Politics / Letter To Sanwo-olu by mrakeli62: 3:58am On Jul 05, 2019
Rev. Fr. Leo Muoneme, S.J.,

St. Francis Catholic Secondary School, Lagos State:

Dear Mr. Sanwo-Olu,

Congratulations on your election as the governor of the largest state economy in Nigeria. You have inherited the legacy of many hardworking predecessors. An authentic leader is one that makes a difference. I beseech you to make a difference in many sectors, including the aspects of transport and security.

The roads from Isolo to Ejigbo and Ejibo to Ikoton are deplorable and disgraceful. Ikotun roads are dreadful and non-existent. On a rainy day, it is better to use a canoe than to be in a vehicle. The road to Ejigbo from the major express road is like a surface hit by multiple asteroids. The NNPC junction is a magnet of drama 24/7. There are so many hourglass clock effects that make a journey from Isolo to Ikotun take as long as five hours.

This is a passionate appeal to you to rise to the challenge and fix the deplorable roads across the length and breadth of the state.

Politics / 5 Things You Need To Know About Senator Elisha Cliff Abbo by mrakeli62: 11:19am On Jul 03, 2019
The #SenatorElishaAbbo and #Senatorstepdown have been trending online since Tuesday when online news platform posted a CCTV video showing Senator Elisha Cliff Abbo was seen assaulting a saleswoman in a intimacy gadget shop in Abuja.

But who is he? Here are five facts about him:

Ishaku Elisha Cliff Abbo is a Nigerian politician.
He is the senator representing the Adamawa North Adamawa State senatorial district in Adamawa State in the Nigerian 9th National Assembly.
At 41, he is the youngest senator elected into the 9th Senate.
On February 23, 2019, Abbo was elected as the Senator representing Adamawa North, having polled 79,337 votes as against the incumbent senator, Binta Masi Garba of the APC, who scored the closest votes with 63,219.
Sues NNTC for Discriminating his HIV Status

On February 9th 2004, Mr Cliff Elisha Ishaku took the authorities of the Nigerian Naval Training College (NNTC), Onne, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to court for allegedly denying him admission into the college on the grounds of his health status despite passing the recruitment test.
In a legal action instituted on his behalf by the vice chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja Chapter, Barrister Jude Okeke, at the Abuja Federal High Court, Ishaku is seeking among others, a declaration that his withdrawal from the School, by the Naval College and the Ministry of Defence on account of his testing positive to HIV virus is illegal, unlawful and breach of his fundamental right to personal dignity.

Criticism

On July 2, 2019, Abbo was caught in the act of physically abusing a nursing mother inside a sex shop in Abuja. In his response to the criticism, Abbo claimed the adult store owner called him a drunk.

In the CCTV video that has been widely circulated on social media, Elisha Abbo is aided by a Nigerian police officer who also participates in assaulting the females.

So many Nigerians have however frowned at not just the senator’s barbaric and animalistic behaviour, but also that of the uniformed Nigerian police officer whom the Nigerian police force has refused to fish out, for not just keeping quiet, but also joining hands in the assault by arresting the woman in question, who was at the time a nursing mother.

Once looked upon as a new face of the youth in politics, Elisha has been shamed and disowned for such a behaviour unfitting for a public office holder.

There are protests ongoing for his arrest. See below a video of the protests as posted on Twitter by Amplified Radio @AmplifiedR:

On-Air Personality (AOP) with Max FM, Debbie, posted the Premium Times video on her handle, describing the senator’s action as “disgusting”. She is one of many celebrities who have criticised the lawmaker’s actions.

Politics / Gov Ihedioha Gives Okorocha 24 Hours To Handover by mrakeli62: 3:41pm On Jun 03, 2019
The Imo state governor, Emeka Ihedioha, has given the immediate past Governor of Imo, Rochas Okorocha up to midnight of Tuesday June 4, 2019 to do a proper handover to his government.

Ihedioha spoke at the Government House in Owerri, during the swearing into office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Uche Onyeaguocha and Chief of Staff, Chris Okewulonu.

The governor afterwards ordered the Permanent Secretary, and Head of Service, under Okorocha, to quickly prepare all the necessary documents and hand them over to the SSG, and Chief of Staff, before tomorrow’s midnight.

The governor also wanted Imo people who desired to have a feel of the dilapidation in the government house at the moment, to feel free to do so.

Ihedioha’s warning is coming days after it was reported in Vanguard that he claimed that it has been very difficult for him as governor to operate from the current Imo state government House and in addition, he did not have documents to work on as a governor.

As it is now, Ihedioha is yet to make public where he will be operating from to administer his official duties as the governor of the state, for the meantime.

Ihedioha briefly said: “I direct Head of Service and Permanent Secretary, to ensure a complete handover of all government properties, the last administration utilised on behalf of Imo people to SSG and Chief of Staff of Imo state government. I want the process to be completed by midnight tomorrow.

“I spoke to Imo people that we will start work we will resume work. We will give no excuses of not performing. We will give dividend of democracy irrespective of the status of the state of facilities I inherited.

“The government that ended was not prepared to handover or ready to receive us. I thank Imo people for receiving us and we shall serve the state with the fear of God.”

Politics / Another APC Group Backs Demands For Oshiomhole‘s Resignation by mrakeli62: 3:34pm On May 31, 2019
A good governance advocacy group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Rivers Unity House (RUH), has endorsed calls for the resignation of APC’s National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.

The RUH’s Convener, Kingsley Wali, announced the group’s endorsement of such calls on Friday in Port Harcourt during an interactive session with journalists.

According to Wali, Oshiomhole is responsible for 96 per cent of the challenges faced by the party in the 2019 general elections.

Wali said: “It is a natural thing in politics that whenever there are losses, people have to be held accountable for those losses.

“There is need to identify the people who made it possible for the party to suffer any kind of loss.

“Just like if the party enjoys a decent measure of victory, it will obviously point out those who made it possible and then, compensate them for making it possible.

“So, those who are responsible for the body-blows APC received should be identified and made accountable so it discourages this kind of attitude.

“I am one person who has been consistent with the position that Mr. Adams Oshiomhole is 96 per cent responsible for the problems APC had.

“It boils down to nothing but somebody feeling that he knows everything and no other person is smarter than him.

“I think the reasonable thing to do is for APC as a party to ask Adams Oshiomole to vacate the seat.

“If we insist on understanding or characterising the next level slogan of APC, the kind of attitude that Adams Oshiomhole exhibited cannot be in tandem with the President’s vision on Nigeria.’’

The group also lauded the APC’s Deputy National Chairman (North), Alhaji Lawan Shuaibu, for the courage to tell Oshiomhole to vacate his office.

Its convener also said: “Of what is a party Chairman who does not take any form of criticism; once even if it is one councillor in Karadamuda or Akassa, that says something about him, he replies in the same measure.

“I want to applaud the Deputy National Chairman (North), Alhaji Lawan Shuaibu for what he said in the very elaborate letter he sent asking Oshiomole to vacate office.

“That is a point that the man was running a one-man show. Like I said before, I worry because where we are heading for might not be too nice.

“Like Alhaji Shuaibu said, all it takes for the PDP to control the National Assembly is two seats or six or seven stubborn APC senators.

“It is a done deal. And the same man is there threatening hell fire and brimstone about how APC will not do any business with PDP. In 2019, you still see the other party as party of enemies? Who does that?’’

Wali pointed out that in other political climes, once you lead a party and the party failed to do well on an election, you have to go.

“Let us not demean ourselves with the fact that we won the Presidency. What about the governorship seats?

“Did we gain more senatorial seat now that we did in 2015? No. So if you look at it properly, APC lost in this last election.

“We are just lucky that the profile of the President got us to where we are today that we control the Presidency,’’ he said.

Politics / FG Will Diversify Economy Through Technology Application – Onu by mrakeli62: 8:33am On May 26, 2019
Federal Government will deploy technology to diversify the economy, Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonanaya Onu, said.

He said this at the launch of the Solid Minerals Machinery and Equipment Development Institute (SOMMEDI) in Nasarawa.

According to him, such effort will promote the country from being a consumer nation to a producer nation.

He said “the Solid Minerals Machinery and Equipment Development Institute is very important to the diversification programme of Federal Government.

“President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to making sure that our economy is diversified. The reason for this is that we cannot continue to import into our country, the things that we can indeed produce by ourselves.

“This is why this institute is very important because it will also help us to design, produce, and manufacture machinery and equipment for processing of solid minerals and by so doing, jobs will be created for our people.”

The minister also said that some organisations would be engaged in producing spare parts of the machines that could be sent to the factory for assembling.

Onu commended the Nasarawa State Government for collaborating with Federal Government toward establishing SOMMEDI and urged the state government to secure the equipment in the institute.

The Governor of Nasarawa State, Tanko Al-makura, said SOMMEDI was one of the results of the good relationship between Federal Government and Nasarawa State Government.

He added that SOMMEDI was established through collaboration between the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and the Nasarawa State Government.

He said “the collaboration was articulated and implemented through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on March 23, 2012.”

The governor promised that the state would support the institute to experience rapid development.

The NASENI Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Sani Haruna, said SOMMEDI was established as a mono-mandate institute of NASENI to design, develop, fabricate and mass produce solid minerals mining and processing tools, machinery and equipment.

Haruna said “the institute is also to provide the enabling environment for sustainable industrialisation of the mining and solid minerals sector and to transfer developed technologies to manufacturers, mining operators, mineral processors and SMES in the sector.

“The goals of SOMMEDI are to improve and revolutionise mining operations in Nigeria by providing necessary tooling through need-oriented Research and Development and applications for optimal productivity, efficiency, skills and economic growth.

“It is to provide intervention programmes for value addition toward achieving sustained commercialisation of technologies, technical innovations and inventions, using advanced technologies to enhance attainment of industrial, social and economic competitiveness and improve quality of living.”

“The institute is to use advanced technologies for material identification and characterisation of minerals.”

Haruna said the institute would serve as capacity building enhancement, skill acquisition, research and development in the area of solid minerals development and processing, solid minerals machinery and equipment design, development and production.

According to him, SOMMEDI will invent and deploy robotics, unmanned machinery and Artificial Intelligence techniques for mineral exploration and processes.

He maintained that the institute wound provide consultancy services in chemical analysis of minerals, mineralogical analysis of minerals, exploration and geology, mine planning, design and optimisation, mineral processing, test-design and plant design.(NAN)

Politics / Kaduna Guber: Court Rules On Vote Recount Next Week by mrakeli62: 6:32pm On May 25, 2019
The Kaduna State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has adjourned to Tuesday, May 27, for ruling on the motion for a recount of ballot papers brought before it by the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Isa Muhammad Ashiru.

The Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Ibrahim M. Bako, adjourned the sitting after a hot debate for or against the recount motion filed by the PDP’s governorship candidate.

Counsels to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Governor Nasir el-Rufai and the All Progressives Congress (APC), Messer Aliyu Umar, Abdulhakeem Mustapha and Lawal Bawa, argued against the recounting motion at the resumption of the pre-trial on Saturday.

It would be recalled that the petitioners, Ashiru and PDP, on Tuesday, May 14, filed a motion urging the tribunal to order for the recount of the entire ballot in the March 9 governorship poll in the state.

Justice Bako had adjourned to Saturday, May 25, 2019, to allow the three respondents in the PDP petition, governor-elect, El-Rufai, APC and INEC to file their responses.

Also, at the resumed hearing in the motion which is part of the pre-hearing sittings, the PDP applied to amend its earlier application for the recount of the entire ballot to 12 local government areas mostly in the central and northern parts of the state.

The petitioners applied for the recount in Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Igabi, Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Zaria, Sabon Gari, Makarfi, Kudan, Kubau, Soba and Ikara local government areas mostly won by the APC.

Mr. Emmanuel Ukala, told newsmen after the adjournment that: “What we have done this morning is to move the motion for the ballot recount, which is to recount the ballot papers in certain local government areas where we are saying that votes were simply allocated.

“We are saying that in order to meet the justice of the case, it is proper to have that recount. We are surprise that INEC who conducted the election and respondents who said they had won the election, would shy away from wanting that recount to be done.

“The application we have made in the court had been made in the past, they even cited the case of Oshiomhole and INEC where recounting was done and it has been done in other cases.

“So it is something that we know in our jurisprudence. We just want a recount and whatever the result turns out to be we will be happy and abide by it.

“We also filed motions to strike out certain paragraphs of their response, because once those paragraphs are struck out, they will definitely have nothing to respond too,“ Ukala said.

However, counsel to INEC, Mr Aliyu Umar, said there was a motion asking for a recount by the petitioner, but was opposed to by the respondents.

“And a ruling is going to be delivered on Tuesday next week on whether there is going to be a recount of those ballot papers.

“We opposed the recount because, in all legal contest especially election matters, you are supposed to state the fact upon which you are challenging the election.

“There are normally three grounds to challenge the outcome of an election, which are non-compliance, corrupt practices or the person declared was not elected by majority of lawful votes. They now lump up these three processes together,” Umar said.

Mr. Abdulhakeem Mustapha, counsel to El-Rufai also told newsmen that: “We are also opposed to that application because it is not in consonance with the extant provisions of the relevant electoral laws.

“What they are trying to do is that through the back door, move the court to grant an application that will decide the matter at the preliminary stage.

“We opposed to it and we marshalled our point that this is not the right time for that type of application,” Mustapha said.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has issued permits to Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company and Eko Electricity Distribution Company Meter Asset Providers in accordance with section 4(3) of the MAP regulations NERC- R-112 of 2018.
Dr. Usman Arabi, General Manager, Public Affairs of NERC, in a statement on Thursday said the MAPs were successful in the procurements conducted by Kaduna and Eko DisCos.
Arabi said section 4(3) of the MAP regulation 2018 required all electricity distribution licensees to engage MAPs that would assist, as investors, in closing the metering gap and thus eliminate the practice of estimated billing in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.
According to him, Kaduna DisCo has appointed Crest Hill Engineering Ltd, Holley Metering Ltd, Integrated Power Nigeria Ltd and Mojec International Ltd to supply meters in its coverage areas.
He said Eko DisCo had also appointed Armese Consulting Ltd, Bendoricks Integrated Ltd, CIG Metering Assets Nigeria Limited, Gospel DigitalTechnology, Integrated Resources Limited, Mojec International Ltd and Turbo Energy Ltd to provide meters within its franchise under MAP.
Arabi explained that the commission had directed that the rollout of meters would commence not later than May 1.

“MAPs shall charge an upfront amount of N36,991.50 for single phase meters and N67,055.85 for three phase meters.
“These costs of meters are inclusive of supply, installation, maintenance and replacement of meters over its technical life.”
The NERC spokesperson said the commission shall monitor closely the rollout plan of distribution licensees and overall compliance with the regulations and various service agreements by the MAP and electricity distribution licensees.

Politics / I Didn’t Visit Venezuela To Cut Oil Deals, Says Kalu by mrakeli62: 4:24pm On May 23, 2019
Dr Orji Kalu, Senator-elect for Abia North Senatorial District on Wednesday said his visit to Venezuela was a peace initiative of the Orji Kalu Foundation and its partners across the world.

A statement made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by Mr Kunle Oyewunmi of Orji Kalu Media Office said it was contrary to speculations reported on social media platforms that the former governor of Abia met with President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro to cut oil deals.

Kalu, who did not disclose full details of the peace moves, said there must be peace and harmony for any nation to thrive.

He said that he also used the opportunity to meet with members of the Afro-Venezuelan community.

Kalu called on the governments of United States of America, United Kingdom, China, Russia, Nigeria and others to fashion out an inclusive and integrated strategy to overcome the crisis facing Venezuela.

He, however, pointed out that foreign leaders and diplomatic corps across the world are deliberating on the challenges being faced by Venezuela in a bid to restore peace and normalcy.

“I am in Venezuela in my capacity as the founder and chief promoter of Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation.

“The visit is in line with our foundation’s objective of promoting peace across the world.

“We are working with development partners and critical stakeholders to ensure peace and prosperity in Venezuela.

“We are living in a global community and as such, we must continue to promote and sustain peace initiatives across the world,” Kalu said.

Kalu noted that upon his return to Nigeria, he would brief President Muhammadu Buhari and convey a note from Maduro to the Nigerian leader.

Politics / 9th Assembly: CLO Urges Nigeria’s Restructuring by mrakeli62: 12:12pm On May 23, 2019
The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has told the incoming National Assembly to make laws that would engender Nigeria’s restructuring.

The group said that restructuring some aspects of the 1999 Constitution would decentralise Nigeria’s wealth.

The Chairman of the CLO in Lagos State, Mr Ehi Omokhuale, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Thursday.

According to him, decentralizing the country’s wealth will ensure self-reliance for citizens and provide equal opportunities for everyone.

“The 9th assembly members should make laws that will compel a restructuring of the aspects of our constitution that will decentralise our wealth.

“There are different classes of citizens not equally endowed. That is why Section 16 (1) prescribes equal economic opportunities.’’

He noted that the imbalance in the management of the country’s wealth had caused suspicion, frustration and resistance in the administration of the nation.

Omokhuale expressed his regrets that Nigeria’s constitution favoured a few, pointing out that there were also inequality in housing opportunities and in disbursing business loans.

He argued that business loans were mostly granted to rich people and political allies and that the loans were hardly paid back, noting that micro, small and medium businesses were often ignored.

The activist suggested that states and Local Government Councils should be made stronger than the centre as they were at the attainment of the country’s independence.

He said that every region should also be allowed to develop its resources and contribute to the centre, urging the National Assembly to also make laws that would make governance less expensive.

“The full time nature of Nigerian politics has made it a “do or die” affair as it has become a most lucrative industry in our country.

“If professionals in Nigerian politics finish their tenure or lose elections, they should naturally return to their jobs.’’

Omokhuale argued further that if politics was made to be on part-time basis, the humongous allowances and pay packages of lawmakers would be greatly reduced.

He said that the allowances when reduced, would go a long way in funding the country’s budget, instead of depending on foreign loans and grants.

The CLO chief also called for the digitalisation of Nigeria’s electoral processes to curb election rigging, vote buying, violence and other electoral malpractices.

Politics / Joint Account: Call NFIU To Order, Govs Urge Buhari by mrakeli62: 4:51am On May 20, 2019
The 36 state governors of the Federation have pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to call the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) to order, over moves to stop them from tampering with the monthly allocations of local governments.

In a statement by the Head, Media and Public Affairs, Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) Secretariat, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, yesterday, the governors warned the NFIU not to dabble into a matter that is beyond its mandate.

The NFIU had earlier announced, at its inauguration, a ban on transactions on state and local governments joint accounts, arguing that such accounts are only transitional accounts from where funds should go directly to the accounts of local governments.

The NFIU, which was excised from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, set June 1, 2019, as take-off date of the new order and also, also placed a limit on cash withdrawals from local governments accounts to a maximum of N500,000 per day. It warned banks to ensure strict compliance.

The decision was contained in a guideline released by the NFIU after a lengthy meeting with officials of commercial banks in Abuja.

But, governors are angry.

Regardless, NGF Chairman and Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, signed off a letter in which governors expressed “dismay and angst at this brazen attempt by the NFIU to ridicule our collective integrity and show total disregard for the Constitution of the Federal republic of Nigeria (1999), as amended.”

The letter was titled: Re: NFIU Enforcement and Guidelines to Reduce Crime Vulnerabilities Created by Cash Withdrawal from Local Government Funds Throughout Nigeria Effective June 1st, 2019.

They said they extracted “copiously from the constitution,” to draw the attention of the president to section (6) (a) and (b), “which confers on the states and national assemblies the powers to make provisions for statutory allocation of public revenue to the local councils in the federation and within the states, respectively.”

Similarly, the governors added, section 162 (6), which expressly “provides for the creation of the States Joint Local Government Account (SJLGA) into which shall be paid all allocations to the LGAs of the state, from the Federation Account and from the government of the state.”

The NGF chairman said nothing in the NFIU Act, 2018, gives the body the powers that it seeks to exercise in the guidelines that it released.

The governors also argued that the NFIU is acting in excess of its powers and with complete disregard of the constitution of Nigeria and accused the NFIU of “stoking mischief and also deliberately seeking to cause disaffection, chaos and overheat the polity.”

The NGF stressed that local government councils are creation of the constitution and are not financial institutions. The governors, local governments are not reporting entities and are, therefore, not under the NFIU; in the manner contemplated by the NFIU so-called guidelines.

Politics / Photo: Fake Soldier, Robber Arrested In Lagos by mrakeli62: 4:35pm On May 19, 2019
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), a unit of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a fake soldier and a robber.

The fake soldier was arrested along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way near Muritala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja while the robber was caught in action in Oshodi robbing commuters.

The fake soldier, Yusuf Quadri, 22, from Ogun State, was arrested during a cautious stop and search by RRS officers. The suspect was riding a commercial tricycle along Airport Road, which has been restricted by the Lagos State Government.

Quadri, when stopped by the police told the officers he was a military officer. A little probe by the officer revealed he was impersonating the army.

Quadri, a primary school certificate holder disclosed during interrogation that he stole one of the military uniforms of a newly promoted officer, whom he was assisting to get his luggage ready.

He added that he thereafter used the uniform to take a photograph, which he subsequently converted to an identity card.

The suspect, in his confessional statement, told the police that he made use of his military photograph and outfit to by-pass security operatives, Local Government and LASTMA officials who might attempt to arrest him whenever he was on the wrong side of the law. The stolen military uniform was recovered from the suspect’s home.

The robbery suspect, Emeka Ohiaeri, from Imo State had around 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday night pulled off a mobile phone from the hands of a youth corps member in Oshodi traffic.

Unknown to Ohiaeri, RRS operative spotted him and trailed him to where he was standing with his colleagues before arresting him. The phone was recovered from him and handed over to its owner at the RRS Headquarter, Ikeja, the following day.

The suspect confessed to the police that since arriving Oshodi few years ago, he had been surviving through stolen phones, purses and handbags.

He added that he had lost count of the numbers of phones he had collected in traffic. He emphasized that he has a regular buyer for such phones.

Meanwhile Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Muazu Zubairu, has directed that the two suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, adding that RRS reinforce its presence in Oshodi to curb traffic robbery.

Politics / Nnamdi Kanu Alleges ‘real Reason’ Buhari Travelled Out Of Nigeria by mrakeli62: 4:32pm On May 17, 2019
Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has stated that President Muhammadu Buhari left the country to attend to his health.

The presidency had stated that Buhari left for Saudi Arabia following the invitation by King Salman Bin Abdulaziz, the king of Saudi Arabia and Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

A statement by his spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, confirmed that President Buhari would perform the Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) while in the Kingdom.

In his latest broadcast, Kanu alleged that Buhari went for his “periodic” treatment.

He said’: “Jubril Al-Sudani the criminally imported impostor has recently returned from his surgery enhancement in the UK but unfortunately for them he did not travel with his make-up artist because anybody that saw his pictures as he disembarked from the aircraft will know there is something definitely wrong with Nigerians and their eyesight.

“Jubril is now looking as young as Yusuf his adopted son. Please take a look at the picture of the Sudanese most people ignorantly call Buhari to see how daft most Nigerians are. Please put that picture on my official Facebook wall and also share it extensively.

“Jubril went for his periodic bodywork & overhauling. He did so without official handover to Osinbajo as stipulated in their constitution but you have a country, seemingly full of intellectuals but rather populated with cowards who can longer see or hear any evil. This is the man they are planning to swear in on the 29th of this May with the knowledge that he is a confirmed certificate forgery.

“Verifiable evidence after evidence has been presented to the general public and the Judiciary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and her citizens on the forgery of Buhari’s certificate but they will still go ahead to swear him into office because Nigeria is not a country and can never be.

“The Nigerian Police the Legislative and the Executive arms of the government- all Fulanised, are all aware yet nothing is done to effect the legitimacy of the rule of law by enforcing the requirements of a military decree constitution they all swore to uphold. This is the type of country some people shamelessly wake up every morning to defend.”

Politics / ASUU Chairman Sues FUOYE Over Suspension by mrakeli62: 4:05pm On May 14, 2019
Gabriel Omonijo, Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has dragged the institution’s management before the National Industrial Court in Akure over his indefinite suspension.

Omonijo in a suit filed on April 29 by Funmi Falana and Taiwo Olawanle from Falana and Falana’s Chambers, averred that his indefinite suspension without pay by the university was illegal and violated the provisions of the Trade Union Act.

He argued that his suspension did not follow due process as stipulated in the university’s Conditions of Service which was an embodiment of the Acts that established the institution.

The union leader said the investigative panel that recommended his suspension to the university was biased based on its prejudiced composition.

Omonijo said that his suspension without pay by the university was “wrong and unjust’’, claiming that he was only invited in respect of the allegations made in the petition by ASUU to the Minister of Education.

He stated further that the investigative panel saddled with the responsibility to investigate the allegations made in the petition to the minister turned round to place him on suspension without pay due to his position as the Chairman of ASUU in the institution.

The claimant, however, engaged the services of Falana and Falana’s Chambers which wrote the university vide a letter dated March 11, 2019 informing it of the illegality of the constitution of the investigative panel, among others.

He said that the university responded vide a letter dated March 15, and signed by the Acting Registrar, Mrs Olayinka Ajayi, stating that the issues raised in the said letter were receiving attention of the university authorities.

The union leader said that the university was yet to recall him from the suspension since Feb. 14, 2019 despite several efforts made to resolve the issues that led to his “hasty suspension.’’

Omonijo, however, sought the declaration of the court that his suspension without pay by the university authorities in letters dated Feb. 14 and Feb. 15, 2019 as null and void.

He also sought an order restraining the university from further interfering with his rights, privileges and performance of his duties as the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU), Federal University Oye-Ekiti branch.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Omonijo is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Water Resources at the university.

Politics / New Kano Emirates: How Ganduje Got Social Media ‘talking’ by mrakeli62: 4:11am On May 12, 2019
The creation of four new emirates in Kano State has elicited social media reactions.

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, is again in the spotlight after the 2019 governorship rerun that got much social media hype. This time, he is in the limelight with another jaw-dropping issue which has got the media buzzing once more. After the State Assembly passed into law the recommendation on its committees to break up the Kano emirate, the governor assented to it on Wednesday, saying four more emirs would be named aside Emir Muhammad Sanusi II for the new emirates. The new emirates are Bichi, Gaya, Karaye and Rano. This matter got social media steaming with people’s reactions. Some believed Ganduje wanted to use this to get back at the emir for criticizing his administration before and during this year’s governorship elections.

A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode said in his Twitter handle @realFFK that “I have always had strong differences with Emir Sanusi of Kano, from the days we were together in the Progressive Action Movement (PAM) in 2000 up until the time he was Gov. of Central Bank but I have always respected him. I deplore the attempt to destroy him by the powers that be.” However, even some supporters of Ganduje’s administration do not support his decision on this ground. Abbas Hamisu in his Facebook wall said “No to the creation of additional Emirates! President Putin of Russia once said ‘the collapse of the Soviet Union was a major geopolitical disaster of the century…’ The Soviet Union was the counter balancing power to the United States after the end of the Second World War. The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 changed the World order to date. Our world is now Unipolar with the United States as its sole shaker and mover. “It is in view of the above that I am against the creation of additional Emirates in Kano. This will further weaken Kano as United force to reckon with in the North. This will weaken the Kano traditional institution. When others are created, they should be maintained…Let that chain of command be maintained. “I know some day, Kano will be divided to other smaller units, but we should not encourage actions that will help in the acceleration of that process. If United Kingdom can reverse its Brexit decision, they will have done it by now because they’ve finally realized the dangers associated with it.” Also, Ismail Ibrahim Ockler from his Twitter handle @ismailockler stated that “It does not make any sense. Kano emirate is united and peaceful. Any attempt to divide the emirate council will have a negative consequence on the peaceful co-existence. Not in support.” Gimba Kakanda, commenting on the issue at his Twitter handle @gimbakakanda, reminded of history. He said “Do you know the security implication of foolishly tampering with an ancient Emirate? Google the riot that broke out in Kano in the 80s when Abubakar Rimi attempted to rubbish the position of Emir Bayero.” The BBC Pidgin English service was also not left out in the issue. It quoted the Director-General in the Kano State Governor’s office. “Aminu Yassar as wey be DG Media for Kano govnor office tell BBC say dem no go tok anything regarding whether na dia principal wan take revenge on Emir Sanusi since na Assembly mata and e no concern dem.” In a Tweet, Comrade Deji Adeyanju wrote: “Some religious leaders are keeping quiet now thinking this does not affect them. One day, the governor will not like your face, he will also come after you.” Also, Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State reacted in a Tweet at the handle ?@HEDankwambo saying “We will not be in power forever. Ramadan Mubarak. #IstandWithEmirSanusi>” The hashtag #IstandwithEmirSanusi have been trending online for the past few days since Ganduje initiated the move approving new emirates. The people of Kano have also organized a peaceful protest at Audu Bako secretariat on Thursday in response to the creation of more emirates urging people through the internet to come out and participate.

Politics / Boko Haram Kills 9 In Borno by mrakeli62: 6:17am On May 09, 2019
Boko Haram terrorists Wednesday killed nine people in a renewed push for Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Though they were successfully repelled by the military, the terrorists left in their wake destruction of two villages on the outskirts of the town, the birthplace of Boko Haram insurgency.

It was learnt from sources that nine persons were killed during the push for Maiduguri by the sect in Molai and Bukarti villages.

A resident of Molai, a village about 10 kilometres away from Maiduguri on Damboa/Biu road, Ahmed Balami, told Akelicious on phone that though the attack did not leave heavy number of casualties, there was massive loss of properties for both the residents of Molai and the military stationed in the village.

He lamented that the insurgents “attacked and destroyed power transmission station and took away the military gun truck stationed there.

“They (insurgents) killed two persons in Maibukarti village, not far away from Molai. And then, they killed two others in Molai, one of them was a mad man. “They burnt the entire Molai market and many houses before they left.”

Another source in Molai, who preferred anonymity, said the attackers, during the siege, attacked the power station and carted away the gun truck that was stationed there.

Confirming the attack to journalists yesterday, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division of the Nigeria Army, Brig. Gen. Ibrahim Biu, said Maiduguri was never attacked as the insurgents were repelled at the outskirts of the town.

According to him, “Troops neutralised a number of the insurgents and repelled the attack.

“The insurgents came and fired some shots, but troops engaged and repelled them. Some disgruntled elements are peddling misleading information that Maiduguri is under attack. How can Maiduguri be under attack when we already repelled them?

“They attempted to infiltrate Molai village in the outskirts of Maiduguri but were immediately countered. As I speak to you now, I am standing in Molai village. Troops are combing the area in hot pursuit of the fleeing insurgents.”

Politics / Breaking: Adeleke Charged With Certificate Forgery by mrakeli62: 11:53am On May 07, 2019
The police in Abuja have charged Senator Ademola Adeleke with certificate forgery. He was charged this morning at an Abuja magistrates’ court.

Adeleke is also the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, in the election held last September.

An election tribunal validated his election in a split ruling in March. An Appeal court will shortly pronounce its verdict on who was the real winner between him and Governor Gboyega Oyetola, who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

The allegation of certificate forgery had dogged the senator in the run-up to the election in the state, leading to his arrest before the poll.

President Muhammadu Buhari waded into the case and ordered the police to release him.

Recently, Justice Othman Musa of the FCT High Court declared the Secondary School Certificate presented by Adeleke to INEC as fake.

A suit is pending in the high court seeking the declaration of his senatorial seat vacant.

Adeleke has appealed the judgment.

Politics / APC Yet To Tell Me Not To Run, Says Ndume by mrakeli62: 5:44am On May 07, 2019
A former Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, yesterday stated that there was no time the All Progressives Congress (APC) officially asked him not to run for the position of Senate President, saying he joined the race to win as he has the support of his colleagues and party leaders to content for the position.
Addressing journalists yesterday in Lagos, Ndume expressed optimism that he would emerge as the Senate President in the ninth National Assembly, adding that he is not in the race to bargain for juicy position.

According to him, he has consulted widely with a lot of party leaders in the ruling APC and none has asked him to withdraw for anyone.
He said even the National Chairman of APC, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, said the party leaders only recommended Senator Ahmad Lawan as their preferred choice and were not trying to impose him on the senators.

“The party has endorsed Ahmed Lawan. I am very loyal to the party. But I only go with the party to extent that the party has followed the constitutional provisions on any matter. I also believe that power belongs to God and He gives it to whoever He likes. I consulted widely before I made my intention public. I consulted President Muhammadu Buhari; the National Leader of the party, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other leaders of our party and they gave me their blessings. I am in Lagos in continuation of that consultation. I am encouraged by the feedback. I wrote a letter to the party to inform them of my intention. So far, nobody has told me to suspend my aspiration because they know that doing so will amount to denial of my constitutional rights. Nobody should be imposed on the senate. I am insisting that democracy should prevail,” he explained.

Ndume described President Buhari as “father to all.”
“I don’t expect the president to take sides with anybody. The president has never interfered in the electoral process. The party has only recommended Lawan. If the party decides wrongly, I will not follow the party. Nobody has said to me ‘don’t do it’. I have not heard otherwise. The National Assembly is my second home. I have been there long enough. I know the rules that guide choice of leadership of the National Assembly. It is senators that will choose one of them to supervise their affairs. That person will be ‘one among equals, not one above equals’ as we currently have.”

According to Ndume, he has the backing of his constituents and it may amount to a betrayal of their trust if he shelved his ambition.
“It is better for me to pursue this to a logical conclusion. I am not in the race to bargain for any other position. The party is supreme only to the extent of the legality of its decision. The party has not said it is depriving me of my right. The party has never appointed anybody, even the position of the president was contested. It was the same for the National Chairman of the party – people expressed interest, forms were sold and elections held. The party’s constitution recommends; consensus, direct or indirect primary.”

“We have 109 senators and each of them has one vote. If you are contesting to be the senate president, you have to reach out. But at the beginning, I was cautious because I am a party man. So, when the party said don’t go there, because if you do, you will be disciplined, I stayed back. But the party came out again and said ‘you can reach out to them now, and so, I reached out to them. So far, I thank God that the response I am getting from my colleagues from the other party is very encouraging – the same thing from my colleagues in APC. I am in this race to win. So, I am talking to everybody. I have all the numbers of the 109 senators-elect and I call them’.

“I have written the party, indicating my intention to contest. Even my national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole publicly said they only recommended Lawan and they are not stopping anybody. As I speak with you, nobody has consulted me to say ‘don’t run for Senate President’. Everybody has the constitutional right to do that,” he said.
Speaking on his nine-point agenda, Ndume, who currently represents Borno South, promised to improve upon the performance of the 8th Senate, adding that he will make the Office of the Senate President less attractive by reducing the unnecessary privileges attached to the office.

While promising to uphold the independence of the legislative arm of government, the third-time Senator promised to “work harmoniously and inter-dependently with the executive without undermining the principle of Separation of Powers”.

“I want to halt the drift of the Senate and return it to the independent institution that is supposed to be, while serving creditably its useful function of stabilising the polity by performing its check and balance role. Currently the office of the Senate President has become personalised. With a comfortable majority of 65 senators, the APC leadership in the senate should not have any problems. I want to restructure the office of the Senate President. Another thing I will like to do is to see to the speedy passage of the Constituency Project Bill, which I sponsored. Constituency projects have been mismanaged for a long time. But the truth is that we have 774 local government areas, some of which will never feel the presence of the federal government without these constituency projects.”

The lawmaker, who said that the North-east deserves an articulate representative as Senate President, added that the region had suffered huge devastations with property worth over N2 trillion destroyed by insurgents.
He said there was need for an articulate candidate from the North-east geo-political zone as a Senate President to galvanise global support for the restoration of the North-East.

He said he was qualified to play that role, adding that his record in the National Assembly could attest to that.
The ranking lawmaker who said if given the opportunity, he would not compromise the independence of the legislature, added that his chances of becoming the next Senate president are bright, adding that he enjoys robust relationship with his colleagues (senators-elect).

Ndume said he had been engaging his colleagues, assuring them that he wants to be President of Senate and Senators’ President.
He maintained that God has been so kind to him as a “son of nobody that became somebody without knowing anybody,”adding that the onus is on him to reciprocate God’s favour by serving mankind.
“The 9th senate will do things differently. And that’s why I set out my nine-point agenda of what I want to do to reposition the senate”.

Politics / Minister Wants Capacity-monitoring Unit For Armed Forces by mrakeli62: 5:49pm On May 06, 2019
The Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, has advocated the establishment of armed forces capacity monitoring and evaluation unit for enhancement of military performance.

Dan-Ali made the call on Monday while delivering a lecture to participants of National Defence College (NDC) Course 27, in Abuja.

The Theme of the Lecture is “Defence Management in Nigeria: Ministry of Defence in Perspective’’.

The minister said that the role of Federal Government in the efficient management of defence was paramount and could be achieved through commitment to formulating and implementing comprehensive defence sector reform.

He said that the strategies for attaining defence reform included initiating public and expert dialogues to analyse and agree on the security and defence challenges.

According to him, this will lead to initiation of a comprehensive defence sector reform programme that clearly identifies those challenges.

Dan-Ali said it was necessary to improve transparent leadership, oversight, administration and accountability across the defence sector.

He also called for improvement in the funding of the military by ensuring that at least 80 per cent of all money from participation in peace-keeping operations was invested in the armed forces.

He said that this would be in addition to channelling to defence budget, all funds previously paid to former Niger Delta contractors “for so-called pipeline security arrangements’’.

The minister said that improved local production of basic military items, particularly by creating an investor-friendly environment and encouraging private sector investment in defence-related industries was imperative.

He urged participants to critically look at the current Defence Headquarters’ structure, including the responsibilities of Chief of Defence Staff, and come up with options for strengthening it for more efficient management of defence for Nigeria.

On the challenges of the defence management in Nigeria, he said that poor involvement of the civil society in the defence sector was one of the challenges in defence management.

‘’The civil society, acting as a voluntary group, plays an important informal role in national security decision-making processes and behaviour.’’

Dan-Ali noted that in Nigeria there was little involvement of the civil society in defence policy processes, adding that it was not good for efficient, transparent and accountable utilisation of national defence budgets.

He disclosed that the armed forces have developed and instituted strategy to combat terrorism, saying “let me at this point commend our armed forces for achieving giant strides in the support of the offensive operation in the North-East.

‘’Also, our armed forces are doing a lot to ensure that our national resources in the Niger Delta are not stolen to the detriment of our economy.

The minister said that the military action against the terrorists had seriously degraded the insurgent’s ability and capacity.

‘’As a result of this, several displaced people and those that were held captives have been rescued while large number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have been able to return to their villages,’’ he said.

According to him, currently, over 200,000 internally displaced persons have been rescued and rehabilitated.

In his remarks, the Commandant of NDC, Rear Admiral Makanju Kadiri, said that defence management was a deep and complex subject, explaining that the “more you get involved, the more you understand the complexities’’.

Business / CBN: N2b Stolen As Fraudsters Target Mobile Apps Users by mrakeli62: 1:50am On May 06, 2019
Going by the record of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), e-fraudsters have fleeced customers of self-initiated banking solutions, such as Mobile Apps and Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) of about N2.08 billion in the last one year.

CBN Director, Payment System Management, Sam Okojere, who broke the news at the Nigeria Electronic Fraud Forum (NeFF) general meeting in Lagos, said that customers of banks, Other Financial Institutions (OFIs), digital wallets and remittance players are prime targets for cyber criminals seeking quick monetisation of stolen credentials.

The apex bank’s data showed that Nigeria recorded over 38,000 fraud count with over N9 billion attempted fraud value within 12 months. An estimated N2.08 billion was lost in 2018, with mobile channel recording the highest volume and value, of 11, 492 in volume and N598.8 million in actual loss value. The loss value is 25.7 per cent higher than the 2017 figure.

Okojere said that the more products (cheques and over-the-counter services) are channeled through those mobile devices as against previously used channels, the more attractive they become to fraudsters.

He also disclosed that the Nigeria Interbank Settlement System (NIBBS) Fraud Report for last year showed that the mobile channel scored 28.21 per cent on the Fraud Interest Index.

The bank chief said: “This could be an early warning sign that fraudsters are shifting focus to mobile attacks and testing the waters in different types of mobile and online banking fraud in 2019.

“It is therefore important that we do not relent in our efforts at protecting this space and increasing public confidence in our electronic channels.

“The truth is that you do not need to go to a bank’s branch to carry out a transaction. Most people are carrying their cards in their phones. The money is not in the phone, but is a channel through which you can assess your bank account and the money in it.

“It is because the attentions of the cyber attackers have moved to the mobile platforms. They are one of us, so they know where the interest is going. One of the things we are doing is to create awareness for both the users and the operators, so that they can tighten the security around mobile device.”

Also speaking at the forum, Executive Director, IT and Operations at Access Bank Plc, Ade Bajomo, said no bank is totally free of cyber-attacks.

To him, there are two classes of banks in Nigeria, when it comes to cyber-attacks: those that have been hacked, and those that do not know they have been hacked.

Bajomo, said hacking is a serious concern for the payment industry, given that there are even companies selling hacking toolkits, encouraging people to go into hacking.

He said: “As we gather here today, there are people who do the same in the dark world. Banks need tone compliant with needed certification for them to be ahead of the e-fraudsters. The nature of sophistication of the e-fraudsters means no one is safe. Some of the mare wares are difficult to understand.

“Banks are where the money is and that’s why they are the primary target. And I can say that only two things can break a bank, the level of their bad loans and fraud.

“It does not matter, once one person is porous, the entire system is affected. We need to create more awareness of the need to protect our financial system.”

Continuing, Okojere, who is also the Chairman of NeFF, urged banks to unite in fighting electronic fraud through a collaboration that will make the ecosystem safer and more inclusive.

He explained that just like technology, electronic fraud has evolved over the years and fraudsters continue to innovate ways to beat the system and elude authorities around the world.

Noting that the Nigeria payment ecosystem has come a long way, particularly in developing techniques to prevent electronic fraud, Okojere said: “Given the importance of providing safe, secure and acceptable payments system, as well as engendering public confidence in electronic means of settlement for goods and services (payments), the role of a proactive management cannot be over-emphasised. It was on this backdrop, that the NeFF was created and has since been riding.

“The aim of NeFF has been to enable information exchange and knowledge sharing on fraud issues amongst key stakeholders with the objective of ensuring a collaborative and proactive approach towards mitigating fraud occurrences, limiting .loses and enhancing confidence.

“Additionally, NeFF has positioned itself to serve as the official body that represents the industry’s position on fraud related issues, while proffering solutions that restore public confidence in the payment ecosystem.”

Religion / Don’t Marry Jobless Men - Pastor Adeboye To Single Ladies by mrakeli62: 4:51pm On May 05, 2019
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye has warned single ladies to avoid marrying jobless men.

Jobless men, he said, have the tendencies to use, dump and abandon such ladies.

Adeboye spoke on Sunday at the May Special Prayer and Thanksgiving service by the RCCG Throne of Grace, National Headquarters Ebute Metta, Lagos.

According to him, a woman should not marry a man that has no work “if not you will be the work.”

He noted it is not sinful for a single lady to politely ask any man proposing marriage whether or not he has a job.

Stating that women are conceived as helpmeets, Adeboye argued only somebody who has a job can be helped.

Adeboye, who spoke through the Assistant General Overseer, (RCCG) Personnel and Administration Pastor Johnson Odesola, said the man is key and the woman has only come to help.

“Whatever the woman does is help. The man is major director in the house,” he stressed.

He stated taking care of the homes does not rest on the woman alone but the man and the woman who have come to help.

Adeboye blamed lack of proper home training for most of the ills in the society.

“I still remember when I was young. My father will tell me that this name is the name of my father. Don’t spoil the name. So I was scared to do wrong. I could not shake the hand of a lady until I was 23.

“Learning for any child should start from the home and parents should be their child first teachers.

“The wife and the husband are the main teachers who will teach and model godly character to their children,” he stated.

In his sermon, Adeboye, urged all Christians to strengthen their faith, saying there would always be storm in the lives of the believers.

Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Otunba Gani Adams, who was at the service argued religion, is never the problem of Nigeria.

According to him: “It is sad many people believe religion is Nigeria’s problem, but in truth, leadership, not religion is Nigeria’s problem.

“For instance, I am a Muslim by birth. I grew up from a Christian background and as the Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land and culture activist, I also believe in our traditional religion.”

Jobs/Vacancies / Recruitment: Navy Has Not Released List Of Successful Candidates – Official by mrakeli62: 11:43am On May 05, 2019
The Nigerian Navy (NN) says it has not released the list of successful candidates for its 2019 recruitment.

The Naval Spokesman Commodore Suleman Dahun, made this known in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.

Dahun said the list of successful candidates would be released to the public through the Navy official website and the media.

He also alerted the public of the existence of a fake list of successful candidates in its 2019 recruitment online.

Politics / APC Govt Has Turned Nigeria To Banana Republic Says Falana by mrakeli62: 6:32am On May 05, 2019
A human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana at the weekend said President Muhammadu Buhari had turned Nigeria into a banana republic, citing prevailing cases of banditry, insurgency and violence that beclouded the country.

Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), added that Buhari’s civilian administration was apparently worse than the military rule he presided over between December 31, 1983 and August 27, 1985.
He expressed grave concern about the APC government in a paper he delivered at a roundtable discussion the Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism and the British Council organised to the 2019 World Press Freedom Day in Abuja on Friday.

At the public forum attended by a wide range of political leaders, diplomats and professionals, Falana lamented that the country’s senior public officers had substituted the rule of law for “the rule of the rulers,” thereby asking the Nigerian masses “to take their destiny in their own hands.”

Specifically, the human rights lawyer cited Buhari’s records of respecting the rule of law, which according to him, had worsened since his heydays as a military dictator.

In a comprehensive analysis of the two administration, Falana said the irony of such official impunity “is that whereas the Buhari military junta released detainees from custody on the orders of the courts.”

He decried worsening cases of violence, banditry and insurgency, which he said, had become prevalent since the president returned to power in 2015.

He, therefore, concluded that under the the Buhari administration, Nigeria had become a banana republic, saying the president’s human rights record “is worse than when Buhari was a military dictator.”

He, equally, lamented Buhari’s poor record of obeying the rule of law, wondering that president claimed to be a converted democrat, though the claim had been disputed by the refusal of his administration to comply with the orders made by several courts for the release of a number of citizens from unlawful custody.

Apart from treating the orders of the courts with contempt, Falana said Buhari, currently the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), had ignored the orders of the Community Court of Justice with respect to the restoration of the civil liberties of Nigerian citizens.

He faulted Buhari and his Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami, saying the contemptuous act of the administration “has been defended by the president who has insisted that national security should take precedence over the rule of law.

As if that is not enough, the human rights lawyer faulted the decision of the justice minister “to publicly defended the contemptuous acts of the federal government.”

However, the senior advocate said the civilian regime headed by the converted democrat “has refused to release or grant bail to several detained persons in complete defiance of court orders.

“Since the federal government claims to operate under the rule of law, it should be compelled to comply with section 287 of the Constitution which has imposed a duty on all authorities and persons to enforce the decisions of all courts of competent jurisdiction in Nigeria.

“It is so worrisome that provisions of the 1999 Constitution are conveniently sacrificed for political expediency or self aggrandisement of highly placed public officers. In the process, Nigeria is reduced to a banana republic where the rule of law is substituted for the rule of the rulers.”

He equally lamented that those in charge of running the federation are working against the progress of the nation and Nigerians, noting that by deliberately ignoring the rule of law, the Buhari administration was promoting and perpetuating corruption.

According to him, this means that people in government, and particularly those in the executive arm, can abuse their powers and positions to promote their own interests or those of their friends and allies at the expense of public interest, through arbitrary acts and corruption, or through inconsistent application of laws.

Falana cited the case of Buhari’s anti-corruption campaign, which he argued, had beenn discredited through the selective prosecution of corrupt elements in the society.

Worse still, he explained that corrupt members of the Federal Executive Council “are currently using the police and anti-graft agencies to settle scores with corrupt opposition figures.

“It thus seems that politicians and associates of those close to the seat of power in Abuja are protected, despite strong evidence of corruption and money laundering against them. Such abuse of the rule of law is subversive of law and order in a democratic society.

“Given these types of examples on the part of the leadership and the poor working conditions of most government workers, it is not surprising that civil servants across the ranks have turned to petty corruption, often simply to survive.

“The net impact of this systemic corruption is a serious erosion of the rule of law, by a government that is supposedly committed to good governance, transparency, accountability and anti-corruption.”

Disturbed by these urgly trends, Falana urged all elected public officers “to proffer solutions to the crisis of underdevelopment. It is high time President Buhari and all state governors who are abroad returned to the country to attend to the urgent crisis of insecurity.

“With the virtual take-over of the country by armed bandits, terrorists and kidnappers the president and all top public officers should be barred by Nigerians from embarking on foreign private or official visits to other countries until further notice.”

Falana did not spare the media for often choosing to focus less on more important problems plaguing the country, urging the media “to stop the irrelevant debate on the educational qualification of any candidate.

“Because adult illiteracy rate in the country is 60 percent, section 318 of the Constitution has prescribed education up to junior secondary level or primary six and 10 years’ working experience as the minimum qualification for contesting elections in Nigeria.

“Therefore, the media should stop giving undue attention to the educational qualifications of a former military president and a former civilian vice president to contest a presidential election in the country.

“More so, that both politicians had risen to the apogee of their professional carriers in the public service before contesting the last presidential election,” the human rights lawyer said.

He also lamented that the media had left the serious crisis of insecurity in all parts of the country to join the APC in questioning the citizenship of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

During the presidential election, Falana said the APC celebrated the fact that Buhari defeated Atiku Abubakar in his own ward in Adamawa State.

He argued, “If Atiku is a now Cameroonian doesn’t that suggest that those who voted for President Buhari in his ward for the candidate are Cameroonian citizens too?

“Just a couple of weeks ago, the federal high court declared illegal and unconstitutional the deportation of 56 Cameroonian refugees and asylum seekers from Nigeria. All persons living in Nigeria including citizens by birth or naturalisation, dual citizens, foreigners, refugees and asylum seekers are entitled to adequate security and protection.”

“What the country is currently witnessing in terms of increasing violence, banditry and insurgency is a sign of anarchy. Since the 2019 elections have been concluded the duty imposed on the media is to ensure that political parties and elected officials are held accountable.”

Crime / Addide Manager Forges NYSC Certificate, Defrauds Supermarket Of N7m by mrakeli62: 2:28am On Apr 24, 2019
A branch manager with a popular retail store, Addide, Samson Oluwaseyi, has been arrested by the police in Lagos for allegedly forging a discharge certificate of the National Youth Service Corps and a statement of result of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa.

The 36-year-old Gbongan, Osun State indigene, was alleged to have defrauded Addide of N7.79m during a 10-month period.

Akelicious learnt that the fraud was detected during an audit of the company’s account.

Our correspondent was told that managers usually deposited proceeds from sales in designated banks with the help of escorts.

Tellers of such transactions were then sent to the store’s head office at Gbagada.

The General Manager of Addide, Adeola Adeshina, alleged that Oluwaseyi usually deposited less than his actual sales and doctored the tellers to cover up the fraud.

He said, “We have about 44 outlets and he was the manager of one of our stores in Akute. After sales every day, as the manager, he would take the money to the bank with the help of the escort team, count it and deposit it. It is the teller that comes to the head office that shows the amount paid into the company’s account.

“But he was altering the tellers. If he was to deposit N290,000, for instance, he would deposit N210,000. He would then alter the teller by changing the ‘1’ to ‘9’. When we did an audit, we found out he had embezzled N7.7m.

“When the audit department saw that, he was summoned to explain himself. He, however, stopped coming to work and ran away.”

Our correspondent was told that the case was reported at the Pedro Police Station, which arrested the suspect’s father, who was his guarantor.

The father was said to have led representatives of the company and the police to his house in Ogun State.

“He was not around when we got there. When we called him on the telephone, he did not respond. The police then lay in ambush at his house. As he was coming home around 9pm that day, he was arrested.

“When we queried him on where the money was, he could not say. The police at Pedro then transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba,” Adeshina said.

Akelicious learnt that in the course of investigation, the police searched the house of the father of two and found the NYSC certificate and statement of result alleged to have been forged by the suspect.

He was subsequently arraigned before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court on three counts of stealing, fraud and forgery.

The charges read, “That you, Samson Oluwaseyi, between April 1, 2018, and February 4, 2019, on Dahomey Street, Gbagada, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal the sum of N7,791,917, property of Addide Limited, represented by one Yisa Adeshina, thereby committing an offence.

“That you, Samson Oluwaseyi, did knowingly forge a Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa Statement of Result, dated January 5, 2005, and a National Youth Service Corps discharge certificate, dated March 25, 2009.

“That you, Samson Oluwaseyi, between April 1, 2018 and February 4, 2019, did fraudulently alter Zenith Bank tellers written in the name of Addide Limited, while working as a manager of the Addide Store.”

The police prosecutor, Modupe Olaluwoye, said the offences were punishable under sections 287 (7), 365, and 337 (c) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges and elected summary trial.

The Chief Magistrate, Oluwatoyin Oghere, admitted him to bail in the sum of N2m with two sureties in like sum.

According to the chief magistrate, the sureties must be resident in Lagos with evidence of tax payment to the state government.

The case was adjourned till June 26, 2019.

Celebrities / Davido Stopped Me From Quitting, Says B-red by mrakeli62: 3:21am On Apr 21, 2019
Davido started music with his cousin, Adebayo Adeleke, aka B-Red. But at the time Davido started enjoying the spotlight, it became a struggle for B-Red to make a name for himself.

But B-Red, who is the son of Senator Ademola Adeleke, told Sunday Scoop that he had never been envious of Davido. He stated, “A record company will always push one artiste before others and Davido was the first on the list. He is my family member and I don’t hate him. I am happy he is successful and a big artiste in Africa because his success rubs off on me too. It is normal for people to always compare artistes, but it is left for you to ignore that. It is just music and everyone can be at the top at the same time. I don’t care about what people say; I just make music.

“I am not where I would love to be but I am in a better place compared to where I was five years ago. I started music as Davido’s hype man and I travelled around the world with him. That was how I built my career and I started singing from there.”

According to him, when he wanted to give up music, Davido encouraged him not to. He added, “Since I worked closely with Davido, I also saw how Davido struggled when he first came into the industry. That gave me the push too. When people were criticising my music, I didn’t argue with them; I just kept working hard. Now, people show me love.

B-Red has released his first song for the year, titled, E Better, featuring Don Jazzy. According to him, the song has the potential to surpass his previous hit songs such as Uju and Fall for You.

Politics / Only $1.2b So Far Spent On Brass LNG Project – NNPC by mrakeli62: 4:09am On Apr 18, 2019
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has confirmed that the actual historical amount spent on the Brass LNG project from inception till date was about $1.2 billion against the allegations that it has gulped $22 billion. According to a press release by NNPC group general manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, the clarification was made by Engr. Ahmed Dikko, General Manager, New LNG Venture of the NNPC on Wednesday at the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating the expenditure and implementation of the $22 billion Brass LNG project. According to the statement, Engr. Dikko, told the Ad-hoc Committee that the $1.2 billion was about the total money spent so far by the various shareholders to get the project to its current stage. “This sum included the cost of acquiring project land, which covers approximately 606 hectares, cost of early works contract, Front End Engineering Design (FEED), Pre-FEED Concept Evaluation Study (PFCES), Project Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), comprising both onshore and offshore studies, dredging, EIA activities and ambient noise survey, displacement and settlement action plan (FED-RAP), cultural site heritage study, staff and administration project cost from inception, sustainable development cost, among others”, he said. Engr. Dikko said that the project which was conceived and designed to assist in monetizing the nation’s abundant natural gas resources, reduce gas flaring, and create employment for the Niger Delta youth, was already at a critical point of Final Investment Destination before the pull out of its major partner, the Conoco Philips. He said as contained in the shareholders’ agreement, Conoco Philips, whose investment value was $192 million received only one dollar as entitlement. The general manager, who noted that the exit of Conoco Philips was a serious setback, explained that the corporation’s decision to work with the company to deliver the project was due to its readiness to provide the needed technology to drive the process; while assuring that NNPC and the remaining shareholders had considered other simple options to bring the project alive. He clarified that the estimated amount to complete the project was far from what is being alleged, noting that NNPC deploys its negotiation capacity to extract value for the nation.
