Christianity EtcNigeria @ 58: Why Nigeria Is Not Great – Pastor Kumuyi by mrakeli62(op): 6:52am On Oct 01, 2018
General Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church Worldwide, Pastor William Kumuyi, on Sunday said Nigeria had been unable to march its development with inherent possibilities because of the people’s failure to either harness or utilise the nation’s diversity for their collective greatness.

He said that Nigeria was endowed with resourceful citizens who could drive the nation to envious heights.

However, he regretted that contentions and divisions had deprived the citizens of personal and national greatness in times past.

Kumuyi stressed that Nigeria would be on the path to greatness if citizens were united and there was a harmonious coordination of the nation’s diversities.

He said: “No doubt, our nation, like the Corinthian church, is endowed with highly resourceful citizens by the Almighty God.

“Selfless and committed to our national development, we could easily become the envy of many nations but our national development has not matched our great possibilities like Corinth.

“Each one has an important part to play in the development of the nation.

“In the nation, mutual support and encouragement, sincere recognition and involvement of all well-meaning and qualified citizens are necessary to avoid wastage of lives and resources.

“We can and we must put the past behind us to build a great nation for the present and the coming generations.

“Interdependent, interconnected, interrelated, we are on our way to national greatness: we are unstoppable.”

CareerNAF Trains 90 Pilots Boosts Air Fleet With 49 Planes Helicopters In Three Years by mrakeli62(op): 6:13am On Oct 01, 2018
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) said weekend it boosted its air fleet with 49 fighter planes and attack helicopters in the last three years.

During the same period, the air force said it reactivated 15 helicopters and trained 90 pilots.

Also, following the air crash in Abuja last Friday that led to the death of a pilot participating in an aerial display in preparation for Nigeria’s 58th independence celebrations, the Minister of Defence, Brigadier General Mansur Dan Ali (rtd), paid a courtesy call on the family of the deceased pilot.

A statement issued by Air Force spokesman, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola in Abuja said “in terms of equipment disposition, the Chief of Air Staff disclosed that, with the support of the federal government, the NAF had acquired and inducted 18 brand new aircraft into the service, while also reactivating 13 others that were previously unserviceable; bringing to 31 the total number of aircraft that had come into service in the last three years”.

“NAF was also expecting the delivery of additional 6 brand new attack helicopters procured from Italy along with the 12 Super Tucano aircraft expected from the United States of America, which would significantly boost NAF’s aircraft holding by the end of 2020.

“Such unprecedented acquisition of aircraft was last witnessed in the early 80s. He therefore thanked the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, as well as the National Assembly for their continued support to the service.

“The CAS also highlighted that, in line with his capacity building initiatives, the service had embarked on massive training in all NAF specialties.

“For instance, the NAF had produced 90 pilots in the last 3 years and had trained many personnel in various fields of information communication technology and engineering, both locally and abroad”, he said.

CelebritiesKanye West Dresses Up Like A Sparkling Water Bottle In ‘SNL’ Performance by mrakeli62(op): 6:54am On Sep 30, 2018
Kanye West had fans scratching their heads after his performance of ‘I Love It’ on ‘SNL’!

The ever-controversial Kanye West gave a bizarre performance of “I Love It” with Lil Pump on SNLas the show’s musical guest for the Season 44 premiere. As some fans questioned whether this was a sketch or not, Kanye literally dressed up as a Perrier bottle. We’ll repeat that, a Perrier bottle. Watch Yeezy try to rap while dressed as a sparkling water bottle below.

When it comes to finding out what Kanye was planning, we were literally in the dark. While appearing in a promo for the variety show, Kanye was asked by Adam what he was planning and he remained completely quiet. The only thing that had some fans worried was the MAGA hat he decided to wear for the promo.

Despite all of the controversy surrounding Kanye lately, what with his recent shade he threw at Drake, Nick Cannon and Tyson Beckford, he has since at least buried the hatch with one of them. According to reports, Kanye and Nick exchanged phone numbers and had a long phone call where they hashed things out.

HealthRed Cross Trains FCT Tricycle Operators On First Aid by mrakeli62(op): 8:41pm On Sep 29, 2018
The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), on Saturday, trained commercial tricycle operators in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on First Aid and basic emergency response on roads.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training was organised by the Keke Operators Positive Initiative (KOPI), an NGO, geared toward the well being and common interest of tricycle operators.

Over 100 tricycle operators from different quarters, tricycle owners and KOPI board members were present at the training, which took place at Karshi community in Abuja.

They were taken through basic courses in First Aid such as recovery position for conscious and unconscious victims, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and bleeding among others.

Mr Hassan Shettima, the National President of KOPI, said that the training was to equip tricycle operators with basic First Aid knowledge in order to curb avoidable deaths resulting from road traffic accidents.

According to him, the numbers of tricycle operators and commuters are increasing across the FCT, and there is need to build their awareness and confidence to know what to do in emergency situations.

“Tricycles constitute about one-third of commercial transportation in many parts of Abuja, including its suburbs.

“Having the operators trained on first aid will readily provide quickest response to casualties and avoid delayed assistance in emergency situations on our roads.

“Knowledge of First Aid, especially by road users, has over the years proven to be very effective, safe and simple, and that is what we want for these operators of Keke,” he said.

Shettima explained that the training, which was first its kind for tricycle operators in the territory, would be sustained and extended to other quarters for increased participation.

He, therefore, commended officials of the Red Cross for the training opportunity, while urging continuity to enable other members of the group participates in it.

Mrs Jane Nnena, the NRCS officer, who handled the sessions, told NAN that the training would prepare the volunteers to be stakeholders in saving lives of road users.

According to her, First Aid is provided to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening, or to promote recovery.

She explained that the two-day training would cover how to handle Breathing, Bleeding, Burns, choking and fracture of the bone, among others other accident situations.

“First Aid is the assistance given to any person suffering from sudden illness or injury before a professional medical service is administered.

“Training affords a person the opportunity to provide care for accident victims, thereby saving lives, protecting them from further injury for safe transport to the hospital.

“Accidents and sudden illnesses could occur at work places, homes, schools or the market place, hence the need for training and provision of First Aid kits,” she noted.

Nnena noted that the knowledge of First Aid should be acquired by every individual in the society, irrespective of their status, to enhance humanitarian action among members of the public.

PoliticsLagos 2019: Ambode Dares Tinubu, Says 'I Won’t Step Down' by mrakeli62(op): 1:15pm On Sep 29, 2018
The battle for the soul of Lagos State took a strange twist yesterday when Governor Akinwunmi Ambode boldly told a meeting of leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, at the Bourdillon, Ikoyi home of the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that he will not step down for their preferred candidate in the 2019 governorship race in the state.

The meeting chaired by Tinubu and called under the banner of Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) the most powerful clique in Lagos APC also had in attendance outgoing governor of Osun, Rauf Aregbesola, his newly elected successor, Gboyega Oyetola, Ambode and other members of the 22-member council.

A reliable source at the meeting told Saturday Sun that “Ambode was told in plain terms that the party will not support his second term ambition and as such should step down for the candidate the party members are clamouring for. But throughout the whole discussion and till the meeting ended, the governor stood his ground, explaining why he must run and that he will run if APC desires to win the state.”

The governor was said to have listed his achievements to convince the party leaders who equally failed to shift ground. “He was busy speaking grammar when no single member at the meeting supported him. We wish him luck”, the source added.

The meeting however ended with a directive to the State Working Committee of the party to address a press conference today, Saturday at the party’s secretariat on Acme road, Ikeja where the preferred governorship candidate Jide Sanwo-Olu and his running mate, Femi Hamzat will be officially presented to party members to vote for at the governorship primaries scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday.

The Ambode camp however appears determined to enter into full battle with Tinubu and his men. A source close to the governor told Saturday Sun yesterday that, “Tinubu and his men are jokers, if they fail to present Ambode for second term, they will lose Lagos like they lost Osun, forget the eventual manipulation of the final result.”

“Ambode is the party’s poster boy, and that’s why President Buhari asked the SGF, Boss Mustapha to wade into the Lagos ticket issue but if they ignore even the president’s intervention, they will be doomed like Osun. Nigerians will see that Tinubu is overrated as has shown in Osun. You can see that the president had to send Fayemi, Oshiomhole and others to step into the Osun election, the presidential emissaries didn’t go to meet Tinubu and Aregbesola who were in Osogbo before they went straight to meet Omisore in Ile-Ife, that shows how less they regard him”, the source added.

The Ambode camp had hoped that yesterday’s meeting will end in their favour but was shocked by the insistence of the party leaders that the governor must step down.

Celebrities‘the Day I Die, I Want To Die With A Smile,’ Says Femi Kuti by mrakeli62(op): 4:20am On Sep 29, 2018
Afrobeat legend, Femi Anikulapo Kuti has said that the day he would die, he would like to die with a smile. He made the disclosure during listening party of his 10th studio album titled One People, One World, which held last Saturday, September 22, at the Sheraton Hotels, Ikeja, Lagos.

Tagged, ‘A Night with Femi Kuti’, Femi Kuti left the Afrikan Shrine for the poolside of the upscale hotel, brought the music to his fans, alongside Ruby Gyang, Nonso Bassey and Etuk Ubong, and delivering riveting performances for all who gathered.

Boasting a career that spanned four decades, the Afrobeat maestro, alongside members of his Positive Force band took to the stage and opened his performance with the classic, Truth don die.

As his music majesty, he exhibited and perfectly in sync with his band, his focus on getting every movement right, with his facial expressions and gaiety dance showing attributes of someone who has perfected the act of live performances.

Femi also performed some of his other classic records like Africa For Africa, Politics na Big Business, Wonder Wonder and Bang Bang Bang, which generated a loud response from the crowd, before introducing songs from the new album, the future as he calls it.

On what new influences are on the new album, Femi said, ‘’I have not listened to music since 2000, of course when you go to the mall or visit places, you hear music here and there, but I never go out of my way to listen to music.’’

“In the beginning, it was my father who got me listening to music but I read a Miles Davis book, where he said, I wanted to be original, so I stopped listening to music, so I took to that and stopped allowing influences,’’ he added.

Asked what he hopes the album will inspire in people: ‘’I think it will inspire people, the title of the album says it, and we do have to understand that we are one people. The day I die, I want to die with a smile, I am 56 now, I am not afraid, because I know it will eventually come,’’ he declared.

Speaking on how he manages to keep a positive mindset, the legend says: “we have to remain optimistic, there has to be balance in this life. I am sure many of you heard about my bassist absconding. I know this one, he points to his son, Omorinmade, who was on stage, will not abscond,’’

Made was recently announced as an official member of the Positive Force band. Femi Kuti made official announcement on his Instagram page on September 12, revealing that Made has already began touring with the rest of the band in Belgrade and Paris.“Omorinmade (my son) now a proud member of my band and I leaving tonight with the positive force band to Belgrade to perform with the Philamonic orchestra and Paris,” Femi wrote.

CareerNNPC Tasks Workers On Recession by mrakeli62(op): 3:01am On Sep 29, 2018
The group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr Maikanti Baru, has appealed to workers in the oil and gas industry to sustain the industrial harmony the sector has enjoyed in recent times. Baru reminded the workers that the sector is central to the nation’s economy and was key in helping the country overcome the recent recession, stressing that oil workers owe the country the duty to ensure that the nation does not slip back to the slum. The GMD commended the two national industry unions: the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), for the exceptional maturity they have displayed at critical moments on issues affecting the industry. He assured that the NNPC would continue to partner the unions in the interest of the nation and the industry workers, saying the corporation’s doors are open to the union leadership to move the sector forward collaboratively. Baru also disclosed that NNPC had 37-day Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise called petrol, self- sufficiency, assuring that all the corporation’s depots nationwide have abundance of petroleum products to meet the needs of Nigerians and that the depot managers have been put on alert to ensure uninterrupted loading of products in their domains.

PoliticsFire Razes Fruit Market In Port Harcourt by mrakeli62(op): 12:43pm On Sep 28, 2018
An inferno that occurred in the late hours of Thursday has destroyed fruits and other valuable items at the popular Fruit Market at Kaduna Street, in D-line area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The caused of the fire has not been ascertained, but traders attributed the huge loss to delay by fire fighters to arrive at the scene.

Some youth who were rioting, prevented the Fire Service from carrying out their responsibility.

However, Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State, has declared that the state government will come to the aid of the affected traders.

The governor, who described the incident as a great loss to the state, said the state government will rebuild the market in no distant time.

He said: "Government will do what it is supposed to do to ensure that the traders continue to earn a living. It is unfortunate that this has happened. We will look at the immediate and remote causes and we shall also come to the aid of those who are affected by the inferno. Let me assure you that we will do what we can to resolve it."

The governor called for the cooperation of the traders, and pleaded with them to remain calm.

According to Wike, although the Fire Service responded late, they should have been allowed to salvage what they could.

PoliticsCourt Summons EFCC Over Freezing Of Benue Govt Accounts by mrakeli62(op): 11:00am On Sep 28, 2018
The Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi, Benue State capital, has summoned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and two commercial banks to appear before it over the recent freezing of the Benue State Government accounts. The banks are United Bank for Africa (UBA) and Fidelity Bank.

In the writ of summons issued to the defendants, the court has demanded EFCC and the two banks to, within 30 days, state why they carried out their action of freezing Benue State Government accounts.

The Government of Benue State, through the office of Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, is praying the court to declare that EFCC acted against the law when it directed the banks to freeze its accounts.

The State Government is also demanding a declaration of the court that by freezing the said accounts, EFCC denied the government the right to operate and transact on the affected accounts.

The suit also seeks the verdict of the court to the effect that a state government’s account maintained with any bank or financial institution in Nigeria does not fall within the class of bank accounts liable to be frozen by EFCC.

Another relief sought by the Benue State Government is an order of perpetual injunction restraining the EFCC or its agents from freezing accounts held in UBA and Fidelity Bank or any other bank.

The State Government is also demanding N30,000,000,000 from the defendants as damages suffered during the periods the accounts were frozen. The case comes up on October 8 this year, for hearing.

It will be recalled that the EFCC, on August 7, 2018, ordered the freezing of Benue State Government’s accounts in UBA and Fidelity banks, a decision that adversely affected government business for some days.

PoliticsNigeria Can Make Money Through Tourism Than Oil, Experts Tells FG by mrakeli62(op): 3:44am On Sep 27, 2018
A Professor of Theatre Arts at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State, Dr. Rasaki Ojo-Bakare, has advised the federal government to make development of tourism potential of the country a priority, saying the sector can take the economy to higher pedestal than what the oil can do.

Bakare particularly regretted the poor attentions the Ekiti State Government is paying to the sector, adding that tourist attractions in Ekiti West Local Government alone can pay the salary of workers, if properly harnessed without further depending on federal allocation for sustenance.

The academic spoke in Aramoko Ekiti wednesday during a press conference heralding the 2018 edition of Aramoko cultural heritage Festival tagged ‘ARAFEST ‘ .

Bakare disclosed that over 100 celebrities are expected at the programme slated for between November 6 and 11 and sponsored by Aramoko Development Association (ADA).

He said the cultural fiesta was targeted at launching the tourism potential of Ekiti to the global scene and make it the hub of Arts and Culture in Africa, particularly the ones that has to do with traditions and culture in the town.

The scholar lamented that the country was losing multi-billion dollars yearly due to the lip service being paid to the development of Arts and culture as well as hospitality businesses.

“We can’t gain saying the fact that Nigeria is losing for not paying attention to tourism business. Tourism if well- handled will take Nigeria to where oil has not taken us to.

“Though, those in charge of tourism sector have not been able to prove that Nigeria can make money through tourism. Tourism is bringing people to your doorsteps to see your culture.

“Many countries like Gambia, Tanzania and Kenya are making big money from tourism. In Ekiti alone, activities of tourism along Ikogosi, Ipole Iloro and across Ekiti West alone can pay salaries of workers

in Ekiti.

“Let us just assume a situation whereby the federal government sites a globally accepted film village around this place, this will bring many film makers to Ekiti and our economy will go up.

Speaking on the 2018 edition of the ARAFEST carnival, Bakare said the

cultural fiesta will feature a lecture, titled: “The place of Aramoko in the history of Yoruba’, which will be delivered by an emeritus professor of history.

He said the annual programme was introduced by ADA to stop crime rate, generate revenue and employment for the locals and expose them to the outside world.

“It will also feature traditional sports and games competition, competition for the preparation of traditional cuisine and Bush bar, comprising local meals and drinks, traditional wrestling competition, and beauty contest.

“It is going to be a carnival where traditional guards, hunters,

traditional priests , masqueraders will display artistic performances that typify them.

The President of ADA, Dr. Isaac Aladeloye, said no efforts will be

spared to protect the cultural heritage of the town and that the

ARAFEST was one of the moves targeted at making the town preserves its core values of bravery, contentment and brotherliness.

PoliticsBuhari Divided Nigeria More Than Any Past President – Atiku by mrakeli62(op): 5:41pm On Sep 26, 2018
Former Vice President and presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar says Nigeria has never been more divided than it currently is under President Muhammadu Buhari.

Atiku, who was in Anambra to seek the support of delegates of the party, said the country was divided because it made the mistake of electing the wrong president.

The former Vice President, who was given a rousing welcome in Awka by members of PDP and his supporters, said, “Our country is at a cross road today. I have never seen this country so divided than it is today.

“We are more divided as a country today simply because we mistakenly elected a president who has succeeded in dividing us the more. I have seen the pre-civil war days, the civil war days and the post civil war days, but I have never seen Nigeria as divided as we are today.”

He further stated that, “This is because we elected a government that is completely insensitive to our diversity, and completely insensitive to our welfare. We elected a government that crashed Nigeria into a recession from an economy that was growing at a 6 per cent GDP and up till now we are trying to recover from the recession.

“Today we have the highest unemployment rate in our history. Over 12million young men and women. Today our health sector is performing very very minimal. Nigeria is at the bottom as far as health care is concerned. Almost every African country is ahead of Nigeria.

“In almost every socio-economic indicator, we are doing worse today. This is a government we must vote out next year. For the welfare of our children and grand children, this is a government we must not allow to return to power next year. I beg of you all, it is not about me, but about the future of our children, we must unite to make sure we don’t vote for APC any more,” Atiku said.

Speaking on restructuring, Atiku said he has been championing restructuring for years, stressing that one thing the country must do was to give every part the opportunity to govern itself and also develop at its pace.

“We must not continue to have a country where every state rushes to Abuja to pick up money to develop their states. We will begin by restructuring and that will help states to achieve whatever they want to achieve without hindrance,” he said.

The presidential aspirant said he was pained that people in the south eastern part of Nigeria have to fly to Abuja or Lagos before travelling outside the country, whereas an international airport was supposed to be sited in the zone.

“I promise you that as your president we will build an international airport in the east, not the type they(APC) are talking about, but one that is truly international, that would have flights to parts of the world, so that you don’t have to travel to Abuja or Lagos before traveling out of this country.

“I want to beg you to give me that opportunity. To give me the opportunity is to let me have the ticket. I urge you to join hands with me so we can develop our regions again and reclaim our country again.”

Speaking earlier, the state chairman of the party, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu promised the aspirant support from the state, while urging him not to forget promises made by him when he becomes president.
