that a newly planted sucker cant survive well in a dry soil even when irrigation is in place, its only the established plantains that can survive it. check you environment, you will still see old plantain sucker still flourishing, its because their root system has gone so deep to get the needed moisture and nutrient.
Thank you

If one does not start with irrigation as a novice how then does one water the plantain in the dry season?
Agriculture / Re: Starting A Plantain Farming. by Moyanbe(m): 12:33am On Mar 21, 2015
its been a while that i have visited this thread...........
while awaiting the rain to start fully for planting operation to start, the land is being prepared for spacing and other things needed. sincerely, the land preparation aspect is one of the toughest part because slash and burn system was the system adopted. In the process of packing the dried thickets and woods together for burning, there are issues of the thickets and woods not really burning to the satisfied stage but it has to be burned again.
before you check the pics, i will like to say that farming in the tropical world/system is still in a crude way especially in the rain forest zone of Nigeria where there is thick vegetation and woody plants. therefore, before you venture into any farming business, you must be highly determined cos the unexpected can happen.
i will keep updating more on the activities going on on this land, i believe seeing the pictures will educate more,
Thanks

Good day friends...its been a while..I have seen many posts and replies..anyway,in all the posts,no one borders to mention how to prevent diseases. Na the profit we dey look at and how to setup.
If you are starting up a plantain farm, you must be able to take care of the disease aspect. Its like you are feeding a big child that is sick,on the long run it will lose weight (I.e yield). Today I was at the land I will be setting up for plantain farm for one of my client at a village called ihunbo in idi iroko of Ogun state. On my way to the farm to the farm to see the work the labourers are doing,I saw a plantain that has a disease called BBTV ( banana bunchy top virus). I want to snap the pic but was not allowed by the villagers. I want all of us to be aware that plantain has enemies in conclusion,I will try to snap the picture when next I go there. Good morning

Agriculture / Re: Did U Think Agriculture Deserves D 5years Degree Programme???? by Moyanbe(m): 7:25pm On Oct 10, 2014
studying agriculture may worth the five years or not..it depends on how you see it. Am an agricultural student of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. in short form(Funaab) and am proud to be. As an agric student,I do visit farmers, check what they practise and how its being done. I later see that most of the practise are not improved, but for me,I can't do that cos I believe that there must be a research field and use the result gotten to improve the farming system
To cut my long story short, agriculture is a complex science with many branches... so the five years may be applicable
Thanks

Sports / Defend Yourself Against An Attacker – Self Dence Moves For Women by Moyanbe(m): 11:30pm On May 27, 2013

More often than not, the world is a more dangerous place for women as compared to men. Women are usually the target of assaults such as car-nap, rape, holdup, domestic violence, and other crimes.
Most assaults happen in split seconds and although the most common reaction of people when confronted with danger is to run, it could not always be the best solution especially if you have nowhere to run to or call for help. In fact, running might only lead to more aggression from the attacker. Thus, it is important that women learn how to defend themselves using self-defense techniques
Here are Few Tips to make the right posture to Defend Yourself</b>
Avoid Facing Threats Head On - If you already suspect an attack, it is best to step one foot back to help point the vulnerable parts of your body away from such attack. It is not advisable to face the attack head on. Make sure that your body, specifically your abdomen, is well protected. Stepping one foot back can provide stability against the grabbing and pushing of your assailant and reduces your front profile.
Keeping Hands Up - In most full contact fighting like boxing and MMA, it is important to keep the hands up. This is to ensure that you would be able to intercept blows to your head. However, it is not advisable to make fists when raising your hands since it would give the hint to the attacker that you want to fight.
Keeping the Feet Shoulder-Width Apart- Usually women tend to narrow the distance between their feet during attacks or assaults. This is a huge mistake because they can trip easily or be shoved around by the attacker. It is also a mistake to keep a huge distance between your feet because it can keep you from running fast. This is why it is best to keep your feet shoulder-width apart.

In Conclusion
It is best to practice these self-defense postures to be prepared in assault situations. Like many say,Practice makes perfect.
