It has been said that youths are the leaders of tomorrow but in the case of African political system, this statement will remain fruitless until the youth stand on their ground to bring this into the reality of the day. Nigeria youth haven’t been lucky with good governance, receiving oppression from both their leaders (politicians) and those said to protect them (e.g SARS). The Nigerian youths have received unfair treatments from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and have endured to the fullest the impunity of their operations, torture and other ill-treatment to execute, punish and extract information from suspects. More and more victims of the SARS have made the news these past years sparking each time a lot of indignation on social media and sometimes protests. While Nigerian youths were experiencing this torture from all over the country, the need of Moses and Israelites theory of freedom beginning to loomed in Nigeria context and every parts of the country just waiting for that Moses that will voice out before the freedom song will be sang. On 4 October 2020, a video went viral showing SARS officers dragging two men from a hotel and shooting one of them outside. A few days later, protests erupted across Nigeria. On 11 October, SARS is disbanded. But it was the 5th time since 2015 that the Nigerian authorities pledged to reform the police and disband SARS. Protests continued demanding more than empty promises. But that was the beginning of skeletal thought of many youths all over the country, on setting the Nigeria that will be free from insecurity, impunity, bad governance and a society free from police brutality. On 20 October, between 6:45 pm and 9:00 pm, the Nigerian army and police reportedly killed at least 12 peaceful protesters and left several injured in Lekki and Alausa in the cosmopolitan city of Lagos, thanks to DJ Switch who made sure the even was witnesses in real-time as the staccato of bullets ripped through the air and people scampered in different directions. The security forces, without warning, opened fire on thousands of people who were peacefully calling for good governance and an end to police violence as part of the #EndSARS movement. On that day alone, 38 people allegedly died across Nigeria. Since 8 October, protesters have consistently been met with excessive use of force. They have been fired at with live ammunition, beaten, and arrested. Water cannons and tear gas have also been used to disperse crowds. THE OBIDIENTS MOVEMENT Thousands of youth who had participated in the social justice protests were looking for a leader who would back their calls for a change in the government and mete out punishment for the October killings, Peter Obi haven been denied of presidential ticket took advantage of the crying youths who out of the 9.4 million newly registered voters, 7.28 million or 76 per cent of them are young people and their plight for a better Nigeria. It’s not that Mr. Obi, who is 61, is particularly youthful himself, though he is the youngest major presidential candidate by a decade. But in a country where young people have been pushed to the periphery by unemployment, corruption, and police brutality, Mr. Obi’s promises of clean governance and an outsider’s perspective have caught the imagination of a generation. His supporters call themselves his “Obidients.” “Nigeria today is at a critical juncture, and the people, led by the youths brutalized by bad leadership, are awake and leading the movement to transform Nigerian politics,” Mr. Obi said in a speech at Chatham House, a think tank in London, last month. He is campaigning to succeed Muhammadu Buhari, who is in many ways a textbook example of Nigeria’s old guard. At 80 years old, he was the country’s military dictator in the mid-1980s, before becoming the democratically elected president in 2015. His eight-year administration has been marred by violent insecurity and a shuddering economy in Africa’s most populous country. During his presidency, the country has undergone two recessions and unemployment has risen sharply. In recent weeks, a sudden change to new banknotes has caused a massive shortage of cash, preventing people from buying basics such as food, water, and bus fares. “I know Nigerians always say we have never had it so bad, but truly, truly, as nearly everyone will tell you, we have never had it so bad,” says Sully Abu, a Lagos-based journalist and co-founder of FrontFoot Media Initiative, a journalism nonprofit. In that context, he says, Mr. Obi “has fired the popular imagination.” Historically, Nigeria’s presidency has bounced between Mr. Buhari’s party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and its rival People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The APC’s candidate for president this year, former Lagos state Gov. Bola Tinubu, is literally campaigning on the slogan “It’s my turn.” And the PDP has put forward former Vice President Akitu Abubakar, who has run for president five times before. Like about half of Nigeria’s population, both men are Muslim, as is Mr. Buhari. In this context, Mr. Obi has successfully marketed himself as new blood. He is a Christian running on the ticket of the Labour Party, a lesser-known party with minimal representation in the Senate or House of Representatives. And that have shown at poling unit on how he received a Grammy votes of most Nigerian youths across the 36 states and the Federal Republic of Nigeria and this was still a shock to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, how he lost Lagos to Peter Obi in the 25 February presidential election. Conclusively, there are numbers of things that the future of Nigeria politics will encompass, out of which will be the fact that whole lots of people, majority the Youths are very much in the system of politics now and are focused on holding their leaders accountable before reelecting them into public offices. The fact that some person’s political career, those the youths feel are corrupt, who sees the truth but call it right, who defend injustice and impunity to the call are coming to an end. The fact that politicians will begin to respect citizens now is very well viable now. I end by saying I pity those politicians that didn’t see up till now, the dimensions the political system of Nigeria is going but still stands in their old ways of politics, Nigerian will surely replay their words and deeds and use them heavily against them someday.

Head coach of Nigeria’s U-23 team, Samson Siasia, has admitted that Nigerians will not be interested, if they don’t come back with Gold from next month’s Olympics. Siasia and his boys are currently in the United States of America, where they are preparing for the competition. “It is not going to be a walk in the park (to win Olympic Gold). It is going to be a very difficult task. But the thing is that anything short of Olympic gold is nothing because nobody will even come and welcome us when we come back without the gold,” he said. “So, it is a difficult one. But we will do the best that we can so far these players (confirmed foreign-based stars) are coming. We will know exactly how we are playing and what will come out from the players we have.” Nigeria, who are the current African U-23 champions, have been drawn against Japan, Sweden and Colombia in the group stages.

According to a source who spoke to the media outfit, the EFCC had traced N4.745 billion to the bank account of Sylvan McNamara Limited, a company in which the former minister’s two sons, Ibrahim Babajide and Gbolahan Olatunde Obanikoro, have major interest.EFCC is keeping a close eye on two sons of Musiliu Obanikoro, ex-minister of state for defense who have been linked in the arms deal scandal EFCC is keeping a close eye on two sons of Musiliu Obanikoro, ex-minister of state for defense who have been linked in the arms deal scandal It was gathered that the alleged funds were paid in batches into the company’s account number 0026223714 with Diamond Bank. The source citing some instance alleged that on June 5, 2014, N200 million was transferred into the account of the firm owned by Obanikoro’s two sons. While on June 16, 2014, N2 billion was transferred into the account from the CBN account maintained by the Office of the National Security Adviser. On July 7, 2014, the sum of N700 million, landed in the Obanikoro-affiliated account, while on July 30, 2014, N1 billion was credited to the firm’s account. Other transfers included N160 million on August 8, 2014, N225 million on August 22, 2014, N200 million on November 14, 2014, and N200 million on December 5, 2014. More statements from the source show that the funds were paid from an account maintained by Office of the National Security Adviser at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and all the transfers were made between June and December 2014. Coincidentally, the period in which the transfers were made into the bank account of Sylvan McNamara Limited, falls under the same likewise when the preparations and the conduct of the Ekiti state governorship election, won by Governor Ayodele Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party was in full gear. At such, hints that some of the cash was routed to Fayose’s campaign have been muttered. click here for more http://www.naijaplaza.com/2016/01/dasukigate-ekitigate-two-sons-of.html |

President Muhammadu Buhari during his working visit in Iran has disclosed that some treasury looters have commenced returning stolen money voluntarily. President Buhari at gas forum in Iran. Meanwhile, the president stated that he was not pleased yet as his administration would stop at nothing to confirm all stolen funds and not a fraction was returned. The president revealed this during a communicating session he had with members of the Nigerian community living in Iran. The Nigerian leader didn’t list the names of the former government officials who have so far returned parts of stolen assets. Buhari also did not reveal how much had so far been returned to Nigeria’s treasury. The president stated that unlike what was appropriate in 1985 when he was a military head of state that suspects could be imprisoned while being probed, democracy and rule of law do not encourage that. He said: “On corruption; yes, they (the past government officials) are still innocent. “But, we are collecting documents and some of them have started voluntarily returning something. But we want all. “When we get those documents, we will formally charge them to court and then we will tell Nigerians to know those who abused trust when they are entrusted with public funds. “So, the day of reckoning is gradually approaching.” President Buhari also pledged to deal conclusively with saboteurs who are destroying pipelines and stealing crude oil. “I believe if you are in touch back at home, you would have been told that already there is some improvement in power,” he noted. “We haven’t said anything to them yet. I think they only find it sensible or appropriate for them to try and improve the power. “I’m sure you know about the privatisation of the power sector; your old friends NEPA or Power Holding Company of Nigeria have been sold to a number of interest groups. “Those who normally steal Nigerian crude and those who blow up installations, whether they call themselves militants or whatever, they are still there,” he said. Nigeria and other GECF members now account for 42 % of global gas production, 70 % of global gas reserves, 40 % of pipeline transmission of gas and 65 % of the global trade in Liquefied Natural Gas. President Buhari is expected back to Nigeria on November 24, Tuesday. http://naijazi..com.ng/2015/11/buhari-says-some-looters-returning.html

A couple whose baby daughter died after they starved her to death due to their their religious beliefs, have been jailed, West Midlands, England, UK. Brian Kandare, 29, and Precious Kandare, 37, were parishioners of the Apostolic Church of God which had strict views on modern medical care. And their implicit faith has led to their 8-month-old daughter death a year ago. Brian Kandare, 29, and Precious Kandare, 37, were parishioners of the Apostolic Church of God Rebecca died from severe malnutrition and pneumonia as her religious parents left a sick girl in the midwife’s care at the church. The duo believed that the woman’s ‘supernatural healing powers’ would save her. Three days later she died at hospital. According to doctors, Rebecca has one of the worst cases of rickets they have ever seen and weighed the same as a three-month-old baby. They also didn’t find any trace of food or milk in her stomach. Prosecuting, Jonas Hankin QC said:“Her illness was treatable and her death was preventable. It is highly unlikely that Rebecca would have died if she has been presented for medical care more than 24 hours before she collapsed. In prioritising their religion over their daughter’s welfare, in breach of their duty to care for her, the defendants are guilty of the most serious abuse of trust.” visit here for more http://naijazi..com.ng/2015/11/parents-starve-baby-daughter-to-death.html

One of the problems associated with living in Lagos is having to grapple with the tough life there. This reminds me of a phrase from American hip hop star, 50 Cent: “Death’s gotta be easy cuz life is hard.” When you live in a city like Lagos, you contend with traffic, erratic electricity and security lapses among others. But survive you must. And so you find a way of balancing life in this big city by unwinding. People get different benefits from different activities, and sex is usually a large part of how we loosen up. Dapo Johnson is the typical Lagos big boy. He worked really hard to earn his stripes. In 2001, he returned from London to manage his father’s little business. Born into a middle class home, he has managed to turn the family’s fortune around, but like every human, he has his weakness. He has quit smoking but loves women, maybe a bit too much for his own good. He has a wife but keeps about half a dozen other affairs on the side. He plays golf with his friends and loves to swim. He also drinks occasionally, but regardless of his excesses the man doesn’t play with his job. He has a solid work ethic. Within five years of returning to Nigeria, he entered the diesel market and few years later became one of the major marketers in the city. It isn’t a long drive from Etim Inyang, V.I. to his Ikoyi home but he only leaves the office after 10PM. He is often too busy with his personal assistant, when everyone else is gone. But they are never busy with work at these late hours. click here to continue http://naijazi..com.ng/2015/11/showcasing-lagos-traffic-and-sex-in-city.html

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reacted to a recent comment made by Rev Father Ejike Mbaka, the catholic priest from Enugu. Image result for biafra protester Biafra protester Speaking during a sermon at his weekly Adoration Ministry, Mbaka criticised Biafra supporters who embarked on the massive protests to demand the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, who is being held in detention despite having been granted bail by the court. The man of God also called on the Biafran youths to go back to their business as the protest could lead to their death. “Locking up your shops and disrupting economic activities will not add any naira to your pocket, whatever grievance you have could be resolved through dialogue,’’ he said. Responding to Mbaka, the IPOB denounced him as a compromised priest speaking from both sides of his mouth. During the evening broadcast of Radio Biafra, Uche Mefor, the deputy leader of the IPOB, criticized the cleric for speaking out of turn and stressed “Biafra is more than money!” Mefor noted that the youths are protesting against injustice, oppression and subjugation, which is motivating them to seek their freedom. The deputy leader further wondered why Mbaka who is a priest could not find courage to condemn Nigeria government’s extrajudicial detention of Kanu. He also advised him to refute his statement immediately if he was misquoted. According to Mefor, Biafran youths have seen the truth having been enlightened on the need to restore Biafra, and nothing can stop them from demanding their rights. Also reacting to Mbaka’s comment, one of Biafra activists, Nekky Simon, said: “Mbaka’s case is still keeping me dumb founded. This man was busy calling for the division of Nigeria, just few days after the protest kick started. He even declared that he was not afraid of being arrested, saying that Nigeria was no more fit as one since nothing seemed to be working. Few days after, Aisha Buhari paid him a courtsy visit at his adoration ground, and not up to one week after that visit, Mbaka’s tongue changed. “Nigeria suddenly seemed fit to stand as one, things started working, and his brothers whose protest prompted his initial stand immediately became fools whose agitation are evil. Mbaka, Mbaka, Mbaka! Kai, I am overwhelmed with disappointment. I least expected this kind of day light compromise from him. God!” Meanwhile, the lawyer of Nnamdi Kanu, Egechukwu Obetta, has recently made a statement, in which he listed his next steps. They comprise hosting “a meeting of representatives of all non-governmental organizations in Nigeria, ” and “petition the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the National Human Rights Commission, the National Assembly and the Nigeria Bar Association.” visit here for more http://naijazi..com.ng/2015/11/father-mbaka-under-fire-for-criticizing.html |
