CelebritiesLagos State Government To Honour Fela Anikulapo-Kuti by MrGist(op): 7:04am On Oct 13, 2017
Lagos State Government has announced plans to honour late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, as the week-long activities marking his 79th posthumous birthday and the 20th anniversary of his death draw near..

In a statement issued by the State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, the Government said the honour is in line with Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s commitment to promote art and tourism and to celebrate iconic figures in politics, economics and culture sectors who have contributed to the image and development of Lagos State.
According to the Commissioner, Governor Ambode will on Sunday, October 15, 2017, unveil a statue in Fela’s memory at the Allen Roundabout in Ikeja.

The Governor will also pay a visit to the Kalakuta Museum on Gbemisola Street, Ikeja where he will join family and Fela devotees in homage to the music icon. The day will be rounded off with a Special Lagos Jump - a musical tribute to the man affectionately called “Abami Eda” - at the Afrika Shrine in Agidingi, Ikeja to draw the curtain on the 2017 edition of Felabration.

According to Ayorinde, “Fela did not only capture the global audience as a charismatic and energetic musician using Lagos as his base; he was revered for fighting against corruption and oppression even at the risk of imprisonment or death. His creativity, courage, passion and extraordinary ability to rise against the odds are trademarks of a true Lagosian”.

'Fela is a global icon and one of the biggest success stories from Lagos. Monuments are erected across the State to remember the contributions of people like him to preserve their legacies and our history as a people'.

Standing at 25 feet and titled 'Liberation', the statue is done in fibreglass by artist Abolore Sobayo of Cowrie Studios as 'an iconic legacy to celebrate Fela's unique dress sense and style of salute'.

CelebritiesLagos Police Commissioner Invites Davido And Caroline Danjuma Over Tagbo's Death by MrGist(op): 5:54pm On Oct 05, 2017
The death of Tagbo Umeike and the unclear circumstances surrounding it has been a hot topic in the Nigerian Entertainmnet Industry since Monday night and the fact that Nollywood actress, Caroline Danjuma came on social media to finger Davido in his death made it more messy.

Davido and his camp has denied any involvemnent and now LIB has exclusively gathered that the new Commisioner of Police in Lagos State, Imohimi Edgar invited Caroline and Davido to his office last night.

LIB exclusively gathered that during the closed door meeting, Davido was able to provide CCTV footage from Shisha Room (The lounge in Lekki where they both partied earlier in the night) to prove that he left the club a long time before Tagbo and the deceased wasn't in his car as claimed by Caroline.

LIB reached out to Caroline for further comment on Tagbo's demise this morning and she declined to speak on it saying its now a famiy issue and she won't be making any more comments with Tagbo's family signing off on it.

In her words, 'I don't have anything to share with you because I'm not the only one in this picture, there are family members involved, so I can't just start sharing things with you without the approval of the family members, if there's an approval, I'll let you know' she said.

She also didn't reveal any burial plans for late Tagbo.

CareerNkem Okechukwu, Graduate Who Taps & Sells Palm Wine (Photos) by MrGist(op): 6:22am On Sep 27, 2017
@GISTMORE

Nkem Okechukwu is a brilliant Nigerian man whose journey took an unexpected turn after he graduated from the University of Ibadan (UI). The young man resorted to the tapping and selling of palmwine after he tried hard to find a job.

NAIJ had an exclusive chat with the young and vibrant man who was recommended by his wife. She listed him as one of the bravest men she has ever known with his decision to use his skills and not give in to the evil vices in the society. Nkem Okechukwu’s story is not just touching; it is inspiring as the impatient graduates in the society can learn one or two things from him.

He has done his best in creating a job for himself while waiting for fate to deliver that dream job unto him. Most importantly, he is not idle and seems to be impacting the lives of those around him positively.

I am known as Nkem Okechukwu Confidence. I was born in November 1987. I am the last child of seven children and come from a very humble family. I attended University of Ibadan between 2010 to 2014, where I got a degree in Communication and Language Arts(CLA).

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was the next thing for me. I started my service at Government Day Secondary school at Pupule, Yorro local government area of Taraba before I moved on to Imade College in Owo local government area of Ondo state.

How did you start selling palm wine? Whose idea was it?

Selling palm wine was nobody's idea. It was something I thought about by myself. Notwithstanding, the real idea came from the popular music of no employment.

Tell us about the things you do asides being a palm wine tapper and seller?

I do not do much asides tapping palm wine. It could be exhausting so I sleep whenever am tired! Have you been able to generate funds from the sales? How much do you make per day? Concerning fund generation, palm wine tapping and selling is quite lucrative as tedious as it is. I make an average of ten to fifteen thousand naira daily.

What major challenges have you tried to overcome since you began?

The only challenge I have been battling with is rain. Tapping palm wine when it is raining is quite difficult. Rain disrupts the supply of palm wine from the tree. I end up tapping twice on a normal day. You either get drenched in the rain or sit back at home.

What major progress have you recorded since you started?

With palm wine, I have been able to take good care of myself and my immediate family. Also, I have been able to buy a car and some plots of land right here in Owo and in my village, Okpoto, in Ebonyi state.

How do you feel with your choice of work when you run into your colleagues?

I am not intimidated by anyone. Tapping and selling palm wine is something most people are not willing to do. They look down on those doing it as they do not know it pays. Sincerely, tapping and selling palm wine pays a great deal.

What is your future ambition now?

My ambition is to change my line of business and go into a bigger and less stressful venture. I am working on starting something soon. What have you to say to other people struggling out there? I basically want the young ones out there to know that those who make it are those who are tough. It is important for them to use what they have to work towards getting that which they do not have.

Funny enough, l started this palm wine business with less than twenty thousand naira; the story is different today as I make more than seventy thousand naira per week. So, do not wait to have a million naira in your account before you start something.

What would you like to be remembered for? I want people to only remember me for being good. Lucky Dube already sang about it when he asked people to do good unto those they meet up the ladder as they would be needed when descending.

Celebrities‘Twerking Is Part Of My Job’ – Curvy Actress Anita Joseph by MrGist(op):
@GISTMORE

Curvy actress, Anita Joseph, was the topic of discussion during the week when a video that showed her twerking for actor, Charles Okocha, aka Igwe 2pac, went viral on the Internet.

A lot of people expressed misgivings about the video, saying that it did not tally with Joseph’s claims that she is a born-again Christian.

However, Anita told sunday scoop that she doesn’t see anything wrong with what she did. She said,

“The video was recorded on a movie set; we’re working on something together. I am not concerned about people saying all sorts because if you do something, and it is not criticised, then it means that thing is not worthwhile. The people who liked the video are about 80 per cent while the haters are just about 20 per cent; so it means we ‘won.’

Some people said we made their day with that video, while some said their children have been laughing so hard at the video. A lot of people have said encouraging things about the video and that’s what matters. The people who don’t like it can shove it up their backsides.”

Ventilating further, she said,

“There was nothing wrong with the outfit I wore; all the sensitive parts of my body were covered. I wasn’t naked in any way, so anybody that talks about my dressing in that video is a fool because what I wore was very good. The role I played in the movie was that of a corporate worker and I intentionally chose that outfit I wore. As regards the twerking, it was just work. I’m an actor and I can do whatever I want to pass a message. It was an act; it is not what I do every day.”

A plus-sized bride-to-be and her fiance did a semi-nude photoshoot which got positive reactions from people who say it has inspired them to be body confident.

The couple, Stephanie and Arryn, took part in the empowering boudoir photoshoot for their photographer friend Bria Terry to celebrate their engagement. At the time they posed for the photo, they had no idea it would go viral and be shared all over the world. But the photo managed to inspire thousands worldwide.

Stephanie, from Texas, USA, says she used to not like her stomach but has now embraced her body.

She told the Huffington Post: "I remember being in junior high and looking at myself in the mirror, wondering why my stomach wasn’t the way it was ‘supposed’ to be.

"Over the years, I’ve come to accept that I am always going to be considered plus-size. I push myself out of my comfort zone by wearing clothes that I love but aren’t in society’s mold of what is acceptable for bigger women, like crop tops, tight shirts, shorter dresses and shorts. I walk around with my head high, smiling, and show no shame in myself. I honestly have never felt more attractive."

Stephanie said she was amazed when she saw the photos.

"I was shocked," she said. "I look so in love and confident. "Every person should be able to see themselves in that light. It is really eye-opening."

The photographs were posted on Facebook by the photographer and have been shared over 85,000 times with thousands on social media praising it.

The photographer wrote: "'A moment, a smile; a single burst of laughter that sounds exactly like the rest of my life.' -Tyler Knott Gregson

"Today, and always, Wolf & Rose Photography celebrates real love, and the beautiful couples who allow me to capture it."

Celebrities'i'd Rather Die Alone Than Stay In A Broken Relationship' - Actress Pearl Thusi by MrGist(op): 4:13pm On Sep 23, 2017
@GISTMORE

Pearl Thusi whose relationship with famous journalist Robert Marawa crumbled months ago has said she will rather die alone than stay in a broken relationship.

While speaking about the negative impact of seeing women stay in an unhappy and broken relationship, the South African actress and TV presenter said she witnessed her own mother deal with the pressure of the belief that women had no choice but to stay in unhappy relationships.

She told Metro FM on Friday:

'The one thing that I regret on my mother's behalf is that she didn't leave my father. I used to beg her to do it. Their relationship did not look like a lot of fun and it was affecting us. She would say she stayed for me. I loved my dad and so if she didn't want to leave earlier it was probably because she was worried how I would react, and I can accept that, but that doesn't mean she couldn't leave," Pearl said.

According to the actress, because of these experiences she has vowed to rather die alone than let her daughter think she has to stay in a broken relationship to force her way into a man's heart.

"If you are not happy, get the hell out, unless you are really really willing to fight harder to make it work, and that is what I want for my child," she said.

Pearl's who allegedly suffered a series of fights with her former boyfriend Robert Marawa added that:

"As a young girl, I never saw black men do right to any of the women I was exposed to and I was watching the 'Bold and The Beautiful' and 'Days of our Lives' and these white guys were doing the (right) things. I think it was a subconscious thing," she said.
