The Federal Govt, comprising of the old PDP has marked the official headquarters of the new PDP in Abuja for demolition.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, Senator Bala Mohammed, has ordered the Development Control of the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA, to demolish the official Secretariat of the Baraje-led new PDP situated at 4, Oyi River Crescent, off Babangida Way, Maitama in Abuja.

The building (pictured above) was marked for demolition on October 11 about a month and a half after the new place was locked up by heavily armed policemen.

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) is to hold a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday to decide its next line of action over the lingering strike by university teachers.
The NUT President, Mr. Michael Alogba-Olukoya, said this in a telephone chat with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday.
The union had on September 26 given a two-week ultimatum to the Federal Government and the lecturers to resolve their differences and end the strike or face nationwide strike by NUT members.
The lecturers under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) embarked on the nationwide strike on July 1.
The lecturers described the strike as “comprehensive, total and indefinite.”
Alogba-Olukoya told NAN that the union extended the ultimatum following appeals from well-meaning Nigerians.
He, however, noted that the extension would end on Tuesday.
“Since we gave the ultimatum, well meaning Nigerians have been pleading with us.
“In order not to cry more than the bereaved, we gave them till October 22. The NEC members will meet on Thursday to decide our next line of action, “he said.
NAN reports that the university teachers are protesting non-implementation of an agreement they signed with the Federal Government in 2009 on improved funding of universities and payment of allowances to ASUU members, among others issues.

For close to two hours, Monday afternoon, Facebook users were having difficulties in updating their status, post pictures and the like.
Attempts by users to update on the social networking site yielded this message: “There was a problem updating your status. Please try again in a few minutes.”
The peculiar bug was partially fixed after a couple of hours as some are able to operate their accounts accurately – many still face difficulties.
The development raised dust among users most of whom initially thought the issue was not a common problem.

Consequently, Iain Mackenzie, the European communications director for Facebook, confirmed the issue on twitter : “We are aware that some people are having problems posting to Facebook and we’re looking into it.”
According to Michael Allen, Director of APM, Compuware, the outage would potentially affect “billions of people.”
“If you look at the Outage Analyser service, at least 3,587 other domains were impacted; although the actual number is likely to be far greater. This is because many other businesses and websites are connected to Facebook. For example, Facebook is used to enable people to log in to many other sites and applications. Any organisation that is seeing errors or slowdowns with their own site or application this afternoon, should check to see if they are relying on Facebook services before they start fire fighting as this might be the cause.

However, everything seems to have come back to normal.

A mobile policeman attached to the Special Task Force in Jos shot and killed his colleague on Saturday. Two other people were also said to have been injured in the shooting, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday in Jol, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The injured people, who had not been identified as at the time of this report, were said to be on danger list at Vom Christian Hospital, near Jos.
The Executive Director of Stefanos Foundation, Mr. Mark Lipdo, told our correspondent that they had yet to understand the motive of the shooting.
Plateau State Police Commissioner, Mr. Chris Olakpe, told our correspondent that investigations were on to ascertain the cause of the incident.
He said, “I am right now addressing the men to calm them down so that the incident will not dampen their spirit. We will not like anything that will affect their morale, especially at this time we are preparing for a crucial task of the local government elections in the state. The incident is highly regrettable and we want to ensure that it does not happen again.”

President Goodluck Jonathan has pleaded with the striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call-off their four-month old industrial action. Jonathan made the plea while commissioning the Faculty of Engineering Complex building of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti yesterday. Jonathan urged ASUU members to review their industrial action and go back to class. The president said his regime was working assiduously to meet the lecturers’ demands.
Jonathan, who was the special guest of honor at the first convocation ceremony at the University, acknowledged that the country is facing a lot of challenges, assuring that his government was poised to solving the problem confronting the education sector.
”Even to those of us holding political offices, those in the health sector, the police, the army, the Department of State Service(DSS), the thinking out there is that we are operating in the best environment. This is not true.
’If we all decide to embark on long strike ,definitely, we will all ground the nation.”
The president reasoned that if ASUU members have genuine and patriotic mind towards pressing home their demands, four months was enough in achieving this.
”I urge every patriotic Nigerian to plead with ASUU to suspend their strike action and resume class.

The president promised that his government was steadily trying to solve the problems confronting other sectors of the economy ,including education by providing infrastructural facilities.
He commended the founder of Afe Babalola University for establishing a first class privately owned university.
On the demand of the state government on the establishment of airport and federal secretariat, Jonathan said N400million had been earmarked in this year’s budget for the airport.
Speaking earlier, Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, made a plea on the establishment of an airport in the state.
Fayemi noted that the state government had paid part of the N320million counterpart funding for the establishment of the airport.
The governor noted that Ekiti was the only state out of those created in 1996 that is yet to have a federal secretariat.
He disclosed that Ekiti was yet to be fully reimbursed on the N13billion spent on the construction of federal roads in the state, noting that only N2billion was paid to the state by the Federal Government.
Speaking earlier,the founder of the university, Are Afe Babalola(SAN) said he decided to establish the N60billion university because of his love and concern for qualitative education.
Babalola claimed that the institution was rated as the second best private university and number 16 in the country, saying his motive was to provide a world class university.
He appealed to the Federal Government to come to the assistance of private universities in the country, especially in the area of research.
Plea to PHCN workers
Meanwhile, the President has urged workers of recently privatised PHCN to shelve their plan to go on strike on the grounds of non-payment of their entitlements. According to him, efforts were on to pay the entitlements.
Jonathan also assured Nigerians that electricity supply will reasonably stabilise before the middle of next year.
He spoke while commissioning the National Integrated Power Project NIPP 500MW Omotosho Phase II power station in Okitipupa council area of Ondo State.
The commissioning of the Omotosho NIPP is coming 16 days after that of Geregu power station.
Jonathan said Nigerians should appreciate the efforts of his administration in transforming the power sector.
” I am not saying that electricity supply will be total but I want to assure that light will be reasonably stabilised before the middle of next year,” the President said.
According to him, by the time his administration is through with transformation in the power sector, the results will be likened to the reforms in the banking and telecommunication sectors.
The President pointed out that all the ten NIPP which will add 4700MW to the national grid, will be completed by the end of first quarter of next year and be privatised.
He commended Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, traditional rulers, and youths in the community for their supportive role in the realisation of the project.
Earlier, Mimiko said the project will only have meaningful impact when transmission projects are completed.
According to Mimiko, the state will soon complete and invite the President to come and commission a 30MW power station in Omotosho which was initiated by his administration.
He commended the untiring efforts of Jonathan in transforming infrastructure in the country, noting that posterity will judge him positively.
Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, lauded the political will of the President in effecting change not only in the power sector but also in all the sectors.
The Omotosho Phase II power station was initiated in 2006 as a follow up to the existing 338MW Omotosho Phase I power station which was constructed with the financial and technical assistance of the government of China.

Davido some days ago claimed that he was not satisfied with the work Sesan did on his video after the release. Contrary to this, Wizkid said on his tweet that Jaiye Jaiye video is fantastic and was produced by Sesan.
The question now is, "Is the Skelewu video problem really from the incompetency of the producer or lack of creativity of the artiste(Davido)?

The Saudi authorities on Saturday in Makkah said over 1.3 million pilgrims from around the world would perform this year’s Hajj rites at Arafat on Monday.
A Saudi official, Marwan Zubaidi, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Makkah that pilgrims’ transportation to Mina on the way to Arafat would begin on Saturday night.
Zubaid said the “ascending and descending” committee had concluded all arrangements to ease the movement of pilgrims to the Holy sites, as directed by the Hajj Minister, Bandar Hajjar.
Zubaidi assured pilgrims that adequate arrangements had been made for those who would want to spend the night at Mina to do so without hassle.
The official, who is the Secretary of the General Car Syndicate (NAQABA), said buses and guides had been deployed to the various camps in Makkah to ease movement to Mina.
“Special shuttle bus services have also been provided for 563,000 pilgrims from Europe, Eastern Asia, non-Arab Africa and Iran,” he said.
Zubaidi also said regular bus services would be available for 750,000 Southern Asia and Arab pilgrims.
He said 500 buses had been stationed at Arafat as part of measures to forestall any delay and ensure the success of the exercise.

A source close to the couple disclosed that their traditional marriage is billed to hold on Sunday, November 17, at Arc Events Center on the Lagos island. The date for the white wedding is yet to be fixed.

The president Dr, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on the the presidential media chat at 7p.m today has attributed the strike undertaken by the Academic Staff Union of Universities as politically oriented. On his speech in the five man panel in the chat, he described the ASUU strike as unfortunate, saying that some political forces are behind the action taken by the union. However, he was unable to justify the 2009 agreement made between the federal government and ASUU.

"We set up a panel which went around universities and took records and videos of infrastructural facilities. We are with the records now and geared towards infrastructural improvement in the federal and state universities across the country. ASUU did not ask us to do this and should not force us. We took the decision ourselves which the implementation has started yielding results with the disbursement of 100b naira to universities for a start. ASUU should get their monthly earned allowance through the internally generated revenue." PRESIDENT(presidential chat).
