macaranta:It's because nigeria is an import heavy country. we are always buying foreign goods, but have nothing to export, hence putting pressure on the dollars w have in the country. Too much naira chasing too few dollars. Thus, dollar price goes up. |
MummyIMadeIt:I understand. I have modified my post above to add my details. It is better to register, so I can better confirm details. Thanks for your interest. |
When I was younger, I wanted to learn coding, but I couldn't because I either didn't have money or time. I won't even go to data or light. Thankfully, this is not the case today. Sharing my personal experience, I have picked up skills online that later opened doors for me. For those who need it, I am offering to sponsor udemy online digital courses for 15 people on digital skills such as data visualization, data analytics, android development, robotic automation etc. Take this as a giveaway, targeted at equipping young Nigerians with digital skills. My job afterwards, is to market promising candidates to intern with companies for further development. I believe there is a lot of talent in Nigeria, we just need to be given the opportunity. Once you are done, students who pass a digital skill exam, will enter an internship pool for a tech company. Seize this opportunity right now and learn a skill. I am organizing an entrepreneurship program to be run in several schools. I would like to know if you feel this can help you build foundation skills in business. It's a free program and several people from it have gone on to start their own businesses. To get more of an idea, please watch this video to see clips from the program. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oprmz2uJM6k If you want to know more or you are interested, please fill in your details into this google form https:///forms/LenohVWxN7Db3qQB3 Thanks |
As we all know, data is very important in the 21st century and many people are using it to generate more revenue. In Nigeria, there isn't a lot of available data. To this end, I am working on a business data portal. To help me better work on design and features, I would like to get opinions on what data-sets you need to grow your business. Some examples: Number of people/men/women per state/LG - so you know which places to place your shops or for your sales team to target? Average earnings in a state - so you can better allocate marketing budgets or products Number of job earners in each state/LG - good for people like dry-cleaners who target corporate clients. Number of houses been built per state - say for people in the construction industry Highest growth regions in terms of people - also good for construction workers Number of people below 18/mobile phone usage - help betting shops locate their shops in high traffic areas. Number of cars that use specific roads - help filling station owners place stations appropriately/real estate agents on property development etc.. What information or data would help make your business more profitable? |
Good article. |
sorry seems i didnt explain well. she has been caring for him. if he travels out, she and his son will move out with him. so his dad wont have any family member around. its either they all stay or they all move and he hires a caregiver |
A friend off mine, who works in an MNC has been offered a lead role outside Nigeria. He was working on the documents to relocate with his entire family (he has a wife and a son). 2 weeks ago his father fell ill, and he had to do a lot of running around. the situation is a bit stable now. the docs are saying his dad needs someone around. His wife is close to his dad, and even before he fell sick - gives him emotional support, sometimes drops by with food etc. He discussed with his wife, and she says she will support any decision. His intuition is that she wants him to continue with the relocation plan, you know, let them upgrade. She was also planning to quit her job. He is not sure if he should scrap his travel plans and turn down the new position abroad, so he can be around to personally take care of him. His dad is the only person he has left. Or should he get some professional caregivers to watch over him? The new position nearly triples his pay so money will not be a concern. |
mammanbawa:exactly, i have seen countries where the society rallies if one person is trespassing on the rights of others. dont want to blame govt, but probably it is an issue with type of leaders in general. a lot of them also oppress the populace. anyhow, maybe the best thing is to get a big car too. its like that is what will get the most respect from people. |
fbtowner:i dont agree, the guy jumping is paying the same amt na, theres notn special about him. he was just oppressing the other guy. it will e a different case if as he chanced him, he was paying double price or sth. then i might understand that money is talking. this just looks like oppression to me |
angels09:hmmmm guyy, I suspect you. but its not fair -its not right even, jumping queue just creates confusion everywhere |
Thats how I was in a filling station and someone in a black benz jeep just drove to the front of the queue and chanced someone. The guy whose turn it was came out to argue. o boy, see oppression, the driver or the owner just pushed the guy. the guy was complaining, but its like he didn't have liver to drag the matter. the attendant was just like, oga, i go soon sell him own, he will be going. Honestly i felt like coming out to support him, but somehow at the same time, its better to just mind your business in this country. Has this happened to anyone before? Whats the best thing to do? The guy that came out of the car was hefty. |

bootstrap:very good analysis |
An easier to understand explanation for the Uncertainty Principle: Imagine a car moving along a road. If you want to see the exact place where the car is, you must pause time (because it's always moving). You pause time, and you mark its place. While you paused (imagine it like a photo), you CAN'T know its speed. It's a picture. If you want to find out the speed, you must unpause and measure it. But if you unpause, it's impossible to know the exact position of the car because it's moving. I still think the government is playing with our ignorance assuring people they wont increase the price of fuel. Price increase is bad for our pockets but i fail to see a workaround. Well except if we go back to subsidies, which comes with a whole new set of problems. |
In this period of fuel scarcity, I hear lots of people saying Nigerian fuel marketers are wicked. They are hoarding fuel, they are heartless etc etc. Maybe they are not? Let me give you an illustration say you are a businessman, you sell sardines. You buy your sardine in Abuja for N300. Your customers are in Lagos. They only eat sardine. You go to Lagos. On getting there, you here the market chairman has declared nobody must sell sardine in the market for more than N150. What do you do? Sell the sardine you bought for N300 for N150? Yes, maybe you want to help them because without your sardine, they will be hungry. But for how long can you help? You will eventually run into debt and out of business. Or maybe you decide to hold on to your sardine and talk to the market chairman to increase the price? If you choose the last option, you are now a “wicked” fuel marketer! In this my example, the sardine is fuel, the market is Nigeria, the market chairman is the Nigerian government and you are of course the fuel marketer. No matter how nice or altruistic we want them to be, the pragmatic truth is that the fuel marketers are in business, just like dangote, just like the phone seller in computer village, just like the fish seller. They have to make some profit from their business. Its easy to blame them but the issue of fuel scarcity definitely doesn’t lie at their feet. Now, there are other reasons why the fuel scarcity is as it is. It is a different thing if we were addressing these other questions: - Why we even have fuel scarcity in the first place? - Why the government is fixing the price of fuel? - Why we import fuel and why government has not been able to fix the refineries over so many years? (The reason is not one we like to hear) - In fact, like above and for the same reason, why its difficult to fix power. Yes there is plenty of politics, but there is also economics, 1+1 can not be equal to 4. Even if we elect the best people in the world, if we don’t accept economic reality of our current situation, we will deceive ourselves trying to make the impossible possible. |
