Comedian and actor, Ogbeni Adan, is known for his comedy skits about African parents. In a recent interview, he talked about some of the challenges he had to face in his career at the initial stage. His brand was built around social media and when his account was hacked, it seemed like a major setback.

He said, “The day my Instagram page was hacked, I had instant fever; I was having fun when someone called me that he noticed my page could not be accessed. I laughed it off because I didn’t want to believe it. I tried to log into the page but I was not able to do so. My body temperature increased immediately. My friends encouraged me to open another page immediately, and that was how I started all over again. It was a very bad experience for me.

“Initially, I opened my account for personal reasons, but as time went on, I started posting some videos about my daily activities. Interestingly, most of the big names in Nollywood became my fans and they started reposting most of my videos. Most of the popular actors and actresses helped me grow my fan base with their reposts.

“Sadly in 2017, my page got hacked when I had almost attracted 200,000 followers, so I had to start building my page all over again. I am grateful to God that despite the setback, my followers have been increasing because I post contents consistently.”

Asked about the source of his inspiration for his skits, he identified his father’s disciplined nature as the major inspiration behind his skits.

“My father is a disciplined man, so I got the traits of an African parent from him. I never liked reading, so my father was very hard on me. Anytime I brought my result home, he would always count the number of red scores there; that would determine the number of strokes of the cane I would receive that day.

“He wanted me to be a bookworm; my grandfather was also like that, so he got it from his father. It is very funny that African fathers always think the only way to discipline a child is by not sparing the rod. I was a little bit stubborn while I was growing up; I always wanted to have fun. I also imitate my grandparents in my skits sometimes.

“I have been acting from the church, he is a pastor. He supported me when I started, but he still wanted me to get the best education. There was a time he called me to tell me he was watching one of my skits on television, I could feel the joy in his voice. He once told me that when he watches my skits he forgets I am his son after laughing so hard. Anytime I travel to see him, I always look for a storyline from his ways of doing things.”

This might sound like a plot from a Nigerian movie scene but it is not. According to Nollywood actor, Uche Maduagwu, actresses, especially the popular ones, are now using some of their colleagues’ pants for ritual purposes.

“It is very true that actresses steal their colleagues’ pants for ritual purposes. I am still in shock right now. I knew about this trend when I was somewhere with some actresses and they were talking about it bitterly. I thought they were joking till other actresses, who later joined us, also started talking about it and I found out that it began to happen recently. I was surprised.


“The people I spoke to told me that it was just a new thing that started happening and that most actresses were not talking about it so it would not appear as if they were trying to rubbish the industry, but this thing is now becoming rampant.

“They further told me that it was not only upcoming actresses that were doing this but some popular actresses also indulged in this act. Most of these popular actresses are dating all these big ‘yahoo boys’ and they give the pants to their partners. When I heard this, I was shocked, especially as no one is talking about it,” he said.


Shedding more light on how the actresses have allegedly been going about it, the actor said, “The way they do it is that when an upcoming actress meets a popular actress, definitely she would be happy and joyous. When the popular actresses see the excitement in the eyes of these upcoming ones, they take them under their wings, most likely as a personal assistant or ‘younger sister’.

“From there, the upcoming actress would start spending nights in the house of the popular actress and before she knows what is happening, their pants get stolen. I learnt that this is the new tactic of the ‘yahoo boys’ and that is why some of them prefer dating popular actresses because they would be moving with upcoming actresses.

“It is a problem. It is not restricted to popular actresses alone, even the upcoming actresses do this because everyone wants to ‘blow’ (have instant wealth). I learnt that they take the pants to somewhere in Ibadan (in Oyo State) and shortly after, the popular actress would ‘blow’ because they would be getting more money after the rituals.”

He further told Saturday Beats that some brazen actresses would use the pants themselves or only give the ‘yahoo boys’ out of the ones they had stolen.

“However, it is a two-way thing; the brazen actresses could steal three pants and give two of them to their ‘yahoo boyfriends’, while the lily-livered ones would give all the pants to their boyfriends. I was shocked to learn about this but I was told that the story is only within the circle of actresses in Nollywood and it is really going on now,” he said.

A woman has been stabbed at a polling station in Osun state, following an altercation with another lady. The incident took place at the Lagere area of Ile-Ife in Osun.

The lady was reportedly stabbed by another voter while on the queue. A fight had ensued over who was and wasn’t on the said queue. In the course of the squabble, the victim was stabbed in the face with a bottle.

Voting has ended in many polling units in Yola town of Adamawa, just as voters from other polling units thronged the polling unit of PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to witness the counting of votes.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that voters were curious and want to know the outcome of the election at Ajiya polling unit 02 of Gwadabawa Ward in Yola North Local Government Area, where Abubakar cast his vote.

Some of the voters had gone home after voting, but returned to the polling unit to witness the counting at the unit.

Two of the voters who spoke to NAN, Buba Musa, a PDP supporter, and Grace Ishaku, an APC supporter, who voted in different units, said that like other eager citizens, they came to Ajiya unit to see who would secure the majority votes among the two popular presidential candidates.

“I have interest in this unit and will like to see how Waziri of Adamawa (Atiku) performed,” Musa said.

National Youth Service Corps members working as ad hoc staff for INEC has escaped death after gunmen reportedly invaded a polling unit in Rivers State.

The incident reportedly occurred in Bonny local government, Rivers State and the gunmen were reported to be over 20.

They invaded the unit with dangerous weapons, shooting sporadically, carting away ballot boxes, looting and robbing electoral officers.

As at the time of this report, the unit is deserted, everyone has scampered for safety.

A 39-year-old barber slumped and died while visiting his girlfriend in her home.

Chukwuebuka Ihuoma was said to be healthy when he paid a visit to Ogechi Onyeukwu in her apartment in Ezegbogu village, Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State. However, while in her house, he collapsed.

Ogechi raised alarm and when neighbours rushed in, they found him already dead. He was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

Ogechi is in police custody and the police will carry out an autopsy to determine the cause of the sudden death.

A Nigerian woman has taken to Twitter to accuse her boyfriend of using jazz on her and extorting her.

The woman identified as Mimi and her boyfriend, Jack are on twitter releasing receipts after their relationship went sour.

Mimi claims Jack, who goes to the Cele church, asked her to send him a picture of her palm via WhatsApp. She said she sent the photo and, unknown to her, he used it to jazz her into submitting to his every will, such that she gave him whatever he asked for.

Ghanaian actress, Xandy Kamel has revealed that she is dating 10 men. According to the dark-skinned curvy actress, each of the men all know that there are 9 others apart from them.

She said.

“People see me in a negative perception because I always say the truth and do things for myself. I am being me and I do what makes me happy. To be honest, I am dating 10 men and they all understand each other.

Xandy Kamel also added that the men are beginning to clash with one another when they meet at the entrance of her house.
